Fehler 1:

On one hand, I have so much fun learning about the mechanics of the naval battles and the historical ships (the main reason why I got into warships). On the other hand, the game has horrible balancing system and you can't really progress without throwing money at WarGaming's face.
I love playing this game but since it is a pay-to-win game, I won't recommend this game to my friends.

The balance of the ship classes leave so much to be desired. Aircraft Carriers that have far too many buffs harass you constantly with virtually no way to defend yourself. At this point you can't even shoot them down once they start their attack run... which is the MOST vulnerable moment for planes. This forces players to play soft and clump up making for boring sniper matches. Subs are back and have homing torpedoes which is fun for sub captains sure, but again, there is virtually no way to defend yourself other than to use a damage control ability to wipe a sonar ping, but you need those for all the HE farmers that light your ship on fire every 30 seconds. This adds more reason to be timid and hang back.
I could go on, for example a single premium ship costing as much as your typical AAA title, while some list for $100. Or the incredible amount of time it takes to grind ship tech trees, only encouraging you more to purchase their overpriced premium ships. Don't spend the money. Enjoy the free tiers.
To conclude, lately I find myself ending a session of WoW's with a frustrated feeling of helplessness. You play the objective, work hard for your team, angle, change course, dodge dodge dodge, only to rack up minimal damage and burn/flood to death from overpowered carriers or buffed submarines. While the brawls and exciting exchanges are fewer and farther between matches. This game is the definition of love/hate. So with that said, I can't fully recommend it. Maybe try it, but be wary about sinking any money into it.
Update... After 10 mores hours of play since writing the review, I am done. Just uninstalled. I spent the last hour being constantly tormented match after match by carrier (CV) players who I am sure are having just a great time. There is NO DEFENSE against these ship classes, especially when they are a decent captain. It breaks the game. The last straw was starting a Tier 8 match and watching the enemy CV take HALF MY HEALTH in two passes with the same squadron. That's absolutely ridiculous. I do think CV's have a role in this game. I don't think they should be removed. But this is what ruins the play for anyone that loves Captaining a classic BB from WW1 or WW2. I would literally have to abandon an entire class of ships to even remotely enjoy this any longer. And that's horrendous game design. They just want your money. And will employ any gimmick to get it.

In this game all ships have levels 1 to 11 (in roman letters I to X with superships that are unofficial level 11).
This game has many Nations (USA, GERMANY, etc).
As a new player, you can get one level 1 ship for free from each nation.
Start with a level 1 Ship from any nation you like, to learn to play the game!
I advise you to play only CO-OP in the beginning. Play Random, only when you feel experienced.
With the experience you gain on your level 1 ship, you can buy a level 2 ship, then a level 3 ship and so on.
You can buy many very good ships just with the experience you gain on ships. You never need to buy Premium ships with real money.
A level 2 ship is always better, faster, more powerful than a level 1 ship. And a level 10 ship would destroy a level 1 ship just by looking at it. For this reason the game never lets you fight a ship that is 3 levels above yours. As a level 3 ship, the game will let you fight against level 1,2 (that are weaker than your level 3 ship) and against level 4 and 5 (that are stronger than your level 3 ship). With your SKILL you can beat a level 5 ship with your level 3 ship.
But:
All ships level 1 to 4 are considered WORTHLESS once you learned to play, they are tutorial ships. They are worthless because they are weak, and they are worthless because they get much much less rewards for winning.
Almost all rewards are given ONLY to ships level 5 to 11.
For this reason, NEVER BUY A PREMIUM SHIP THAT IS BELOW LEVEL 5 WITH REAL MONEY.
They are cheap, they get discounted, because in reality they are WORTHLESS.
As a new player gain experience and learn to play the different types of ships, and in the short term concentrate on ships of level 5 and/or 6 (in roman letters V or VI). With the experience you gain on your ships, you can buy higher level ships. You can buy many very good ships just with the experience you gain on ships. You never need to buy Premium ships with real money.
Ships of level 5 (V) are OK ships that get almost all rewards of the game but level VI ships are better and are able to also do OPERATIONS.
If you really want to spend some real money on this game as a new player, buy ONLY ships that are level 5 or 6.
So, based on what I have explained to you, this is my review of the ships you can buy for real money on steam:
Smith, level 2, absolutely worthless
Tachibana Lima, level 2, absolutely worthless
Ishizuchi, level 4, absolutely worthless (exclusive starter pack)
Yubari, level 4, absolutely worthless
Texas, level 5, this is an incredibly boring ship because it is very slow and has a very long reload time. You wait for your ship to arrive to the battle and each time you shoot you wait a long time for it to reload. the only advantage of the ship is that it is level 5 and that it is very difficult to die in this ship.
Oktyabrskaya Revolutsiya, level 5, a russian version of the Texas, just slightly better
Marblehead Lima, level 5, good
Huanghe, level 6, good, but it is a Chinese ship
Anshan, level 6, good, but it is a Chinese ship
Prinz Eitel Friedrich, level 6, very good, is the most expensive ship sold on steam because it is the best ship sold on steam. But inside the game you can buy 300+ other, better ships.

