So yeah, reading the list above I realize it doesn't look good, but ultimately none of that mattered, because I really loved playing The Medium.
I won't spoil the story but turned out very differently from what I expected, it's intriguing enough from the start to justify playing the game, but it really picks up steam in the second half of the game. The atmosphere is definitely the best I've seen since Silent Hill 2 but is not just a copy (although the inspiration is clear) and is helped by gorgeous (well... creepy and horrifying but you know what I mean) locations. Of course the music and sound design is awesome. There aren't a lot of characters but they are really well made, and voiced by more than decent actors.
So I would definitely recommend this game, but maybe not at full price since it's pretty short and you'll probably not play it more than once or twice.

FINAL VERDICT: Must Buy for Narrative-Driven game fans! Spoiler-free Review
The Medium is one of the best psychological horror, narrative-driven experiences! However, beware: I did experience several technical issues while playing this game. I had to update my Nvidia graphics card in order to get this game to run without constantly crashing, even though no other games I played were crashing. Performance was all over the place, I would get random frame rate drops during my playtime. I did experience a hard crash even after I updated my PC.
The game took me approximately 10 hours to complete, but at least one hour was spent just on troubleshooting. Despite all those technical issues, I loved this game. It has a gripping narrative that hooks you in from start to finish. There's a dark, brooding, over-bearing & terrifying atmosphere this game exudes. The voice acting is excellent. All the voice actors did a great job, but especially the voice of the demon spirit which has all the pain, all the hate, all the evil in some very simple phrases that will haunt your dreams. The musical soundtrack is also excellent.
The gameplay is rather simple though. And while I did enjoy the casual-style puzzles, I did not enjoy the controls. I found myself often just fighting the controls and that made some of the gameplay sequences frustrating. It sucked when you died and you would have to redo a whole section, just because of the maddening controls.
Game is running on the Unreal Engine. On my RTX 3080 (2560 x 1440 monitor) on high graphical settings, I was getting variable frame rates from 20-60 fps, although most of the time it was at 60 fps. Many of the interactions are of the point and click variety (really highlight and press the correct button if you're on a gamepad). It's very easy to miss an object that you can interact with if you're not paying close attention. You can only interact with a few objects in the scenes.
The game does sort of end on a cliffhanger, although it does have a satisfactory ending. I would love to see the continuation of this story and I am intrigued on how the story is supposed to go. Warning: while this is a not a violent game, it is a game that talks about and depicts gritty violence at times. It is a mature psychological horror story.
Rate 8/10. If this had been a smooth, polished experience with slightly better gameplay, it could have been a 10/10. The narrative is that great!

The graphics are well done, with indoor and outdoor segments. There is an air of menace that pervades all scenes and you will be constantly looking over your virtual shoulder. The sound track adds to your sense of abandonment and dread, with excellent voice acting that is quite chilling at times.
Gameplay includes some interesting mechanics such as moving out of Marianne's body to the spirit world and using spirit energy for power and protection. Marianne's journey alternates between the physical and spiritual realities and puzzles are often solved by cooperation between these two aspects of her character. Can't get through a locked door? Step outside your physical body and explore the other side. Electricity turned off? Use energy from a 'spirit well' to power up items on the physical plane.
Marianne learns about the past from finding notes, audio 'echoes', and memory fragments. These piece together to tell a story of terrible wrongs in the past and how these events impact the present. All in all, a really good (and at times, horrifying) tale of the supernatural. Plus, Marianne is a strong, gritty woman and I found myself cheering her on.
The game auto-saves regularly and maintains a handful of slots. Thus, you always have the option of loading a past save to restart an area or rewind some of your progress. There are a handful of chase and stealth scenes. For me, the toughest survival scene was the first and the rest were not hard. Your success at surviving (by escaping or sneaking) is required to move the story forward. Other than missing one achievement, there is no penalty for failure... just the ability to try (and try) again. Although the keyboard and mouse are fully supported, I found it impossible to complete these sequences and turned to my controller which greatly improved navigation.
While some achievements are story-related, others are awarded for collectibles. Finding all items in a single play through requires taking the time to fully explore every environment. Hot spots are clearly indicated so you will not need to do any pixel hunting. All achievements can be attained in a single (albeit careful) play through. The story is fairly linear so The Medium has little replay value (unless you are circling back for missed collectibles or just want to do it all over again). Puzzles are generally environmental ... some with inventory 'find and use' and others to remove/repair obstacles (often by strategically working between the physical and spirit planes).
I really liked this game and would highly recommend it to adventurers who can tolerate a wee bit of running and sneaking. For the most part, you will be walking or running through creepy, dank environments in order to discover what happened and how/if Marianne fits into it all.

