Über das Spiel

Was ist The Long Dark?

Aktuelle Spielfunktionen

  • Viele weitere Funktionen!
  • Laufende Entwicklung Mit durchschnittlich 3–4 Updates pro Monat wird The Long Dark stetig verbessert.

The episodes 1 to 3 were great and make fun. Episode 4 is only save, try and reload. It's not fun anymore. Wolves and bears appear everywhere. Unfortunately, I do not enjoy playing anymore.

If you like to run from point A to point B and to point C and back to point A again - this game is for you. Because that's 90 % of the game. A bit survival, a decent story and a nice snowy atmosphere but the running around part ist just soooooo boring.

Mein absolutes Lieblingsspiel !

Seit Jahren mein absolutes Lieblingsspiel!

The Long Dark: Ein echtes Survival Spiel!

Great game, best survival game ever made in my opinion. Played through almost all updates, never got bored once. It delivers a spectacular balance between survival, preparing and adrenaline. Hinterland gave years ago a rough timeline of their future development, the one I am really looking forward to is seasons. This is what they hope to accomplish and I am looking forward to this one.

I absolutely recommend this game and I praise the devs!

Best survival game I've ever played, I played multiple games like The Forest, 7 Days To Die and more, but this game is absolulety the best, you can feel the lonely you are, The feeling that anything can happen at any time is constant, animals, weather and northen lights, if you are looking for a challenge, this is your game, beautiful landscapes and beautiful narrative story with which you connect from minute 1, the only bad thing and at the same time not, there's no cooperative game.

Excellent survival game. The story isn't finished as I write this review, but I'd say the story works well as an extremely long tutorial before you jump into survival mode. By tutorial, I mean they throw new things at you now and then, your hand generally isn't held here. Figuring out how the game works and what is and isn't worth having with you is key to moving forward. I wouldn't hold it against anyone to look up certain things, I certainly struggled to get started, but it's a game you can start playing, and suddenly it's 4 hours later and you were so busy keeping your character alive that you forgot to feed yourself in real life.

Immersive survival experience with astounding audio (headphones are a must). Gameplay is 85% pensive exploration & looting + 15% desperate survival stuff & fleeing for your life. The game doesn't hold your hand, so prepare to die a few times before you get the hang of things.

Survived for 60 days off a diet of fish and venison and had plenty of supplies; I'd even started going after the wolves and had some pelts curing up for a nice coat.

Got cocky and went after a bear. Landed a shot on him, got mauled, ran off, and waited for him to drop dead. I had very little health left and the bear's corpse was in a wolf-infested clearing. Rather than take the hint, head home, and come back later I decided to build a fire and carry off the goods then and there.

Promptly got attacked by a wolf and faded into the long dark. Great game, not recommended for ragequitters.

This game is supposed to be about an immersive survival experience. Instead, it's about menus and meters. Standing still and performing no interaction/gameplay while the circle in the middle of the screen fills up is NOT fun and is NOT immersive. If I have a full-length conversation while standing next to a roaring fire, I should be warm when the conversation is over. I should not have to stand still next to the fire while performing no interaction/gameplay in order to get warm. This is a terribly un-fun experience and it's simply astounding that anyone would design a game this way.

I bought this game years ago because I wanted to try a “new kind” of survival game. The great thing about the game is that you can play it just the way you want. you can play on an easy difficulty level and enjoy the world, or you can play on a really hard difficulty level where everything has to be planned well so you don’t die. The unique thing about the game is that when you die, your save are permanently deleted.

There is a story in the game (which is still in progress). The story is divided into five separate parts in which Will Mackenzie and Astrid Greenwood survive in nature in Canada after a plane crash.
Auroros have confused animals and disrupted electrical networks.
In addition to the story, the game also has challenges to help you learn the key points of the game and navigation.

The gameplay of the game is simple and easy to learn. But if you want to survive hundreds of days and make the “best solutions” to survive, you have to play a long way to learn all the tricks. Graphically, the game is very beautiful and stands out from other survival games.

