+ Viele Materialien, Komponenten, Waffen, Module, etc.
+ Spiel hat einen angenehmen Schwierigkeitsgrad
+ Grafik ist gut
+ Relativ wenige Buggs (kein Spielentscheidender Bug bislang aufgetreten)

- Multiplayer really makes the game what it is. If you have friends you can play with, it's a lot of fun customising the drill.
- The sounds, especially when shooting the various guns is fantastic.
- Gathering the resources was pretty quick which I like in these game where you craft,
- The mechanic of the volcano constantly erupting, and having to dig underground to escape is an interesting game feature. It sets a limit to how long you have to gather resources and puts excitement to the overall game play.
Cons:
- This game is janky as hell. You get stuck on weird corners and ledges. Shooting with the gun and using the reticle felt like it wasn't hitting or damaging the enemy. That happened a couple of months ago when I played the game so I am hoping it was fixed.
- The volcano constantly erupting while neat, got tiring real quick. After a while I just like going up there to explore and artificially forcing the player to stop got on my nerves after a while.
- I lost my items when I didn't make a bed, and quit the game. That was annoying and I don't know if they fixed that in a patch as it's been a while since I last played.
- Fighting robots isn't satisfying. Just something about the combat feels bland.
- It feels as if the drill gets damaged way too easily and you're stuck to constantly repairing it which is annoying.
Overall:
I don't think this game is really for me. I found it a bit bland and if I wasn't playing this with other people, I'd have uninstalled it right away and asked for refund.

+ Steam punk theme everything, I love steam punks theme... So much advanced technology with so basic copper gears and levers everything :D
+ You got to make an efficient drill monster and manage your energy and resources while producing all the gear you need to kill all those robots all over the place.
+ Weapons have different bullet velocity, really well done. Straight fast, lobe slow, electric beams and so on
+ Defensive turrets effective only vs certain types of weapons, so you need to mix and match what your opponents can throw at you.
+ (finally and the biggest +) No game crash or strange bugs during my entire gameplay experiment... *tip hats* its really REALLY! incredible from games nowaday, for an independent studio who are their own publisher.. WOW, you guys put to shame any large box who pretend to be programmers... will definitely look for other or later products from their list.
- Dont try to jump with your character, he CANT do it!! :P its feels like your character weight 400 pounds... but he can run like a marathon dude when he still has stamina (thats really a tiny minus mark here, would be easy to fix)
- Graphics are a bit low resolution but heh, I guess, its a work in progress, its good enough for now I think but definitely expect to see an improvement there (no big deal there either)
Im ready for the real tryout now on regular difficulty see if I can do it again :D

Volcanoids gives just enough content to be worth it's price. As an early access, I can say that yes they are good about updating and improving though I believe there was a long time when not enough content was a big problem. At this point it's at a good balance of content vs price.
Pros:
This game really is great about the Steam Punk feel. Everything copper'd out and mechanical.
Progression is fun and challenging.
The drill ship is pretty epic and can become HUGE.
There's a decent mod workshop that has fun additions.
The devs are progressively improving.
Map is pretty big and multilevel.
Cons:
The mechanics are a bit different and hard to catch on to with crafting and technology.
Once you do start progressing, progression is very quick (too quick) from 0 to hero.
The game is a bit short without extra content or side missions to enjoy.
Limited scenery. A lot is just duplicates made harder by more enemies.
Building is restricted to just your ship, no where else.
Combat is pretty clunky. I can't put my finger on it directly, but this definitely isn't a fast paced smooth FPS.

Pros :
- Great gameplay loop, easy to first understand, hard to master !
- Work your way towards higher tier equipment trough different biomes, but you can go back at anytime if you need a rest
- Automation! Nothing is as satisfying as fully automatic crafting
- Pretty deep drillship customisation
- Surprisingly solid combat for the genre!
- Interesting universe
- Optional quest system, if you feel like you could use guidance, or just go in blind!
- Game systems and quests are really well explained despite how complex they are
- Workshop/Mod support
Cons :
- Can be complicated to get into and understanding the principles
- A wrong move at the wrong time can cost you everything
> Your drillship can get destroyed extremely fast if you're careless.
- Third person animations are a bit janky (think a rework is planned though)
- No player customisation atm (but planned feature)
A truly unique game that works really well.
Not even done and it's already great at what it does.
If it sounds good to you and you are willing to learn the ropes, you won't regret it!

