It's not terrible but it doesn't excel at anything (actually it's more boring than working with Excel, ha)
The thing is, you start your life, and go to work, like...well, life. Then you see how your character goes to work and comes back. And you gain jobs while progressing with the story.
The story requires character levels, in order to do quests. The quests are the characters walking, in which you don't do much, then have a two liner dialog, and then work again. While questing you don't level up, you can only level up by working, or by paining a training for your party, in which you don't have any kind of interaction except pressing A to pay.
From time to time you have a birthday or a festival, which are the only bits of story you have, and then that's it.
This is clearly a mobile game, and a bad one at that.
Look, I love jrpgs, and invested some hours into this until I said ok let's stop. Because as some comment before me said, it is not rewarding at all. So, there, not recommended.

It's simple to the point of being mind-numbing at times, but it's also somehow relaxing to play on a steam deck when you don't have time to do anything else. If you go into it expecting it to basically be a time waster with a light jrpg/life sim theme, then its really not bad at that.

I'm a diehard Square fan, even when half the games they churn out are flaming dumpster garbage. But that being said, sometimes their bad games, like this one still have some charm *and* I am easy to please. But there is nothing that stands out about this game, and the fact its a $30 game that was released on IOS a few years ago is pure unadulterated Square Enix greed, which they are becoming increasingly known for. But I got this as a package deal with Triangle Strategy, an actual GOOD game (which is still hilarious because SE will literally make a FF Tactics-esque game without making it an actual FF Tactics game just to spite the players, but I digress) and this was like $3. Don't buy this for full price. MAYBE buy it for half or packaged with something; like I did with Triangle Strategy.
The game is about as inspired as the name. It's a work simulator with extra steps and playing it feels a lot LIKE work, so if that is what they were aiming for, they knocked it out of the park.

Now the actual review.
It's a Princess Maker clone. What could be better? Well, a princess for starters. Character creation is VERY bare. No female option, and only 3 face option (and each face corresponds to a unique voice). To those that don't know Princess Maker, the game-play loop involves choosing daily activities to increase stats. When you feel your stats are high enough, go out on an expedition (with turn-based battles) and advance the story. Rise and repeat.
The problem with Various Daylife is that it's extremely slow and ultimately unrewarding. Your job choices are very limited in the beginning, and at 5 hours in, I've only unlocked a total of 5 classes. That's also the exact number of potential party members as well, so you're also forced to double up on classes so a diverse party is, as of yet, impossible. Eventually more will unlock, but it's very slow going and you feel railroaded in what's supposed to be a very free-choice game. It's like playing Skyrim but being forced to follow the story missions until you reach Whiterun...and it takes you 10 hours to reach Whiterun.
If you know what you're getting into, I'd recommend it at a VERY discounted price.

Fundamentally, it's an RPG. You level up, get stats, do the thing. The interesting part is that you can do side jobs to increase your stats. Depending on what day of the week it is, there is a multiplier to increase stat gain or loss.
The stats are very similar in concept to the Chao Garden in the Sonic Adventure series.
The side-job system is based on a stamina/luck completion chance system, that isn't a bad call, but the fact that it can be replenished by going on dates with your party members (which also increase your stats) make it no better than an idle/clicker game at this rate if you play optimally.
The best way that I have found to play this game optimally with as little thought as possible is:
Look at day & multiplier. Do the job that increases the most stat according to the multiplier. If you're at around half stamina, go on the tavern date (it's cheap and replenishes a lot, and increases stats the same as the others), continue leveling via side jobs. Use extra gold to level up your characters. Once you hit level cap... Play the story.
I'll keep playing it for now to see if anything changes, but I don't have high hopes.
EDIT: Also. The voices are annoying. They're a fake language, which in it of itself, isn't bad... Unless it's poorly executed. I had to mute the voices 10 minutes into the game.
The travel time in an actual quest can only be sped up to x2. It takes forever to get into a combat situation even with x2.
I found out recently that this was originally an Apple Arcade game that they simply ported over to PC. This sucks.
