Über das Spiel
Choose your team as the undead or a survivor. Enjoy their unique abilities, weapons, and challenges in this high-paced, action-packed thriller.
The Teams
As a survivor, unlock large arsenals of firearms, explosives and improvised melee weapons. Can you stop the waves of undead? Will you engage the horde head-on, or barricade and fortify while your friends play sniper? If all else fails, Panic! Then run as if your lives depend on it… for they surely do.
As a zombie, you’re free to hunt the living like the rabid beast you are. Feast upon their flesh and unlock your inner berserker. Heightened zombie night-vision gives you the upper hand in dark environments. Infect survivors as the carrier zombie (patient zero), to weaken their defenses, then sadistically watch them turn on each other. Use it all to your advantage to strategics, ambush, conquer and destroy your oblivious living counterparts.

Zombie Panic! Source
MOD auf der Source-engine
Kurzreview :

But with 3.1 its all gone.
New sounds and animations are unrealistic. Sad cuz First time ive played this game was in 2008. (on old account). So im here with this game for more than decade. I didnt play it daily, but I can say it was often. I also created a map. But Im really dissapointed with this in new update.
Why youve changed it? really
I hope I will again change my recomendation, when those sounds and animations gets serious again, as it was.

Now there are a MAXIMUM of about 30 players at any time, and only on American servers.
Devs pretend like they're working on it from time to time but nothing changes.
Only thing that would make this game worth playing is improving bot AI but they can't/won't even do that.
Officially a dead game, RIP.

- altered mechanics
- added controls and features (before playing HL2 was enough to get to grips with this games controls - now you need to read the tutorials because of the changes).
- servers wont load sometimes (no response to search requests)
- servers finally show but 'not responding' when joining despite having plenty of spaces (i didn't actually get to play 3.1.3 as I couldn't get on anything!!)
- main community and player base has left
- remaining players are far right wing Russian or screaming Mexican children.. or of the type that dominate 'upgrade' game servers with hacking and cheating while skinned as their favourite anime imaginary girlfriend.
- I feel the original simplistic game menu with the black background and bloodied tyre tracks was way more fitting than the new modern menus.
- legacy build 2.4 available under beta's, but no public servers available - join Steam group to play on occasion (not worth the trouble).
There are a few positives:
+ tutorials very good quality
+ extra content including character bio (very very good, this would have been brilliant for 2.4 that had nothing, at least nothing within the game).
+ new characters
+ soundtrack is still PURE GOLD - perfect for zombie board games or dark ambient listening. Well done Erik Grant. The soundtrack will outlast the game for sure.
I appreciate the effort that the new developers have put in to try and keep the game current. I do not write the review in spite because I know you have worked very hard. it can be seen in all the updates and hats off to you for trying...
Honestly though, you DID kill this game off. I would rather 2.4 shut down forever leaving only fond memories than have this frankenstein version dragging on year after year, soaking up negative reviews from new young players, high on modern games, until the entire internet thinks of this game as **** and it dies anyway. Let it die, and let those who were around when this game was in its prime tell the younger generations of how THIS game set the bar high for future zombie games.

If you play No More Room In Hell then you should try this game also. Source games are a staple in child hood if you had a Dell PC back in 2009. But games I never heard about like The Hidden: Source are getting way more attention than a game that's on the Steam page. I'm not saying that game does not deserve the love but it just sucks that this game is just left alone

The game is still fun in its current form. Not gonna name names, but pick your server wisely if you're not a fan of getting called slurs every 12 seconds.

Incredible gameplay and mechanics!
My wish is that one day it can be possible to do a full remake on this game with better grafics and some more details updated that would burst through the scale of popular games.

Maps have different objectives. On some, the survivors try to hold out for a certain amount of time or kill off all the zombies by running them out of extra lives. On other maps the survivors complete several tasks in order to escape.
on holdout maps, survivors ration ammo, healthkits, and must barricade and defend entrances to prevent zombies from getting in. On escape maps, survivors run around completing tasks and watching each other's backs while being ambushed and hunted by zombies.
When survivors are killed, they are switched to the zombie team and fight against their former teammates.
Upon hitting a survivor, a zombie has a small chance to INFECT them. An infected survivor eventually turns into a zombie :)
I mostly played on the zombie side, often as the 'Carrier', which is a tougher, more infectious zombie. The game always seemed fun because survivors tend to work together, with new players being taught and protected by more experienced players- in large part because the penalty for letting a survivor die means MORE ZOMBIES at a time. The mechanic works brilliantly to inspire cooperation.
The physics engine makes for slow-paced but interesting solutions to problems. Zombies can use their alternate attack to shove objects, and it takes time but this allows for interesting play!
Humans in a fortified location are using bullets to stop a couple of zombies from pushing a car next to the main house, then shoving a barrel on top of that to jump on to reach the roof and come swooping down on the unlucky survivors on the ground floor who were expecting the zombies to keep trying to break barricades on the ground floor. The cynical survivor who barricades himself in the bathroom to save only themselves will realize how flawed their selfish plan was when the door is being beaten down by 10 zombies.
A lot of fun, and seeing that there's a major update out, I plan to fire it up again one of these days! I hope you will give Zombie Panic! Source a try, as well!!

