The Ultimates Update
The Ultimates Update brings more strategic depth to Mind Over Magic combat, adding new ways to power up your Mages, and adding tough new challenges on higher difficulty levels.
There are also tons of QoL features and improvements to balance throughout the game. Highlights of all the changes can be found below.
Huge thanks to everyone who did advance playtesting on this update! We couldn’t do it without you!
New Combat Features
- Ultimate spells for every Magic Skill. They’re so powerful that they can only be cast once a day.
- Terrain in combat that creates positional tactics.
- Weaknesses and Resistances for enemies, adding a new strategic layer.
- Scouting and Abjuration, new abilities which allow players to transform battles before you fight them.
- A full rebalance of combat spells and Relic combat powers.
Combat Changes
- Potions are now equipped by Mages. Each Mage can carry 1 potion into battle.
- On the highest difficulty level, enemies scale up in HP and Damage less, but gain new combat abilities.
Gameplay and Balance
- An overhaul of our difficulty modes, presenting players with three options that line up with the most common ways to play.
- Apprentices gain a new title (e.g. Conjurer, Arcanist) based on the Skill Wheel position of their Wand and Apprentice Skills. This grants them new upgrades.
- Research is now divided into tiers. Each tier requires a higher level of Lightning Skill and a better Research Room to work on Research in that tier.
- New events that impact larger schools at higher difficulty levels, including getting multiple Fog Incarnates, Breathstealers, or Bramblespawn at the same time.
- Mages now gain bonuses when they have high Conviction.
- Instead of positive and negative Quirks, Mages now gain a new Need when they upgrade their wand.
- Lightning storms have changed to be less punishing in the early game. Lightning rods and other roof decor are now more effective at blocking the more more powerful storms later, but require Repair.
- New Basic Architecture Style, requiring fewer keywords for Rooms for a simpler school building experience.
There’s so much more, too! The complete set of changes is listed in-game and on Discord. As always, your old save games are valid to keep on playing with.