The thing that made me download this game was a deep appreciation for maritime engineering and history. Very familiar with events in both theatres of naval conflict in world war two, I thought I'd give this a go, so I started as Japan, with the hopes of wielding some of the world renowned carriers of the Kido Butai. Unsurprisingly, unless you pay to win, the game doesn't let you use a carrier right away, as it's a complex role that allows for fantastic team support in the right hands, or useless vamping in the wrong ones.
So I started off using the Japanese cruisers, and was instantly impressed at the gameplay I experienced. As I played a little more my Japanese cruisers felt exactly as they should compared to other nations, a little lighter in armour, more manoeuvrable, and true to history, very accurate, although their guns are of a generally lower calibre, than say America or Germany.
I was hooked. The subtlety of the game's accuracy itself seemed to draw me in, and I enjoyed sticking to my role, working with other cruisers to rip apart battleships, or escorting battleships of my own to run interference and support with my superior AA fire.
Then I unlocked a destroyer. And I sucked at playing a destroyer because I lack the crafty patience you need to be good. So I played more cruiser. As an aside, they've added subs now. Subs are basically destroyers, but because they're fully submerged their gameplay generates more salt. It's scientifically proven.
Then I unlocked battleships, and then I felt like I was hitting my stride. Japanese battleships were some of the fastest, and the nation produced some of the first effective battlecruisers, and these were wonderfully well observed, a joy to use as you got familiar with carving whilst engaging, dodging incoming fire whilst obliterating your slower, more heavily armoured opponents with your, again, consistently devastating comparative accuracy.
Then after many hours I remembered the actual purpose of me downloading this free game. So I sucked it up to play a few destroyer games so that I could finally take on the challenge of playing carrier. A challenge that would earn me many ribbons and medals, as I found this to be my ideal role, but of all the awards I received, the joy of being called toxic by my opponents, truly was the gift that kept giving. But I don't care, my torpedo bombers from the land of the rising sun were the best in world war two, I couldn't hear your insults from the glub glub glub of your tragic battleship disappearing to the depths with several ruptures along it's torpedo belt.
A small compilation of unlikely but brilliant experiences: Getting shotgunned by a destroyer that thought it was clever for hiding behind a rock from my battleship, jumping out and point blanking me with 9 torps, steering inbetween them, and then ramming said destroyer for an instant kill as I brushed the scratch on my hull. Dive bombing a ships magazine and one shotting a battleship at 70% health as the shells under it's turret detonated briefly for an explosion that could be seen from 25km away.
One of the players on my team even told me I did a good job once. Good times.
I haven't even mentioned other nations, but I play them too now, they're just as deep and well observed, and just as satisfying in their own ways, all are balanced, all feel authentic.
So yeah, for a free game I didn't expect to enjoy, this was pretty lit. Give it a try.

Only thing I really hate about it is that you cannot change server, when you want to. I have both friends in EU, and NA, but I can only play on 1 server and if you want play on both servers you must install the game twice. Meaning instead of 55GB it takes 100GB for the same game just too play on two servers that doesn't count if you want to play on one of the other servers as well
So it gets my recommendation and it doesn't

Fun and exciting game, which you can play for hours. The only negative part is. That you have you grind like a maniac to get any stronger ships. But if you do enjoy the game. The grind won't matter as much ;)
There is plenty of different ships to try out from different countries such as battleship/cruiser/aircraft carrier/destroyer and later on submarine. You have to predict where the enemy ships will be at whenever you aim for firing your shells of AP or HE. To be able to hit them. However the shells are quite spread out, so even if you aim precisely, not all the shells will hit their target. So continue firing away until the enemies are all sinking! :D
I'm waiting for submarines atm. Then I'll play it again.

