INFOS BESCHAFFEN
Ein guter Dieb beobachtet sein Ziel. Was ist drin? Wer lebt dort? Was macht dein Ziel jeden
Tag?
In jedem Haus findest du
SEI VORSICHTIG
Sei vorsichtig! In manchen Häusern kannst du auf unerwartete Gäste treffen. Wenn sie dich
schnappen sollten, werden sie die Polizei rufen. In diesem Falle solltest du dich verstecken

Sehr schwer: Achtung Spoiler. Besonderes in der gegend Industrial mit 5 Sicherheitsmännern, vielen Kameras, Besitztümer im Haus, Hacken. Kann es schwer werden ohne erwischt zu werden raus zu kommen.

Poor optimisation, janky physics, and odd gameplay design choices...
However, despite all that, this game still manages to be a fun way to spend some time now and then.
If you do decide to pick it up, get it on sale.

The game concepts and mechanics are fun, but you'll quickly be done with it as there is nothing else to scale into - no greater goals or challenges besides a minimally small town to rob.
I've waiting for a few years for it to be updated into a game, but with the last updates of any significance in 2019, this game is done.
In its current (finished) state I'd pay maximum $5 for it.

1: The graphics. I'm not the kind of person to care about graphics but if it matters to you: To put it simply, they are utterly hideous even on maximum quality.
Nowhere is this more apparent than the half-baked, boring, bare minimum effort afterthought slog of a car disassembly minigame. The 3D models in it look like default unity assets from 2012. In one particular car, the clutch friction disc is clipped through the engine block.
I took some screenshots of the amazing models here, keep in mind these were taken on the absolute maximum quality the game had:
https://steamcommunity.com/profiles/76561198121680161/screenshots/appid=704850&sort=newestfirst&browsefilter=myfiles&view=imagewall
I mean come on, car mechanic simulator 2014 had significantly better graphics.
This wouldn't really be justification for a negative review if there wasn't the massive, huge, gigantic, dealbreaking issue of:
2: The AI. A good AI enemy is instrumental for a good stealth game. Thief Simulator does not have a good AI enemy.
In Thief Simulator, the AI have the hearing of an owl, the eyesight of the hubble space telescope, the situational awareness of a supergenius, the reaction time of a fruit fly and there is no difficulty setting for them.
Little old grandma Gladys WILL hear you open her bedroom drawer a little too quickly on the other end of the house upstairs through at least 5 solid brick walls while slamming music full blast out of their twin speaker setup, and she WILL call the police over it without a second thought.
The tenants WILL notice if their front gate was unlocked and WILL call the police over it without a second thought.
The pedestrians outside WILL see you walking around inside of someone's house through a window covered by a curtain and they WILL call the police over it without a second thought.
If that wasn't bad enough, the police has a response time of seconds. Yes, SECONDS. The police cars will spawn 1 second after they are called, and you have about 20 to find a hiding spot before the marathon runner officers sprint full speed towards your exact location while phasing through wooden doors, brick walls and thin air alike and hit you with their magical long range, instant kill, 100% accurate taser.
They will also know that the brown hatchback driving down the road that the 911 caller didn't even see was indeed responsible for the reported burglary on the other side of the neighborhood that they have not even arrived to yet, and ram into you resulting in an instant game over.
The core gameplay loop of Thief Simulator is fun and addicting but completely ruined by hideous graphics, glaring bugs, and terrible AI. Only buy it on sale if you're certain that you can put up with this unfinished mess.

