„You're not as bad as everyone says you are.“
Gameplay
„I hope you find what you're looking for.“
Technische Probleme
Fazit:
„I'll see you around ... Wolf.“

Vielleicht das beste Telltale-Game? | 8/10
The Wolf Among Us ist ein klassisches Point-and-Klick-Adventure mit typischer Telltale-Entscheidungslogik.

While their WalkingDead games are great on their own, this has more creative agency that permeates throughout the experience. Not to say WD is uncreative, yet the zombie apocalypse narrative is a constant we've had for years, and one that won't truly ever go away. At most I find the relationship between Lee and Clementine to be the most interesting. While other characters of that series has a point, the central focus is those two without a doubt. So it's good, just not my thing. As well comparing the two, Wolf Among Us just objectively has a unique idea that while has been done before, hasn't been done as often or at the very least hasn't been done very well often. That is, blending fantasy creatures with a more modern civilization vibe.
While you play as 'the big bad wolf' of fables of old, and despite being grounded in a mix of real life and fairytale atmosphere, all the characters feel human even when they clearly aren't. Not only is it a detective narrative, it can be of a redemption arc, or a grim dive into how ruthless one can be on personal goals for answers, and the cost of being uncaring of others. The adventure is not only finding answers to the mystery at large, but it's also about defining how to act during hard trials. Trials that would make others into worse versions of themselves, now matter how well intended they are. Or an exercise into wanting to be the worst person ever if you wish lol.
While WD has characters that sometimes ultimately feel like throw'aways to me, here, it feels like everyone matters. Be their roles minor or not. What makes this stand out to me is how heartfelt it all is, and how cunning the forces you're put against are. As well, the overall atmosphere and tone.
Speaking of tone, the music, a phenomenal mix of classic instruments and synth balancing a distinct dance of being fantastical and depressing. Often bringing focus to many things properly, or bringing that serious somber but we can get things done kind of vibe. As well, I believe it takes place in 80s or 90s, so you'll be hard pressed to find many things of a techy nature.
Wolf Among Us is like being stuck in the rain by yourself, for a time. You feel alone, things don't feel right, you light a cigarette or enjoy whatever vice to whatever small degree you could while the world phases out you even exist, up until you're taken in by the company of someone unexpected, unsure to turn them away for knowing the hurt of trusting prior, but knowing you can't do things alone.
It's a narrative journey that will make you feel alone, but the same time not. On your way to uncovering what is going on hurting others, you'll find very realistic examples of struggle even fairytale characters will endure such as price inflation for things needed to keep their lives the way they want, addictions to things they know they must stop but are ultimately alone, or their attempts to recapture the past that made them so happy but are now a somber long distant dream losing themselves to their fears.
This game won't change your life likely, but, it'll make you think a lot about stuff. How you treat folk around you, how to act better in some cases, or to maybe understand some folk better.
Cause at the end of it all, you don't have to be as bad as folk think you are. Even yourself.

