Experience the first full Austrian route in Train Sim World! Semmeringbahn: Wiener Neustadt - Mürzzuschlag is out now!
Train Sim World 4: Semmeringbahn: Wiener Neustadt - Mürzzuschlag route Add-on is out now for Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Epic Games Store, and Steam for €35.99/£29.99/$39.99
Our expansion into Austria continues! Take control of national operator ÖBB’s modern electric traction through the Semmering Pass along a railway first conceived in 1842.
All Electric Action
Operate three different kinds of services across this route of two halves with electric traction from the ÖBB fleet. Haul passengers in Bmz Coaches across the full length of the route with the ÖBB 1116 ‘Taurus’ electric locomotive or take things slow with local trains between Wiener Neustadt Hbf and Payerbach-Reichenau with the ÖBB 4024 Talent 1 EMU.
If heavy freight is what you prefer, the ‘Taurus’ can also run double-headed with Habbiins, Sggmrss and Shimmns wagons in the consist, making for a more challenging drive through the tight turns and steep gradients.
Take on Semmering Pass
Wind through challenging but beautiful scenery at the western end of the route from Mürzzuschlag to Gloggnitz via stations nestled between impressive viaducts and deep tunnels. Slow curves and notable gradients will see plenty of power needed from both the motors and the brakes on services travelling in alternate directions to and from the peak at Semmering.
At Semmering Station, views out into the mountainous landscape can be appreciated by players and passengers alike, including some very keen characters looking to grab a quick selfie next to the Monument of Carl Ritter von Ghega - part of the Dioramas that have been included in routes since the launch of Train Sim World 4.
Carl Ritter von Ghega (1802 - 1860) was the designer of the Semmeringbahn between Gloggnitz and Mürzzuschlag.
There's also a unique Mastery Tile to unlock - the static ÖBB 5144 railcar! Like other static Mastery Tiles found on the West Somerset Railway and Glossop Line, this is nothing more than an attractive scenery tile.
From Gloggnitz it’s a straight dash at high speed through to the finish at Wiener Neustadt where the surroundings get denser and the traffic busier with both the 1116 and 4024 running in and out of Lower Austria’s busiest station.
Throughout the route there’ll be the usual host of collectibles to hunt down like route maps and first aid points, as well as the fallen branches to chop up as was seen in Salzburg – Rosenheim. There’ll also be 25 Hiker Backpacks hidden across the landscape to find!
Services, Layers and Gameplay
A varied timetable utilises the ÖBB 1116 for different services including NJ, RJ, IC, EC and D trains, with the ÖBB 4024 taking up the CJX9 and R91 trains in and out of Wiener Neustadt. AI traffic using both trains will move in and out of the map at both ends, with a number of depot moves also available.
Freight trains also play a key part, with additional rolling stock supplementing the Habbiins, Sggmrss and Shimmns wagons that come included with this Add-on. Players with previously released Train Sim World content can utilise:
- DB Laaers (S-Bahn Vorarlberg)
- Zacns (Dresden – Riesa)
- DB Roos-T (Maintalbahn)
- DB Falns 183 (Ruhr Sieg Nord + DB BR 155)
- VTG Eanos (Kassel - Würzburg)
- Uacns 82 (Ruhr Sieg Nord + DB BR 363)
Three playable rail tours can be operated using the following locomotives and IC coaches from Linke Rheinstrecke:
- DB BR 103 + IC coaches: Linke Rheinstrecke (AI = February to April)
- British Rail Class 47 + IC coaches: Blackpool Branches + Linke Rheinstrecke (AI = June to July)
- Railpool Vectron + IC coaches: Railpool BR 193 Vectron + Linke Rheinstrecke (AI = August – September)
All three rail tours are seasonal, and so do not appear as AI in the timetable for most of the in-game year.
The Railpool BR 193 Vectron will also sub into ÖBB 1116 freight services, for players that own that locomotive.
Players that own Bahnstrecke Salzburg – Rosenheim will also be able to operate four EC services that use the ÖBB 1116 electric locomotive and coaches on that route. These coaches will also be seen as static stock at Salzburg Hbf.
The ÖBB 1116 will also sub into freight services on S-Bahn Vorarlberg.
Also included are 5 Scenarios simulating some unusual occurrences on the route, including a wildfire, a loose cow, failed trains and lost hikers in the mountains!
