News Liste Soulslinger: Envoy of Death
Howdy fellow gunslingers!
With this third and last "The Loops of Limbo" update before the Early Access release of Soulslinger, I will tell you a bit about how you equip and upgrade yourself for and during the fight against the cartel.
As explained in the last update, Soulslinger is a roguelite FPS. In essence, the gameplay can be described as follows: fight, die, upgrade, repeat. It's a run-based shooter in which you will die often, but every run brings progress. However, we must distinguish between temporary and permanent progress. So, lets hop into a little more detail!
Soulslinger's combat system is not only based on western-inspired firearms with a unique afterlife touch, but also on powers. There are a number of essences between which you can choose, and these essences mostly offer active abilities as well as passive skills. For example, there is the "Fire Essence", "Electric Essence", "Toxic Essence" and the "Shadow Essence". For the Early Access release there will be these 4 distinct essence classes in the game. Additional further essences will follow up until the full release.
The yellow icons are active abilities, the gray one is a passive skill
Before you enter an arena through a portal, you can see what reward awaits you if you survive the battle. This can be one of the various essences, but also other useful resources, bonus levels, secret arenas, etc. You don't have to commit to one of the essences, you can also mix the essences for your skills and abilities. The focus on one essence, but also a strategic mix of essences can give you advantages.
If you focus on the "Toxic Essence", for example, you can load your weapon with poisoned bullets that damage enemies, poison them and also poison nearby enemies with a wave. This active ability paired with passive skills such as increased poison damage to enemies or enemies infecting each other with poisoning can be very effective.
But you can also use the poisoned bullets in combination with a "Shadow Essence" ability: for a few seconds you can call two ghostly Soulslinger silhouettes by your side, that fire at random enemies and use the same poisoned bullets that you use. In this way, the damage of the toxically charged projectiles can be tripled. And of course it also plays a role whether you use a shotgun with only two shots or a revolver with six shots.
The setup mixes the poisoned bullets ("Toxic Essence") with two ghostly Soulslinger silhouettes ("Shadow Essence")
When dying you lose all collected essences and essence upgrades, because those are temporary. All resources collected, which you can use to unlock and upgrade relics and weapons at the workshop, are kept after the end of each run. This allows you to prepare for your next run in the hub world Haven and try out new combinations of weapons and the various essences on your next run.
As said, this issue of "The Loops of Limbo" is the last one before the Early Access release next week. But there are two more characters that I will introduce to you in "Wanted Dead or Alive" updates - stay tuned!
As the tension rises with each passing day, I really can't wait for you all to finally play Soulslinger: Envoy of Death.
So long, friends. Have a great time!