Natural Order
In Poetics, Aristotle wrote that all drama must include six elements - plot, character, thought, diction, music, and spectacle. And he was also clear that this was their traditional order of importance. Specifically, he was referring to the contemporary tragedies of his day. While 300 B.C. most certainly predates the origin of video games, the most successful video games will also, echoing Aristotle, have included his tenants. The main difference being that in drama you are an observer; in video games you are the protagonist. You have ultimate control. Or, at the very least, own the illusion of it.
https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=1437838416
The ordering Aristotle’s elements still exists in video games, but by giving up narrative control to the player they end up varying widely in their significance and resonance. So, while Aristotle might not have much in common with Fortnite, for instance, he does with The Wolf of Among Us.
Telltale was simply following narrative structure 2,300 years in the making.
Our Reluctant Repentant
The Wolf Among Us is a prequel to Bill Willingham’s hugely successful comic book series Fables. The comic book, and subsequent video game follows the narrative of famous fairytale and folklore characters whose stories have been passed down over generations. Many of which were eventually made legendary by Disney (Snow White, Beauty and The Beast, etc.). The Fables, as they are called, have fled war in their shared homeland to New York City and established a (not so) tight-knit community in Manhattan's Upper West Side. And had Bigby (The Big Bad Wolf) installed as the sheriff of their self-dubbed Fabletown.
From there, the player (and occasional observer), takes control of Sherriff Bigby. The inciting incident is homicide. The player is given the task of solving a particularly gruesome murder, which subsequently shakes up the mundane life of Fabletown’s denizens. And Bigby is a reluctant hero in the best of times. Made even more reluctant depending on the player’s selection of dialogue and action choices.
Having previously been The Big Bad Wolf, and the current sheriff, creates a paradoxical axe for the community to grind. Fabletown has spent most of their lives in fear of The Big Bad Wolf after all. Some of the residents have had relatives mutilated (or eaten) by the very person which they must not rely upon for their protection. A man-bites-dog, who-watches-the-watchman story sets the narrative up nicely to explore the themes The Wolf Among Us is interested in: redemption and hypocrisy.
The player is repeatedly forced to leverage violent expediency and thoughtful restraint. And then selecting when it is most appropriate for Bigby to pivot from one side of the scale to the other. And there’s no right answer for Bigby. The player, by the nature of the story beats, will feel like they make mistakes.
Feeling damned is part of the game.
Hungry Passivity
The gameplay is replete with the same mechanics we have come to expect from modern adventure games. The style that found footing in early Lucas Arts point-and-click adventure titles, is repackaged via the modern Telltale formula here (The Walking Dead, Tales from the Borderlands). The gameplay entirely centers around dialogue options to choose from, points of interest in the environment to click on, and twitchy QTE elements to fill action set pieces. And it’s great because the narrative is strong enough to hide the gameplay’s passivity.
https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=2649568039
It's true that the fear with this style is that it intrinsically relies on an invested “audience member” (player) to be entertained with what the story has on offer. Which means the story has no choice but to be excellent. Otherwise, it just doesn’t work. And maybe that’s not even good enough. Because if the player does not believe that clicking on objects will provide sufficiently entertaining story candy, then suddenly the formula is no longer sustainable. The player would sooner or later become conscience of how little “playing” they’re actually doing. Tapping buttons repeatedly to avoid a game over screen can do that.
So, it is a good thing everything is so damn interesting. But . . .
There is a fraction of consumers that would assuredly be alienated by this style of video game. Like most adventure games, it is difficult to recommend unless you know that the user has the capacity to care about plot within the context of a video games. Basically, if you play video games for the thrill of your keyboard inputs, you’ll be left wanting. If the thrill is on the screen, you’ll be fine. It’s just important to be clear on this point – do not play this game if you are someone who is indifferent to plotting in games.
Hell or Something Like it
Fabletown leaks unpleasant ambiance. Everything feels gross, sticky, and perverse. A concrete hellscape. A city of steaming streets made steamier amid a literal, and figurative, heatwave. Tall, oppressive buildings stand as macabre, black watchtowers pressing their citizens in. Everything feels slightly askew and incorrect. It is a world set alight in neon signs, wired with hate and mistrust. Everything is purple and black. And underneath it all, an ominous soundtrack washes its way over you. Its dread-inducing beat pulses soft reverberations of anxiety. You feel it. Whispers of “get the hell out” or “run or die” are strangely absent, but you can feel them all the same.
Fabletown is a world you can lose yourself in.
Tonally, it is as impressive as it is important. And it proves that good plotting, characters, music and setting in a linear title can still do just as much to make the player feel connected to the world as any popular RPG could. In fact, if done right, it can be preferable.
https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=2649568684
Your journey through Skyrim or Fallout is dictated almost entirely by your curiosity. That’s true. But while those games are extensions of your fantasy, The Wolf Among Us incorporates player choice through the parameters of its own (already fascinating) Bigby. While the player can certainly play Bigby via their own moral compass, in actuality they’re simply layering emotional depth to a character that can be defined without them.
Simply put, a Skyrim character is an empty avatar waiting for you to make them real; Bigby is a character waiting for you to make him more nuanced. It’s a co-op between the author and the player. A synthesis of the best each has to offer. And that’s why it’s so damn fun to play, even when constrained by all of its genre’s unactionable action, and non-choice choices.
Angels Fighting Demons
The Wolf Among Us is a story about us. And it demands introspection to unlock all its strangely humanistic complexities. To understand the grime of Fabletown, one has to look in the mirror and ask hard questions like: Is redemption truly possible? And which hypocritical sycophant is the one that gets to hold the gavel?
It is easy to give up, or in Bigby’s case give in, with a world this bleak. And that is the real struggle of the player. To hold the rage in. The player will need to carefully consider Bigby within the framework of Fabletown. And its imaginary society with its fake rules and false friends.
And perhaps, with a lot of struggle, not reveal what others have already expected . . .
There is a wolf among us.

