All routes have free roam where you can walk around most of the map and you have to fix and find things which is explained in the beginners introduction scenario at the start of each route. You can play the scenarios in any order you want without penalty.
My experiences with the game are mostly positive but I would like to see a custom consist builder where we can build our own train formations to use in our user created scenarios. The consist builder would be a positive move for the community and would allow custom formations to be used in TSW 2 with the limits where longer train formations are disallowed.
Route builders will be disappointed to know that there is no route building tools unlike in TS20xx but I do not build routes so I am not fussed about this to be honest. Graphics are very life like and thanks the UE game engine, its on par in terms of the graphics with GTA V.
Unlike in other games, you won't get fined for speeding or not sounding the horn at crossings but if you do speed in the scenarios. You will not earn any points for as long as the speed limit is exceeded. But the only time the game will take serious action against you is if you pass a red signal as that will result in a mission failed situation.
Final notes. I picked up this game in the March Steam Sale because I wasn't sure if this game would work at all on my PC so I bought it as an experiment and it does run reasonably stable on my gaming laptop and the spec requirements are about the same as GTA V. I have a 32GB RAM, 8GB GTX980M and Intel i7 and it works okay. The game has only crashed once during use when my system decided to update in the background but that is PC issue and not the game.
If you are new to train sim world like I am. I would recommend checking out the bundle deals that are available if you see any add-on expansions that may interest you. All in all, a fantastic game to enjoy and may more popular trains and routes come to us in the future.
Recommended.

Graphics are sub par, and are poorly optimised for hardware, i ran it at high on a gtx 1080 and was chucking out more heat then Far Cry 6 on ultra. The graphic look like a ps3 game.
Tutorials are basic and suck if you're a beginner in train sim games, missing out key information that prevent you from getting the train to move.
Content is lacking with only 3 routes in 3 countries, there really should be more.
Overall the game sucks 2/5 , listen to reviews. When people say don't get it, they mean it.

Controls still cannot be rebound to any device, half the stuff inside the cockpit still doesn't do anything, trackIR or VR support is still nowhere to be seen (Even though UE4 literally has built-in plugins for that) Oh and that highly praised route editor? It's literally just picking the start- and endpoint of a pre-existing route and then making stops in-between without a time schedule.
Maybe if the gameplay direction wouldn't have wasted it's time on including a garbage collectathon we could've gotten something actually good out of this but here we are, a 30 dollar standalone addon to a title that already wasn't particularly good to begin with.

Sadly, TSW2 is still such a mixed bag, I'm not sure I can recommend it in good conscience. There are no steam locomotives in the game, and only a tiny handful of routes break from the national trinity of the US, the UK and Germany. A common complaint among the users is also that some trains sound wrong, but I'm too casual a sim player for such concerns.
What finally drove me to leave a negative review are my recurring run-ins with two problems (one bug, one negligence) that have, in similar form, been around even back in Train Simulator [more-or-less-current year]. The first problem is the bug rendering many savegames (and therefore the whole feature of saving the game) useless. There's a good chance either the signals or the AI will not make the return trip from the saved state void into the land of resumed play unscathed, breaking the sequence of scripts or objectives. How would you like to come to the end of an hour-long run, only to find your path blocked by a red light (if you cross it, it's game over) that will never change? It is even worse in the Train Simulator [annual release], in which you could receive a game over out of the blue in a loaded game because an AI was supposedly derailed (by which I suspect they crossed a broken red light).
The other problem is poor indication of multiple speed limits in short succession. Back in Train Simulator [ten years too many], the indicators of upcoming speed limit changes could overlap. Here's an example of a severe case of this:
https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=1659840312
On some routes, especially in Germany, speed limits in track switching sections might not even be shown at all (enjoy the penalty when entering a surprise 40 km/h zone at 130+ km/h). In Train Sim World 2020 and 2, you're told the next speed limit - and only that one. Which may be a problem if there is another reduction right after that one, leaving you with too little heads-up notice. Even if you manage to slow down enough, you'll likely overbrake (or even trigger an emergency stop if it's on the same braking handle) and lose speed you might need to meet the game's often tight schedules/timetables. It would help to have the UI list the next speed limit as well if it comes within, say, 40 or fewer seconds' drive after the first limit at the first speed limit's speed.

