-Retro-Optik
-Puzzle-Gameplay
-Handgezeichnete Grafik (Kein zufallsgenerierter Quark)
-Nette Story
-Moderater Schwierigkeitsgrad

Klarer Daumen hoch.

Played the demo and never looked back.

Really atmospheric and each upgrade for the element was really satisfying to use.
Playing poorly was a great time.
Playing with super exact no detection run was also fun.
Getting all the upgrade stones was great.

I just think this was a really well put together game and that shows in every part of the game.
The art is so nice
The music is really calming and suited.
The settings for each level is really thought out.
Mechanics of the game are so satisfying to use.

10/10
Really recommend this game.

The game has some interesting mechanics, and it's basically a puzzle/stealth game with specific goals for each level. More of a thinker/problem-solving game than anything else. Which isn't really what I was expecting. So the game's fun, but it got boring for me, because I wanted it to be something else.

Still giving it a thumbs up though, because when you're in the mood for that sort of thing, this game can be fun. I don't know how much content there is, but the map seems pretty big so I can fathom it's worth the price point.

Wildfire is quite enjoyable! And before you consider buying the game you must understand it's a puzzle game. It's not if you can complete the levels because they're kinda easy. But completing them the way you want can be challenging. I enjoyed the stealth mechanic and figuring out the best way through. I'm a fan of stealth games and Mark of the Ninja is one of my favorite games.

So the magic in Wildfire is the star of the show. It's fun to throw elements at enemies to see what happens. They're not the brightest crayon in the box. The mechanics are interesting and unlike anything I've played before. And it opens up a lot of options for completing a level. You can choose to use the elements to burn down everything or scare the enemies. There's a lot of opportunity to freestyle your way to the end. It works very well.

The stealth works well enough but I could have used a little more health. Wildfire shows sound bubbles and the guard's alert statuses. But you will have to learn some of those sounds, like dropping from a far distance. I understand it's a challenge to show the player the information but it led to many mistakes. Also, the enemy's line of sight isn't obvious. Some enemies could see me through a crack and others were somewhat blind. That kind of inconsistency is annoying but didn't completely ruin the experience.

Anyway, if you're anything like me you'll want to replay levels. The first time through to complete it and then a few more times to get all the optional objectives. I think the game is a little pushy about these alternative goals. So much so it seems like they're required. YOU DON'T HAVE TO DO THIS. I really wanted to replay levels because the side quests are interesting. Burning 90% of the vegetation or completing a level without getting wet is what I came for. If you're the type of person that must 100% something before moving on this could be a problem. Some of the objectives can take a long time with a lot of waiting.

Overall, Wildfire is fun and made me remember why I like stealth games. There's a wide range of fun mechanics and the magic is fun to use. There are complaints about the controls and platforming. While not perfect Wildfire is a puzzle game, not an action platformer. DO NOT try jumping over enemies to escape. Wildfire is a good game but not a great game. I recommend it for methodical players who want to take their time to solve a puzzle.

Not really the game for me. I saw the game's development on TikTok and was enraptured by the pixel art and the preview videos for the game. I clearly missed that it was somehow a stealth game. I've found it to be extremely frustrating to play and all around not something that engaged me, despite the fact that I generally love platformers and stealth games, the execution of those two together is clearly not for me. If that sounds like something interesting to you, that certainly the game is not bad, just not something I enjoyed. Love the music and visuals, if you are the target audience here, def pick it up!

Gameplay
Very enjoyable core gameplay, including the stealth and mechanics of each element. The variety of the missions/levels was great, with the game divided into multiple major areas each with many individual levels. The structure of each level was a plus, especially the optional objectives you could come back and complete later (I especially enjoyed the time-related challenges).
Each major area was different enough to keep the gameplay fresh, with new objectives/enemies/mechanics introduced in most of them.
I really enjoyed the mechanics of each element the player gained access to, with each having their own specific utility. None felt especially more useful/fun as any of the others, which encouraged using them all.

Story
With the protagonist silent, most of the story comes from dialogue or events witnessed from other characters. The story and setting itself was interesting, especially with how it related to the elements the player gains access to.

Art & Sound Design
The background and level art was great, very well made. They were also hugely varied, from jungle areas to snow-capped mountains and eventually to a large city. The sound design was good as well. It never got old to hear the panicked screams of enemies once you decide to light the map on fire!

Overall
Overall a solid game experience, which took me around 12 hours considering I went back and completed many of the optional mission objectives. I'd definitely recommend this.

Wildfire is great fun... if you don't play it the way all the negative reviews tell you to.

Take a scroll through them, then come back to this review. Notice how they're all complaining about needing to replay levels over and over again to perfect them?

Well, fun fact, you actually don't need to do that. There are optional objectives, which sort of serve the same purpose as what you'd find in the HITMAN: World of Assassination trilogy. Just like in the recent Hitman titles, those objectives are there to offer replay value and to let you know just how much possibility space there is within the game's mechanics, but they are entirely optional on a first runthrough of the story.

You get small rewards for completing those objectives, yes, (increased health, longer throwing range, Steam Achievements, etc.) but they're mostly useful for messing about when otherwise fully upgraded. They're not necessary to get any of the cool stealth and combat abilities that actually help you progress through the game... sort of like unlocking new guns and throwable items in Hitman.

