RAILGRADE will be playable on Macs!
Thanks to many-many Mac gamers who took the time to ask for a Mac version! To be honest you guys are a passionate bunch!
The entire game is playable, load times are fast as you'd expect of an SSD. There are a couple minor bugs I'm still working on but I am super proud to announce we will ship a Mac version of RAILGRADE at launch!
With our heavy optimizations RAIGLRADE runs decent on the integrated M1 GPU. Do be careful at what resolution you render the game at though. The GPU in the M1 is not a dedicated GPU and was not designed to run games at super high resolutions. It does well for what it is, but please keep expectations grounded in what it is.
In either case, I truly hope Mac gamers will be able to enjoy our game :)
Sneak Peek at New Missions & Engine
Not a Mac gamer but read this annoucement anyway? Just for you here is a sneak peek. Our new "Heavy Steam" engine is nicknamed the "Kettle". You can see it alongside the weaker "Boiler" steam engine. And to the right, what is that? A large building foundation of sorts....
Intel Vs. Arm Binaries
RAILGRADE is a GPU heavy game. As such the CPU usage difference between a native ARM build and the Rossetta ran Intel binary should not be a difference which impacts frame rate. RAILGRADE is built, and heavily tested with profesional QA under Unreal 4.27. As such that is the version of Unreal I need to compile with on the Mac. Sadly full Arm support only landed in much later versions of Unreal. As such an Intel binary was the most tested/supported path to actually compiling RAILGRADE for the Mac.
Plus many Mac gamers are still using Intel Macs, and I don't want to leave them unsupported.
