News Liste HELL GALAXY
Welcome to this new dev diary, the last one of December before the holiday season. Today the Hell Galaxy production team would like to share a topic with you that hasn’t been covered before: one of the scariest creatures in Neterun, the Colossi. Please keep in mind that the material we’re sharing is WIP, including concepts and other unfinished elements.
Okay, we admit it, we want to avoid spoilers, so let’s just say that we won’t be going into too much detail. Instead, we’ll show you the development stages of the Colossus featured in the game demo and share some of their lore, as well as our thoughts on them.
The idea of including giant creatures in our IP was one of the first concepts we explored during pre-production. We wanted to create a dangerous galaxy with an aura of mystery, inspired by one of our core design pillars, the cosmic horror. It was natural for us to introduce creatures larger than the players.
With the Colossi, we wanted to respect the design principle established for all the creatures in Neterun, the mix of biological and mechanical elements. The Colossi are no exception. They contain sonic matter (and more, but we’re avoiding spoilers!) and are made up of alien mechanical parts that are common throughout the Galaxy of Neterun, along with strange biological manifestations that generate enormous amounts of energy.
Alongside the Alters, the ectoplasmic beings that threaten the mental stability of the raiders, the Colossi are one of the main reasons the Imperial explorers soon realized that Neterun was far more dangerous than they thought. We wanted to convey a sense of fascination, combined with the danger these creatures pose.
But we also wanted them shrouded in mystery, distinct from the smaller creatures of Hell Galaxy. Among the colonies of Neterun, no one knows the true nature of the Colossi, how long they’ve existed, or what instincts drive them to roam the galaxy’s darkness. Raiders try to stay away from them, though some are drawn to the mystery they embody. We wanted the Colossi to convey the immense energy that animates them, which is why we equipped the final in-game models with parts that hint at constant energy flows.
And that brings us to the end of this entry. We hope you enjoyed reading it, and we’ll see you next year with another dev diary. Until then, and as always,
Farewell, raiders!
