The underground passages are inhabited not only by kobolds, but also by other creatures, such as deep diggers.
These are large insects that have powerful front legs that allow them to rip up the ground in front of them. Initially, kobolds used the passages that these creatures used, and over time, they managed to tame the underground creatures and use them.
During the war with the gnomes, many diggers were destroyed in battle, so today the kobolds have only a couple dozen individuals left.
Deep diggers could have forever remained an underground rarity until their clutch was discovered by demons. With the help of their magic, they increased the size of these insects in order to use them as riding animals, and also increased their reproductive properties. Thanks to this, the species was not only saved from extinction, but also populated the surface with them.