The game has been regularly updated and bugs have been fixed on a regular basis, meaning Hinderland is listening to the community.
I personally hope the last part of the story will be as good as all four previous ones.

As a result, I can say that this game is one of the best survival games I have ever come across, and I hope that the game will continue to evolve into a fully released game.

I only bought the game after the story mode was implemented. Before that, I had already seen the game on some streamers and knew that the pure survival mode would just drive me to despair.

I like to play for the story, the game world or for characters and I'm not one of those people who have to constantly put themselves on the line. Also one of the reasons why I never played Dark Souls.

The game is beautifully made and the story is also very interesting. The slow walking across the map can be very tiring at times, but it's also part of the immersion somehow.

When I was done with the story mode, I even started the survival mode. :)

A true work of passion. The developers of this game have really taken their time over many years, to make a very immersive, deep, and cathartic game. Its the perfect combination of relaxation, fear, and survival, without the tedium of constant raw material collection (like the forest or subnautic, both great games, dont get me wrong.) There's just something about it. And its very rewarding the more you play - the more you learn the mechanics and the do's and don'ts, you become a better survivor, and last longer. But it is harshly punishing for new players - dont be afraid - the learning curve is steep at first, but quickly you will learn the basics. The punishing elements never get less harsh, but the risk around them becomes manageable - your decisions have consequences - make a bad gamble, and you pay for it, learn something and start over. Not to mention, the game is MASSIVE, varied, and very customizable. Like to take it easy - great game. Like to be on the edge of death every moment - harder difficulties will deliver. And the campaign is beautiful, and compelling. Can wait for the conclusion. I have played this game for a total of 680 something hours over the years, and just got the 500 day achievment, and still love it. Might just start over right now.

I absolutely love this game. It is almost difficult to put into words or put my finger on exactly why I love it as much as I do but TLD is honestly one of the most fulfilling gaming experiences I have ever had. The only other game that I have really fallen this hard for is maybe The Witcher 3. I am not certain if it is the art style, the music, or just the primal emotions that the game's survival aspects tap into; I suspect it is the perfect combination of the three. Whether I have been out hunting, cooking at the campfire, scavenging for supplies, exploring new areas, lost in a blizzard, reaching the summit of Timberwolf Mountain, or simply managing to make it through the day I have had so many special moments that have made me stop and take pause that I can't help but think that others will love this game too!

I no longer exist in the real world, the only world I know is that of the Long Dark. I've been scavenging for days and an ice fishing cabin is the equivalent to heaven. Wolves know me and I know them. The stars have seen more of me than anyone else. Another day, or has it been two? I know longer know

I've been playing this game since it was in Early Access. In fact, it was the very first Early Access game I ever bought. There were only two or three regions to explore, and story mode was still years away. I'm not even sure anyone knew there would be a story mode at that time. You couldn't win; you could only avoid dying for as long as possible.

The first time I played, I wandered around, gathered what meager resources I could find, got a fire going, crawled into my bedroll, and managed to avoid being torn apart by a wolf...because I froze to death in my sleep after the fire went out. A wolf almost certainly tore me apart shortly thereafter.

I loved it.

And I still love it to this day. An immense amount of content has been added since those Early Access days. The game is now vast and absolutely gorgeous. It's also still quite unforgiving if you want it to be, although there are multiple difficulty levels if you'd like to see more of Great Bear Island before experiencing one of the myriad ways in which it can kill you.

As of right now (Sep 7, 2021), it's on sale for US$9.89 for a few days. but it's worth a lot more. If you haven't bought it yet, this is the time to do so. The developer has announced that the price will be going up once Episode 4 is released, so you're not likely to find a better deal on it for quite a while. If you even remotely enjoy survival games, you owe it to yourself to check this one out.

FYI - I only play survival and haven't tried the campaign so take that going forward from here.

This game has always been particularly special to me. It's challenging in all the good ways without artificial difficulty or otherwise BS mechanics. Chances are if you die, you know full well the risk you took. Walking out on ice, traversing common wolf hunting grounds or getting too close to a bear's den, not packing enough food or clothing, or just plain not being prepared and adequately equipped in your trek.

