Über das Spiel

Way of the Samurai 3 setzt die Tradition der bei Fans beliebten Open-World-Reihe konsequent fort.

uneingeschränkt empfehlen, sone Tastatur eitert doch sehr schlecht

Ganz einfach Leute, so welche Spiele, schreiben geschichte. Way of the Samurai 3 hat sehr viele Enden.

When I first fired this up I crashed to desktop after trying to start a new game repeatedly. I have no idea how or why, but after installing and playing WotS4 instead for about 30 minutes I came back to give this one more chance and it worked. My favorite is still the original WotS, but 3 is a fantastic one in the series. Plays fine on my X Box controller.

Fuck this port!
The publishers don't give a damn about their customers, they don't answer the bug thread and the worst thing is that they don't give a damn. Where is the goddamn Plus version? Where are the bug fixes? I lost my 30 hours savefile because of a bug that no one will ever fix. This game is GREAT, don't misunderstand me, but the port is AWFUL. and so are the publishers who don't give a single fuck about the customers.
DON'T BUY THIS GAME IF YOU ARE ON STEAM! They won't fix anything for you, nor they will even answer any of your concerns.

The Way of Samurai series has always been known for it's serious yet wacky undertone, and this installment is no different. If you enjoyed Way of Samurai 1 (PS2/PSP) or maybe Way of Samurai 4, then this game is a no brainer. It's still a solid title despite its age.

This game still holds up relatively well for its age, the facial features and some graphics are obviously outdated by now, but the mechanics are really well made and you will be surprised by the amount of choices you can actually have in this game. Though admit ably despite the devs saying that the game has 29 endings or so, the ones that actually worth getting are only 8-ish, the rest are either just a variant of these 8 or ones where you managed to fuck up everything. Some of the endings require you to do very specific missions and choices, so reading a decade old gamefaq guide is a must. Each playthrough mostly gonna last you 40 minutes and maybe an hour or two for the more tedious and grindy ones.

The only bad things I can say about this game is the fact that the publisher doesn't even bother releasing the plus edition for western audience. Though the game it self is good, this still feels like a cheaply done port from the PS3 version with an addition of upscaled resolution, that's it. No extra content, nothing. Which I feel like a huge misopportunity.

Gomenasai, my name is Ken-Sama.

I'm a 27 year old American Otaku (Anime fan for you gaijins). I draw Anime and Manga on my tablet, and spend my days perfecting my art and playing superior Japanese games. (Drag-On Dragoon, Ryū ga Gotoku, Kiseki series)

I train with my Katana every day, this superior weapon can cut clean through steel because it is folded over a thousand times, and is vastly superior to any other weapon on earth. I earned my sword license two years ago, and I have been getting better every day.

I speak Japanese fluently, both Kanji and the Osaka dialect, and I write fluently as well. I know everything about Japanese history and their bushido code, which I follow 100%

When I get my Japanese visa, I am moving to Tokyo to attend a prestigious High School to learn more about their magnificent culture. I hope I can become an animator for Studio Ghibli or a game designer!

I own several kimonos, which I wear around town. I want to get used to wearing them before I move to Japan, so I can fit in easier. I bow to my elders and seniors and speak Japanese as often as I can, but rarely does anyone manage to respond.

Wish me luck in Japan!

My most beloved franchise, it's a time machine to feudal Japan, I role play as Miyamoto Musashi, it's soo satisfying.

Funny, emotional, multiple endings a ton of replayability and customization, 10/10, hopefully we someday get the 5th release.

You're playing a hostile, absurd game that does almost nothing to explain itself.
this is a bad game

You respond by disrespecting every NPC and abusing the game's systems for fun and profit.
this is a fun bad game

The game rewards you for this behavior and you discover that your abuses are built-in mechanics.
this is a good game

You're 60 hours in and just discovered you can free-run during combat.
this is the BEST bad game

Game isn't the best in the series but has some fun ideas and it feels great when you discover a new path in the story. It has a lot of flaws and is hard to get running on Windows 10, I had to run compatibility mode for Windows 7 and disable fullscreen optimizations just to get it to work and even then I had to change the resolution through the Configuration file because trying to do it in game crashed every time. Also you have to limit the frame rate to 30 because animation speeds will double if you push it up to 60 in certain instances making it extra clunky and breaks the mini games. The game randomly crashes some times but if you save a lot you won't lose much time. All in all if you can get around all the problems it has a lot of charm but I would recommend the other games over this one still.

