Nice relaxing game to pass time wish it was longer. cool puzzles not to hard to solve and the music is ok but i would of liked if it changed a bit as playing instead of same all the way through.
Overall good game maybe 7/10 as so short.
Best wait for a sale imo

A bit buggy (falling off map without dying, occasional bad clipping) but not terrible.
Generic blocky no-texture environment (with some cut & paste terrain).
Fairly standard, easy puzzles.
Platforming is really just jumping onto 3-4 rocks in a row.
Nothing of significance to explore (and exploration sometimes requires dying).
Very short.
Typical Unity fare. Worth ~$2 IMHO.

I didn't expect a third-person puzzle game to make me so emotional! There's great story-telling going on here, all without any dialogue. The learning curve in the gameplay is handled really well too; I think new elements are added at the right pace, and there's a good bit of variety in the puzzles provided. The low-poly style is gorgeous too. It's amazing that this came from one developer!

Pleasant visually, has lovely music, but overall falls a little short. Some of the puzzles are interesting but mostly they're pretty basic. A hint system is included - it requires spending gems that you find by exploring levels - but for me it went unused.
As for those gems, there are achievements for collecting all of them per level. You aren't given a counter, and only find out how many there are, and if you missed any, after completing a level. This was particularly frustrating in a sprawling valley level, with a large maze in one section of it. The extra time I put into finding the ones I did went completely wasted. What made me laugh is that after that I gave up on the gems, yet managed to find them all in the next level without even trying.
Controls are fine but a little wonky, when some puzzles require you to have relatively precise footing. Bafflingly, there is an option to change the camera Y inversion, but not X.
Also missing from the options menu is a way to reduce or remove bloom. I spent the entirety of the second level squinting.
I'd give it a neutral rating if I could. Would probably be a great game for kids of a certain age.

El juego es algo corto pero vale la pena, la historia que muestra es conmovedora.
Los puzzles no son complicados, yo lo pasé a la primera, sin morir y sin usar ninguna pista, sólo es cuestión de pensar un poco.
The Long Return is a nice and somewhat casual puzzle game where you play a cub seeking his mother. IUsing the spirits of other animals and their memories you'll track your way there and find her. The diverse and pretty environments are a nice relaxing scene to explore. The music is fitting and relaxing. For the most part the gameplay is pretty linear and understandable. You will make your way from point A to B solving puzzles along the way. The puzzles consist of a few different type that get harder as the game goes along. There are a fair amount of sliding block puzzles; but there are also pattern puzzles, light puzzles, and a maze puzzle. It's a relatively short game with three main areas. There is a hint system and depending on how you use it typical game play may take around 2 hours to clear. However; getting all achievements is a different story, because that requires essentially perfection of the entire game.
The Minor Gripes
I'll start with some of my gripes that would apply to anyone enjoying this title. There are some clipping issues here and there where you will go through some objects. The music while relaxing can be a bit repetitive depending on how long it takes you to clear a stage. The game is mostly linear, however it abandons this in the middle of the game for an area where you have to clear four puzzles found throughout the level. It's nothing terrible; but it's a bit confusing getting your bearings especially when you have been accustomed to linear stages up to this point. After this stage for the rest of the game it goes back to linear levels. Lastly for general everyone cons; the game is a bit short for the price. That being said; the rest of my gripes are for achievement hunters. If you don't care about achievements this won't bother you as much. You are expected to complete the game with perfection for all achievements. This isn't bad for the short play time and relatively simple puzzles; however there are a few hitches. You can't use hints, you can't die, there's no counter to tell you if you are missing any collectibles, once you beat a stage you can't go back to it, and last and most important in this there is no stage select. If you miss something you have to start the game over and do it all again perfectly. In the end for such a casual game it's just a bit too unforgiving.
For what the title does; it does well enough. It's pretty, casual, and relaxing; but as an achievement hunter it can strike a bit of frustration. If you don't play games for achievements than it's a nice and casual experience. If you play for perfection; be prepared to prove your perfection. No matter your preference; I would recommend this game if you can get it on a good sale.