My only reservation on TSW2 over the original Train Simulator franchise is the lack of a community sharing of scenarios as is available for TS via the Steam Workshop and the fine selection of third party developers. even missing that feature - I highly recommend TSW2 for those who enjoy railroads

Couple of new features are included such as the livery designer and scenario planner. LIvery design is self explanatory, pick a train or wagon and paint it. Scenario planner acts more like Quick Drive from the TS 20xx series, pick a route, a train, point A to point B, start time and done but it's usually faster to just do a service run than fiddle around.
But yet it all is not well while not obvious to a fresh customer veterans of DTG notice the tell tale signs have raised their ugly head once more. Back in Train Simulator 20xx content made by DTG themselves was a bit like Russian roulette in quality most had problems to some extent, some were a joke at release due to obviously missed bugs to the rare no problems on release. Their handling of these problems ranged from an immediate fixes to unplayable causing bugs, annoying but playable issues had a 50/50 of being dealt with to no fixes at all or VERY SLOWLY and focus more on producing more DLC further adding more bugs to a never ending list and this attitude is still the same today.
While the content available so far is building up faster than the fixes and generally covers already existing ground it's a start. While immersive it's also rather bland and empty at the same time and despite being smaller usually commands a similar price tag to content for TS. As per usual there's a handful of scenarios but there's also a 24hr service mode which lets you pick a loco, season/weather and a service. These can range from shunting, short trips or the common point A to B trips which does get boring after a few runs. Some routes have extra separate loco's available to purchase and these will add some variety to services but buyer beware as it's not uncommon for some services to be a mere copy/paste of an existing one so you not getting you're full moneys worth.
I do intend on buying the products but I only buy DTG made content when it's usually 50% off as their attitude of release now and fix someday does not justify the price they ask for. TSW 2 is getting there but it feels more arcade than a sim. But if you want to get more out of the game such as better visuals, sounds, liveries and patches then 3rd party is the way to go as it greatly increases the games potential.

TSW 2 by itself i'd rate 5/10.
TSW 2 with mods i'd rate 7/10

A lot of tickets submitted to dovetail and they dont care at all.
The game is nice, however certain basic things like reload a save is horrible, you need to enter the line who throw you at the whatever the game believes is the scenario, just so you need to hit go back to main menu to load a previous save.