There are a few design choices that don't seem to make a whole lot of sense that I overlooked due to this being out as early access:
- Stamina isn't used for anything (except sprinting), and there's an absurd amount of it. There are no upgrades that give you more stamina. It does run out eventually, but overall it feels like it was added without much thought put into why it exists, and sprint could easily just be replaced with an infinite sprint without breaking game balance in any way.
- At times it felt like the game is punishing you for playing it, as there is nothing you can build to the drillship to adequately defend it from AI attack waves. There didn't seem to be any way to automate repairs, so you end up having to run around your ship repairing things if you don't want anything to break, given how little health all the modules (even later tier ones) have. In other words, it feels like the game is punishing you for even thinking about leaving the ship, unattended, but camping it with repairs is not what I'd imagine to be the intended experience here. We actually ended up skipping the last ship length expansion because it seemed unmanageable, running around three compartments already took long enough.
- Making it so you need lower tier resources to craft higher tier modules (at least when advancing tiers the first time) seems like a gimmick that forces you to spend a lot of time traveling around different tier zones, feels like I'm playing Albion online again (which had it by design). Making lower tier resources available via some means in higher tier areas, or shortcuts between zones (T3 to T1 directly without passing T2 for example) would make this better.
The ship defense in particular seems like an area that could be made a lot more engaging, as it was, we ended up using remote control to send it underground when we left the ship to move around as the constant AI sieges against it would slowly destroy it regardless of what defenses were set up. So we ended up avoiding the ship defense fights almost entirely near the end game as it just made no sense.
All in all, not great, not terrible, definitely a lot better than some other early access titles of the genre.

- If you play survivals, you'll enjoy the first few hours of exploring, crafting and combat.
- It's a nice change to fight robots and a volcano -- instead of the usual zombie horde.
- I'm enjoying the beginning stages, having one ongoing multiplayer game with a friend, and another solo.
But: there does seem to be a lack of content.
What its missing:
- I want to customize my hotbar. If you're holding 2 items that are assigned to button 4, you can only use one of them.
- Multiplayer is limited. There is only one quest line. You're forced to stick with your friend and progress together. I want more than one drillship in multiplayer mode. Can you imagine if a game like Minecraft forced people to stay together at all times? It wouldn't work. This game could be much more enjoyable if we could build our own drills and explore separately.
- Balancing single player vs multiplayer. There seems to be the same number of foes in both game modes; I would have expected more robots in multiplayer and less in single player.
My advice:
- Buy this when it's on discount, and enjoy it for a few hours.

Overall enjoyed the experience. In terms things to add, I'd like to see variants of the premise - I know it would go against the title but variants where you are trying to survive and thrive amidst other disasters could be quite interesting, switch out the volcano for heavy electrical windstorms, or even tidal waves. The core gameplay formula is quite adaptable in that regard.

I want to give this game a thumbs up and hopefully will change my recommendation in future as it progresses out of Early Access.
Idea and theme is really original and inventive but there is next to nothing to do right now except upgrade your Drill(base)/Equipment while make everything else you've done so far obsolete. There is basically no story or drive for exploration besides resource gathering for your next drill upgrades and fighting an endless spawning of boring and over powered (ro)bots.
Game is NOT an open-world/survival at all, at least not in the stage it is in. (I hope it becomes one, it would be quite unique to the genre if it did)
Developers seem to be taking a lot of input on board as far as feedback from early access buyers/discussion board which can be a double edged sword from my observation in other games with constant development.
It would be nice to see the game they have in their own vision come to fruition rather than mutate it into something to please the brain-dead masses and eventually introduce over-complicated crafting systems and the ever-demanded and usually unnecessary mount...