If you save the speedrun, ghost, no kill, and no save challenges until after you've gotten a lot of abilities, they're much easier, way more fun, and more mechanically interesting due to your massively increased selection of skills. Don't just grind out the same level over and over again before moving on. Play it through, maybe complete a few levels without being spotted, but don't be afraid to play through your mistakes instead of restarting the level.

The unique optional objectives (the ones that each give an achievement) are also often easier with more powers, but they can almost always be completed on a first playthrough of a level if you're careful, so don't be afraid to try for those, just don't restart just because you failed an optional objective unless that sounds fun to you.

TL;DR: If you don't enjoy repeatedly failing optional objectives, just move on to the next level. You'll get better, your abilities will get better, you will have a lot more fun if/when you come back to complete them, and you'll progress through the upgrade tree a lot faster too. Try not to reset unless you need to, because finding solutions to messy situations is super fun!

I really wanted to like this game but the options do not save and the controls are terrible, at least with controller. There's so many times where for absolutely no reason my guy throws the fire I'm holding in a direction I did not specify or even without hitting the trigger (This is not an issue with my controller as this sort of thing doesn't happen in any other game). It also doesn't feel like a full game yet as there's a fair bit of jank to it. It might be intentional but it's just not up to par with other similar games that I've played.

Very fun, funny, and creative! Every map provides multiple ideal solutions to each puzzle and when all else fails the player can forge their own not-so-ideal solutions. Having a ton of fun playing it through a second time. The game feels a little short, but has plenty of replay value.

Decent 2d stealth platformer with cool art style and fun elemental system set in classic fantasy setting. Overall, it is an enjoyable experience and it is fun to mess around with different elements, but main shortcoming that limits game potential is bad level design. If you not expect hardcore stealth fun, check it out.

Pros:
- Great pixel graphics;
- 3 elements to play with;
- Responsive controls;
- Some mission variety;
- Replayability (New game+ and option to turn on advance enemy AI);
- Most of soundtrack is great;
- Good upgrade system;
- Enemy variety;
- Co-op;

Cons:
- 4/5 of levels is overly liniar;
- Some bugs;
- Lack of manual saves;

edit: now i changed it to negative, because after completing the game and making a new game, all my old progress is gone and the old game file is gone as well, as if i had never played. the only reason i wanted to play again is because it said i would have all my abilities and points in a new game after finishing the whole game. this is ridiculous. if i want to play with all the points i'll have to play the game THREE times!!!

Very fun classic looking sidescroller. the graphics for the elements are really cool, especially fire. the only things i don't like is that the autosave or checkpoints don't seem to save often enough so i will have to redo 10 min of game time which is really annoying, and if you walk too far ahead of the villagers you save they glitch through the floor and can die or get stuck. for some reason i always have to change the settings so i don't get fall damage even though i always have it on (it turns off by itself). i also really wish we would be able to equip more than 3 badges.

i'm very curious to see what remote play is like for this. i hope they make another game or add onto this one

Wildfire is a really cute but short (6 hours) indie game.

This game is set in the Middle Ages. Inquisition (witch hunt) is still common. The two main characters you play in co-op are witches. The monarch's soldiers try to kill them, but they do not succeed. Instead, each time they try to kill them, the witches acquire the element they were supposed to be killed with. First fire, then water, then earth.

The game is divided into small levels. You have to reach the end and travel through different regions to do so. You learn new skills, rescue prisoners, kill soldiers and sneak around a lot. This game is very much about staying undetected, mastering jump and runs and using your abilities logically.

The pixel art style is well done. The story is nothing special, but it is quite nice. The soundtrack was very nice and always appropriate to the situation.

Really great game if you play it with a friend. A really welcome surprise! I absolutely recommend this game.

On both the surface and deep within, Wildfire is a success, and we definitely see this as a franchise in-waiting. Hopefully all the fanfare and positive critical reception the game has received so far continues, and we see it go beyond even Sneaky Bastards’ own expectations. There’s room for it to land on consoles down the track too, where it would fit nicely. Especially having played it on PC using a controller (which I found more rewarding than the initial mouse and keyboard approach). But all of that will depend on how it’s openly received by punters now that it’s out in the wild.

Heard on Twitter that some scumbag was stealing your game assets to make NFTs, bought this game out of pure spite. **** NFTs and **** anyone who supports them.

ANYWAYS, this is a really good game. Best point of reference for me is the Oddworld series; so if you enjoyed those games, you'll feel right at home here. Nothing is more enjoyable than sending guards into a panic over a burning bush.

Don't worry about not being able to complete all the objectives in one go, you can always come back to earlier levels to do what you want.

EDIT: Oh by the way, you know those offering basins that give you skill points depending on what element you throw in them? Yeah, you can't change that. Once you toss a fireball into that basin, you can't change it no matter how many times you repeat the level; so think carefully about what you want to upgrade.

I really wanted to like this but just couldn't get the enjoyment that I thought it would provide. The main wildfire mechanic just isn't satisfying enough to keep me engaged and I was hoping for the fire to be more like 'Noita' with true ground / level destroying physics for a more entertaining (... and possibly more random) game play loop. Not a bad game at all just not enough for me.

- Co-op is impossible, the delay is to big. Be it if they have the game or not. There internet being perfect, it has no effect.

- There are auto saves that take over saves you don't want to be saved over.