What it does well:
The game does a great job at making you feel like a common burglar. You can't just stroll into the first house you see and walk out with a fortune. Once you choose which house you want to rob, you have spend some time looking around from outside. Can you break the fence? Do they leave any windows open? Maybe you can climb a drain pipe and get in through the balcony. And where are the tenants? Do they ever leave the house empty? Can you get in when they're asleep?
Ok, so you planned everything and made it into the house. You can only carry so much weight, so you have to make sure you grab the most valuable stuff and hope it's not too heavy. That TV looks pricey, but you can't carry something so big in your backpack. Can you make it to your car with it before the tenants catch you and without attracting the attention of any pedestrians on the street?
That feeling is what this game does best. As you level up and get new skills you can carry more and get new tools but robbing a house never becomes a trivial task.
What leaves a lot to be desired:
There's barely a story, but it somehow still manages to drag on. The AI is pretty bad and it often gets stuck preventing them from being where they should, which if it happens in the wrong place it can really screw you over. Your movement is limited, slow and clunky, and this game might feature the most pathetic jump in videogame history.
But by far my biggest issue with the game is the way it ranks up the challenge as you get into more difficult neighborhoods. It adds guards, more complicated house layouts, and less forgiving tenant schedules, which is all well and good. But then on top of that it starts taking options away from you. Certain tools like microcameras and glasscutters become completely pointless in the late game because instead of making them harder to utilize the game straight up stops giving you any chance to use them. You get new tools and skills, but you often end up restricted to just one or two ways of getting in or out of a house anyway, so instead of feeling like you're improving as a thief it just feels like you're barely keeping up.
A good stealth game should always prioritize giving the player as many options as possible to overcome any given challenge, and this is where Thief Simulator falls short.
Conclusion:
Overall, it's a good but far from perfect game. Most of the issues with it are due to their low budget, which is perfectly understandable. In my opinion, it's very much worth it if you can get it relatively cheap.

Pros:
- Fun to sneak around
- Fun to discover tenant routines, loot locations, etc
- Fun to sell stolen goods, develop your skills, unlock new gear, upgrade your stuff
- There's a good level of rising tension as you collect more and more loot, go deeper into a property and the potential losses become greater. I would compare the feeling to Dark Souls, when you went a long way without saving.
Cons:
- Obviously low budget game made by very small team (although they should be commended for their efforts)
- Taking cars apart to sell parts takes 20 min and is a boring chore
- Lack of voice acting and narrative (who is the protagonist? what does he want? what are his thoughts? did he ever own a kitten? does he like durian? I want to know!! Jk, nobody likes durian)
- Poor AI pathifinding, half the time I can avoid police if I hide in a random corner, but sometimes they teleport through walls (even the police car!!) Passers-by sometimes converge at the exit of the property you broke into. They just travel in circles around and around, making it impossible to go unnoticed.
All in all I think this is a good game that could be made great given the proper resources and attention to detail.
I highly recommend it!

