Zitat:
You are being deceived and confused by literally everyone. -- Gerald Kolas
As you can read on the Store Page, the game is about being a newly-appointed king that must uncovered the truth about your father's murderer(s) and yet at the same time trying to [strike]fix[/strike] govern your kingdom.
What I like/Pro(s):
- The art style has me captivated ever since I first found this and wishlist-ed it. I love the semi-realistic style and it's refreshing to see unlike the anime style that seems so overused. And the backgrounds on this VN is also gorgeous and pleasing to look at.
- There are also a (little) bit of romance element and not just the mystery element. Though until now I'm not sure how many LIs are there since the devs haven't answered my question on the forum.
- The story line and the characters are pretty intriguing and enjoyable. I couldn't remember the last time I was this frustrated trying to uncover the mystery while still being careful enough to not get killed as well. After knowing the full story, I was left feeling sorry for the MC since
he basically can't trust anyone he knows
and even in the 'best' ending,
it's still not a happy ending for him
.
Everyone only needs something (or two things) from him and ends up using him one way or another
. While that's cruel, it's realistic and that's just how court intrigue is like. Honestly, I think the plot and characterization are two of the things I really like from this VN.
What bothers me/Con(s):
- There's no manual save system. Based on the devs' response here, there's no way to implement the manual save system since it'd break the game and leads to bugs and exploits. While I'm not fond of that idea, at least there's a separate system for each day (there are 8-9 days in total) and with the skip function you don't need to wait too long when you restart the day.
- The (complex) combat system. I've played the tutorial twice on the demo and the actual game, and yet I still hadn't fully grasped the how to survive a fight. At Day 5 and Day 8, you will have to
fight quite a lot of people
and there's no way to continue the game unless
you're victorious
. This fact really irritates me and I had to find a workaround so I could still go on -- but I'm quite sure people who don't know the workaround would be frustrated if they simply were stuck on one point just because of the combat system.
- The (confusing) court trial system. During the game, you will face three trials and until now I still don't know how to beat it. I guess it's bugged somehow, and again I had to find a workaround.
- The translation definitely could use some improvements. While it's not to the point of 'so bad you won't understand a thing' it's still not fully polished and sometimes I had to re-read the lines to understand their meaning. Once the translation is fixed by a professional proofreader, I'm sure the game will be ten times more enjoyable.
Overall, I enjoyed the game although I couldn't say the same to people who couldn't get past the combat system and/or trial system. At this moment my verdict would be a NEUTRAL -- basically buy at your own risk after knowing the pros and cons. You can always wait for a SALE and/or wait until the bugs and the translation is FIXED so you can enjoy the game more. But this is definitely a good piece to play especially if you're into mystery.
