WE'VE GONE GREEN
You've had this build in your hands (literally!) for awhile now, but we finally got word from Valve that DEMON'S TILT is now Steam Deck Verified! When we first received our devkits the unpatched game ran pretty well. Still, it needed a little lovin'. Some basic things we changed:
- TEXT READABILITY: We didn't change much of the text, but specifically for credits and the patch notes we increased the font size to make it more readable on the small screen. Addressing this issue in the rest of the GUI requires more of a redesign. Yet, all the relevant game info seems easily readable on device.
- GUI ISSUES: We made sure the entire interface was accessible via control pad. There were some weird focus issues where you needed to use a mouse or touch screen to access some parts of the GUI.
- EXTERNAL CONTROLLERS: For some reason the pre-patch build didn't work with Bluetooth controllers on Steam Deck. That's fixed now--with the dock this would have been a major issue.
- BUGS: There were surprisingly few Steam Deck bugs--but one that we squashed was the game being stuck on medium detail mode. This inspired us to remove the detail levels as the are now totally unnecessary. Quality levels were an artifact from Early Access when the game was completely unoptimized.
Other than that, the game is just overall better with the various bugs and polish fixes we made. We're still considering some TATE options for Steam Deck. The rear buttons are user-mappable, but there probably needs to be a control rotate option like made for the Switch Lite so you can nudge properly while holding the device vertically. We just haven't found a really comfortable configuration for holding the device in TATE yet.
