Howdy everyone! Welcome to Patch 0.1.13!



There is a new boss in town! We’re thrilled to unveil Tape to Tape’s newest team: the Hockey FC. Freshly landed from their premier...or secondary league, it’s the greatest soccer has to offer: bigger nets, headers and a fair share of whiny players.

Wait, FC, as in Football Club?


As you reach the end of Act 1, prepare to face a new challenger: Leo Messier, Zinedine Zidanejad and their teammates will dribble past your players and unveil all their surprises:
  • Header Action: Picture one-timers...with more heads.
  • Scott Sterlington: The island’s premier goalkeeper will leap dive and kick balls striving for that elusive clean sheet.
  • The Wall: A dynamic human barricade that will change as the game progress. They are prepared to block your hardest shots…or so they believe…
  • Sensitive Players: Embracing a storied football tradition, Hockey FC will honor aficionados by vocalizing their grievances and lingering on the ice a tad too long after a hit.
  • Larger goals: We promise this won’t make it any easier.
  • Masterful dribbles: Hockey FC's strikers dazzle with their shifty footwork, making you second-guess those attempted bodychecks.
  • A soccer ball: It’s like a white inflated puck with some black spots....and it bounces.

Gameplay

  • New alternate Act 1 Boss added: Hockey FC

    Now, you'll have a 50% chance of facing the new Hockey FC team instead of the Referees. This is part of our ongoing campaign rework process. Stay tuned for more alternate bosses and elite teams in the future! Additionally, as previously mentioned, some existing teams will receive reworks.
  • Improved pass reception and aiming

    We've increased the accuracy and reception of passes, which also improves pass interception accuracy on all difficulties.
  • AI Changes

    We've made adjustments to players' positioning in defense, dangling, and individual movement. The AI will now provide a better sense of challenge, especially at higher difficulty levels. Players will need to be more accurate when pokechecking and bodychecking, as opponents are now more evasive when in control of the puck.

  • Goalie behavior changes

    We've upgraded the goalie's AI to include a better recovery system, particularly after making the first save. Previously, goalies were too slow to recover, often resulting in goals scored in an open net with the goalie out of position. Additionally, goalies will now react more quickly and move deeper into their crease when facing shots above them.

    When we refer to low-quality shots, it means that the AI will attempt more shots regardless of the angle or position in the offensive zone, instead of consistently scoring with perfect shots. This change aims to create a better balance in gameplay, allowing both teams to have opportunities to score and providing a more realistic experience. Players may feel frustrated if their goalie doesn't get a chance to make saves before letting in goals...OR NOT...OKAY?!?
  • Pokechecking improvements

    Pokecheck now has a higher range on Expert difficulty. We've adjusted the puck behavior to ensure it stays closer to the players instead of flipping too high in the air. This change prevents interruptions in the flow of play and reduces the chances of an ineffective pokecheck, as the opposing player would instantly regain control.

    [*] Player staggering changes

    Added a dynamic staggering system based on the bodychecking formula. When a player is bodychecked, the duration of their staggering state will vary based on the impact of the hit. For example, if a player with a low bodychecking stat bodychecks your player with a higher bodycheck stat at a slow speed, it may not cause a knockdown, and your staggering state will be shorter compared to a player with higher velocity and bodychecking stat.

    While this change may be more noticeable to experienced players, it will also contribute to the introduction of the future shootout mode.

  • Headshot redirect aiming and animation improvements
  • Improved accuracy with the Yo-yo ability
  • Small changes to the drop puck control
  • (Should feel more responsive and accurate on the direction you want to lift the puck)
  • Minor gameplay fixes when player locked

  • System

    • Controller keybinds remapping is now available

      It's finally here! We sincerely thank you all for your patience (especially you keyboard players). While the UI is still a work in progress, it is now fully functional. Don't hesitate to report any issues on our Discord or Community Hub!
    • Controller connect/disconnect notifications
    • After connecting a controller, pressing any buttons will activate it
    • Fixed an issue with controllers disconnecting when you tab out of the game
    • Holding up and down during the team selection screen will automatically flip through the teams instead of repeatedly pressing the keys

    Bugs & Fixes

    • Sprite fixes and improvements
    • AIs will now stop passing toward their net
    • Fixed missing number of the Princess goalie
    • Fixed an issue where you could not select a power-up in the reward screen
    • Fixed issues with using mouse on in-game menu
    • Fixed a bug where controls were defaulting to keyboard player for practice mode
    • Fixed helmets offsets on goal scored banners
    • Fixed a bug were team logos were flipped for lefty players in the campaign elite selection screen
    • Fixed bug that had you stuck in passing phase of tutorial
    • You are no longer able to break your stick during the tutorial
    • (Shoutout to a player report that gave us a good laugh, we are so sorry!!!!)

    What's being worked on

    • Balancing the Hockey FC based on the feecback of the community
    • Shootout mode
    • Manual goalie mode
    • New Elite team to enter the testing phase shortly
    • Visuals for the third new team
    • Tentative improvement on block shot / block pass mechanic
    • Over 20 new relics and power-ups!