Buyer Beware! You were warned!
A quick pros and cons list will be at the bottom for people who do not want to read alot.
The game is Fun but it is not a completed game and it is true that this is a bad port. I originally played the game on ps3 and loved it so much I came to the internet for help with finding different endings and different swords among other things, while in my search I realized that even the ps3 port of this game is not a full game. The original Japanese version of this game has more partners, more swords, more cut scenes and more dialog. Now do not get me wrong I love the game and I made sure to get every achievement but the buyer needs to know that this is not the full version of the game. If it were identical to the version that ps3 had released It would not be to bad but the only difference between this version and the ps3 version is that on Ps3 you can at least switch the languages to Japanese with english subtitles or just english, it was bad enough that you could not buy the full game in america but now on this version you cannot even switch the game to its native language and trust me the dub/english is awful. You find yourself ready for the cut scenes to finish quickly or just skip them if you have already saw them because the english dub really is that bad.. The soundtrack for the game has less then a handful of songs that play and if you have played the game for more then 10 hours you will realize you have heard everything the soundtrack has to offer. If you have played the game before and know what to do or where to go then you know you can actually hear every song the game has to offer in less then 3 hours.

Pros:
1. The game is fun
2. Alot of different endings
3. You can choose how ever you want to play, example good or evil.
4. You can make your own weapons and customize them.
5. Character customization.
6. more then 100 different swords in the game.

Cons:
1. Game is not a finished product -explained in story above-
2. You need a Controller to enjoy the game - it is not that you cannot play the game without a controller but playing the game with keyboard and mouse has been talked about in many other peoples reviews, it just does not work properly.
3. sound track is extremely limited.
4. You are forced into english dub and cannot switch.

The third installment of the series set in warring period of feudal Japan. Like its predecessors, the game isn't particularly story rich. The plot revolves around player choices that influence future sequence of events. Unlocking different scenarios, collecting different swords and mastering the techniques are the series' best selling point. The sword stance and moveset depends on what kind of sword is equipped. Players can also learn ninjutsu sword techniques by reading scrolls. Besides looting weapons from slain enemies, players have the option to forge them at a blacksmith and upgrade their stats even further. Tons of replay value overall and a must play for samurai enthusiasts.

Is definitely a unique game, personally, as a fan of anything samurai related, if you like the samurai period in Japan history and like swordplay, this is a worthy purchase. It's a different kind of game, to be sure, and the combat can be repetitive and monotonous if you want it to, but it does have the potential to be complex if you work at it.
Take the role of a samurai and choose your own path, blazing a trail of honour, loyalty and respect or one of villainy, corruption and greed...
The butterfly effect, weapon customisation, good gameplay, just buy it now!

i still haven't learned all the sword styles or saved up enough to have the smithy improve my blade, but i'm still having a blast!
having played all of the wots games, i'd say number 3 and 4 are really the standouts of the series.

wots3 has all the jankiness and obscure, but fun gameplay mechanics we've come to expect, but also boasts a more streamlined combat system than its ps2 or psp predecessors.
it's definitely not as smooth or good-lookin as wots4, but it's arguably the game that best represents the series, as it throws all of the samurai-era tropes together for a satisfying romp with a surprising amount of laughs. there's so many little things in the game that i like - not just the social stuff like if you apologise too much, people start getting embarrassed around you, or if you're seen looting a corpse people express their disgust. it's the secret or random encounters between npcs, the mystery relics you stumble upon and the unexpected, often comical run-ins between npc's that make the game worth playing again and again.

TL;DR - would be a famous vegetarian sushi chef named 'Basho' again.. tho maybe next time i'll avoid annoying those loan sharks..

gameplay - 4/5
audio - 3/5
gfx - 2/5

A nice mix of serious and silly. You very much feel like a samurai with complete freedom as to how honorable, dishonorable, or passive you'd like to be. However, it does throw you right into things without much explanation. There are also moments where in order to unlock a particular secret/item/achievement you have to attempt some pretty ridiculous antics that are, sometimes, just straight up unfair.

Still, the theme is well set. It is and works as advertised, and I have certainly had a great time playing it.

I got it for 5 USD on sale.

One of the stories I had during the pay through I became a Bandit Overlord and
many Samurai came to take me down as I fought through the waves of animies
my friends fell around me my grunts offered to hold off the Samurai so I could escape
several times but I did not run. In the end I was captured and executed. - Sad.

One of the stories - I killed everyone. EVERYONE! so technically there was no story and no end just empty world.

Well,it's a good combination of action and rpg. This game has a detailed combat engine which has lots of stances, sandbox feature that even allows you to cut down main characters and lots of humor elements within. It takes about 4 hours to complete game for the first time but dont worry there is 21 endings in total.Every word you say, every step you walk, everyone you kill affects your games result. There is not really a mechanic to teach you what is what except a npc which will be in the Takatane village. So your first 2 hours in game is really really important. In this time duration you will learn the mechanics and get used to world of WotS3.The 2 hours of the first game completion will be grinding and learning to fight properly.Every time you end the game you will get stronger because you will be able to start a new game with items, money and the weapons from your last save!So you will start to end game even faster.Leave the grinding behind and only push after the main course.
Well anyway.Basicly this game is not simple as it looks in screenshots. If you just give a f**k about samurais or the feudal Japan, totally worth play it.

