News Liste Windjammers 2
Windjammers community is like a big international family that welcomes anybody feeling the need to jam the wind, learn basics, all mechanics, and tricks to become a true champion.
Today we'd like to introduce you to Fireball who runs the largest English-speaking Windjammers Discord in the community!
Q: Can you introduce yourself in a few words?
F: Hi, I’m fireball. I am one of the longest active Windjammers players and run the largest English-speaking Windjammers discord.
Q: When was the first time you played Windjammers and with who?
F: I first played Windjammers with Velvet around 10 years ago.
Q: What was your first reaction?
F: Probably frustration, Velvet became very good very quickly and I never was able to match him evenly. That said I’m still playing so I obviously enjoyed it.
Q: How did you react when you heard that WJ2 was in development?
F: I was at EVO 2018 when it was announced. We were all very excited.
Q: Do you think Windjammers is a competitive game? If yes, why?
F: Windjammers is about as pure of a competitive game as one could get. If you play well there isn’t anything that can be done that you can’t react to. This means that the winner is going to be the person who made the least mistakes. So the game is about playing perfectly while doing what you can to try to put pressure on your opponent.
Q: How's your relationship with the Windjammers community?
F: I founded the largest English-speaking windjammers discord in late 2015.
Q: What type of WJ player are you? Mostly defensive-based, attacking-based, and/or all-round player?
F: I am one of the most aggressive players. My style is to try to keep a specific distance from my opponent, so if they push into me most of the time I’ll move back and let them take on the risk of being close.
Q: What are the key requirements to win a match when you're playing on the competitive scene of Windjammers?
F: Even when you’re aggressive the key to winning is to not make mistakes.
Q: Any advice for players who discover Windjammers for the first time?
F: Start playing very defensively. Learn your opponent's options and perfect your own (especially curves). Try not to make reads but play by reaction. If you can’t react you’re probably out of position. Also, don’t dash when your opponent is holding the disk.
Q: Would you like to see Windjammers 2 on the biggest international competitive scene? If yes, why?
F: Who wouldn’t? It’s an amazing game to both play in and watch, and I’m excited to see where it all goes.
Q: What are your favorite characters and courts?
F: Casually I try to play all of them, often rolling dice to decide. When I want to win I mostly stick to Wessel as he’s who I have the most practice with. Clay is my best court by far. I’ve pretty much mastered pushing myself up against the net to minimize my opponent's bumper options while maximizing my own.
Q: Which former WJ character would you like to see in WJ2?
F: All of them, of course. If I have to pick one Costa, cause we’ve seen a bit of everyone else.
Q: Do you think that Windjammers 2 is easy to learn? If yes, why?
F: I’ll have to spend some time with the added mechanics to answer. I think the easiest way to learn will be to ignore everything but the basic throw and lob until you’ve mastered your defense.
Q: Do you agree with people who say Windjammers is easy to learn but hard to master? If yes, why?
F: Windjammers is incredibly easy to learn and hard to master. It’s two buttons and the basic controls are very easy to understand. There’s been a lot of examples of people jumping in and being very threatening based on their reaction times alone. Learning everyone's options and perfecting your play makes you far more dangerous, and it has basically always been the case in the higher levels that the people who put in the most practice performed the best, and play just continues evolving.
Q: Anything else to say to the Windjammer Community? (veterans and/or newcomers)
F: Do you even Jam The Wind? O.O