Way more fun than I expected, and I'm not done with it yet.
My friends know that I never venture out of my comfort zone with games. For the last 6 years, the only games that have stayed on my Recently Played list on my profile are Insurgency and Rocksmith. Literally nothing else. Despite my better judgement, I keep buying games, but it seems like they never really grab me and pull me in. But somehow, Thief Simulator managed to do just that.
At first look, when I saw this game on Steam, it honestly looked like one of those asset flip games. You know, the kind that BigFry shits on in his YouTube videos. The type of games where the developer grabbed a few blueprints, mixed in some assets, and made it work just well enough to edit a trailer out of it. So I saw the game on Steam awhile ago, thought it looked cool, but never pulled the trigger because the graphics didn't really do it justice. None of my friends seemed to be playing it, so I didn't wanna take any chances and moved on. Then I saw a VTuber (don't judge me!) playing it. The actual gameplay looked fun so I grabbed it, and so far I've thrown about 10 hours into the game in a matter of days. It's that good.
Lots of games have cool mechanics, but they introduce them in a way that I frankly don't have the patience for. Tutorials are boring and forced, but Thief Sim does a great job of simply guiding you along your first missions with some hints and stuff and it gets you going without getting in the way. After you understand the mechanics of the game, or even before if you want... it's all free-roam GTA style. You can break into any house you want, steal stuff... or not. You can go in all stealthy when they aren't home, or rush in after smashing a window and make off with whatever you can before the cops arrive. It's all up to you.
What surprised me is every time I felt like I was nearing the end of the game, and I already felt like I got my money's worth... it would drop some big new thing on me to explore. First it was the ability to steal cars from peoples garages. Then it was a whole new neighborhood. Then it was disassembling cars so the the parts can be sold at a higher price. Disabling home security systems, and so on. This game is very well thought out and keeps giving surprises.
I usually don't review games before I finish them, but I wanted to recommend this game while it's still on sale. Knowing what I know now, it's totally worth $20... but I think $20 puts it out of the range of impulse buys for most people, me included.
There is a short list of things I don't like, but it's not big enough of a deal to detract from the fun aspects of the game.
- It has a little input lag when I move my mouse. I'm getting high frames with my 8700k/GTX1080, but it feels like there's some delay when I look around. But since this isn't an action game and it relies on strategy instead of aiming, it doesn't impact gameplay at all.
- Disassembling cars is a chore. Granted I'm not done the game yet so there might be a skill or tool to unlock, but clicking on every bolt of every component to remove it (like Car Mechanic Simulator) feels like it's taking me away from my thieving for way longer than it should. The stripping down of cars is cool, but it gets repetitive. I personally just sell the vehicles while fully assembled. Maybe there's a impact gun in the game somewhere and I haven't unlocked it yet.
- Little odds and ends stuff. I wish I could drive directly from one neighborhood to the next, without having to visit Home/Pawn shop first. It would be cool if we could get in our car and start driving by pushing W, instead of looking down at the ignition and pressing E first. That kinda stuff, nothing game breaking.

If you get caught, 80% of the time you don't know why and can't act accordingly. Is it because you left a window open? Well I couldn't close the window from the inside because the window is unreachable(So I have to go outside, close the window, blocking my only entry point to the house). Did I left the front door open? Well I closed it and erased my presence but as soon as the tenants leave the house they decide to call the cops anyways.
Because of numerous incomprehensible AI rules, playing this game ends up more frustrating than entertaining. You're better off playing other stealth games

I will say however there are lots of flaws that needs to be addressed because they take away from the game.
ill start with the pros and cons, then explain the things.
pros:
-detailed simulator game with a functional scaling challenging story.
-capable of customizing your hideout/home with the goods you boosted.
-the tools you use are all their own mini-game.
-game loading is pretty decent considering all the resources in each property.
cons:
-AI pathing is too linear and sometimes get stuck or walk through closed doors.
driving is not smooth. understandably the game was not built around driving... but when you hit the brakes and turn, it loses steering normality.
-when customizing your home/hideout there is complications when you look down and if you crouch to place items on the bottom shelf, it just doesnt work and i have to resort to throwing it from a distance into it.
-AI are DUMB. their alert intervals are short when you make noises, so you can break toilets, sinks, dishes, whatever you wanted within a short time. even leaving drawers and windows open doesn't appear to bother them when they are looking directly at it.
-police NEVER check hiding spots... soon as police are called you can just dip dive into any hiding closet or dumpster and they just run around aimlessly and give up in minutes.
critical encounters:
Items seem rushed when made. as if different people scripted items and combined them without testing for flaws...
Some items when you hang them on the walls rotate on the wrong axis, some items can not be placed and only dropped inches from your face (annoying when i want to decorate with it),
some items when placed are not flush and end up several centimeters through the floor or placed into the ceiling... and some fall through floors and can not be retrieved and require a restart. some items when placed on the work bench become unretreivable too.
-at end game the textures of the damage in the mansion are gritty and don't align properly with their placement giving the undamaged and damaged flicker when you look around.
-some walls in hideout won't let anything hang on them.
I would like to see the game make all items fixed and tested and fully can be used to decorate your crib with all your klepto needs. the clunky clipping through wall item placements and restrictions make end game frustrating. I don't need to really buy or sell much anymore so i just want to adorn it with at least 1 of everything to satisfy my klepto collection.
despite these negative impacts, I still very much like the game and want to continue playing around with it. I just would like to see these issues fixed and had this game tested more before release.
the game was on discount when i bought it, and i'd say yeah it was worth the purchase.

