The journey so far
While the road ahead of Frostpunk 2 is filled with Free Major Content Updates, a console launch, and DLCs – and we’re extremely excited to show you in what ways our grand strategy / society survival game can still surprise you – we’ve also always wanted to continue our work on the city-builder survival experience that is Frostpunk 1. Both titles will continue to evolve side by side, offering players diverse and engaging gameplay experiences.

Looking back into the future
As our internal Liquid Engine, that the first game was created on, is no longer in development, we’ve been looking for other ways to further expand upon Frostpunk for years now. When working on Frostpunk 2 in Unreal Engine 5, the limitations of our own Engine became that much more apparent but it also made us realize we could finally go back to when it all began – the moment the Great Storm came over New London in 1886.
With that in mind, we’re extremely excited to announce that we’ve already started development on a new Frostpunk project – one that recreates the experience of the original game in UE. That is also why we went for Frostpunk 1886. Let us know what you think about it in the comments!

What are we aiming for?
Our goal is to expand upon it with improved visuals, higher resolution, and all the other possibilities Unreal has to offer. Something that could be a great introduction to the world of Frostpunk for newcomers, but also a title that die-hard fans of the game would love to play on repeat.
We don't want to simply recreate the first game in a new engine – it’s to build upon the original experience. That’s why we plan to implement tons of new content, new mechanics, new events, technologies, and buildings – all with the aim of creating new ways to shape your society, including a completely new Purpose path in addition to the existing Faith and Order paths.
UE also gives us the opportunity to expand upon the world of the first Frostpunk with completely new content in the future, such as DLCs. Additionally, something you've been requesting for years will soon be possible: mod support. We know how long you’ve been requesting it, and we couldn’t be happier to finally make it happen!

Legacy we are proud of
We don’t want to change the core premise of the game – the survival of the people of New London – but rather to recreate that experience with an even greater focus on the elements that made it meaningful in the first place.
While respecting the legacy of Frostpunk, we’re confident the new additions will only enrich the experience for fans and newcomers alike.
Now, we don’t want to leave you hanging without something more concrete – so here it is: we’re committed to releasing the game in 2027. Having games developed by us release more often than once every 5+ years is one of the ambitious changes we’ve taken upon ourselves – and this title is the first step toward making that happen.
For now, we’re leaving you with a tease (which we hope piqued your interest!) – but you can expect more info, including the game’s title, a first look at gameplay, and behind-the-scenes content, in the second half of the year as work on the game progresses.
Remember. The City Must...