Some things and or suggestions with some constructive criticism.
- More enemy variety (shooting same thing with more health and does more damage gets stale)
- Possibly larger map (heard that was being worked on)
- More survival elements, for a survival game you only really have to manage your health and armor. It doesn't feel like a survival game. (give another reason to go back to the surface (Food / Water))
- Even on higher difficulty, never really felt pressured, had to set custom difficulty and it was still pretty easy to evade cogs
- could have actual fortifications/fortresses that spawn COGS in lower levels instead of just drill ships that pop up and density of Cogs gets higher.
- could use a better sound design (awooga gets annoying, turned off in game sound mid way through the play-through, the sounds can get grating and annoying to listen to in general.)
- COGS should actively defend the last laser, (we chucked mortars at the last laser then got cutscene)
- Once defeating last laser, there should be a last ditch attempt to kill you before they power down, I.E. Drillship defense
- Possibly add an Ironman mode, so if you made mistake, it would stick for a while.
- Cutscene after killing last laser was a bit akward and anticlimactic.
- More endgame content (Possibly PVP, More decoration for drillship/steam punk furniture, Etc..)
- Player customization
- Combat tweaks (It was a rinse and repeat of hit and run tactics and there wasnt too much risk involved)
- A.I. Improvements (COGS work off each others strengths instead of just one mass hoard coming at you)
- General Optimization
- Steam Workshop (heard that was being worked on)
- Day/Night cycle (make it harder to see at night or in the darkness, pull a deep rock galactic and make darkness a mechanic because you are underground consistently)
- Just add more content so game lasts longer.
- If PVP is a thing, make it so every player can have their own ship and can screw each other over.
- Should be optional mechanic that punishes people the longer they stay underground as a means of avoiding combat. I.E. enemies become more advanced/ harder to fight the longer you stay underground. Some sort of race against the clock mechanic.
- More modules, Modules should have certain conditions/ environments that they will work in most efficiently.
- Drillship V drillship combat (more points of entry, Just an idea toss)
- Should be debuffs from breathing in volcanic ash instead of just limited eyesight. Give stamina debuffs for breathing in volcanic ash.(COGS should be more active in ash and more actively hunt the player as the player is weaker)
- Give more content/ reasons to be above ground on the surface outside of purely mines.
- Possibly add underground biomes in the different caves / areas

5-10 minutes in, 'Cool, a drillship!'
30 minutes in, 'I can place modules ON THE CEILING?!'
40 minutes in, 'I have way too much stuff, I'll never run out of coal too!'
1.5 hours in, 'I ran out of coal'
2 hours in, 'I finally have a second part to my drillship, new room for new modules and turrets! Got a shotgun too'
5 hours in, 'Ah, finally, tier 2 stuff, now a single grenade won't wipe out half my damn ship'
5.5 hours in, 'Two grenades took out half my ship'
8 hours in, 'Third segment to my drillship! Wait, what do you mean I can't deploy my 24th module? Why? What? Huh?'
8.5 hours, 'Oh, that's why'
9 hours, 'I THINK I have enough defense now. Hmm, yeah, I think 10 SMG turrets are enough'
10 hours, 'Omfg pls shoot the damn robot, turrets'
12 hours, 'Time to mine some coal. What do you mean drillship is getting attacked?'
12.1 hours, 'THAT'S LIKE MY WHOLE SHIP!'
14 hours, 'pls grenades'
15 hours, 'pls smg turret ammo, pls coal, pls crystals, pls sulfur'
15.7 hours, 'Wtf is a transmission?'
15.8 hours, 'hehe middlefinger logo go BRRR'
16 hours, *dies 7 times trying to get a second transmission*
19.1 hours, 'My Drillship do be lookin' kinda THICC tho'
19.9 hours, ‘Did I just save OVER MY 19.9 HOUR SAVE?!’
It was at this point, that gamingwithian realised that it’s not always about the progress or the end, but about the journey you make trying to get there.
Nah, who am I kidding? Dev, please make some sort of revert save option.