For ex. At one point i was at the exit with all but 1 villager to rescue. But at the bottom there where bobcats. I had fire but the villager did not want to go down unless i did. In doing so i got bounced around by bobcats like no ones business. Every hit passing the checkpoint and regenerating to full HP. Result, the only save i had left was the one right before the bobcat would attack me. And i would need to do the entire mission again. And i just did it perfectly and i was literally right at the exit. That shit is just baaaad.

- You can only have 3 skills active. So if you pick the wrong skill toy need a checkpoint or reset to swap them out. Yhea everyone loves that

- The skills you get are pretty useless except for some levels if you want to do them perfectly. Fire is all you need half the time. With a vine or water bubble now and then just cuz the map needs you to use it.

Wildfire is a delightful stealth platformer that sees you controlling a loan villager that stumbles upon a fragment of a magical meteorite which grants you the power the control the elements. Filled with plenty of quick-thinking moments as well as making you stop and think strategically, it definitely strikes value for money boasting approximately 10-16 hours of gameplay for the first playthrough and longer if you're interested in completing all of the achievements, optional objectives or completing the levels within the speedrun timeframes.

Would definitely recommend as something slightly different to play solo but cannot speak about the co-op experience as I have not tested it at this point in time.

Very good at what it does, which is providing a very systems heavy immersive sim stealth lite platformer. There were a few tiny issues here and there, mostly in regards to giving too few elemental upgrade points, but on the whole a great experience. Especially with the primary stealth gameplay in most games with it shifted towards basic line of sight with distractions, this level of deep systems with complex AI behavior was very enjoyable.

I will be revisiting this in the future for sure, if for nothing else than to mess around with the AI some more.

It's alright. Setting everything on fire or freezing enemies never will stop being fun. Although the story could use some work as the VIP joke in the beginnig is the last good moment and after that you basically just play levels without much context.

Main issue is the save system. You can't manually save and autosaves get constantly overwritten, so you might as well restart each time if the autosave was in a bad spot. The checkpoints also just save if you walk past them so if you were running away from enemies that gets saved as well.

Wildfire presents a mess of mechanics that really don't work well together. Each level has several mutually exclusive objectives, forcing you to alternate between painfully slow stealth or too-fast-to-react running through masses of enemies. It's as if Wildfire tried to incorporate two entirely distinct goals and instead failed to make either of them fun. The optional objectives add an unnecessary tedium to the game, but once I began to ignore the objectives and just focus on finishing the levels, the levels lost their main source of challenge. It's a lose-lose situation: the objectives aren't good, but neither are the levels without some goal challenging you to play smartly. I like the concept of utilizing elements to manipulate the environment and enemies, but more often than not you find yourself out of reach of any elements at all and are stuck merely waiting for enemies to move. Maybe it would be better in coop, but the core single player game is not fun.

Very creative with the magic and the stealth. It feels like a Lemmings game from the SNES era with the villagers. I like their role in each level play. I also really like that you can do each objective individually, and that the challenges to do so only make you better and not have to be a hurdle to jump.

I can't wait to see how this game evolves.

A fun stealth romp where you are the Avatar. Only thing I didn't really like was that by the end of the game you still don't have a lot of skills unlocked, so it's almost better to concentrate on one of the elements and not spread out too much, but you can't know what you want to use until fairly far into the game. Decently long, 10 hours, and newgame+ will let you max everything out which might be fun to do. Otherwise I hope they can expand on this game or make a sequel, it's a lot of fun already and I'd like to play some more.

Feels like a mix between Abe's Odyssey and Mark of the Ninja.

Gameplay wise it's a fun time for sure, you can toy with your enemies with different elements ad environmental hazards.
The game is split into levels with plenty of objectives such as no kills, being undected, beating the level in a set time and other optional objectives.

A major plus is that the game gives you a lot of choice. If you want to mainly upgrade one element you can, if you don't want to be going after all the skill points and bonuses you don't have to and you can also play the game navigating whichever way you want in most of the levels.

A solid game both in visuals and audio, just a neat game overall really.
Thoroughly enjoyed it.

I really enjoyed the demo, so it just seemed obvious that the full game would be a great purchase, but the full game just really didn't feel like it implemented that much more interesting mechanics or gameplay variation than the demo, just a lot more content. It's still fun, but just not that much more than the demo once the initial excitement wears off. Play the demo, but I wouldn't recommend buying the whole game.

Actually, playing the demo without the intention of buying the game feels a bit disrespectful. Is that just me?

It's pretty darn good if you like screwing around with ways to get your enemies unalive. Just have fun and embrace the flame but most importantly be liberal sharing your inner warmth.

My friend accidentally left his Humble Bundle subscription on and got the latest humble bundle. He knew he wasn't going to play any of the games, as he already has upwards of a thousand games in his steam library, so he offered me to pick one to gift to me. I chose Wildfire. I figured it was going to be a game that I play once and then let rot in my Steam library until the end of time. Boy was I wrong. This game is a diamond in the rough. The art is masterful, the music is thematic and immersive, and the gameplay is amazing. It's basically if Celeste, one of my absolute favorite games of all time, was a stealth-based puzzle game. The controls and movement aren't quite as razor precise as games like Dead Cells or Celeste, but they are good enough to give you all the tools you need to pull off some USDA-Approved, Grade-A bad-assedry. It also showcases some simple, yet highly effective mechanics relating to stealth, cover systems, making noise, moving hostages, and of course the main focus of the game: the use of fire, water, and other elements to affect the terrain, allowing you to add a whole new level of strategy to how you approach a level. These mechanics seem simple at first, but they quickly evolve and merge together to create a highly technichal, yet intuitive set of mechanics that do not struggle to compliment each other. I've only played for 6 hours, but I already know that this game is going up there with the likes of Journey, Katana Zero, and Dead Cells in terms of quality. Not quite a masterpiece, but certainly worth a mere $15.

