I like a good, slow paced point and click game, but this one is just painfully boring. There is literally noting to do for the player and the sequences when you just need to sit through without anything happening take MINUTES (I kid you not). Music is OK, but pretty monotonous and it get's old fast.
Save yourself 120 minutes of your life and do not play this game.

I discovered this game on PS store's upcoming games section and instantly loved its pixel art, so I decided to buy it on Steam. The music is so good that keeps you playing til the end and the lack of dialog lets you interpret the story by yourself. Still, it can be a frustrating game for some people 'cause the gameplay is not that entertaining. Let the beautiful voice of Beicoli guide you through this journey! <3

Recommending for the great art and music. The game is quite a poetic and beautiful story, but painfully slow pace. I fell asleep for multiple times while still holding the arrow button, you need a lot of patient to finish the whole game, with a lot of walking, guess that's how the name of the game comes from. I still think the walking speed is unnecessarily slow, maybe they think it helps with the story building?

I've been isolated in a room and away from my family following a positive covid test and this game (not really a game, more of an interactive experience) made me tear up, made me contemplate loneliness and how life is passing us by. All in all very sad and poignant experience, with a great soundtrack, that I recommend strongly.

More of a follow along to the soundtrack than actual game play. Beautiful pixel artwork and no printed dialogue allow for open interpretation of each story. Great for viewing in a quiet room with the lights down and the volume up. The game is relatively short so won't over stay it's welcome.

This game is definitely for a particular kind of audience, and I am that kind of audience. It's a slow-paced, atmospheric narrative.

I wanted to like this game a lot. I love walking simulators, interactive fiction, and most importantly: slow story telling.

Unfortunately, I have a cognitive disability that means I basically can't understand song lyrics without reading them at the same time. This game has *NO* subtitling available, making any meaning beyond what is presented visually completely impenetrable to me. I imagine it must be equally difficult (or harder) for people who learned English as a second language, or those who are hard of hearing or deaf.

With most of the songs having the same 'vibe,' sung by the one developer/artist, it's hard for me to discern any additional meaning from the game other than a sort of melancholic ennui about the meaning of existence and loss. I stopped after 45 minutes.

Please consider adding accessibility functionality - in the form of lyric subtitles - to your game.

Points positifs :

- Pixel art noir et blanc magnifique
- Bande-sonore superbement interprétée, très aérienne...

I didn't expect to empathize so much with this game. A lot of the scenes expect you to fill the gaps of the stories, but while you do so, you somehow feel certain emotional connection with each character. The meal time at the office, waiting at the bus stop, or going to visit the doctor are spaces that even though may seem mundane for many, they meant the world in certain moments for us. These are spaces where significant realizations in our lives took place. This game is about those moments, and it's been beautiful to remember them through its stories.

Truth to be told, I kinda laughed my ass off whilst I thought of some people claiming that video-games cannot ever reach the status of being a work of art. This game, the work of art I've mentioned, had stepped up and pleaded for itself. Hats off to the visual designers and the beautiful voice that put billions of emotions inside us. The way I see video-games, there is a purpose of being an interactive book in which the players control the stories that are given to them. On the other hand, there is this game where there is no dialogue, no choice, question marks, fighting, survival etc. Yet you are to shape your emotions by understanding the characters, their emotions, their lives and experiences based on the portrayed pixel-art and the music combined.

I still don't know the names of the portrayed characters but I have felt for them, so will you.

This game takes 90 minutes to complete.
It features no dialogue and almost no written text.
There is a lot of well-produced vocal music, which provides a thoughtful ambience.
90% of the pixel art is good; The other 10% are great. There are even well-executed bits of visual storytelling.

Pokemon, Disco Elysium, The Red Strings Club and Backbone references, among many others. I appreciate those, and the refreshing soundtrack, and the oddly impressive black & white pixelart.
This is something you should try late at night with a shot of liquor or a couple of cigs.

Just finished this game, and I felt compelled to immediately leave a review. Sure, it's unusual. Sure, it's very slow, and fairly minimalistic in terms of gameplay. But some of the sequences in there are absolutely beautiful, the music is gorgeous, and if you've already stopped once to wonder about what makes us humans, you'll connect with the stories that are told. Also, the greyscale pixel art is stunning. Very much recommended!

if you aren't down for just an emotional game that doesn't make gameplay a focus then this game is not for you. but if you are down for that, this game is a masterpiece and makes you think about life as a cycle, and how mundane and just depressing, for lack of vocabulary, life is. i am only 19 when i am writing this but i feel like this game just ruined me for the week (in a good way) and i need to think about missed opportunities and everything that my life has ended up missing out on. i can't help but feel hopeless playing this, but no this isn't a con of the game, it's the games strong suit. devs? good job on this, and please, keep making more

It's not just a game with great art.

It's not just a game with good music.

Listening to music is just hitting the play button, but this game is a magnificent way to hit that play button and feel the music. Perfect mixture.

Just try to play it alone with no distractions.

Hope you like it as much as me.

Better than life.

Cool soundtrack and experience but poor game design and suprisingly very bad audio programming (fade in/outs , gaps between loop sections and track endings is a poor decision and kills all the mood) I am not sure about narrative part too , with all this material i felt like this should not be the final product. Credit screen without music is weird too. To sum up lots of weird decisions made.

The Longest Road on Earth

An interesting concept that excels graphically, but doesn’t quite work as a narrative piece of work due to the mundane story and indiscriminate music.