However, if you were here years ago, when it was at its prime, you know that this mod was one of a kind. ZPS was a powerhouse. It had a bustling community, so many maps to choose from and yet each one was familiar to you, and you just kept coming back. You'd play so often and you'd come to know some of the bigger community members, stick with a group of players now and then, and it was a hell of a rush. No game gives me greater adrenaline than this when I'm walking alone, no other survivors in sight or when I'm on a lake map and I spawn alone in a building just waiting for a zombie to choose my house to bang at. There was something so unique about this game that it's indescribable, or maybe just pure nostalgia.
It hurts me deeply to see something that was so great fall to this level, it makes me ache for my childhood, but all good things must come to an end. ZPS was a special, unforgettable ride. It will now rest in infamy.

This used to be a brilliant game before the updates.
The gameplay was simple and the atmosphere was scary, yet quirky. The game's design was simple and allowed for a lot of freedom in regards to how you chose to go about surviving/hunting. The fundemental mechanics like weapons and zombie abilities were easy to master. However, the game's open and free design allowed for a deeper level of metagame to master through each individual player's input. Most of this came naturally through the player's own ability to remember, assess and adapt to different types of situations and experiences.
For a long time, this brilliant game was left abandoned by its original developers and suffered a lot of issues that it quite frankly didn't deserve. And when hope finally seemed to have returned in the form of a new development team of volunteering players, it was sadly too good to be true.
It has quickly become obvious that these guys are not looking to cherish the game's original design or give the community what we have been wanting for years. They are seeking personal glory. And in doing so, they've relied primarily own their own expertise and ideas for the game, rather than listen to the community. And this has only gotten worse through the years.
After 3 years of development hell, in their new 3.1 beta, they've changed every core mechanic in the game. The guns are now hard to master because they copied the recoil system from CS:GO. Using melee, either as a survivor or zombie, is incredibly messy and unintuitive because they copied it from Contagion and never bothered testing it for bugs, because they were so busy adding a ton of other things nobody was asking them for. Because the first two changes were obviously not suited for the rest of the game, they also had to slow the fast and free movement down to a crawl. It now feels like you're stuck in tar. Gone is the original design that felt so natural and fluent. And as a result, gone are the players as well.
The developers have been criticized for not only valueing their own opinion higher than the community's(despite them having not played in years only to return to cease personal gain by becoming a dev) and delaying crucial updates by packing then full of unwanted content only to release them a buggy mess because of time constraints and bad playtesting. Many of their ideas appear objectively unfit for the game to many players when they witness how they keep changing the entire game so their ideas can be forced to fit in.
When faced with criticism, the developers behave like children. They trashtalk the community on their Discord server while pretending to care about our concerns. They dismiss people who find the older game better and tell them to go back and play that(nevermind the fact that the build they have on steam is mysteriously broken and the playerbase has been snuffed out.) They admit to not develop the game to please the big number of players that leave but instead for themselves and their discord fans. They, in fact, are out to teach them a lesson. Their Discord has become a cult where every critic has been pushed out. Members of the development team personally insult people's personality and appearance without consequences. Any attempt at reasoning with them is met with dismissal and ridicule. They play victims and whine about how hard it is to develop when you're limited to your free time. Completely oblivious to the fact that it is in fact their own eager to change the game that leads to them piling on tons of work that they have no way of realistically dealing with, despite the community telling them to stop. Then they act like we're the ones being unreasonable. Very manipulative and delusional behavior.
These guys are so caught up in their bitterness against people who don't like their product. Caught up in defending their own arrogance and willful ignorance in regards to what the game needs so that they can appear professional with a grasp on their project, even if it means lying to, and withholding key information from, the community. This would not be your priority if you were developing this game out of pure love and respect for it. It would not be a priority if you were genuinely looking to create a successful product. Nor would it be a natural reaction to critique if you truly felt like what you were doing was for the benefit of the community.
If you wish to witness the insanity that has unfolded over the years, I suggest reading through this thread:
https://steamcommunity.com/app/17500/discussions/0/1736633878446469960/?ctp=10
The developers even banned me for calling out a developer acting crazy!
These guys are bad people. And naturally they've made a bad game and will continue to do so because of their emotionally immature personalities.
Stay away!
*Reposted as the developers of the game have banned my original account. I have over 20.000 hours of playtime*