What I liked:
The aesthetic of the game is wonderful. I really like the steampunk look and feel.
I also like the idea of this mobile base that you take with you. You can upgrade it to add better facilities and even make it into a very large ship.
The graphics, sound, and animation are good for what the game is. Nothing earth shattering, but it certainly could be worse.
Load times are very quick. I would normally not mention this, except for a few recent games I have played that are slow to load.
What I didn’t like:
There are two main activities you spend most of your time on. Maybe 90% of your time.
The first one is on a 2d map, where you drive the icon of your ship around exploring an area and collecting resources like iron, copper, and coal.
The second activity is spending time in your drill ship while it's parked somewhere, watching crafting timers. So you have a research station that is doing research where you queue up and just watch a meter go. Then a refinery to turn iron ore into iron ingots. Then a crafting station to turn ingots into parts into whatever it is you want. All this takes a lot of time and there isn’t much to do.
You might think you want to park your ship and go exploring while all this crafting is going on, but that isn't viable because the crafting queues are so small. By the time you got anywhere, your factories would be done and you would need to return to your ship. Also you can only walk in caves or the overworld. The overworld only has basic resources which you do not need after the beginning of the game. The caves only have a VERY limited number of nodes to mine as well so there isn’t much to do there either. So basically find a book to read or something while all this crafting is going on.
The basic game-play loop is to kill a drillship, get a foozle from it, then do the above loop until everything is upgraded to the next tier and then find another drillship to kill in order to get foozle level +1 and do the loop again. That is almost the entire game-play.
What I REALLY didn’t like:
Combat really sucks in this game. You get torn up even with your best armor and best weapons. Your one dude against an infinitely respawning army. You weapons would need to be MUCH more powerful to deal the waves dues they throw at you near the end game. Its not challenging, but absurd.
For example, there is a quest to kill a tier 4 drill ship. This is a huge ship that has like 8 spawners for cogs. Not just any cogs, but top tier cogs. It took me like 10 attempts to take one out. My strategy was to make a bunch of save games at certain points where I was doing well so I could restart from that point again when everything went to hell.
At one point I am in a corridor in the enemy drill ship with a gatling gun going full blast and there are so many cogs spawning that I can’t make any headway. So I just have to duck out and find the spawners and take them out one by one, all the while the timer to the next eruption is counting down. But I beat it. The ONE tier 4 drill ship.
So I make it to the final mission, which is to take a giant laser thingy which is supposedly making the volcano. Well this baby is guarded by not one, not two, but THREE tier 4 ships cranking out the cogs. Now if my weapons and armor didn’t suck (I had the best the game offered as far as I can tell), then maybe I could have done it. I tried for a while and gave up because it's just WTF insane. This is on “Normal” difficulty BTW.
Part of the problem is that Armor isn’t armor. It doesn’t reduce damage. Its just extra HP. Now if titian armor gave you like 90% damage reduction rather than 4 bars of health (which can evaporate in seconds) then you might be able to do a lot better. Also changing armor or using a health pack takes a very long time as far as combat is concerned.
The major design flaw that this game is guilty of (and they are NOT alone in making this error) as far as the end-game is that they do not have any real creative idea of what to do for the finally of their game. So what do they do? Just throw waves of dudes as you and call it a day. So many games fail in their design this way. You read reviews that say something like, it was a good game for the most part, but at the end it all fell apart. All other mechanics go out the window and they throw a bunch of bad guys at you.
I have no idea where they can go with the design. Maybe when it's done I'll check it out again. Maybe they will have figured out what they want to do with the game by then.
Some small suggestions in case the devs read this:
Make production smart. Let me pick the end product and have the manufacturing system make all the things in between.
Make armor actual armor and not just some extra HP.
Improve combat and the weapons to handle waves of bad guys. Maybe if the gatling gun had explosive ammo that not only did more damage, but was an AoE, that would help a lot.
Slightly bigger suggestion. Let us build an army of our own cogs. Maybe the end battle would not be so ridiculous as it is now. Also these cogs should be able to collect corpses of other dead cogs to re-cycle into new cogs.

The Devs show this game a lot of love, there is definitely progress. The Balancing still needs some twerking arround, since grenades are pretty hefty against nearly everything. The Corgs got a bit more the enemy i wished for, pathfinding has some bugs, but they can be a decent challenge when you play the highest difficulty (applies when you know the game a bit).
The Steampunk setting is one of the parts that got me into this game at the start. I can't wait for future updates and what the game will become in the future.