TW: sexual abuse (and spoilers, though I'm avoiding details)
I was uncomfortable with the way that sexual abuse was used in this game. I could see that the developers tried their best to be non-explicit and not too traumatizing. But still, there's something about the way the victim of the abuse is shoved out of the spotlight in favor of other characters that feels really dehumanizing and left a very bad taste in my mouth. There's much more attention paid to the impact on everyone around the victim, including their abuser(!), while the actual victim gets very little chance to express themselves. They're mostly an object for other characters in the story. In a game about trauma, their trauma is largely unexplored. It feels cheap and insensitive. I can see that the developers did their best not to be exploitative here, but it's a fact of the story that one character's sexual abuse is used primarily as a tool to motivate other characters. Again, given the way the game tries to grapple with the impacts of trauma, it feels like a huge blind spot.

Would I recommend it myself full price? Maybe. If you have a big itch for that kind of game.
In a sale? 100 %
Rating 8/10
If you're looking for a story game in the psychological horror genre then this might be it for you
Story is great and kept me interessted
Gameplay is good for the type of game it is
Graphics brilliant (You need a pretty powerful PC to run it properly)
Sound also great
Sadly it's a little bit on the shorter Side, it didn't even take me 8 hours to complete and I did not try to speedrun it or anything. Just played at a regular pace even read all the notes and pickups (I found). I don't have a problem with a game being short except that I obviously want more of it.
The only downside I had with it personally was.. about halfway through at one point in the game
(Red House)
I experienced some crashes. I can NOT give a certain fix for but I can recommend the following:
Turn off Raytracing
Put the game in Borderless Windowed
Turn on V-Sync (Input-Lag isn't a big deal here anyways)
Limit to 60 FPS (yes even tho V-Sync is on i still did it)
After i put my settings like that I did not experience any further crashes

I'll do my best to not tell any spoilers.
The music of this game was really good, for setting the mood and fit every situation. The camera angles were an excellent choice for a lot of the scenes especially the first time we get a vision of someone else in the spirit realm. I loved how as some of the questions we had were answered, there were more questions brought to light.
The ending, man that was bitter sweet. I was and wasn't expecting it. There's still some questions sitting on the table but man that was such a good game with good story telling through every aspect of it; from the music, the little details you see in the background when you are looking at other items, the items you find that you can easily miss, and just the way the camera is angled.
Definitely looking forward to playing another game from this team again soon (and secretly hoping there might be a sequel game but it's also excellent as a stand alone).
For sure play The Medium. Well worth the price!

No cheap jumpscares, which is good.
Amazing graphics, and story.
Love the split screen mechanic, however it has room for more refinement in future installments.
The gameplay reminded me much of the early 3rd person resident evil games.
Control movements of the characters could be improved.

I really liked the setting. They included a lot of classic ghost related horror and folk lore tropes, but in such a way that they made sense and just sort of felt natural.
This game reminded me of Control in a few ways. One thing I feel it did a lot better though, was conveying that feeling of the supernatural being natural to the protagonist.
The gameplay was fine. It does a decent job building tension and adding to the atmosphere and immersion, but don't expect anything ground breaking.
The asking price is obviously pretty steep for a 10 hour game, so if you don't have a lot of money to throw around, its probably worth waiting for a sale.