The story was amazing but I think that the choices and the differences that could happen were a bit weak.
If this game was longer and had more choices and more logical consequences it could be a 10/10, but for now it's a 9/10!

Soundtrack in this game is just great dark and gloomy fill with unsolved things going on
There are a lot of choice to make in this game some choices will turn out different But there will consequences in the end depends what on your actions not the same like the walking dead it just don't give you more open options
cons
had some weird rare blank text pop up in the game just to go back to main menu
How did Bigby pay for taxi i though he was broke need some explaining?
I would recommend playing game if you are into a disney dark story

Why The Wolf Among Us is a 'must play'?
With a story set in a fictional scenario having gritty plots with a constant dark and serious tone which revolves around a crime investigation makes The Wolf Among Us a unique experience. What appears as an investigation tale in Fabletown becomes more as you keep on investigating and picking up on leads, it all becomes about finding the bigger picture. The story hooks you up right after episode one and as you keep on completing every episode it becomes more and more deep.I would say that personally I dint find episodes 3 and 4 as engaging as others ,still they were fun to play through but some of the parts became a chore to complete but the build up to the finale and the final episode(5) was so good and gave such a perfect ending that all of it became worth it.
The reason because the story hooks you so much is because its so well-written and perfectly paced, yeah there is some predictability here and there but its not too jarring, the execution is so well that even if you predicted somethings still seeing them pan out in the game will not bore you out .For the rest parts I have nothing but praises for it, investigating your case is so engaging because there is always an element of surprise in it, often you find out a new clue to something that connects things to a bigger picture and leaves you with a feeling of 'there is something more going on here' this game perfectly preserves the suspense that it always keeps you indulged in the story. It presents the story in a way that you will never find who was right or wrong till the end and till then you will be only acting on your instincts, you will often face a dilemma to make decisions and put blame on other characters and in execution of conundrums is where The Wolf Among Us shines.
Bigby is a strong protagonist who is trying to leave his past behind but often stumbles into the darkness of it and it's on you, the player, to make choices which can either make him that 'bad' guy again or can develop his character into a better person, the fact that you keep on developing his character throughout the game by choices you make is absolutely an amazing thing to participate in.All the side characters are too amazingly written and while some them can be forgettable but majority of them are interesting and compliment the uniqueness and eloquence of the story.
The art style is truly awesome, I have no other words to describe it, watching Bigby walking on the neon bathed busy streets having a cigarette lit up is just a vibe of its own and it is coupled with an amazing Dark 80s synth music which makes the presentation just perfect.
Seriously if you enjoy playing narrative driven games, you owe yourself to experience the unique tale of The Wolf Among Us. The perfect presentation, beautiful execution and suspenseful narrative makes The Wolf Among Us a must play.

The gameplay for this mostly consists of making choices and responding to timed events. During conversations, you'll be given the opportunity to choose between a few dialogue options. Most of these just change the flavor of the conversation, but there are a few bigger choices that will change the plot. Outside of the conversations, you'll occasionally have to walk around a room and pick things up. These don't lead to puzzles, though, as every time you pick up an item you'll need later, it's used for you automatically. There are a few items you'll pick up that will allow certain choices to be made successfully, but it isn't game-ending if you miss them. There are also a few fights/chases, where you'll have to click keys that flash on the screen. If you lose a fight, this can give you a game over, but then you'll just reload the game at the last save point.
I thought the mystery in the game was pretty good. The twists and turns were generally pretty unexpected, so I was never sure quite what was going to happen next, although the game throws a few pretty obvious red herrings at you along the way. Telltale games have a reputation for giving you choices that are mostly cosmetic, or don't really lead anywhere, and while I only played through the game once I kind of got the impression that that was the case here in some places. There were a number of cases where Bigby or the other characters responded to something a little awkwardly, but in a way that would have made more sense with a different dialogue option. Most of the plot also doesn't seem like it would change much, even if you were to make somewhat different choices. However, I'd have to play through it again to be completely sure.
I had a couple of small technical problems with the game. When the game gives you control to walk around, it moves really awkwardly. The business office is especially difficult with this, as the view sometimes flips around really weirdly. Sometimes, the timers during the dialogue screens or fights didn't seem to last quite as long as they were supposed to, since I had a few times where I clicked something only for my response to be ignored. These were both pretty small issues overall though.
Overall, I thought The Wolf Among Us was a pretty good game. While I don't love the Telltale formula, the story here was strong enough to make the game enjoyable. If you like Telltale-style choose-your-own-adventure games and edgy fairy tale reinterpretations this will probably be a good game for you. 7/10