+ Artstyle: I like pixelated games and some of the animations are particularly beautiful.
+ Optional quests: Each level has an optional quest that challenges you to either only use a single type of elemental magic, or explore more of the level, rescue X amount of people, etc. This means that you are forced to take a slightly different approach for each level which is nice. Too bad the levels are so repetitive you'll start to ignore the quest halfway through the game.

- Random unlockables: You find gems around each level which give you some sort of power up. These are, however, random and some of the seem pointless.
- Not as fun as the trailer suggests: In the trailer you see the main character wreaking havoc by setting everything on fire and scaring everyone away. This doesn't happen in the game. You can scare enemies, but after a couple of seconds they'll just follow you until you hide somewhere.
- Lacking in tutorials: Whenever you unlock a new spell (different from the gem stuff) you get a mini level that aims to teach you how to use the spells. These are absolutely useless since they don't show you any real world example. I just ended up not using more than a couple of the spell upgrades because I didn't find a way of reliably using them to get around the level more easily (compared to just making a run for the exit).
- Level variety: 95% of the level layout and main quests are the same.
- Enemy variety: You have 4-5 enemy types and the last one is introduced pretty late in game, which makes it look like the devs ran out of ideas of how to make the endgame challenging enough. I wouldn't mind having so few enemy types if they were at least very different from one another.
- Startup time:I never thought I'd complain about this, but it takes ages to start this game. It takes a couple of minutes for the game to start, which is inexcusable.

Rating: 4/10

The game is pretty, but it's not much fun. The trailer makes it look like you can fool around and set everyone on fire or trap them in cages, but you rarely get to do this in game.

Fun stealth platformer with elemental magic. By the time you start New Game+ you have enough skills unlocked that you can really move and manipulate enemies and thats where the real excitement begins.
Highly reccomend, 9/10 for me. Only thing that held it back is that NG+ didnt add any more difficulty and the grind for some of the collectibles/upgrade points wore a bit thin. Still really good.

The game very poorly explains things, to the point where even in the first level I'd hit a state where I couldn't proceed, reload and do exactly the same thing, and suddenly it worked. I can't tell if it's bugs or bad mechanics but I'm confused either way.

The platforming also just sucks, you can't gauge jumps correctly because the platforms are too far apart for your jump but sometimes your character magically pulls themselves up a ledge they're not even really close to, making everything guesswork on what ledge you can teleport to and what you can't.

A gorgeous stealth game, I’d be more than happy to recommend to anyone interested in the genre.

Pros
-High quality pixel-art, great attention to detail
-Stealth gameplay is already enjoyable, spells give it a nice twist and are introduced via a tutorial every time you unlock a new one
-Various level types (pure stealth, escort, alternate character, etc.)
-Multiple paths to successfully complete each level
-Offers optional objectives and speedrun challenges from the get-go
-Well paced progression

Cons
-Input feels slightly off/delayed from time to time
-Comes from the genre itself, but the gameplay is slow, so if that doesn’t float your boat, you won’t enjoy this title
-Story is forgettable (so far)

Wildfire is a beautiful game, the attention to detail is astonishing. Though admittedly, story so far is pretty forgettable, the core gameplay is strong, levels are fun, playing with the elements adds a nice twist to basic stealth gameplay. If you’re in the market for a stealth game, I can whole-heartedly recommend taking a look at this title!

This game is currently in the Humble Bundle for March 2021. If you are interested in the game and it's before April 6th, 2021, consider picking up the game as part of the current monthly bundle.

After an playing an hour to review for the Humble Choice March 2021 Bundle:

So the demo has now become the full game, and I think I like this game even more than the demo. This is a rather interesting platformer where the main character is a witch and fighting against a bunch of crusaders. Every level seems to have a small amount of story and it’s well told.

The gameplay mostly seems to revolve around elements, so far I’ve only worked with fire, but lighting the foliage on fire is rather entertaining as is watching the knights run from it. The last level even had me playing as a bobcat and just slaughtering knights, so I hope to get that ability eventually.

There’s a lot of replayability as there are multiple goals for each level including a level-specific optional one, and each completed goal gives the player a special skill point.

Pick this up if you liked the demo in August of 2020 or pick it up if you like what you see. It’s an interesting platformer with what feels like a lot to offer. And that demo is available on steam as well.

If you enjoyed this review or want to know what I think of other games in the bundle, check out the full review on or subscribe to my youtube channel: https://youtu.be/8FX-MpYshT4

I pick up Humble Choice each month for my Twitch Streams. I pick one game for myself and give the rest as prizes for my followers. This month I picked Wildfire because I had recently gotten into 2D platformers and this game is loads of fun. Without giving away any spoilers, the game is a healthy challenge, but never feels harsh or unforgiving. You learn from each mistake you make and leads you to re-examine your approach to the challenge at hand. You think you are getting one kind of game, but you are picking up an entirely different one, and that entirely different one is a joy to discover and tons of fun to learn each new mechanic and explore your newfound powers.