There isn't much to the story. It would have been nice if they gave more information on your employer and why you were supposed to steal from certain individuals. It just felt like, do this, and don't ask why.
If an npc has a stun gun, they're a sniping legend. They never miss a shot, can shoot from a fairly far distance, and even through vehicles, railings, and some kinds of floors. When I say vehicles, I mean if you try to hide behind one, they'll tag you easily. Also, they have the ability to shoot you through your car windows when you're driving too.
That said, the main balance in your favor is that if you can get to a hiding spot without them seeing you hide, you'll be fine. It would also have been nice if residents noticed more was amiss in their homes outside of tampered locks and windows.
There's a NG+ feature to this game, but no real reason to do it. There's supposed to be a new item to use, but I felt one play through was enough, so I don't intend to check that out.
Anyway, still a fun game. I enjoyed the grind it offered. Best to get on a sale.

Even though it feels a little buggy, unfinished and beta like...
I have rather enjoyed it, Stealth elements are rather enjoyable.
Using tools of the trade in order to gain better loot and earn more money, breaking into peoples houses like a boss and not getting in strife for doing it... IRL
It's a unique experience, i highly recommend giving it a go!

Not so smooth criminal
The world of simulation games is something that always eluded me. It is full of absurdly specific titles - e.g. you can think of any construction machine and there is likely a simulation game dedicated exclusively to it. Most of these games are made with a shoestring budget and they are unanimously niche by design. Then again, in defiance of the odds, widely popular titles such as Euro Truck Simulator, rise above the competition through mix of quality and painstaking attention to detail. At the polar opposite of the spectrum there is Goat Simulator and similar titles, that mock the simulation convention to add a whole new kind of bizarre into the mix. Thief Simulator is stuck somewhere in-between. If you have ever wanted to play a more realistic alternative to Payday 2, Thief Simulator is an illegitimate child of this idea.
Pick up the phone
The player takes control of the protagonist, known simply as “the thief” as he enters his very first job – breaking into an abandoned cabin and stealing a few bucks. Thief Simulator presents the player with a much more down-to-earth side of the criminal activity. No armed bank robberies to make the newspaper headlines in this game. You are the kind of thug that gets hired to jump over the fence and break someone’s garden gnomes. There will be plenty of break-ins to go around, as the thief is bailed out of jail by local mafia with a sole purpose of becoming their latest errant boy. Not only you have to start from square one, you are indebted to the wrong people until they say otherwise.
This is as far as story goes in Thief Simulator, as the “plot” is essentially a walkthrough guide, weirdly integrated into the game itself. The story keeps giving the player tasks, that if followed, provide a smoothly progressing chain of ever more difficult robberies. Except it goes down to the details such as forcing the player to unlock a skill that will be mandatory for completing the job that follows. Furthermore, the game gives these “hints” at the specific moment when you have the necessary amount of experience. The player is free to divert from the story at any moment, though only after completing roughly a third of the game you have the means to make an actual use of said freedom.
Breaking and entering
Thief Simulator plays across 3 districts of comparable size each filled with a myriad of different locations (and safety measures) for the player to deal with. The abandoned cabin from the start quickly becomes a distant memory, as houses with reinforced windows and cameras take its place, later followed by luxurious mansions with guards on duty. Naturally, fancier security equals a better loot inside. Granted the player is able to enter the place. A trusty lockpick can only take you so far - safecracking tools, a hacking laptop, a van capable of transporting more loot, this is where most of the money is invested.