The worldbuilding is quite unique. There is a whole comic series dedicated to the setting (called Fables), and it shows that there is quite some thought behind it. The story itself is good as well. There were some nice plottwists, and it was only until the final episode when I knew who did the killing. Some of the red herrings were a bit too obvious though, and the final episode feels a bit rushed. The dilemmas however are often great. You can play the Big Bad Wolf really as you see fit. I went the somewhat good cop way, but I have seen the option to kill at least 3 characters, and to rip someone's arm off. So enough choice to play the Sherrif as you like I'd say. In some Telltale Games the options in the dilemmas result is totally different things than the option makes you believe, but I did not encounter such a thing in the Wolf Among Us luckely.
The gameplay is what you'd expect of a graphic novel. Choose between some decisions, and occasionally a QTE (quicktime event). It is simplistic, but it works. If you want to play this game, it is for the story and not the gameplay. Since you're playing an 'interactive cutscene'-game, visually the pictures from Steam are what you get. Afaik I've seen no bugs in-game. The resolution was wrong the first time I opened the game, but that is easily changable.
In short: I'd really recommend it for the story and the worldbuilding. Playing as some half-savage police agent was pretty fun, and I'd really like a sequal. However, if you seek deep gameplay, difficult battles or anything like that, this is not the game for you.

Just buy it . I don't know if part 2 is coming, but it's worth the play regardless. The ending to any tell tale series always gives me chills, but this. This is by far something else and I absolutely loved it. While you're at it if you like the game which is a prequel to the comic book series Fables, then give those a read as well. You will not be disappointed.

Telltale games are mostly story & narrative driven and low on game mechanics. However, if you are a fan of storytelling medium & atmospheric soundtrack, this one's a definite great pick. And watch for some twists and surprises. :)
10/10
Edit : Telltale games post revival are planning for a sequel to the story as well. Eagerly waiting.

The story is simple, at least as fairy tale murder mysteries go. See, there hasn’t been a murder in Fabletown in years, but when Bigby Wolf discovers the gory remnant of such a killing on his front step, it’s time to start investigating with the help of his sometimes-partner, sometimes-adversary Snow White. Of course, there are political considerations with the current acting mayor trying to keep his citizens from rioting, and there are other characters (some original to the game) lurking in the shadows, interested in this murder for their own reasons. The killing sets up the five-episode story arc that rapidly takes a couple sharp turns—and even asks you, in a recorded moment of choice, who your primary suspect is near the end of the episode.
There are a number of “battle sequences” that are high-adrenaline, involving a series of quick time events (emphasis on the quick). These battles (sometimes they are pure fights, sometimes pursuits) occur through quick directional keystrokes, plus the occasional single-button-mashing and a semi-precise mouse click thrown in here and there. They are longer and more varied than any such sequence in The Walking Dead and feel more essential to the narrative.
So much of the focus will be, and should be, on the storytelling, but even a compelling story is made better with good graphics and sound, and in these areas Telltale excels as much as ever. The cel-shaded world of Fabletown, New York is brightly colored and heavily stylized in a comic book fashion. The animation is generally good—I love the way the character shadows look, even if they don’t actually have any relevance to where the light source is—but even if it's not technically impressive, the game is always enjoyable to look at with vibrant character models and the lively world they inhabit, where all the interiors of apartments, bars, and offices are full of details that make them really feel lived in. A conversation-driven game must also have believable facial expressions, and as much for the primary human characters as for the alcoholic pig and the disagreeable toad, Telltale nails the match between visible expression and dialogue emotion. The voice acting is truly top-notch; some of the best to be found in modern gaming, with the script so well executed that I legitimately laughed out loud at the dark humor multiple times—something I almost never do while playing a game. It’s not always easy, for some reason, for game designers to execute concepts like character interruption, but the timing and delivery are flawless here. The always reliable Jared Emerson-Johnson again scores the episode with just the right understated mood music, never forcing the soundtrack into an unnecessary point of focus.
This game is peculiarly compelling while being deviously humorous, simultaneously bright and gritty, and always deliriously entertaining.
I loved looking at it, exploring it, and living in this bizarrely imaginative world of Fabletown.

