How have bees contributed to the development of civilization? ????
Already at the early stages of our education, we learn about the extremely important role played by bees in nature. For example, they are necessary for pollination, i.e. the growth of many plants that are extremely important to us - humans. Without these cute insects, our ancestors would quickly empty their granaries, not to mention that refilling them would be very difficult. In addition, bees are the producers of two unique natural goods - honey... and wax! ????
Today we will check how the second of them contributed to the flourishing of ancient civilizations and how you can use them as a ruler of a Greek Polis!
Let's start from the beginning - Apiary ????
This is where all the bee magic begins! ???????? If you were passing by the apiary, you would certainly hear a characteristic buzzing sound. This noise is nothing else than the sounds of the industrious insects that set off on a journey in search of flowers, shrubs, and other similar plants. When they settle their affairs with greenery, they return to their hive - aka the Apiary.
It is there that they produce wax, which, not surprisingly, was considered a very desirable product in the ancient world. But why were our ancestors willing to pay so much for this unique commodity? ????
Your beekeepers and other numerous citizens of your empire surely know the answer. It turns out that beeswax is just perfect for the production of a certain item that directly influenced the efficient flow and archiving of information, not to mention culture as a whole. Wax tablets - because that's what we're talking about - were suitable for personal notes, drafts, and temporary records ✍️ as they were easy to carry and could be reused by melting and smoothing the wax surface. They were widely used for personal correspondence, educational purposes, and administrative tasks. Who would have thought, right?
Tablet Makers Hut ????
These tireless artisans specialized in crafting the unique good of wax tablets. Thanks to their skills and specialized tools, they were able to coat the board with wax so that you could write or draw on it. Pretty smart! ???? As we mentioned, such tablets were used by a wide range of ancient specialists. Mouseion, Temples, Asklepiejon, or Theaters simply couldn't do without them! Needless to say, these buildings are considered a symbol of ancient Greek civilization, and it was thanks to them that society was able to thrive!
Your empire will also benefit from the presence of Apiary and Tablet Makers Hut. In fact, they may not be essential, but they will certainly come in handy in the further stages of the game. After all, a ruler that does not care about the cultural and spiritual sphere is doomed to failure!
In the following parts of the series, we will return with descriptions of many other cool structures that will ensure the safety, well-being, and development of your city. We hope that the buildings presented today will find their place among the streets of your Polis, and that they will contribute to the growth of your magnificent empire! ???? As always - thank you and stay tuned!