Good points of the game :
- The devs are really active and listen a lot to the community
- The gameplay is unique
- The base building around the drillship is well done
- The crafting system is enough complex to keep you interested into, but the tutorial makes it simple enough to understand
- The tutorial covers the whole game so you can't be loose if you enable it (tutorial = quests, quests can be done even if you don't accept it, there are more likely information)
- The multiplayer, there are vocal channel in their discord until they add in-game vocal and also a channel to search for crewmates
- The map is good to explore (villages, underground, caves)
- The modding is helped a lot (sometimes devs even help modders for programming or modelling) so it can balances the problem of replay value
Bad points :
- Not much replay value, mods are here tho
- Repetitiveness, the three areas are pretty much the same, the only thing that spice it up is that when you come to a new area, ennemies have weapons that you don't have yet
- The multiplayer still have some bugs of desync between the owner and the other players
- The normal difficulty seems to be unbalanced according to a lot of players.

At the time of writing, I have owned the game for around 24 hours and have about seven hours playtime into the game on the single player side. I was serious when I wrote in the summary that Vulcanoids desperately wants to be a good game. The game is fairly stable and relatively bug free. It has an interesting concept around the game play. The animations are smooth. Weapons feel balanced and satisfying when fired. The developers put thought into how the various elements of the base would work, with many containers and work benches having controls that can be used without going into the container or workbench to use them. And the art style avoids that garish cartoon feel that Borderlands has. Even the base-building aspect avoids the hang-ups that seem to plague a lot of similar games. By all accounts, I should be recommending this game and not telling you to look elsewhere. Except I cannot recommend this game while it has the following issues:
The tutorial system stinks. No tutorial systems should spend more than 30 minutes, and especially not past the two-hour window Steam allows for their “no questions asked” return period. Volcannoids tries to get around this by dividing the “tutorial tasks” between what they call “essential” and “optional” lessons. Except that most of the relevant lessons are in the optional section, all the lessons are quests, the lesson quests are mixed in with the rest of the quests given by the only quest giver in the entire game, and many of the non-tutorial quests hinge on completing the tutorial quests (At least in the single player games). Add to the fact that the tutorial system never mentions the Quest/Journaling system that the tutorial system relies on to coach the player in what to do. All of this means that the player will be committed to the game’s purchase long before they “get to the good stuff” to decide if they want to keep the game. While I do not think the devs are deliberately trying to stretch out things past the two-hour mark to stick you with their game, it is something they inadvertently did.
The game fails to explain core concepts well. This is everything from the tutorial system to the very tools and objects themselves. For instance, the game never explained the difference between the various types of storage (including drillship storage). Nor did it properly explain the difference between the Object and Drillship tabs in the attached drillship storage system. Imagine my horror of having added a storage module to expand the ship’s inventory, loaded it up to get stuff out of my personal inventory, and then seeing the drillship’s inventory cut in half. The game never explained that each storage module added to the ship was just a storage chest itself, and the ship creates an array of storage devices while the ship is deployed “on the surface.” (Also, good luck finding anything when the ship’s submerged because the storage fragments when submerged.) Likewise, the game fails to explain that once you created an item needed to upgrade the ship, you do not need to craft any more of that item. This will result in new players crafting multiples of items they only need one of, like the level one crafting module blueprint. Nor does it explain that when you destroy the last attached modules to a vulcanoid, you better not be standing inside when you do so. (This one I think is more of a deliberate design choice for a laugh at the player’s expense.) Nope. Just some disjointed message boxes and BOOM!
The upgrade system is just as broken. The game has two ways a player can modify their drillship. The first is crafting components to physically place on the drill ship, and the second is to craft upgrade items to be placed in a special upgrade board. This, in of itself, isn’t a bad way to do things. Everspace 2 (another Early Access title I’m currently playing) uses this same setup. Except that Everspace 2 does not have me craft items for the second half. I just go to the slot I want to purchase the upgrade for, pay the material costs, and voila! The upgrade is done. With Volcanoid, first you must have the recipe to craft the upgrade part. And most of those are locked behind the quest system with no mention of which quest is needed, at least in the single player mode. Then there is the crafting itself, which for the upgrade parts requires navigating a myriad of similarly named component recipes and parts for the upgrade recipe. And oh my, if you accidentally made more than the required allotment of parts needed for the upgrade, you are now stuck salvaging the extras for a salvage penalty.
And Finally: THE WHOLE VOLCANO AND DRILLSHIP CONCEPTS ARE JUST GIMICS. This is where the game wants to be a better game than it really is. A lot of survival games (especially those built around a “survive the night” zombie mechanic) have a split day/night cycle where the players are out gathering resources during the day and hunkered down in their bunker at night to avoid the nocturnal terrors. Living with a volcano that erupts every 36 minutes, one would think that this would be an especially trying event. Except it’s barely an inconvenient that results in a-minute-long time out for everyone. Add to it that there is no compelling reason given by the game play mechanics to try to push being above ground for as long as possible, and the timeout does not even rate as an annoyance. Likewise, the drillship is not a mobile base in the same sense as with games like Raft, Space Engineers, and Empyrion. Instead, it is just a quick travel mechanic given the illusion of a mobility through a minigame. (Similar to moving between areas in both Diablo 2 and 3, except you must navigate a maze when switching areas.) So, instead of being able to drive this tank around both the surface and underground while battling other drillships, it is a “hold on, Jimmy’s in the pilot seat and we have to wait for him to finish the game”, which cannot be fun for the other players in multiplayer.

