We're incredibly excited to announce a major update for Dark Envoy, addressing critical issues and significantly improving performance. This patch represents a culmination of months of focused effort, and we're eager for you to experience the improvements firsthand.
Key Highlights of This Update:
- Drastically Improved Memory Usage: We've made significant optimizations to memory management. Depending on the level, you'll see a reduction of 1.5GB to 3GBs of RAM usage.
This should provide a much smoother experience, especially for players with 16GB of RAM. Below are print-screens documenting improvements in memory usage in four random locations (A - is the previous build / B - is the game after Patch 1.6 / diff measures improvement in memory usage) and you can expect similar improvement across the game:
- Fixed Challenge Progression Bug: We've resolved the frustrating issue where previously completed challenges would break the game after cutscenes, notably after the final boss fight. Your hard-earned progress is now safe!
- Combat Zone Fixes: Characters will no longer be left stranded outside the combat zone during end-game boss encounters. Everyone stays in the fight!
- Multiplayer Save Fix: The issue preventing saving in multiplayer due to Vasso's persistent "in combat" status has been resolved. You can now save your multiplayer adventures without interruption.
- Shader Rendering Fixes: Visual glitches caused by incorrect shader rendering in specific conditions have been addressed. Enjoy a more polished visual experience.
- AI Skill Cooldown Fix: AI opponents will now correctly adhere to skill cooldowns, making combat more predictable and fair.

Why the Long Wait?
We know over 6 months is an agonizingly long wait, and we are profoundly sorry for the radio silence in respect to updates. Honestly, after the challenging release of Dark Envoy, compounded by the industry-wide crisis, we were facing a very real possibility of closing our doors. The team poured every ounce of their energy into this project, fighting not just technical hurdles, but also for the very survival of our studio. The memory usage issues, in particular, were a monstrous beast, demanding a complete and painful reconstruction of core systems. We risked everything to deliver a meaningful update, one that would hopefully redeem our initial shortcomings and prove our unwavering commitment to improving the game experience. After all, what doesn't kill you only makes you stronger!
We knew we had to make this update count, not just for the players, but for our own chance at survival. We sincerely hope that the effort we've put into these improvements will translate into an enjoyable and significantly enhanced experience for you. We understand that trust needs to be earned, and we truly appreciate your patience. We hope that you'll see and appreciate the dedication we've invested in making Dark Envoy even better. And, last but not least, this is not our final word!
Why the Large Patch Size (Over 25GB)?
This patch is large because of the extensive changes made to core game systems, particularly those related to memory management and shader rendering. These changes required replacing many core game files, resulting in a significant download size. We felt it was more important to deliver a comprehensive fix than to try to deliver a smaller patch that would have left many issues unresolved.