Also... that you'd have to start over on Steam is a no-no. It can't be Steams fault, since other companies manage to make it work.
If you do have an existing WoWs account that you invested precious time in (and maybe even money), and do not for some reason wish to start over from scratch, DO NOT play on Steam. If you're now, and resistant to frustration, be my guest.

- Carrier balance is a joke (carriers have basically unlimited planes)
- More and more fantasy ships (looking at you Russia), or nonsensically implemented mechanics on new ships (new ships = more opportunities of spending money)
- Owner/developers have their 'special' view of the state of the game which goes against the opinion of most players (for examples a number of well known streamers)

It went from a slightly grindy but fun game to a buggy pay-to-win mess with no internal consistency whatsoever.
The game is frustrating because you depend on your performance to progress in a reasonable amount of time, but this performance can get crushed by things that are completly out of your hand, like sudden lagspikes, crashes, penetration calculations that seem so wierd that it is either a bug or the shell animations do not remotly indicate the shell hitboxes, enemies that can snipe you from the other edge of the map without getting spotted, HE-Spam from multiple ships at once, nearly unbeatable carriers etc. and not to forget your own teammates that seem to do everything in their ability to make the game a loss.
In other words:
No matter what ship you drive you can get oneshot or at least almost killed anywhere at any time with no chance for you to retaliate or even retreat, if it doesn't straight up crash or bugs out to ensure that you die.
You have to invest immense amounts of either time or money to progress to other ships and when you finally reached the ship of your dreams, you get killed by some wierd bs or your teammates (who probably didn't wanted to grind roughly around 3-4 hrs a day for several months to reach T10, but had too much money) do anything to make sure you don't get too much ressources at the end of the battle by either suiciding or spawncamping.
I can't even say that this might change, since the publisher doesn't see any issues with the game and thus doesn't intend to fix the obvious problems, instead they just squeeze in more content by building fantasy ships and give them arbitrary gimmicks to fit them somewhere between the existing ships.
It isn't even worth to play for the community aspect, since the myriad of problems that the people playing this game experience and the resulting frustration created one of the most toxic playerbases I have witnessed so far. So you can either watch or participate in heated discussions full of insults and frustrations, because that basically is 90% of interactions you will experience with other players.
All in all this game mocks you for every bit of attention you give it and insults what World of Warships once was and could have become.

The game is good graphic wise. Wide variety of ships to choose from, 4 types of ships to play as. The mighty Battleship that is lliterally too angry to die and then dies anyways while delivering a nasty salvo that obliterates a puny ship that dared to approach him. The HE spam-specialist Cruiser that will set you on fire or die trying as a pyromaniac trying to burn the ocean. The sly and methodical Destroyer who will plan how to either carry the game as a torpedo packing monster or die first as target of enemy shells or another destroyer torpedoes. And lastly the Carrier, the ship that will earn you the most hate out of every single player because F planes and F you.
The bad part of the game relies on 2 main things: Comunication and Balance. The devs striaght up don't hear the community. They will act upon their own priorities and they always hace some kind of drama going around. Recently, they lied about the contents of paid containers (Loot boxes in essence) that could contain premium ships. The devs said that all paid ships could be obtained from said container, but in reality it was only a certain pool of them that was available.
Balance is another con of the game. You have to grind the F out of the game to reach High tier of ships. Some ships are ok, but most of them are subpar. Where are the good ships then? PREMIUM SHIPS. You want something good? open your wallet and pay up for a premium ship because its better than 90% of the grindy stuff.
There are others things too, like having to grind up to tier 8 and up to get to ranked games, which is a downer for free2play competitive players since this ties them to a ling grind to rank.
Don't take me wrong, the game is fun. But the monetization aspect of this game is straigth up abusive.

In casual match the actual fun and worthy match won't begin unless you have at least a tier V ship. Premium ships are OP AF, in other word: P2W, or you can grind some of them (the less OP ones) for like 2-3 months for one tier X (the top tier) ship. The devs also seems to be biased in favor to Russian, which there are many Russian ships are too good compared to other ships from its tier, but the opposite happen to German ships, which they make them very crappy (except the high tier Aircraft Carriers & Destroyers).
But, idk.
The game is fun.
So I press the thumb up button.