I also feel like your decisions have a much bigger impact on your experience than Telltale's other games. Granted, it essentially ends the same regardless of what you do, with one big decision at the end, but there seem to be more branching paths. The biggest difference is in choosing what locations to sleuth out. You might have three places to investigate and only enough time to investigate two. Or you have to investigate locations A and B, but depending on where you choose to go first, things will play out very differently. Get there early, maybe you can catch a character that otherwise would have escaped. Get there late, maybe you missed an opportunity to save a life. It adds more replayability beyond, like, being nice during one playthrough and being a d!ckwad during the next.
Such a great game

VERDICT:
Most reviews are saying this is on par with the Walking Dead, i'd have to disagree. I wasn't attached to the characters and didn't really mind who I was putting at risk, maybe it was because I was so dedicated to find the killer which for me was the whole point of the season, where as for the Walking Dead it was the matter of survival and living with people who are in the same boat as you.
That being said, this is still a fantastic game and should be played for the story and for some of the decisions. I did stumble across some bugs where I had to restart the game but nothing too serious since the save system was reliable. It's the second best TellTale game I've played to date and there should definitely be a sequel due to how things ended, it's a shame TellTale is out of business.
Total Score = 94/100.

GAMEPLAY:
The Wolf Among Us is a graphic adventure game, played from a third-person perspective. The player controls protagonist Bigby Wolf, who must investigate the murder of a woman. Throughout the game, the player explores various three-dimensional environments, such as apartment buildings and a bar. The player may also talk with non-player characters, and see the conversations presented in the form of dialogue trees.
The dialogue options chosen during conversations would either have a positive or negative effect on how other characters view Bigby, and their perceptions would influence future events in the story. Some scenes are more action-oriented, forcing the player to respond to a series of quick time event (QTE) prompts. The player is not required to complete every QTE prompt, and skipping certain prompts may affect future events in the story.

- I loved the mature version of fable characters and i loved how they used these characters' features in the story to create more diversity.
- Choices do matter in the game and some of the choices are hard to choose.
- Story gets more and more interesting each episode.
- It is an entertaining game with loveable characters and it's a must play imo.
Yeah you should try this game!

In fact, the only bit i didnt really care for was the quick reaction fights where you have to hit the correct button quickly or get beaten up/repeat the fight- this was because i was using a playstation controler but the buttons it was telling me to press where x-box controller buttons, so it was just a bit to confusing for my brain alot of the time (why did Microsoft choose to have an 'X' button but put it in a different place anyway!?! haha). Anyway my minor instinctual button pressing issues aside, its a great experience. Yes i know that the majority of your choices as to what you say does not make any long term difference but it just makes the whole experience so much more immersive and involving than just reading a comic/watching a film.
Great story and well worth the £12-ish i paid for it.

In your travels you meet all kind of favorite characters from our childhood fables. Snow White, Ichabod Crane, Beauty and the Beast, and many more. The difference in these fables is that they are thrust into a very adult world that contains murder, prostitutes, and bar fights.
While the entire storyline was very loosely tied together (you'll get the pun when you play the game), the way it is told and the narrative of the entire gameplay is fantastic and fun. This is a choose your own adventure game from Telltale Games which pretty much means you can control the conversation but the overall outcomes are never all that different except for a few instances.
The graphics were great for this, the voice overs were perfect, and the sounds and soundtrack fit the game perfectly. Definitely one game you cannot miss from Telltale Games. I'd even say it's better than the Walking Dead series.