It isn't bad, in fact it has some really fun ideas, but it feels like something is missing. I think they haven't done enough with what they had.

There are only 4 enemy types: soldiers, big soldiers, archers (with bows that shoot like on full auto lmao) and bobcats.

You can't actually hurt anyone directly. Sounds mean and I know this is a stealth game, but when you give me the power to control the elements I kinda wish for the ability to at least knock people properly out (who are trying to kill me). You can do that, but only in silly ways like freezing somebody twice in a row. Give me penalty for killing people or make it really risky to attack, but don't take the ability to attack away, that just takes so much from the concept of being a freaking witch.

Prisoners are stat points so failing to rescue one is a reason to replay a mission. You can imagine it's frustrating when said prisoner glitches into the ceiling on one of the longest levels. The final boss also glitched into a wall once. Not super bad bugs, but somewhat gamebreaking (if these happen to you that is, might as well be rare).

This game is also hell for completionists, as each mission has 5+ optional quests like >don't kill< or >be this fast< which would force you to replay each mission at least once and I honestly despise the concept of level ratings (they give you additional stat points). Either I finished a mission or I didn't, who tf cares if a guard saw me, they. forget. me within seconds anyway xD

Starts slow and builds slowly. The latter levels are great however it only left me wanting more of these larger more complex levels. Any game that has chaos due to fires the players start is good.

Each mission has a list of things to achieve such as being undetected, no kills, speedrun etc which is good fun to go through and collect.

Wears its Thief and Odyssey/Exodus influences on its sleeve. There should be more games like this despite other reviews whining about how it is too easy or the stealth is great. Ignore those fools and enjoy a 2d stealth game with magic.

It's a fun and short stealth game. You'll start out playing it like a normal stealth game, just hiding in the bushes and waiting for the guards to pass by, and end up creatively using elemental powers to navigate around them in unexpected ways. Getting caught can sometimes be effectively an instant game over, but your failures are often funny, and it's always a quick iteration cycle to try again thanks to great autosaving. The game is also short, so it doesn't have time to wear out its welcome.

Wildfire is an excellent stealth game.
The early game is great, the late game is also great.
There's a lot of options of customisation (difficulty, colourblind, falldamage, etc... )
The story is nice and the mechanices are great.

9/10 would place this game on my pantheon of great stealth game like Mark of The Ninja

Nice little 2D stealth platformer; your character will gain abilities related to the elements to help them traverse levels as the game progresses, and will earn upgrades for completing the optional objectives of each level. The story is nothing special, but it's enough. I recommend this one.

I've been playing Wildfire since beta and it still manages to surprised me with how fantastic it is.

The pace of the game is whatever you want it to be: Want to try to speedrun it? Go for it! Wanna take things slow & stealthy? Go for the ghost. There's no way to play it wrong.

It's rare to find a stealth-focused game that gives the player this much freedom, but Wildfire manages it well. The mission structure makes it a great game for jumping in for a quick mission when you feel like a fun bit of escapism, or to sit down and try to burn your way through a bunch of levels at a time.

Highly recommended

This game is a gem, and I highly recommend it to everyone, but with an important note: early game gameplay is kinda bad

Until you have more abilities, you often will just wait for guards to move to a certain position, slowly. And waiting is not gameplay if you ask me.

I stayed in a game for a while to get all steam cards, and suddenly it started to make sense, it became pretty fun. Then I started a new game+, and with all the abilities I already have, the second run was much greater than the first. Honestly, I think that leveling up is unecessary feature, that holds this game back.

Now I have all the achievements, and getting the most difficult of them was the most fun part (I don't consider myself a hardcore player, it's just the game being really good with it's harder content).

TL;DR: it really shines in the late game, if you are willing to get through the beginning.

Well, what can I say? Worth of it's price. Not so long, but it's got replay value, and it's probably good for mastering the game, but I remembered all the levels quickly. And about mastering that game (I mean making every objective in every level), when you unlock all the meteor shards in new game plus (even when you start it with every meteor shard collected), at next level there's still objective to collect it and you just can't have all levels at gold.

Ignore the listed play time; I played this offline for ~45 minutes. Had to idle this while I was online for 5 minutes just so I could write a review... (@steam fix plox)
The story is a little too linear for my tastes; not enough depth. It's also oddly dull for me personally - perhaps these types of games just aren't my thing, but I really could not get into it. There's also not much variety....
Perhaps I'm biased because my FPS was low? Game felt a little sluggish... You might have a better experience if you have a better specs.

I want to add my two cents to this game. Streamed the entire thing in some friends and strangers, and I had a pretty dang good time with it.

Wildfire is a semi-linear platformer with RPG elements - it reminds a lot of Avatar TLA/LoK simply because the elements are obeying my (inept) commands. It's got a lot of heart in its narrative, but also a black streak of humor a mile long. Nobody has lived until they terrified a guard into running off a cliff because they tossed a skeleton at them from the cover of darkness, let just say.

The narrative is light, but I do want to thank the dev(s) for understanding and using the singular 'they' for the protagonist. I generally avoid playing dudes in video games, so refusing to gender the MC was actually a big help to my enjoyment. Also, THANK YOU for never feeling the need to explain why most (or all?) the guards are big women. It was just the way it was, and a very nice change of pace simply because it's completely different than 99.99% of games I've played.