Set in Poland, 1999, you play as a psychic medium named Marianne. After a tragic accident took her step-father's life, she sets off to her childhood home to say her final goodbye to him and prepare him for his last journey. However, before the funeral can begin she receives a mysterious phone call from a man simply known as Thomas, who urges her to meet him at the nearby Niwa Resort. He claims that she is the only one who can help him, but little does Marianne know that the events that are about to unfold not only tell the tale of a major tragedy, but they will also help her uncover the long-lost secrets of her past.
Before you consider buying this game, you should be going into it knowing that you'll be in for a purely cinematic experience. There's no true combat, only a handful of stealth sections, and the gameplay is comprised mostly of easy puzzles that require you to find certain items to progress. This is entirely forgivable due to just how amazing the story here actually is, and how uniquely the gameplay is presented. Marianne's special psychic ability constantly tears her between the world of the living and the world of the dead, which will have you straddling the line of the two worlds at many moments of the campaign; you'll actually be controlling her real-world form and spirit form simultaneously in split-screen, exploring both planes at the same time. Oppositely, there are plenty of junctions where you only control one or the other as well. The split-play is executed in an absolutely phenomenal manner, and lends to the immersive quality of the story.
The art and sound direction are equally as stunning as the cinematic quality of the story and gameplay as well. The soundtrack... mmm MMMM oh the soundtrack... it was in-part created by Akira Yamaoka. Need I say more? If you answered yes, then that's on you. As far as the visuals go, on the one hand you have the world of the living; a rather blue, rainy, drab Polish cityscape that takes place mostly in the Niwa Resort, which is a large building, and later in a forest. On the other hand you have the spirit world; a rusty brown world filled with bones, fleshy barriers, and a feeling of ancient decay. Obviously the spirit world was highly inspired by Silent Hill, but what shines through even brighter than that is the inspiration from the work of painter Zdzisław Beksiński. The colour contrast between the two realms, especially when laid out side-by-side in split-screen, is wonderfully executed and, quite frankly, jaw-dropping; it looks even better with HDR turned on, and in 4K resolution played in DirectX 12 it is one of the best looking games on the market right now.
And that brings us to The Medium's biggest problem... its abysmal performance. Now, I know my build is pretty outdated at this time (i7-6700k/GTX 1080), but one glance over the forums and you'll see people with RTX 3080s and more modern builds having issues as well. I ran this game on full graphic settings, no raytracing, at 1080p, and I was getting as low as 20 FPS in some areas and saw most areas stabilize at 40 FPS. Some sections managed to pull 60 FPS, but relatively few. This game also made my watercooled CPU heat up to 90C+ while my GPU barely grazed 70C. This title also abhors alt + tabbing out of it, and it'll do a number of tricks on your desktop if you attempt to get to your taskbar while playing it. There are just some really, really strange performance anomalies across the board here, some that I've never even experienced before, and I've played over a thousand games on Steam alone. Sadly, it doesn't seem as though fixing any of these problems is high on Bloober Team's to-do list.
Looking past such attrocious optimization is something that I rarely do, I will damn a game to hell for subpar performance. However, in the case of The Medium, the FPS drops didn't seem to affect the gameplay much and it wasn't that noticeable; it's the rest of the problems that are a higher concern. Looking past all that, though, lies one hell of a stunning game. The story is a bit complex, as any Silent Hill inspired game should be, but that's because it requires you to use your mind to tie together the strings that you're given throughout its 8 hour experience. On top of a great story, stunning visuals, beautiful soundtrack is one of the most unique gameplay concepts you'll find on the market right now. The split-screen really works better than you'd think it would, and it's fun to have to use both worlds to solve progression puzzles. If you can cope with the technical issues The Medium has, it might just be the best game you play all year.
Rating: 4.5/5.0 - Excellent, highly worth playing.

I'm only 3 hours into it, and save my game time for the nights with this particular game, where I can immerse myself even deeper into the atmosphere. It runs nice, and smooth on my rig. The only thing that needs some getting use to, is the walking around, but nothing drastic for me.
Just give it a try, and see if you like it.

Just like others have said, I really wanted to like this game, but it became quite difficult to do so. Here are a few things that made my experience not enjoyable:
- The game play is very slow and nothing much happens. This game became boring very quickly despite the great potential that some of the underlying ideas had. Basically you spend most of the game walking and pressing X or A to solve super simple puzzles or listening to spiritual voices. There's barely any action and actually getting killed is a challenge. The characters also move very slow even when running to the point of being annoying. Since you spend most of the time walking from point A to point B without much happening in between, doing so at a slow speed feels extra boring, as if you were being dragged through the floor.
- The game does not get much juice out of the split screen system. Yes, you make use of it throughout the game, but I don't think the experience is that great and overall I'd rather immerse myself in the visuals of a full screen world than have a split screen that doesn't provide that much to the game play.
- I did not like the voice acting of the main character. In my opinion it didn't convey the right emotions during the game and it felt fairly contrived.
- Texture flickering. While the graphics are in general quite good, I suffered from texture flickering in many parts of the game. This affected things like shadows in the forests and other textures on the floor or walls, like spray paintings or blood stains. It became quite annoying and the only way to stop this from happening was to disable ray tracing, which defeats one of the purposes of using an RTX 3090 :).

The puzzles were satisfying and challenging, and while I personally had a bit of a hard time with the split screen, it was innovative and allowed so much more scope to the scenes. Also personally loved lack of full combat. Being clever rather than being strong is always a favorite for me in horror games.
The music is amazing.
Also, the accessibility features? I have never seen such thought put in! More games should give these sorts of options.