Samurai Groundhog day. You die or finish the days until you find the true ending.

Not as big as WOTS4 but just as hilarious.

Some modding tips in the .ini file
FPS can be 35 and not break the game, any higher the physics will screw up.
LockWindowFrameRate=35.000000
EnableDOF 1=on, 0=off
ShadowDetail 0=off, 1=normal, 2=hi-detail

don't bother with the FOV it gets weird.

If you get the load game crashing bug you have to install physx even on AMD

Odd blend of humor, violence, and frustration that works well. Combat can be somewhat frustrating but not nearly as annoying as trying to find people for missions. I always have fun playing this game. Buy it when it's on sale, and use a controller. It's hard to run out of things to do. If you get bored you can always kill 100 farmers and feel like a god of death.

Thought it was about time to make a review for this, as I played this and Way of the Samurai 4 for just a wee bit. Comparing this game to 4, what I can say is that 3 has a lot more character to it. Each NPC is unique and has their own unique dialogue. The combat is also a lot easier to understand, albeit the movelist is smaller. Additionally each region is much more interesting than the ones in 4. While 4 still has some better submissions and character writing but I believe 3 is the better way of the samurai game.
tl;dr it's good

This game has a surprising amount of depth. At first it seems like there's nothing to do, but just you wait until you've done a few jobs. Ever since I've gotten into this game, it's become one of my favorites. The combat is fun and diverse, the story is simple but gives rise to great characters, and the atmosphere of Sengoku era Japan is palpable. I would highly recommend this game to anybody who likes RPGs, Samurai fiction, and especially to those who want a replay-able game

The best way to describe this game is Groundhog Day: Samurai Edition. You will go through the game multiple times, unlock over 20 endings, have no idea how to get the one true ending, and be left to your own devices. This game does very little of holding your hand, where the only thing that acts as a guide appears after the prologue, and a fighting tutorial that is is hidden away in the corner of the map. Even if you use an online guide like me, you will still be confused as to what to do, and will have to try things that you did not do on your previous runs.

Despite being developed by a Japanese game studio, Way of the Samurai 3 has a Eurojank feel to it: it is very ambitious and allows you to do many things for its time, has a complex fighting system with many moves, but also has plenty of confusing design choices and subpar graphics. This is not a game that is for everyone, and will appeal to only a specific audience.

Way of the Samurai has become one of my favorite series over the past couple of years, and this installment may be my favorite one. Originaly I played this on the xbox 360, and decided I would revisit it on the pc port. Honestly over the forty somthing hours I played before writing this review it only crashed on me a few times, all of which were when I alt tabbed out of the game. That said, I don't alt tab out any more and it runs fine.

The Run down...
-good ol fashion samurai fun
-good mix of sandbox rpg and fighting game mechanics
-lots of weapons to collect, parts to find, missions to do and moves to learn
-a plethora of unlockables
-more endings then a bioware game
-stable (for me, apparantly results may vary)
-can turn random girls komonos into skirts (good I guess??)

I'm Italian but I really want to share that with you all so forgive me if my english sounds pretty bad:

I had it on console and it was one of the best game I ever bought, It's really a gem of a game.

Just has a disclosure there is only one con imho so here you go:

CON:

- The first time you play it it's kinda hard to get the hang of it and you wont know what to do...

PRO:

- ...But trust me it's so so worth it to endure at the beginning that you wont regret it

- Freeroaming samurai game with multiple choices and ending (20 Endings so a lot of replayability value) the game just makes you hit that play button once again just to know all the different outcomes and cutscenes

- A lot of customization for your weapon and your character (you can be a perfect samurai but also a samurai with a tengu mask on his di**)

- Really nice OST that just sets you in the mood for some samurai action

I remember booting this game up 6 or so odd years ago on the 360. Played through it at least 7 or 8 times, then I saw the reviews. Specifically, IGN's. Let me tell you, if you haven't seen the reviews, don't look. This game is the greatest example of graphics < gameplay to date. It suffered in reviews just because it looked a few years behind, when the gameplay is solid and fun, character customization is great (not to mention your customized character actually shows up in cutscenes! <3), and there's more than 15 endings! If you love quick slice and dice action adventure games, this is for you. I bought it right when I saw it for $15, but if you're not sure, maybe wait for it to go on sale for a lower price. Personally, I love it, and I would've paid $20 to see one of my favorite series run at a better fidelity then it could on a 7th gen console.

Oh and also, the PC port is solid so far. Keep in mind though, that's what it is. A port. not an HD remaster or anything like that. They didn't even give you the almost 10 year old DLC, which is kind of annoying, but whatever.

EDIT : Someone asked on my steam profile if the game is locked at 30FPS, and yes, it is unfortunately. Someone might find a workaround at some point, but from what I hear the animations are tied to the frame rate somehow.