The positives:
The graphics in this game are outstanding. The sheer level of visual eye candy is amazing, and creates a sense of immersion that is very rarely seen in other games (I have only experienced a similar or better sense of immersion in X-Plane 11 using third party aircraft and scenery, so we can say they’ve nailed it). However, it is important to note that there are a couple of graphical bugs from time to time, such as other trains on the route, parked or running, being replaced by stipes until I am very close to them. This has mainly happened for me on DLC routes such as Southeastern High Speed DLC.
The game play is just as advertise, you drive a train, and explore the route. This is the main thing I am looking in a train simulator, and being able to walk around outside your train is fun. The simulation of signaling systems can create a challenging environment, however having better representation of the UK signaling system with TPWS and overspeed protection would be better. Additionally, a revamping of the dispatcher could be a helpful positive to improve the gameplay. One negative point with the gameplay is that the routes become somewhat boring to play in after about 10-20 hours on them because the timetable mode is very repetitive due to the lack of random events, meaning you always get the same signal aspects at the same areas (for example: you never really unexpectedly catch up to an ai train after you’ve run one route). A really good example of this happening is on the ICE 3M service between Aachen and Koln, where you always end up slowing down on the high-speed section of the track around Koln Ehrenfeld train station as the train in front of you is never early or late, so it simply becomes an expected event, removing the fun from having to slow down because of a train in front of you. More gameplay modes such as a guard mode would be nice, but Dovetail Games does not advertise it, so we can’t be mad at them for not having it in the game.
The community Dovetail Games has created around this game is nice. This is not directly related to the game, however it should be noted as a positive in my opinion. Through the official forums and the frequent livestreams Dovetail makes, it is easy to get engaged into the community, and know more about specific trains you can drive, the routes you can play in, or simply enjoy a stream.
The mediocre:
The train sounds in Train Sim World 2 are hit or miss. Some trains have very convincing audio, such as the ICE 3M train in the base game, or the Class 465 train DLC. However, many trains have very poor audio, and are a serious disappointment, especially considering that dovetail games appears to have low motivation to properly fix these. This is seen in the Rapid Transit DLC and the accompanying DB BR 182 train DLC, as well as the trains in the Main Spessart Bahn DLC. The sounds are so poor and unconvincing it becomes a chore to play those routes, and I am regretting my purchase of those DLCs. However, to Dovetail’s credit, some improvement has been made through an update to the Rapid Transit update (that was long overdue, but more on this later) which has made it somewhat playable, however it is still far from perfect. I am mentioning the sounds of other DLCs in this review because of the fact that Train Sim World is a sort of ecosystem, where for the most enjoyment, you really need a “collection” of the DLCs, and some people might find Train Simulator 2020 a better offer.
Pricing of Train Sim World 2 might seem affordable, but all the purchase one can make to really have all the fun in this game gets really expensive over time. Having almost every route cost 29 euros is expensive, and is something to consider when buying this game. Please note that the base game does include three routes, but depending on your preferences, you might not enjoy some of them. For example, I see no value in the Sand Patch Grade route that comes with the base game, as I don’t enjoy American freight. I am not putting the pricing as a negative as Dovetail is very upfront about their pricing.
The negatives:
One of the main negative aspects of this game is the quality assurance and quality control the game and its accompanying DLCs goes through. Dovetail has recently developed a reputation for releasing routes and updates that have major bugs within the first five minutes of gameplay that make a route unplayable. This is simply unacceptable. In YouTube streams, they have stated that they will investigate how these routes and updates were released with game breaking bugs, but my expectations of them fixing the problems in QA and QC are very low.
Game and DLC updates are another major negative aspect of this game. I have the impression that the devs have very little intention of fixing things in the routes after they are release. Dovetail has a “preservation crew” to improve old routes, however they mainly add features instead of fix bugs, like adding passenger information screens to platform. However, they seem to be working on routes and then never actually releasing the update, making it appear like they have done no work whatsoever. They recently announced that they were pausing updates to routes until after the Rapid Transit release, which will most likely not release until the end of July, beginning of August, as this is when they usually release their summer updates, as they want to first update the game engine of every route. I personally think this is an insult to every person who plays this game, and shows that they only care about releasing new routes in order to get the sweet income flowing. Sure, update the game engine, but at least release the work you have already done on it. This is simply not acceptable. Furthermore, if they are actually trying to fix a bug, and it turns out that the bug is caused by a “core issue”, meaning an issue in the way the game is programmed, and not the actual route, the preservation crew can not fix it because they can’t touch the “core” code, which is why it may be a good idea to have the “core team” fix bugs instead of a “preservation crew”, especially for older routes. In some cases, bugs are fixed by the “core team”, however from what I’ve seen, this only happens if the route is brand new. Additionally, the developers will sit there and let bugs pile up before fixing them, which, as a player, is very annoying and disappointing. Overall, I wish for Dovetail games to reduce the number of DLCs they release in order to increase the quality of the routes by spending more time on them, ensuring that there are less bugs.
In conclusion, I think that this game has many reasons to buy it, but you do sometimes play a game of Russian roulette when buying DLCs in terms of audio quality, and definitely bugs. Additionally, if you are buying an older DLC, expect to never receive bug fixes that actually fix things, and instead expect to receive new features on them which don’t drastically improve the gameplay, and still leaves the route in a broken state.