The only thing that held the game back for me was that its a bit buggy. Nothing like softlocking or save-breaking, but things get kinda weird if you reload a checkpoint a bunch of times in quick succession (that's more likely to happen than one may think - sometimes probing a situation for solutions is the path to capital F Fun). We're talking more like things like guards spawning partially into terrain, or something being on fire that shouldn't be. Nothing big, and sometimes it leads to funny moments. There's been a patch since I played through, so its likely more stable than it was.

For anyone hoping for a rich 30+ hour experience: this isn't the game for that. I probably beat this game in close to 10 hours, and came away satisfied. I don't believe in the price/playtime ratio, personally, but I think the price point is more than fair for how much I enjoyed it. It has some laughs, a couple frustrations, but a simple and fun experience that doesn't overstay its welcome.

for context, I am not remotely into stealth in games ordinarily. in fact, I wasn't sure if I'd have a good time with this when I picked it up. well, I have to say after give or take ~1 hour and 40 minutes of gameplay, that it's thoroughly won me over.

+ terrific pixel art and animations. lush environments that are a joy to explore.
+ nice music, sorta reminds me of Wargroove's OST in places.
+ toes a fine line in letting you feel powerful yet vulnerable; sure you can burn your enemies alive, but you probably won't be able to kill all of them so easily before they catch you and mow you down in kind.
+ the stealth feels fair and like it'd be a great time to try mastering the timing, enemy placement, etc..
+ surprisingly funny.
+ hand-crafted levels that are incredibly tightly designed and rewarding to figure out.
+ it's equally fun, though, to screw everything up and be forced to run through levels cackling, jumping across chasms--as you're laughing victoriously at the enemy soldiers left in your dust--before going le splat.
+ fun platforming and magical abilities.
+ nice writing, especially with the occasional poem scattered throughout.
+ has lots of optional secondary objectives (which completionists will dig) and generally robust gameplay changes you can choose in the options menu. so you can really tailor your experience however you want to. your play style is all up to you, what you focus on is up to you, whether you play by yourself or with a partner is up to ((assuming neither is at gunpoint) the both of) you, how the game functions is up to you. it's great that the game affords you so many freedoms with it on a fundamental level.

this game feels like a fully-formed package thus far, so hopefully it doesn't peter out in that regard. I'd definitely recommend it if it sounds up your alley.

The game is right on the cusp of being good.

Movement is just a little clunky, dropping from ledges just inconsistent enough to be annoying. Villager AI is bad enough to be frustrating, one will follow while the others can't seem to path around an ice block or down a drop into grass. Unlocking abilities and meteorite shards have enough delay on them before you can do anything is enough to become agitating- especially because picking up a shard doesn't autosave for some reason.

None of these things independently are real deal-breakers, but adding them all up equals a game I can't really recommend.

Wildfire is an immersive-sim stealth game that is played on a 2D plane. It is no less deep for it, and if you've ever played Mark of the Ninja, you have some awareness of how this perspective allows for certain gameplay experiences that are unique to it.

As a Witch/Sorcerer of a sort who can Embrace the elements, calling an orb of them to your palm for application to various tasks, you're hunted by people who would very much appreciate it if you and your heathen existence would cease at your earliest possible convenience.

To get past these enemies, you will have to be truly cunning. Aye, this is a game for people who love to think and be clever, because there is no traditional method at your disposal to kill or neutralize these foes. There are ways to inflict harm upon them, but each of these is done through understanding of the magic dancing through your fingertips, and perceptive use of your surroundings.

One thing you'll notice from the get-go is that Wildfire is brilliant at tutorialization. I'm a guide-maker for various games on YouTube, most notably the Assassin's Creed series, but for other stealth-action games as well. At no point did I ever feel the need to 'fill the gaps' in Wildfire's internal documentation because it teaches itself to the player so wonderfully. This is fantastic, because Wildfire is not an easy game. Oh sure, it starts off simple, and escalates from there, but there were definitely moments in which, as a veteran of the genre, I got smacked around and annihilated with extreme prejudice.

Some of it comes from the challenging level-layouts, which are all masterfully put-together, and some of it comes from... Um. Physics. Yeah. Wildfire is as much Far Cry 2 as it is The Last Airbender. Sometimes, it just won't be your day. You'll do one simple thing on this side of the level, and suddenly find yourself inside a Rube Goldberg machine you never asked to be part of, where you are the marble and the end is your fiery demise.

But you learn. You learn, and you grow, and you understand, and at the end of THAT journey is a kind of satisfaction that only a game as sure of itself as Wildfire can grant a player. It can be frustrating at times. But if you have the patience for any of what I've just described, and you're willing to try, and try, and try, definitely check this game out. I think you'll enjoy it.

Backed this on Kickstarter. It should be fun; stealth with elemental control, but it's controls/targeting/AI are far from smooth which detracts from the flow of the game. Level design is also rather linear, and doesn't often seem to be many options for completing.

Wildfire is one of those games that doesn't have any respect for your time.

Now, the good parts of the game: sound, graphics and concept are all on point, they make the game feel good in the early levels when it's well-designed.

The bad parts...

Firstly, you've got some pseudo-RPG mechanics that are incredibly unsatisfying. Do you enjoy perfecting several missions so you can get an 0.1% range boost on your ability to throw things?! Like, instead of giving me 25 goddamn ranks of that, give me a couple of ranks of a meaningful effect. Not to mention how many abilities I essentially never used.