The overall gameplay is solid, a few bugs here and there but nothing major.
My only real complaint is I don't see much replay value with the content that is currently in the game, however the devs are great people listening to community feedback and applying new features.
Within a year or two I reckon this game will be amazing, but for anyone buying, you are buying an alpha- a great alpha, but a more investment buy than a full game right now.

#1 This games tutorial is easy to follow. Easy to work with and if you're familiar with survival type games very quick to catch on. If you do not like reading at all... by that 1 or two small sentences about 4 words or less. I suppose you should go back to playing mine craft.
#2 The devs really have put a lot of work into this game I'm assuming they will do more. You do travel underground but as stated before you pop back out at certain cave points.
Neither of those points made were even justifiably good reasons not to play the game or buy it.
------------------
Its fun really easy to get into I've only played single player.
First person camera does not make me motion sick ( praise to the devs because most fps get me motion sick)
Graphics are epic and your whole damn base looks badass mobs are cool to fight and combat is pretty streamlined.
Overall give the game 4.5 stars there are small things i'd love to see but nothing that makes this game horrible. If you like survival games pick this up its awesome

The only notes i have playing through this game are below
1. Ammunition types currently there are 3 different ammo types but i hope they implement more for the other weapons as the only way we were able to deal with super tanky weapons is with the end game Gatling gun which i suppose is the point but i wanted to double barrel shotgun / Revolver these COG bots
2. The content is great and its a fun game to dive into however id love to see more of it, my buddy and i got to the point where we had effectively completed the game and were reluctant to finish it off because we didn't want it to end. maybe an endless game mode or more depth to the game / tiers and upgrades etc.
3. Additional fuel source modules would be cool a way to make maybe batteries that you can store inside the ship and solar panels that you can use to charge the bats when on the surface etc as late game coal power becomes an inhibit on your progress.
All in all id say a strong 9/10 with the only adding point being more depth to the game to have a bigger replay-ability / continual play

The game seems to have a lot of potential, and so much room to expand and it does seem like the developers are wanting to deliver a great gaming experience!
The Good:
- Visually inspiring
- Original
- Little bit of everything; combat (think Subnautica, with guns); crafting; exploring; surviving and so on
- Interactive tutorial (though could be minimally improved)
- Steampunk!
The Bad:
- Limited tutorial, but hopefully will be improved as the game goes on
- The crafting system UI is a little clunky*
- Too much open space, no world filling
- Cog enemies stand to be shot posing no challenge unless difficulty is increase
* The crafting UI: When trying to repair a breach, usually players will look for green, so when you click on a breach or repair a breach, it should show up as a wall if you have the repair module, however, if you do not have the module but have other modules such as a refinery or door etc... it builds that instead, making it a little award.

Pros:
- we (a team of two) had no glitch (except for the network, see below): early access does not mean buggy this time;
- the mechanics is varied but not too fancy: interesting but not too distracting
- the co-op MP adds a lot of fun
- graphics, sound, etc. are nice, with the light steam-punk touch adding colour without becoming a distraction.
Con:
- The contents is limited; still, finishing the story took us around 10 - 12 hours, which makes for slightly more than 1 € per hour: hard to beat! The devs are quite present and active, and they are working on adding to the story, though.
- In MP, the network is at times unstable with occasional spikes of very high latency, but we had no real connection break-down.
Thumb up!