Frankly, the game provides a very limited choice about how to strike, as many locations have only a single viable way in. Instead, the player is expected to focus on the timing. Significant part of the game is simply scouting the place and learning the tenants habits. When do they sleep, when do they leave or when do the guards change their patrol route as to allow you to make an exit.
An idea decent enough on paper, is somewhat mudded by an underwhelming execution. It is abundantly clear that Thief Simulator is hardly a pinnacle of gaming technology. This is especially true for residents behaviour, with their jerky and plain bugged movement. Many of them do not navigate their houses very well, with some of them flatout teleporting to another room (or right on top of you) once a shift in daily routine is supposed to take place.
Task failed successfully
One way or another, the player will inevitably get detected at some point. There is no combat in Thief Simulator – the most action you will see is getting shot with a taser. Once burglary is discovered, the only options are to hide or run. Each district is surrounded by a green border – if things get hot, getting past the line means a successful escape. Hiding gives far less predictable results. At times the police can track the player down like bloodhounds, despite the alarm being raised on the other end of the mansion. If you do manage to flee, the boys in the blue will never follow the thief. Instead the player will gain notoriety. If you were detected too many times in an area, the cops will first respond faster, and then may even end up patrolling the place. Luckily, the effect does fade with time.
Based on how stealthy the player had been and how much loot was lifted, a rank is given once you return to your hideout. The highest rating of “S!” is worth the hassle as it comes with the highest experience multiplier. That said, having completed the game twice I still have no idea how exactly the rating system works. Rating of B for lifting a decent loot despite being detected by police does make perfect sense, getting an S! under these circumstances does not, and both happened repeatedly.

Bluntly put, Thief Simulator isn’t a very good game. Mix of low budget and limited technology, makes for a concoction that will be unbearable for many. In spite of this, the gameplay loop is fairly solid, and can be enjoyable when the game works as intended. The title even received a major update past its release, adding an entire third district. That said, Industrial part of the city is nowhere near to the standard of the first two. It is inhabited exclusively by guards, with no street traffic of any kind. Their detection routines are fairly absurd as they either loose you behind a corner or instantly tase you through concrete walls. Rather than being an ultimate challenge, the area is easier than many residences of previous Richie St.
On the other hand, there are instances when the developers weren’t even trying. The most out-of-place part of the game is the car dismantling. Once stolen, you can take the car to your hideout and suddenly find yourself amidst ludicrously detailed procedure that has you split the car to atoms one screw at a time. All that for 6 cars present in the game. Naturally, this part of the game is by no means related to Car Mechanic Simulator 2018 by the same publisher, advertised in the very menu of the game. Anyone claiming otherwise is a liar and should be ashamed of themselves.
Ultimately, I did enjoy Thief Simulator. It’s in many ways a game equivalent of a bad horror movie. They are fun every once in a while if you have a taste for such a thing. Despite its many shortcomings, Thief Simulator does stand out among its simulator brethren thanks to unusual premise. The execution may not be ideal, on the other hand I can’t quite recall any other game trying to portray a more realistic take on the life of crime. While I do give the game a pass mark I can’t quite recommend it in clean conscience. If you have 15+ hours to spare and enjoy the peculiar charm which mediocre titles can have, you can slip right into the thieves’ boots. Otherwise, approach the game at your own discretion, and preferably on sale.

I only played 63 hours because of having to start again 4-5 times to get the new story content, additionally there are issues and bugs regarding the different game modes, something else the developer ignores if you report them. I have reported these issues several times in the past so I feel as though I have to give a negative review if the developer is not interested in dealing with some simple fundamental issues with the game that ultimately ruins the fun of the game play through having to restart so much.
As a positive note the game play is very enjoyable it's worth picking up on sale but just be in mind you may have to start again many times over. Perhaps in a few years it won't matter when content updates have stopped. On a side note I would have otherwise been happy to give this game high markings and a thumbs up but my personal experience with this game has been poor due to the lack of attention form the developer.