The Game is Not a Simulator, nor is it complete arcade, it is a blend of both which works very well! But you do need to put the time in, you are not going to get to a Tier X ship in a week as a new player!! So I suggest asking for advice or joining an active clan to assist you.
All in All I have spent many an hour sailing over the (Virtual) oceans firing volleys of rounds or tubes of torpedoes against unsuspecting enemies and foes!!

then you'll get put against people that have no life and be forced to carry your whole team all the while lit on fire three times over and that's if your a battleship if you decide to play as a more mobile/support option like a cruiser prepare your smokestacks to be citadeled by every single player in the match (its this games version of being head shot by taking an AP round into your engine or ammo mag)
Dev's if your reading this. Honestly it is way to easy to light someone on fire and burn them down if you build for it.
if you want to fix it change it. no i'm not talking about a nerf why don't you make it so while on fire you take more damage from rounds or your ship reloads slower (because now your crew would be focused on fighting the fire] you should still take a small amount of damage over time but can you honestly ever say that a BB would be taken down by a lonely little DD hiding in a smoke screen blasting HE from 10K away?
oh and one more thing US cruisers dont have torps or smoke screens can you please me it harder for people to land a citadel? want proof load up in a T7 us cruiser and run 3 random matches ill guarantee you get citadeled AT LEAST 3 times in those 3 matches
all in all i want to love this game (on some level i do) the great matches are amazing but when you get bad match ups over and over again its really hard to get the drive to keep playing

The game itself is fun, and though not completely historically accurate (see other reviewers), it does peak your interest in naval warfare history. Controls are easy to pick up, and the short nature of the strategic matches makes it easy to jump into a game for 10 minutes and be done. It's quite a positive for busy schedules. It also has an adult community, and I haven't yet experienced the toxic community that are evident in many games.
That being said, there are plenty negatives. For one, the grind is mind-numbing. Yes, it's FTP, but if you don't have a Premium account, the grind redefines 'tedious.' Even with the premium account, the game is a chore and the amount of experience points needed to research the next level ship gets ridiculous. The developers also feel the need to entice you with new ships occasionally, but only start you out with 5 tokens, and the cost is somewhere around 200 tokens starting. The killer though is the price structure. When ships can cost $70 -$100, you either have to be filthy rich, swiping Daddy's credit card without his knowledge, or having a manic episode. If it's the latter, I hope you seek some help and have someone monitor your game play, because these developers have structured this game such that you seriously have the potential to become homeless from not paying your bills. $100 for a digital ship?! Seriously?! Who pays this?!
While I'll likely hop on for a game or two here and there, I won't be sinking any $ into it, and I can't in good conscience recommend this game.