Secondly, it's a game with limited resources(except for water, that's the only one you have an infinite supply of if any is around), janky targeting(sometimes even the targeting predicters will lie or there's only a single pixel that actually works), wonky enemy behavior(sometimes they turn around and 360 noscope you when they spot you, other times they jump backwards, startled, yeeting themselves off a cliff. Once you disrupt an enemy's patrol pattern they often get stuck in the new area they end up in, sometimes painting you into a corner. I've also yet to figure out what consistently wakes and does not wake the sleeping patrol cats) and a bunch of other ways in which a mission can get... usually not incompleteable, but suddenly a lot more annoying to complete.

And yet the game punishes you for reloading back to a checkpoint, rather than resetting the mission entirely.

It's not much of an issue in the early game, but in the late game some of the missions can take a good while to finish. So withholding 10% of an 0.1% range increase behind my not using one of the features in the game. One of the features the developers chose to have in the game. Feels like dickhead design.

Aside from that there are also a couple of missions that are just poorly designed, often in the sense that they use mechanics that are encountered nowhere else without giving you any pointers how they work. Looking at you, chalice mission, with no indicator that lighting the chalices on fire would change anything.

Like... I feel like 90% of my annoyance with the game would disappear if your magic resources respawned, because I really do not feel like redoing ten minutes of gameplay just because the game decided to delete the object I was holding or I missed a pixel-perfect throw despite the throw-predictor saying it was on point. Or one of my escorts decided to yeet himself into a pit or needed leading back and forth several times until he realized he could, in fact, climb up a knee-high ledge.

The remainder would be making the AI(both escort and enemy) more consistent in its behavior and reactions, or if there's a consistency to some of these things I missed in five hours of play, signpost them more clearly.

The game also suffers a bit from having mechanics that show up in two or three levels and then never again as anything important or relevant.

Long story short, save your money, don't get Wildfire unless it's on a really good sale, but at the same time keep an eye out for the devs' next project, because if they actually try, I'm convinced they can make something much better.

????Introduction

Wildfire is a 2D stealth game that allows you to embrace elements to your advantage, as a concept the game had a lot of potential. However, I didn’t feel like Wildfire brought anything new to the table, it’s riddled with a handful of bugs, lacks creative level design and enemy variety. Even though the elements were fun to use, it doesn’t make up for the shortcomings that this game has.

✔️Pros

• Each element has its own unique abilities to upgrade
• Fun stealth mechanics by utilising elements, but doesn’t add anything new to the genre
• Maps are designed to give you more freedom once you’ve unlocked all the elements
• Can equip meteor shards that modify your character and elements in a number of ways

❌Cons

• More boring linear levels rather than interesting ones
• Enemy variety is severely lacking
• Introduces you to play as a different character, but then never uses them again afterward
• Final boss is boring and extremely easy
• To obtain the better elemental abilities you’ll need to play the game at least twice
• New game+ is just the same game but with upgrade points carried over, not sure if there was an increase in difficulty or something but it didn’t feel like it.

❓Bugs

• Screenshots can’t be taken
• The game crashed once during my playthrough
• When reverting back to an autosave you might find things catching on fire when it shouldn’t have, guards might stop patroling, grass that you’ve moved won’t be there anymore even though it should be etc.
• A guard was able to detect me through a wall
• There’s a specific part in the game where you can clip into the wall
• If your hanging from a vine and want to go to the directly next to it, the game won’t let you. Instead, you’ll just jump past it.

????Gameplay

Stealth

Like any stealth game Wildfire requires you to plan out each move carefully, making careless moves like falling from a great height or running will likely result in getting detected if a guard is nearby. Thankfully, there are a number of ways to distract the guards to get past them, hiding in the grass then whistling to get their attention is the simplest way. However, you’re given elemental powers as you progress through the game (Fire, water and earth) which can be used in a variety of ways.

Setting grass on fire near a guard or throwing fire at a guard will make them panic giving you the opportunity to run past them undetected. Throwing water creates a sound that distracts nearby guards and earth can be used to make new cover and to reach higher areas. To use these elements you need to embrace them from the source, for example, you can embrace earth by taking a grass patch and then throw it further to use as cover.

Each element has its own set of skills that you can unlock and upgrade by throwing the corresponding element into the statues offering bowl during levels. These upgrades are fun to mess around with but require you to spend a few points on the previous abilities before unlocking the next one. If your anything like me then you’ll probably try to get a balance of all the different elements, however, you can only acquire around 30 element points by the end of the game. So to get the last (and best) ability for a specific element you have to spend the majority on that one element. These better abilities definitely aren’t necessary, but it would’ve been nice to be able to test most of them out before completing the game.

Level Design

Most levels are rather linear without much choice on how to approach them, there aren’t many options or paths to choose from as I’d hoped. But going back to earlier levels with all elements does open up the levels more, now you can easily get to a higher platform by embracing earth and spawning a vine to climb up to. It also allows you to complete objectives on these levels a lot easier than before.

You’re encouraged to explore each level as much as possible despite some of them feeling linear. You can find and equip meteor shards that modify your elements and abilities in some way, for example if an enemy sees you doing a fire jump they will panic, you can throw the water element at an enemy’s face and they will be stunned, explosions have a larger radius etc. There is a lot to find and mess around with to see which work best with your setup.