The lowest end settings are wayyyy too high quality for a computer that they claim should be able to run it. Way too much going in for a computer with 8 gigs of ram to run properly, even on the lowest possible settings.
DO NOT BUY THIS GAME if you only meet the low end of the specs.
That said, I can absolutely see the appeal of this game if I had, say, 16 gigs of ram so it could actually run.
Again, if your system only meets the minimum requirements THIS GAME IS UNPLAYABLE, but if you have a better PC you're probably in the clear.

follow the story, or dont (but probably do at least once)
bit buggy here and there but still a lot of fun, great range of houses, cars, items and challenges
almost every house has multiple ways of getting in loud and proud or take the sneaky route, i have not finished the game but already bought the VR version and i cant wait to play that
9/10

The game starts pretty strong. Skill progression can be slow at first, but it becomes less of a problem as you go, and while houses are somewhat similar (And there certainly is repetition as far as general layout of the house goes), there is enough changes to keep it fresh.
While one of the strengths of the game is the possibility of having multiple approaches for each house, this only happens in the first third of the game. Given that the game allows/pushes you to master every skill, this element gradually disappears and you end up constantly being funneled into a single approach for every house.
This problem is compounded by the IA. Throughout the second half, the game starts adding increasing numbers of security guards who, unlike the tenants, are much bigger threat. Problem is, the IA is not up to par for either of them, but putting them as an active obstacle makes the issues all the more obvious. You can get constant notifications of being heard by the tenants/guards, but they do not react at all most of the time. Their field of view is always facing forwards (Even while making an idle animation in which they briefly look behind them) and they seem to have no peripheral vision whatsoever. In addition, their capacity for noticing burglarized items (e.g Open/Hacked doors) is inconsistent to the point I think the IA pretty much flips a coin when checking. This gets into straight up comedic territory when you realize that if you are standing in a roof or any place that cannot be accessed by walking, you are invulnerable, even when the guard is looking straight at you and knows you are there. Therefore, as you progress, particularly in the last third, the main strategy devolves into exploiting the IA glitches more than anything, which makes it rather immersion-breaking and all around unenjoyable. And don't even get me started on the uncanny ability of tasing you through literal walls.
Other questionable element is how big items are handled. As I understand, big items (Which are cumbersome to carry, can be seen by bystanders and you can only carry a limited amount in your vehicle) are a high risk-high reward alternative, which is balanced by their higher value compared to small items. Problem is, this is only true in the first neighborhood. From there onwards, the game proceeds to completely contradict this by reducing the value difference between both kinds of items (To the point of small items being worth more than large items in the lategame), increasing your carry capacity for small items (Which is obviously going to motivate you to go for small items) and placing security guards (That require you to be mobile, which you won't be if you are lugging a heavy item). I understand that the game was developed by a small team, and I'm willing to cut it some slack in the technical departments, but this is something inexcusable from a design perspective.
In addition, given that the average value of items grows by an order of magnitude between each stage; once you have all the thief tools, there is nothing else to buy (Other than furniture/wallpapers for your hideout, that are dirt cheap), so you end up quickly swamped with money and do not even have the incentive of actually doing the one thing you are supposed to be doing in this game, unless you want to do it for the challenge.
I really wanted to like this game, and I am willing to give another chance if the developers decide to make a sequel; but I can't recommend this one.