Base game only provides less than 5 trains and 3 routes. There are only 33 DLC so that lots of trains are not available in this game.
Hence, the load-save function was totally shit. I spent 30 mins to reach destination and I just overshot a red signal at the end accidenely. The game did not save any previous record and I have to spend 30 mins again to do the same job. It's totally waste my time.

Driving the trains is so good and the game looks great but the compulsory tutorial for each train is long and doesn't tell you things which you absolutely need to know, I have had 2 occasions where i was given a task and a train just came in front of me on the same track in the opposite direction, I successfully drove halfway through one of the trains before it said mission failed, train derailed, IN THE TUTORIAL.
Many times the throttle does not work, the brake does not work, the solution: just click everything until the train starts moving, or stops.
The Map, which functions as the way to change lines so you can be on the correct line if loading freight is just nonsense, open the map, click on the track you wish to change, nothing happens untill you close the map and re-open to see if it changed, half the time it does not change and you cannot change more than one junction at a time, so you want to move 3 junctions to complete the mission? open and close the map 3 times (if you are lucky and each works first time!) Maybe there is another way to do ti but who knows? my experience is from the damn tutorial which didn't mention you need to change the lines to complete the mission, let alone how to do it!.
I'm sure the people who made this game pay for positive reviews because it is sloppy and unpolished, it is a bad product, plain and simple.

What is good:
- the trains: detail inside and out is superb and usually the sounds too. If you master the PZB/ LZB systems on the fast german 'ice' train it is a real experience to drive it. Similarly the class 101 and 37 are a real pleasure to drive
- framerate/ crashes: good framerates and few crashes (much better than TS2021)
What is bad.
-The scenery and weather. It might seem picky but these often destroy the immersion. If you set anything other than clear weather it looks terrible. Try setting winter around sunset. It looks like it could have been set on Mars! Rain looks like sleet and is totally unconvincing. Anything hinting at bad weather immediately and agressively sucks all the colour out to an unrealistic level. Clouds look bad. Vegatation (trees, grass, etc look the same wherever you encounter them.) Near scenery is sometimes good but distant scenery really looks artificial. TS2021 is way better in this respect. The whole thing looks unconvincing and really spoils the enjoyment. It was said that the weather in TSW2 would be better and that there would be cloud layers etc. It isn't. The scenery, (including the sea), look way better in the TS2021 version of Isle of Wight for example.
The lighting is often an issue too. eg in the Bakerloo line the outside of the train is lit as if in one of the bright underground stations, so during evenings and above ground it looks way too bright.
Passengers: sometimes they walk in front of the train. In the Bakerloo line, (included), they literally float into the sky at some of the surface stations! How can this have been missed and not corrected? In the Isle of Wight they suddenly accelerate up the footbridge at hyper speed!
Implementation: train doors not adjacent to a platform still open into thin air. This problem has been present since TSW2020 (TS 2021 doesn't do this).
Some trains respond to wheelslip but not the sander! So, for example, on Rapid Transit you cannot stay on time and the wheelslip still occurs in the underground sections!
Some times you will get a manual for your recent purchase and other times an inadequate quick start guide or no manual at all!
External views still 'snatch' as they pass static objects.
Display.
-There is a terrible 'depth of field' effect which blurs objects according to what you are zoomed in on. In TS2021 you can turn it off IN TSW you can't
It is too bright! There is no 'in game control' of brightness levels. This is a fairly basic function and again is available in 2021
The HUD has been dumbed down and looks worse.
Developer access. This is the biggest problem. Still no developer pack has been released. Third party developers would have probably sorted out many of the issues above. This is preventing the game from improving. Console focus means we are offered the chance to fill fire buckets and stick up maps whilst the fundamental problems remain. Could I solve these issues? No..but then I'm not a software developer charging (a substantial amount), for my work!
In truth, unless DTG up their game I don't think that TSW2 will do well long term. In reality this means urgently releasing a developer pack: as they aren't going to achieve this on their own. I was initially enthusiastic and still like some aspects of the game but overall its disappointing. TS2021 remains the better simulator despite it bugs.