This is a game that starts simple, with a gentle learning curve and protected matchmaking for new players. It'll be fun. You'll research new ships, unlock missions, join a clan...and then you'll inevitably hit a fun wall. Try being in a match against enemy Aircraft Carriers and having virtually no counter. Try being in a match with a Tier 5 glass cannon Cruiser against veterans in Tier 7 ships that sink you with one salvo. The power difference between tiers is slight to start with, and very wide at the top tiers. And this is a game that wants you to be at the bottom of the food chain, so you'll pay to get to the top faster, or pay for a Premium ship because you think it will help you. It won't.
This is a game that is hard to master (which is good), but driven by marketing decisions and predatory practices (sunk cost fallacy, fear of missing out) that emphasises corporate greed over player enjoyment (this is bad). It was once fairly balanced, with only the United States Navy and Imperial Japanese Navy, and no Aircraft Carriers. But then came German, British, French, Commonwealth, Pan-American, Pan-European, and of course Russian. It's a Russian company, and they swear there is no bias. They try to make all nations have different playstyles (this is good) but as more ships are added the internal balance becomes more ridiculous, so now we have French Destroyers that go over 55 knots, and European torpedoes that travel at over 90 knots!
And the Russians? Well they seem to be blessed by having the most damage resistance, the biggest guns, and fast-turning turrets. We are all waiting Russian Aircraft Carriers to be introduced to see what these apex predators look like. As a general rule, the better a ship was in real life the worse it will be in the game, because reality imposes design compromises that paper ships don't. And this is a company that claim Realism is part of the game DNA. Researchable ships are meant to represent a entire class, but Premium ships are marketed to represent their historical namesake and appeal to collectors. The models can look fantastic, but never forget that gameplay comes first and accuracy takes a back seat. Speed and gun calibre may match, but rudder shift speeds, turning circle, acceleration, turret traverse, velocity, penetration, bursting charges, torpedoes, AA, and most of all concealment are simply a fantasy. Put emotion aside: you're not buying the real ship (and when I say buy I really mean rent).
In the last year and a half the game has changed for the worse. The developers ignore all negative feedback and simply push through on changes that make the game worse. We used to have Aircraft Carriers with strategic gameplay and air supremacy counterplay; now we have a very dumbed down flight simulator for attack planes and no way to counter. We used to have 11 pve Operations rotated weekly; now we have 5, and the rewards have been nerfed. We now have a Research Bureau for an elite of players who have researched 5 ship lines all the way to Tier 10 to get extra goodies; the community protested because it locks away advantages behind a grindwall, and nobody really wanted to regrind entire lines they already spent years on. We are going to get Submarines shortly, to add a fifth matchmaking class; nobody asked for them, but it will help sell new ships so we're getting them and to hell with the gameplay experience. The developers claim that change is needed to avoid stagnation but the community are dropping out from change fatigue. It is no coincidence that the positive reviews you will read are from those with hours played in single or double digits; the negative ones from those with hundreds and thousands of hours played who are passionate about the game and extremely disappointed. But the same people driving these bad decisions are still in their jobs, and the money is flowing in, and that's all they care about. When it comes to the players the developers always choose the path of least generosity, for their virtual (i.e. worthless) stuff, but when players who pay real money for stuff feel cheated they'd rather upset everybody rather than contemplate any compensation. That's who you're dealing with, guys.

1. 2000k free xp Smaland. Yes. Nice. Spend 8 hours in WoWS every day to acquire a ship. This is as bad as Puerto Rico.
2. Make Jean Bart leaving the premium shop. I understand Smolensk is a bit more op, but Jean Bart did not destroy the game environment. And you just let it go. Damn it, then how can I buy multiple Tier X ships?
Also, you are making every high tier historical ship unavailable and adding unreal ships. Can you just nerf them if they are too op? A little change in the stats and every player would be happy. The worst way to reduce the appearance of some ships is to make them unavailable.
3. Remove the 12500 doubloon + 30 days premium account bundle. This bundle is nice and everyone could buy it when they need it. If you really need money, just leave this bundle here and we'll happily pay for it, win-win.
4. Matching system. I just can't understand why the guys matching my just-out-of-the-port Moskva is R1 players from purple clans? Just add a hidden valuing system would help much, however simple it is.
5. Bots. Every match has bots. Just one bot could destroy the whole gaming experience.
6. Give me Al. Nevsky or Petropavlovsk. You are breaking your promises. Keep on doing it and no one would trust you then.
7. PvE. My Izmail did 10k damage and what I received is much less than doing 4k damage in a ramdom battle. Wow, nice, you could just remove all PvE now (except for Newport).
8. I DON'T WANNA CLIMB THE HARUGUMO LINE 6 TIMES JUST TO MAKE MY DES MOINES ABLE TO ENTER CW.
In conclusion, f**k you WG.

In contrast though it won't let you queue if you and your friend are separated by two tiers although it'll gladly put you against unfair odds.
The monetization (via premium ships and other stuff) it's damn annoying, bad enough that getting higher Tier ships, particularily VIII - IX - X Tiers is a complete chore and an unending grind but the premium ships they do sell are often times just a tiny bit more powerful than their same tier brethren like Massachussetts for instance.
I know how this must look, by the things I've been saying I should hate the game, but in reality I don't, I love the gameplay and the strategy involved, how epic the battles feel otherwise I wouldn't have sunk 100+ hours on it. Still it has a lot of issues and unlike other players that will yell at anyone who dares criticize it I will mention both its good side and its bad side.

Advice to anybody wanting to try it is:
- Not progress through the tiers too quickly
- Learn the game mechanics around spotting and shell penetration
- Dont buy a tier 10 premium when you first start as your not going to have a good time
Other than that, enjoying blatting away with HE at everything that moves!