Like others say, it's a really short game, it took me just under 2 hours to complete, although achievement hunting will probably take a little bit more. Regardless, the music is beautiful, the puzzles are simple but get to be entertainingly tricky as you progress, yet it never got frustrating, and it tells something of a nice story with no words. Definitely worth playing if you can get it for cheap, 10$ or even the 7$ I paid is probably a bit too much for how short it is.

Short but fun. The puzzles vary in difficulty, and I found a few to be rather tricky to work out, but nothing impossible to solve. The music is cute and charming, and the story is told fairly well without any dialogue. If you like classic puzzle games and want to spend a couple hours relaxing, this is a good choice.

10/10 As a fan of Shelter series and other games similar to this one, I really had a good time. A bit shorter than I expected it to be, but a very good and cute game. Puzzles are fun and not so easy. I recommend this game for sure. Thanks wifi wifey for gifting me this. <3

The Long Return is a short puzzle game revolving around an orphaned cub who retraces his steps from the last journey he took with his mother. It features a beautiful soundtrack, scenery and wildlife, with the centre of the game focusing on puzzles and thus it is not to be confused with a walking simulator or story-rich title. Its puzzles vary in difficulty, but they succeed in making players use their brains and become immersed into the stunning, natural surroundings.
Pros
+ Variety of unique puzzles with different difficulties.
+ Beautiful scenery with different natural environments.
+ Gems can be collected and used for hints in puzzles.
+ Inspiring soundtrack.
+ Steam achievements.
Cons
- No chapter select option to replay levels and unlock missed achievements without restarting the entire game.
With the centre of the game being its puzzles, players aren't told much of a story, except that we play as an orphaned cub who retraces his steps that he took with his mother. We see memories of her along the way and eventually, the unnamed cub will grow up once the final puzzles are 'defeated'.
Gameplay
Players control the cub throughout his journey with the typical WSAD keys in a third-person view. There are plenty of puzzles along the way which must be completed to proceed to the next area. As the cub runs through the fields, there are gems to collect. The gems can be found hidden under mounds in the snow, in flowers or even other wildlife. They are automatically collected if the cub runs over the top of them or is nearby to the animals. The gems serve a useful purpose and can be used in puzzles as hints if players wish to do so. A hint is worth 10 of these gems and reveals the starting solution of a puzzle.
The games biggest downfall is its lack of a chapter select menu. Each chapter has a gem count, seemingly to encourage players to collect all of them, or to replay if some were missed. Yet, there is no option to do so and this would be exceptionally frustrating for perfectionists and achievement-hunters alike. Most of the achievements are connected with collecting all of the gems, and thus if some were missed, the associated achievements are unattainable, unless players restart the entire game to get back to the intended chapter.
The most common puzzle in the game is a cube-like setup whereby players must move the cubes around the grid to a specific area. Puzzles become increasingly difficult but are not impossible nor insanely frustrating, but some do require a bit of thinking. There are no instructions for any puzzle types but generally, it was pretty clear to deduce the rules of the game.
For me, the easiest puzzle was the mazes with move-able centres. Other puzzles include 2-4 objects that move simultaneously and alike the standard cube puzzles, they must be moved to sit on a specific square on the grid. Towards the end of the game, these took some trial and error for me, but the hints were always helpful if I was unsure.
Another notable puzzle was where players must figure out the pattern from a block of 3X3 designs, with the last block left blank. Immediately in-front of this block is an interactive light-up grid which the cub can run along to select the answer by walking over each square to enter the missing pattern.
Overall, I enjoyed this casual puzzle atmosphere being incorporated into the games natural setting, and being only 2-3 hours long, it did not become tedious or boring, but was a good calming escape for an afternoon.
Each chapter has a different natural and outdoor setting, bursting with vibrant colours with an array of wildlife from foxes, deer, rabbits and more. It has a very relaxing aura and was fun to travel and explore between puzzles.
Sound
The Long Return features an inspirational and beautiful original soundtrack that can be purchased along with the game. There is no text or voice-overs, but the soundtrack alone is quite dramatic and makes up for the lack of other in-game sounds.
Price and Content: Sale price or not?
The store page suggests it takes about 2-3 hours to complete and I clocked in within this bracket at 2.8 hours. I certainly enjoyed my playthrough and wouldn't wish this game to drag out any longer, as constant puzzles could become quite tedious. However, with a cost of $AU14.50 I would have to recommend this only on sale due to its short playtime.
Overall analysis
The Long Return is a nice, short puzzle game to keep casual adventure fans busy for a few hours and immerse them in its beautiful environments. There are a variety of different puzzles that are sure to please fellow puzzle enthusiasts and optional hints for those who struggle. With this combination of beautiful graphics and interesting puzzles, it is a game that I would easily recommend to all.