it has good potential & a promising and fulfilling roadmap . Note that all my playtime was in Co-Op mode.
You play as a member of the last surviving humans after earth was hit by multiple natural hazards,
your objectives being mining resources, crafting materials, stealing & upgrading drillships, fighting Robots,
all those while taking cover from constantly upcoming volcano erruptions.
- Pros
~ Tutorial & starting objectives are really helpful and explanatory, making this game and its mechanics easy to understand & grasp.
~ Beautiful and detailed drillships with a good amount of features, pretty cinematics and camera angles while they emerge/submerge.
~ One of the best volcano Eruption events i ever played in a video game, its really beautiful to watch (even at the cost of your own life) and can get really tense to take cover from.
~ Good amount of crafts & updates
~ Really nice periscope view while going underground
~ Tons of fun with a friend
Cons
~ Needs some better optimazation, some landmarks causes FPS Drops
~ While the Volcano Erruption and the drillships, as stated above, are trully beautifully crafted, i can't say the same
for the characters and some terrair. Animations need work , movement feels a bit stiff.
~ The Robot AI needs improvement, most of the times they just run straight at you and shoot.
~ When your drillship is low on ammo or your inventory is full and under some other circumstances, there is a notification sound
which i personally found annoying and it hits you 1-2 per minute until you do whats indicated. There should be an option to turn it off.
~No ability to manually drive the drillship , you just click on locations and it takes you on auto drive.
~ NOT procedurally generated map , its the same everytime.
All in all , i easily sunk my first hours in the game without realizing how they got passed,
had a blast learning game's curve and had quite a few laughs, so that's a yes from me.
Also they re soon adding online PVP , am so looking forward to that since its my cup of tea.
Totally recommended to try it out, especially if you're a steampunk geek!

Both seem a bit insecure (what if I start writing the wrong password, then that went over the line needlessly. I hope they'll have someone skilled review their security before they ship.

Story is basic and mostly there to help you figure out and progress through the mechanics.
It's not going to make you think too hard, and there isn't really any lore that explains the world/setting.
I'm was really here for the drillship bases!
Building the ship is fun, but figuring out how pieces fit around in the beginning was difficult. I somehow missed that things could go on the ceiling for a few hours and things were getting crowded.
I beat the game on easy in about 10 hours.
I do recommend this game even just for the single player mode!
It was enjoyable for the cost/time that I got from it, and if you play co-op I'm sure you'll get double that.
The game shows some original mechanics that I'd to see where the developer goes with it in the future.

My main gripe is that the enemies dont miss. This would be fine since it only takes a little HP away except for the fact that you cant reliably shoot them until your within their range. This was not an issue for me until I got the 'quests' that want me to invade the enemy drill ships where they keep spawning every... 15-30 seconds from each spawner and there are around 2 spawners in each section. Finally realized that you can destroy them, but even so you have to weather 2-3 waves of spawns to get to where you can destroy them. this means that for a t2 enemy ship I die before I can take it out. Then when I go to retrieve my backpack I cant because somehow despite destroying all the spawners there is now a swarm of enemies around where I died. I will play the game again (and change my review) if one of three things happens.
1. Reliable ranged weapon to take out the random enemies in the overworld (once its close quarters you will still get hit but you wont be 'carrying' as much damage from the outside)
2. Armor to reduce the amount of damage down to a manageable level
3. Anything else that will change the interaction and make it less punishing or more manageable

I don't hate the game
Thats not why i'm giving it thumbs down (again blame steam for not giving a 'mixed' option). Its fun, good concept, buts Its got that heavy coating of early early access.
Notable things to mention
- The drill ship has set spawns
- The map is not procedural. Same one everytime
- You cannot build your own drill ship. You have to steal it and, in the early game, you can steal a drill ship that is loaded with technology, taking the fun out of 'building from scratch.'
- You can 'beat' the game (theres even an achievement for doing it in under 7 hours).
- Drill ship has limited expansion (restrictive playground essentially)
- No incentive to continue playing after beating the game. I can only upgrade so much and I can only add like 2 extra section to my drill ship. Why bother?
Needs a LOT more Content
Drill ship needs to be tweaked and endgame content is needed, similar to Minecraft. Give players the ULTIMATE power of creativity. Essentially, near infinite 'endgame.' Sorry

P.S. Someone named Tiereian or something said that you can’t dig with the drillship, on a map or anything. However, since the travel update, that has been proven untrue. So if ya see this, just know that you can in fact use the drillship.