Zitat:
https://saveorquit.com/2021/06/02/review-the-longest-road-on-earth/

The Longest Road on Earth is an anthropomorphic narrative based game with no text and no voice acting. Scenes are played out in conjunction with musical tracks being played in the background. The scenes can be interpreted differently as there is no solid narrative, just a visual and audible spectacle.

There are four short stories to witness and twenty-four original songs, sung by the developer!

The stories depict events in everyday life like working and recreational activities.

???? Overall Impressions

The Longest Road on Earth is graphically impressive and has a nice ambience about it, but the gameplay is painfully slow and the stories are quite bland.

The four stories that we witness aren’t really interesting tales, but more of a peak into their mundane lives at work. Often, we will spend minutes sitting on a train or a bus, or walking along a street with nothing else happening. At first, I thought I must be able to move on the train, as I felt like I was sitting down forever. I could view passengers across from me but that was the extent of my interaction on the journey until I arrived at my destination.

I don’t mind interpreting stories but at least make them a bit exciting. Even slice of life games I enjoy but who wants to watch someone sitting on a train for three minutes or taking five minutes to walk down a street? There are the occasional things you can examine, or if you’re lucky interact with, and there are the occasional interesting things to look at, like a woman smoking at her window, but it becomes tedious, walking everywhere and sitting down for long stretches.

The character’s walking speed is very slow, so this compounded the feeling of frustration trying to get to your destination, and when you get there, the character just performs mundane tasks like making a coffee or smoking a cigarette. Nothing much happens at all.

The pace in the majority of the stories is extremely slow, with long drawn-out scenes and slow movement, yet the last tale was full of life, with short, interesting scenes and clever animations. I just wish they had used this model throughout the game. I understand life can be boring and sometimes this can be made interesting with the right tools but it didn’t work in this title.

The music had to play a pivotal role in creating emotion to make this project work and I believe sadly it has failed. I did not feel any emotion in the game or for the characters and it just felt a bit boring. The music did not change much throughout, and even though it was performed well, it did not fit into the scenes effectively. It just felt like I had the radio on in the background.

[/tr]
The Longest Road is graphically impressive with some notable animations, but the stories are dull and the music does nothing to create emotion during scenes.

I think the concept is interesting but the lack of musical variety is its downfall.

????️Gameplay

Gameplay is very minimal.

You control the character’s left and right movements around the screen whilst a musical track plays in the background.
There are instances when a white or black box appears on items, or occasionally a triangle. This means you can interact or inspect the object.

Inspecting the object just shows a closer up image of the item. You are unable to spin it around or zoom in and out.
Interacting with the object means you can manipulate it in a very basic way. For example, playing the piano or pressing a button.

The triangle asks you to hold the action button (like holding a key down on a piano) which had me stumped for a while! This is never explained and caused confusion. I imagine there will be people quitting the game thinking this is a bug.
There is no inventory. These tasks are extremely basic and just add a bit of titillation to proceedings.

A few times, I was left wondering whether I had to do something to progress or just wait. There were various objects like lamps that wanted me to interact with them but then did nothing. You will be waiting a lot in this game without much going on and it can be disconcerting.

Interacting with objects can initiate memories of past events or switch to a different story or timeline. Sometimes, examining objects can invoke a small cut scene.

The game is very linear. You must follow the path designed for you without any deviation.

The game takes around two hours to complete. There are no achievements or trading cards.

A controller or keyboard can be used.

???? Graphics

The visuals are undoubtedly the highlight of the game.

There is very clever use of camera angles, and the way the characters move and behave are extremely realistic considering the graphics are very pixelated.

Sometimes, the graphics are so pixelated it is hard to define what is happening in the scene and other times you will be marveling at the animations.

There are some lovely cut scenes that fill in story plots, and nice touches here and there that will impress.

I really did like the aesthetics of the game.

https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=2497629901

???? Sound

The sound is a bit of a bone of contention for me.

First of all, it sounds great. Apparently, the singer is one of the developers. I would say she is in the wrong business as she has a lovely voice that reminded me of a mixture of Julie Cruise and Billy Eilish.

The soundtrack is incredibly relaxing.

The problem I have with it is that it sounds very similar throughout. There are slight variations in pace and use of instruments, but even though it sounds nice, it becomes a bit repetitive.

Also, the songs don’t feel like they are specifically designed for the scenes. It just sounds like some incidental music playing in the background like you were listening to Spotify whilst playing a silent game. You could play whatever music you wanted whilst playing and I think it would have the same effect.

I was expecting some dramatic music to fit scenes of excitement, and melancholy music to accompany sad events, but there wasn’t much variation. Songs often abruptly ended and started again whilst still on the same scene which broke immersion.

????Conclusion ⚖

Zitat:
The Longest Road is an ambitious project with a lot of plus points, especially the art work, nice animations and the chilled ambience. It is a very relaxing game.

The music is performed well, with excellent vocals, but there is not enough variety in the music due to the same vocalist performing throughout the game.

I would have much rather heard a mixture of songs tailored for the scenes, creating emotion in proceedings and making things a bit more interesting.

The pace of the game is incredibly slow and the stories did not interest me enough to recommend this title.

I still think it might appeal to somebody who likes the music and just wants a chilled game to play for a couple of hours. I wanted a bit more drama and emotion.