Each level has a set of objectives that aren’t mandatory to complete the level, however completing them will grant you spirit points which allow you to upgrade throwing distance, embrace distance and max health. These objectives are as follows: a speedrun, complete the level without being detected, without killing anyone, without reloading a save and a unique objective depending on what level you’re on. These were a nice addition to the game and gave you a reason to return to earlier levels once you’d obtained all the elements. The speedrun challenge in particular seemed a bit odd for a stealth game, completely throwing away the concept of being slow and patient to instead trying to complete it as fast as possible.

Enemies that you’ll encounter aren’t varied whatsoever, you’ll technically only come across two different enemy types (the third being just a buffed up guard who isn’t afraid of fire). The most common are the usual guards who either have a sword or a bow, and the other are bobcats who can smell your scent. I felt like there needed to be more types of enemies that change the gameplay to make it more interesting. It always felt lacking and although this didn’t hinder my enjoyment with the game I was always wondering when new enemies would be introduced.

The final boss of the game is a major disappointment, to the point where she just felt like a beefed-up guard with elemental powers. I felt like there was a lot of potential for the final boss to by really intense and fun but it turned out to be an extremely simple, easy and boring boss battle that didn’t give me any sort of satisfaction.

One weird aspect of this game that might’ve been interesting was the introduction of your dog. In a single level, you’ll be able to play as him as the game gives you a tutorial on how to control him. However, after this you’ll never play as him again… I’m not sure if this was just forgotten about or this was intentional but it seemed odd how they would introduce a new character to play as and then never use him again.

????Music & Sound

The soundtrack was simple, it didn’t necessarily give off a sense of intensity whilst sneaking around guards but it did help set the atmosphere for each level. When you got caught by a guard however the music would change until they couldn’t find you which is nice to have in a game like this.

????Graphics

The visuals capture the essence of each area extremely well, with the detailed backgrounds and distinctively different areas that you’ll explore. However, I felt like some more work could’ve been put into lighting and making areas underground darker to set the atmosphere of a stealth game more.

????Closing Thoughts

Despite having fun with Wildfire it has a lot of shortcomings that make it hard to recommend. Along with a bunch of bugs that were slightly annoying, I didn’t feel like Wildfire brought anything new to the table. With a lack of enemy variety that makes the gameplay feel repetitive quickly, a terrible final boss and linear levels unless your dying for a new stealth game to play I wouldn’t recommend getting this.

A 2D stealth immersive sim that lives up to the traditionally 3D genre with amazing systems that combine in surprising and delightful ways. Level design is clever and provides a breadth of encounters, while the mechanics make them deep enough that replaying levels are required to fully experiencing every possibility encounters have to offer. I particularly enjoyed the unique challenges each level has, which have prompted me to explore the mechanics in ways I might not have otherwise and expose new tricks I can use in future encounters.

Great game. Not very long, however, it provided one of the best Co-op experiences I've had in a long time. Highly recommend playing with or without a friend.

Kickstarter backer here, and I have really enjoyed this game so far, though the first half an hour was plagued by lag and low frame rate, which was very annoying. Luckily, the discussion post here (https://steamcommunity.com/app/431940/discussions/0/) from the devs solved my problem.
The pixel art is beautiful, I most enjoy watching the billowing clouds of smoke from the various fires I start! Coupled with some magic, challenging puzzles and platforming, and this is a game right up my alley.

Absolutely recommend, though please check out the dev's post above if you are struggling with lag. You would definitely regret not playing it!

Positive: Steath fun in improvising when chaos and also in doing perfectly your plan. Beautiful art. Interesting level design. Cool and creative skills. Very friendly and intuitive controls (I co-oped with my non-gamer sister).
Negative: Slowed down at times, in the larger levels or when a lot of things were happening on the screen (could be my PC)

Wildfire stays true to its name. As the player, you’re both figuratively and literally playing with fire. While your elemental abilities are a joy to use, the game is careful not to let you feel all powerful. Your abilities can open up new opportunities for evasion, traversal as well as defeating your enemies, but they can also just as easily cause strife for yourself.

While the narrative hook left a lot to be desired, the mechanical depth that Wildfire brings is unlike anything I’ve seen in recent memory. Its optional objectives provide various ways to both enhance the challenge of the game, as well as adding new twists on older levels to further replayability for those dedicated players looking to master the art of elemental stealth.

A very polished stealth-based platformer where you play as a master of elements.
You can freeze your foes, burn down villages, levitate in air bubbles and much much more.
Level design is on point, puzzles are generally not difficult, and outsmarting your enemies feels satisfying.
The visuals and soundtrack are great, fire effects are beautiful and it is so pleasing to watch everything burn.

Overall a great game, definitely worth the price.

(Side note: I played this game before steam release due to kickstarter, so pay no attention to my playtime.)

Seems pretty fun so far. Game is locked at 60 fps though which isn't great for those that have 60+ hz monitors. Looking forward to trying the co-op but please unlock the framerate if possible.

Great game with gameplay reminiscent of Oddworld and Mask of the Ninja, combined in the the worlds of The Last Airbender and Golden Sun. It's evident much love and care has gone in to this, from all the different combinations of stealth and elemental wielding in gameplay, to world building and art/sound design. Replayability is also well thought out, with secret areas, challenges, and cooperative play meaning you'll definately get your moneys worth. Very stable also, with zero crashes. Played more previously due to being a kickstarter, so actual hours are more than what's displayed here.

Playing alone or with a friend, I can highly recommend this game!