The shooter parts stood out as something that could use the most improvement:
- AI: There's only one tactic the enemies have: run towards you, and shoot. And there's only one tactic you can use to counter them: shoot back, duck, reload, repeat. And it's not very clear whether you're safe behind cover or not
- Enemy variety. They differ only in color and strength. Difference in weapons, abilities, or behavior would make things a lot more interesting
That said, the base building and raiding is very satisfying. Not sure if everybody will find it worth it's price at it's current state, but I'm not regretting my purchase,

+ Designing your own drill ship is fun. How you design it has impact on how easy it is to do things and gives you some nice personalization to your drill ship.
+ Combat can be fun and hectic.
+ 3 tiers of stuff to go through gives a decent amount of content.
- Quests are nothing more than tutorials.
- Balance is off badly. Some weapons feel useless and you can get a ton of easy resources by just mining through the safe underground. This is likely to change.
- The game can get pretty repetitive, pretty quickly. Some fun new activities on the horizon though.
- The inventory system is pretty bad. You require quite a bit of ammo and healing items to invade an enemy ship and most enemy ships have so much loot that even gathering only the useful stuff can generally lead to a full inventory extremely quickly.
- Waiting around for an explosion when you don't have much to do can be annoying.

definitely still a early access, mechanics are well though out but still rough. still that being said it is a great game with a quarky and memorable style that is refreshing.
A bit more:
even with the quick dropping start it still had easily learnable gameplay mechanics.
great sound effects, not too intense but not too dull.
really novel approach to the whole open world grind style of game which was a nice.
the graphics are pretty good and the system to drive and surface add a lot of immersion into the game.
some things that I've noticed so far:
- not super optimized I noticed fps jumping around a majority of the time
- random graphical glitching through stuff, not as bad as say no man sky or pubg when they first launched but still noticeable most of the time it is just the corner of the object being clipped through by the player.
- first tutorial could be better explained, especially as time goes on and the game becomes more complex. I found myself a good bit confused until I figured out what all the different parts and modules do.
-AI could be better the enemy seems to just do a random search until it finds a player owned thing then it engages with that thing that it has found. doesn't make a whole lot of sense though. for instance if you come up to an enemy drillrig and the have turrets/power plants/storage/and production modules the logical progression would be take out the turrets then raid then disable equipment to prevent from rebuilding. or take out the power to stop the turrets then raid and take out production to prevent rebuilding. the AI tends to just go for whatever is closest. it would be cool if the AI would be more competitively opportunistic with it's targeting.
overall I would recommend this game, because it is quarky and kind of steampunk, kind of it's own thing but draws from something familiar. Idk It's pretty cool and definitely worth the $20 if nothing else it will be interesting to see how far it progresses in the future.

You get to command a Vernian(as in Jules Verne, you know the guy?) Drill Ship with fully customizable controls to manage your production modules and defenses, while also leading the assault on your own! There's a LOT, and I mean like 80% of the game plan to be implemented, multiplayer apparently, dozens of variations... You can have fun right now, you can even end the game, but it's very far from being the final version! I'm on my 4th playthrough, no regrets from playing so early!

GOOD
- Ship customization and building is there and it's somewhat complex
- Devs are very 'hands-on' on the project
BAD
- Fantastic concept but it feels very limited and small-scale. I wish you were able to travel long distances, uncover new biomes etc. I hoped travelling will take time etc.
- Gunplay is just awful. Unresponsive, rigid and sticky.
- UI and most importantly UX is terrible. It feels like the interface was designed by developers - not a dedicated designer.
- Gameplay is repetitive, at least at the time of this review
- Enemies never miss. You get overrun very quickly.
- No real motivation to explore the world (everything feels the same) or upgrade your ship
- A lot of guesswork is involved to figure out how the machines work
- Although I like the 'budget' way to explore the world (a 2D map where you move your ship around, underground) it's very unattractive and feels half-assed at the moment.
- Sound design is very basic. Not sure why the ship sounds like a diesel but burns coal to fuel generators.
There's a lot of work ahead. Hope they don't drop the ball!
