News Liste Monaco: What's Yours Is Mine
It’s been a bit since you’ve heard from us (building a game is serious business), but we wanted to update you all on the development of Monaco 2. Rather than write a stuffy blog post, we thought we’d compile the biggest questions we’ve seen from the Monaco community and grill Pocketwatch Games CEO Andy Schatz for answers.
When is Monaco 2 coming out?
It’s coming out in 2025! (That’s all you’re gonna get outta me.)
How many players can play Monaco 2?
Up to 4 friends can play, either split screen or online. In online mode, you can also invite additional spectators. Spectators can even join mid-mission and then join in as thieves on your next heist.
What if I want to play by myself? Can I do that?
Of course! Let’s be clear, Monaco 1 was better known for its co-op than the single player. With Monaco 2, loads of care has been taken to make sure the single-player experience is compelling in its own right.
How many playable characters will there be?
There are 8 playable characters, but each has a number of trinkets that significantly change their gameplay.
Why did you switch the art style?
Monaco 1 came out over a decade ago, we wanted to make a new Monaco for a new generation of players. Since heist movies often hinge on playing with verticality and creative solutions to problems, 3d levels felt necessary for that vision.
Wait, is this game procedurally generated?
Yes and no. The levels are built in chunks, and then a procedural game director stitches them together intelligently. The main campaign uses locked seeds hand-selected by the development team, so there’s a single experience shared by all players. But you can go back and play the campaign on random seeds for additional rewards, and you can play the Daily Heists to compete against other thieves!
Does it run on Steam Deck?
Sure does!
And that’s all from Andy (for now)! We’ll be providing more updates in the coming months and expect to see more Monaco 2 information in the new year! Don't forget to Wishlist!
Happy Holidays!