Pros:
+ Includes ICE high speed train and London Underground, something that has been wanted for a long time.
+ The trains look stunning and are interesting to drive.
+ Sounds on the ICE3M and BR442 are very good and close to reality.
+ The routes are beautifully detailed.
+ All of the routes from TSW2020 (except for NEC) will be moved to TSW2 as part of preserved collection.
+ You're able to move freely around the routes, like hop on a train as a passenger and take a look around the stations, which I think is really cool.
+ Improved physics, we now got wheel slip.
+ New livery designer, which allows you to be creative making new designs.
+ The graphics are at some parts stunning.
Cons:
- The third route included, Sand Patch grade was just imported from TSW2020 and hasn't really improved.
- The performance is awful, the game stutters and freezes all the time.
- There are many graphical glitches, which makes the game look really bad at some places.
- Popups everywhere, even on ultra view distance.
- The tutorials teach only the very basic and not how to actually operate the train properly, in fact it doesn't even teach some imporant functions like displays and passenger lights.
- The scenarios are boring and repetitive, and offers no challenge.
- Tasks often fail to acomplish in scenarios and you must do them twice.
- The new scenario planner is very limited and useless in every way.
- The 1972 stock on the Bakerloo Line sound nowhere close to reality and there is not even announcments!
- There are numerous bugs on the routes (which mostly remain unfixed).
- At some stations the train clips through the platform, which is not acceptable at all!
- The preserved collection routes come with the same, if not even more bugs than TSW2020.
To sum it up, this game has a lot of potential. It's easily the best train sim out there. I could see me enjoying countless hours with this game. But sadly the numerous bugs and horrible performance breaks the whole experience. All in all, the game just feels rushed out and shouldn't be released at this state. It's a scam to call this a new game, it's just an updated version of TSW2020, which honestly didn't fix much at all.
Please don't waste your money on this shit. It's sort of enjoyable at some points, but in the end you're just doing the same tasks over and over again. There's no variation to this sim, you're just being the driver. You can't be a guard, dispatcher, ticket inspector or anything else, in fact they don't even exist in this sim. The whole enviroment feels dead and unintersting. And don't forget if you're bored of driving one route you're free to buy some of the ridiculously overpriced DLC, which of course is full of bugs too. The railways is about so much more than this game can offer, and for the price given I can't recommend it.

In any case, it is the same game with some improvements, physics do feel more realistic, some graphical anomalies are fixed but also obvious remaining issues (stupid passenger behavior, station displays non-functioning).
Now I was just playing the 'Ice and Rain' scenario and I decided I had to leave a positive review. The atmosphere and visuals commanding the train from Cologne to Aaachen at 250km/h (155mph) in pouring rain are incredible. The sound of the rain pelting down on the canopy, the wipers going full speed, the train tracks ahead disappearing in the distance in a subtle fog, trees, homes and bridges flying by, so awesome! It's really an unmatched atmosphere and I'm looking forward to what's to come in this series.
TSW is like therapy, a great way to relax and escape from the 2020 real world of insanity all around us.

TSW2 has the Bakerloo Line and it´s well represented, the only thing I don´t like is that you cannot program the annunciator panel. So. no announcements like WoS3 which in my opinion diminishes the inmerssion.
Aside from that, it looks great and sounds great.

This developer is seriously incompetent. They just aren't able to produce an optimised simulation. My PC far exceeds the recommended system requirements for the game, yet, like everyone else, I still get regular pauses (the game just freezes for a fraction of a second) & significant fps dips causing the game to stutter at certain points on the Bakerloo line.
If they knew how to fix the problem they would have done it by now. It's clearly just beyond them and that's embarrassing.
And this isn't a new engine, as advertised. It's exactly the same game as TSW 1 with minor tweaks.
Such a shame a more competent developer hasn't done something like this.
