The new Synthesis crafting feature is coming alongside Issue #3: Worlds Beyond, and it allows players to combine pieces of their hard-won treasure to upgrade Artifacts and unlock new abilities. While loot from treasure hunts is only ever up to Rare quality, Synthesis allows players to reach new heights of qualities, with the highest payoff being a Charged Artifact featuring three Affix qualities: Legendary, Masterwork, and Corrupted.
Each Affix type affects an Artifact differently:
- Legendary Quality Affix (Free): Grants an additional quality.
- Masterwork Quality Affix (Expansion Pass): Grants an improvement to an Artifact’s existing attributes.
- Corrupted Quality Affix (Expansion Pass): Kiss/Curse mechanic that grants an improvement alongside a Corruption that significantly alters the Artifact's use in gameplay.
Charged Artifacts can only be obtained through Synthesis, with MasterworkAffixes and Corrupted Affixes available to players with a Realities Expansion Pass. Once an Artifact is Charged, its Affix will deplete throughout several matches and revert to its Epic version once fully exhausted, to be charged up as before to Affix proportions through Synthesis.
Rerolling Charged Artifacts
Alongside access to upgrading the abilities of Artifacts, Synthesis also allows rerolling your current Artifacts to one that would better suit your playstyle. Just as rerolling allows you to change two kinds of Artifact categories to obtain one of a Hunt, Utility, and Survival category, it’s also possible to reroll two kinds of Charged Artifacts to obtain a different type of Affix. Who knows what you’ll get for combining a Legendary Artifact with a Masterwork — our guess is neither, but perhaps it’ll be just what you’re looking for.
The Realities Expansion Pass and Master of Realities Expansion Pass will be available to purchase in-game and via Steam, PlayStation Store, and Microsoft Store from November 14.
