Über das Spiel
Story:

Sadly the game has a lot of issues: the scenes and the characters were cursory, not to mention the bugs with cutscene audio. The game is just not worth the money. It took me 4h to complete the game and I took some time to go to town to buy pizza while the game was running.

Due to its shortness, the plot and the way this game progresses is ridiculously fast and feels a bit contrived at times. I literally felt like I missed a part of the game and thus, I was not able to feel an emotional connection to the characters.
However, I found that Yesterday has an attractive styling and that there was some humor in the right places, even it was brief and overshadowed by both the dark story and the over-fast pacing.
I have played previous Pendulo Studios games and generally enjoyed them, but I am not sure what they were going for here…

Damn yesterday was short
As a fan of point&click adventure games i found out that Pendulo games are kind of hidden gems, although rough around the edges. They have nice stories, characters and graphics to my liking but they usually lack a little in gameplay. Puzzles are way to hard in some of their games or they don't make sense and Yesterday is no exception.
It's a nice traditional point&click game. Like always you talk with people, look for items and look how to use them which helps you solve the puzzles.
Story is pretty dark but nothing disturbing or depressive. I loved the theme, but i think even though it's dark there's always a place form some humor.
I think the main negative point of this game is its length. It's REALLY short. I don't expect point&click games to be 20+ hours, i get bored if these games get so lenghthy, but this one is around 4-5 hours which is too short even for this kind of game. In my opinion games like this should be around 10-15 hours. The reason for this is that when it's so short it ends just when you start feeling connection with characters and start getting involved in the story.
Graphically it's well done. All the areas are nicely drawn and are very enjoyable to explore. Cell shaded characters look pretty good too. Overall the game looks very pleasing to your eye.
Is it worth getting? If you're a fan of the genre i'd say it's must, it's not great, it has its lows and highs, a good game. If you see it on sale just get it.
Pros
- Interesting story
- Good variety in environments
- Graphics are good
Cons
- Very short
- While the game is good that's what it is, only good, nothing exceptional about it

There is either no save system in the game or it wasn't working. I picked a save slot at the beginning but apparently this did nothing. I assumed it was periodically autosaving since I got no information about it and the game has no menu that shows a save option or anything like that.
So, when I came back after the crash, it wanted to start me over at the beginning again.
I'm not interested enough in how it comes out to do that.

Like every Pendulo game out there, “Yesteday” hits the spot visually with absolute ease. Colorful yet soft-hued backgrounds will serve as a perfect vehicle for a surprisingly dark, intense story. Progress is built on exhausting dialogue options, examining your surroundings and extensive use of inventory while solving puzzles that are, for the most part, logical but aren’t without “let’s try everything on everything” moments. Despite being very cinematic, “Yesterday” isn’t the case where you simply direct your character with an occasional press of a button to make a “choice”. It is a true, engaging point and click adventure, but those gameplay moments consistently interrupted with yet another cutscene… At a playtime around 4 hours, it almost amounts to “watching” this game as often as actually playing it.
The story ramps up from the very beginning and gets complex fast. There are cults, alchemy, murders, torture, world-hopping, memory loss… You name it, it’s probably here. We get to play different characters, including the evildoers. We get to play in different time periods. We get to… There’s just so much! While the elaboration works in the grand scheme of things, 4 hours is just not quite enough to carry all that complexity. Some games can manage to start, develop and fully complete the story within this time span, but “Yesterday” sets out to accomplish so much that it ends up feeling upsettingly short.
It’s also the case of a game with every character being either on the bad side of things or largely morally ambiguous, so it’s possible to walk away with not liking anyone or simply not caring much. I followed John’s story without much investment in him or Pauline. If you need strong connection to characters to be engaged – this might not be a good choice.
The writing, on the other hand, delivers a high-quality, engaging experience. The dialogue largely reads like a fashionable thriller with “flawed characters” defiantly stating how messed up they are; bad guys indulgently talking about gruesome things they love doing, and of course having an unreliable narrator – John -at the helm of things, keeping to a morally gray area with occasional slides to either side. The voiceover plays into all of that wonderfully. Almost every character has a voice that manages to convey a certain trait even through trivial dialogue; needless to say, when things get taken up a notch – voice actors reflect all of that with brilliant intensity. So does the ambient music that keeps up with the tension of the game and ends up being a pleasant companion, but never a distraction.
“Yesterday” will work best for those who know what they want from an adventure game. If you don’t expect next “Runaway”; if you’re OK with story taking over gameplay; if you don’t mind your game being part film at the core, or if you’re a fan of dark twisted thrillers – you’ll most likely enjoy it. For all the other curious adventure fans, keep in mind the length of the game and if it seems interesting – try to get it in the bundle (it seems to be a part of many), this might just be your thing.

I liked the characters personality, each one of them is unique. I'm not going to spoil anything, but you'll be the one who chooses their fate. The tone of the game keeps changes as it shows you things from the past and the current events. It might confuse some people but the puzzle pieces will connect in the last part of the game.

The puzzles were direct in the game, but my problem was is combining items, the drag and drop list of items was a bad choice, clicking them would have been easier. The hints and hot spots highlights do help a lot if you ever got stuck in the game. I still don't know what is the use of some of the items I've picked, like the pen and papers.

I liked the art style of the game, you might not like it in the beginning but the comic style is really fun. Although it has a well-done voice-over, it is not fully voiced. Some of the scenes have only text. The music is alright, nothing special about it.
Pros:
+Interesting dark story with multiple routes.
+OK soundtracks.
+Very well done voice over.
+Good animation and characters design.
+Replay value.
+Hinting system.
Cons:
-No Steam achievements.
-Quite short if you use a guide.
- No manual save.
It took me around six hours to finish the game without using a guide, I've seen some people said it is a short game, yes it can be short if you know where to go. I do recommend this game to point&click lovers and people who enjoy dark themed stories.