Game info:
This is a stunning looking adventure puzzle game. You play as an orphaned Cub and follow the trail of the last journey you took with your mother. This is mostly a puzzle game with a lot of challenging puzzles. A lot of times I felt at the start of a puzzle that it would impossible, but in the end, it always was possible. I just had to try and fail a lot on a few puzzles to figure it out. The game takes about 2-3 hours to beat.
Achievements info:
This information can change a bit since the developer told me he would like to add more achievements.
Going for all the achievements is a lot harder. You may not use the hint system, you may not die and the more annoying one, you must find all the gems before completing a level since you can't go back to previous area's and the achievement unlocks only at the end of a level.
Here a plan to help you get the 100% a bit easier than it was for me... I still have to go back to 2 areas to get those missing gems. When you start the game you'll get into the tutorial area. After you have solved your first puzzle the game will save. To find the save file in the following map on your computer: Max Nielsen > The Long Return > Data. Save that text file somewhere else so you can quit the game when something goes wrong and replace your current save with the save file you stored somewhere else. Make different save files at the beginning of each level, this way if you miss gems in a level you only have to redo that level and not later the whole game!
The following list will tell you how many gems you need to have at the end of each area:
- Tutorial zone: 24 gems, in a future update this will be an achievement, you'll have to redo it once that achievement is live
- Frosty Lake: 19 gems, which means you need a total of 43 when you finish this area
- Greenhorn Mountain: 29 gems, which means you need a total of 72 when you finish this area
- Sunhill Valley: 64 gems, which means you need a total of 136 when you finish this area
- Rocky Falls: 21 gems, which means you need a total of 157 when you finish this area
Pros & cons:
+ Stunning looking game
+ challenging puzzles
- missable achievements and no way to return to a specific zone without restarting the game

A satisfying, albeit short, puzzle-solving game that focuses heavily on visuals, music and exploration. Take your little lioness on a journey to find her mother and watch her grow up along the way. Explore different areas and collect diamonds to spend on hints (if you need them) and marvel in the beauty of this saturated world. I spent some time running around trying to find ways to break the map boundaries and only managed once. It's pretty polished in that regard, besides a little clipping here and there. All in all a very good first entry for the developer breaking into the games industry.
Pros:
+ Pleasant visuals, aesthetically pleasing.
+ Calming soundtrack
+ Varied level design
+ Puzzles had varying degrees of difficulty.
+ Overall Fun
+ Fluid movement / animations (-Jumping)
Cons:
- Jumping. It seemed a little sticky at times
- I missed 1 diamond on two maps, and there are no ways to check if you're missing any before ending the level. Feelsbadman. A gem counter (10/52) would help, but also shorten gameplay significantly since exploration would be put aside. It's tricky.
- Clipping, here and there, mostly on rocks you're not supposed to be on or in areas you're not supposed to go. Take that how you will.
All in all it was a relaxing experience, a great time killer and a way to have my brain work on slow-mode while listening to some pretty songs.