Once, when playing Fallout 3, I walked across the wasteland overburdened -for an hour- because I didn't want to leave any delicious loot behind. Yes, it was a waste of time. Yes, it was completely irrational hoarding for virtual bottle caps and sweet armor sets to hang in the closet. I don't regret it one bit.
In the week that I've owned Thief Simulator, I've logged 24 hours and I'm not even done yet - it's safe to say that I highly enjoy this game and it speaks to the kleptomaniac in me. In no way is that an endorsement to steal from anyone in the real world - stuff is extremely precious, if somewhat meaningless, so if you want it, go earn it honestly. Subject matter aside, it should appeal to any fan of stealth games (played the Thief series yet?) and it - unfortunately for some - does require a bit of patience, though admittedly not the kind of patience that would have someone lugging power armor across the desert for an hour.
The goal, of course, is to break into homes and later buildings with varying security strength and steal whatever you can without being seen. There's no combat in Thief Simulator, so be mindful that there is no sneaking up behind people and blackjacking them. Instead, you need to observe the residents of the houses you want to pilfer, wait for them to be out of their homes, and then it's go time. At least, that's the ideal situation. As you progress in the game, you'll need to be bolder and braver as eventually you'll find that not everyone conveniently leaves their place unattended and they might be in the very next room while you pinch their precious phones.
At your disposal are handy tools with which to burgle your neighbors, but you'll need to start small and work your way up to the handier ones. Part of the fun is the progression system in place that open up your skillset at a steady pace. As you come back to your hideout with pockets full of loot, each item will reward you XP that you can spend on improving the thief. While he will always have trouble jumping over a knee-high planter, he'll eventually be climbing up gutters and hacking away at alarms and cameras. By the time you hit the ceiling, you'll be feeling like nothing can keep you from getting in.
It's not all a bed of roses, mind you. While the graphics are serviceable, they are not going to blow your mind as all the NPCs are cookie-cutter clones of each other (though there is a decent variety), light sources tend to bleed through floors and walls, and everyone shops at the same furniture store. Though I'm sure there are specific reasons behind the AI freaking out, sometimes they seem to become alerted for no reason at all. While that might not actually be true, sometimes it's difficult to figure out exactly where you went wrong. And like I said before, the Thief has a jumping problem like getting stuck on stairs or defying all logic and being stopped by a barrier nobody would have any problem clearing... also, he can drop down three storeys and not feel a thing (good for escaping, but silly nevertheless).
The good news, however, is that all of that is negligible in the face of the fun to be had simply sneaking around and taking all the big-ticket items. There's a narrative that serves more to keep you progressing to higher challenges rather than being any kind of engaging thrill and if you just stick to it, you'll blow through the game in no time. Rather, it's way more fun to simply spend the time to return to places repeatedly and ensure you've picked out every unique (e.g. it doesn't respawn), usually-expensive item. Don't worry about the NPCs; their feelings won't be hurt as they will eventually just go back to watching TV where there isn't one anymore. Not only does clearing a place out net you big cash rewards, it's also key to completing the 'want list' that some shady characters are posting on your computer at home, which nets you even bigger cash rewards for things that might not give you squat. A clear example here is stealing and collecting Christmas presents which the pawn shop won't even look at, but gather a set and you can get a few thousand bucks from some weirdo on the Internet.
At first I thought this game would be small and limited as indie games tend to have smaller scopes, but I was extremely pleased to note that the game just kept opening up. Not only was I able to learn new abilities and get niftier toys to play with, I was pleasantly surprised to see that a whole other neighborhood opened up when I was expecting to be working with only one. And then it got even better with another area even later on, not to mention upgrading your car, your home, etc. Speaking of cars, you can steal them and also strip them for parts! While your YMMV on exactly how much fun that is (it's admittedly pretty wonky and a bit dry), the fact that it's in there at all is pretty awesome.
All in all, I've had and and will continue to have a fantastic time with this game. I can't say it's for everyone, though, so be mindful of its requirement for a patient player. Time ticks at about a game minute per real second and the key to success, especially in the later areas you visit, requires observing the patrols and marking them, figuring out routes, avoiding cameras, experimenting with each different layout, and sometimes getting caught. You don't go to jail, you don't take a cash penalty - you start at the last checkpoint, which is quite often the first time you got out of the car; if you've been staking out a place and didn't go home to save the game, all that info (and time you spent gathering it) is lost. A good chunk of my time played was spent setting up my escape (big items can't be pocketed and need to be carried out to the car) only to make some stupid mistake and get tazed. Like I said, patience is a virtue. If you can handle that deliberate, tactical kind of experience, then you will absolutely love this game.
