Welcome to the next part of our "Architect's Corner" series, in which we tell you all about the buildings you will have at your disposal as a ruler of an ancient Greek Polis. Discover interesting tips and tricks, learn how to effectively plan the development of your city, and check out how many useful structures you can raise - all this to the glory of a great ruler, such as yourself! ????
...and talk to the community and developers about the game!
Farm animals and their importance to your empire
Since the dawn of time, mankind has been closely associated with various kinds of animals. Initially, our ancestors hunted animals to obtain their skins, bones, and above all - meat ???? However, as the centuries passed, in addition to risky and dangerous hunting, we have learned to tame and (in a way) cooperate with wild nature... and this is how livestock farming joined our practices!
The Ancient Greeks naturally also benefited from animal husbandry. And while it's not as easy as it seems, you, as efficient rulers who want to ensure the prosperity and sustenance of their subjects, will also have to take advantage of animal farms! Today we'll take a look at the homesteads of two of them and find out how they can help your empire grow. Here we go! ????????
Goats ????
These playful, curious, and lively creatures are among the first domesticated animals in history. Goats are famous for not being too picky when it comes to their menu ???? this is undoubtedly a great advantage facilitating their breeding. However, it was not because of the fairly simple breeding and cheerful appearance of these animals that people decided to tame them. It turns out that goats produce nutritious milk that is just ideal for consumption! ???? Moreover, goat's milk is highly valued by cheese makers and bakers!
And this is how goat's milk is used in your city. Cheese makers turn this precious commodity into delicious, fragrant cheeses, which then end up on the tables of your subjects ???? As you know from our previous posts, a varied diet is good for your citizens' morale, so make sure you have plenty of goat's milk in your supply.
Milk is also used in the baking of traditional Greek Tiganites. In addition to flour and olive oil, it is one of the main ingredients of this meal. Needless to say, Tiganites are one of the favorite dishes of your people, and the beautiful aroma coming from the bakery certainly makes them feel better... and hungrier!
Cattle ????
Cattle are perhaps the world's most common large livestock animal. Of course, they must not be missing in your Polis as well! ???? These calm animals spend their days grazing on green grass and roaming around their enclosure, however despite their peaceful nature, they cannot be left unattended. The task of your farmers is to ensure their safety, and good conditions for growth and reproduction.
Although the time from when a calf turns into an adult cow may seem quite long, the benefits of owning these animals make their work worthwhile. If your farms fill up with cattle, you can be sure that you will not face such dangers as a deadly famine! ☠️ Ok, now that we know what farmers' work looks like... it's time to get our hands dirty.
Mature cattle are sent to the Slaughterhouse. The butchers working there are engaged in obtaining meat from the cows, which is a very important element of the diet of your subjects. It is certainly not a clean and pleasant job, but butchers know how important their profession is ???? With a constant supply of nourishing meat, your citizens have the strength to spend their days in the mines, workshops, service buildings, or to train their combat skills in the barracks.
It is worth noting that Hunting Lodges are also a great source of raw meat. You can learn more about them in our previous entry right here »
In the following parts of the series, we will return with descriptions of many other cool structures that will ensure the safety, well-being, and development of your city. We hope that the buildings presented today will find their place among the streets of your Polis, and that they will contribute to the growth of your magnificent empire! ???? As always - thank you and stay tuned!