It's cathartic and peaceful in a way that not many games can capture. Between the wonderful sound design to the melancholic sight of long abandoned and destroyed villages, towns, and what otherwise was once a hustling and bustling human civilization, the crippling solitude and bleakness of survival is captured so beautifully in every area of this game and I love it. You are absolutely alone and faced with endless odds where everything can kill you, with no help coming, figure it out and survive if you can and that's a wonderful thing.

There's no morally grey or edgy dilemmas you face in this game like a lot of survival games try to capture and fixate on as a focal point of their design. It's just the raw and unforgiving aspect of survival against nature. The unrelenting cold, the wild predators that lurk about, how creative you can get with the tools and resources you're given, how well you can plan and how much of a risk you're willing to take for the reward you seek.

Cook your food, melt your snow, keep your tools sharp, stay warm, watch your back and always be prepared for the unexpected. You are alone and you're reminded of it every single harsh step of the way.

In my opinion the, by far, best survival game ever made.

Playing it is like a therapy. The atmosphere, the music, it's like you are there and on your own. Waking up at night, realizing there is an aurora, going outside and just look. It gives me the chills. It freaking love this game.

Most realistic survival game I've played, and really enjoyed this one. The sound effects and music compliment the game well and add to the immersion. Story mode great (so far). Really like the survival mode save mechanic, which forces real tension since you cannot 'reload last save' to try again - when you get killed, its permanent. Recommend not looking online at the maps and item spawn locations - the discovery of the unknown is the real joy of the game.

Getting the 500 days achievement after 500 hours of playing is so awesome.
I really like the art style of this game. Sometimes you just have to stop and look at those beautiful surroundings of yours.
The different difficulty settings in both Sandbox and Story Mode help new players to learn the game mechanics and give advanced players new challenges. I also like the events the devs add from time to time.
I'm really looking forward to Episode 4 of Story Mode. In the meantime I guess I'll just set new challenges for myself.

The Long Dark is one of my favorite games of all time and the one I've played the most. Atmospheric, relaxing, cozy and beautiful mixed with moments of desperation, fear and creeping death. Been playing for years with hundreds of hours and the awesome devs continue to put out free high quality updates. So much love for the folks at Hinterland, you're a classy bunch.

Refer to the store page for what the game is and features, I'll just throw out some hopefully useful impressions (for sandbox mode). Though difficult, exploring the world is rewarding and loot is randomized when you start a new run. Increasing your knowledge of the game and navigating without a compass or map (though you can draw one yourself in game) is also a great feeling. There is no base building but holing up in the various abandoned locations and making them home is pretty satisfying. Nothing like organizing all your equipment (which you can do in containers or by positioning items in the world) and firing up the stove in the trapper's cabin on a freezing endless-winter night. The level of detail and realism that comes with keeping yourself fed, hydrated, healthy and protected from the cold is very high. This can either be a pro if you like managing these systems often or a con as it could feel like a chore. The game features excellent custom difficulty settings to tailor your experience. Some animals in the game can hurt or kill you (wolves, bears, moose) but they can be toggled on and off. However, some more hardcore elements cannot be tweaked: map must be drawn over time and doesn't show your position, no compass, permadeath (yes), everything losing durability over time and with use, can't carry unlimited items, other stuff I'm probably forgetting. I think these things are part of what makes the game amazing but they could be too much work for those seeking a more casual experience. I usually play on relatively easy settings and once you're familiar with the game and its geography it can be simple to survive (as long as you don't do anything stupid) and immensely relaxing. But there are difficulty levels I still can't survive on and everything in between. Oh, also the music is beautiful.

I could go on forever about all the things I love about this game but suffice to say: if you like survival games that are on the hardcore side, in my opinion this is the absolute best.

The Long Dark has jumped the shark. The devs focused entirely on the wrong things and got ahead of themselves. You can't please everybody, so just focus on making a solid product and stop getting butthurt by detractors. Learn from them, because they actually care enough about the game to voice an opinion. The opposite of love is indifference. Now I can safely say I'm apathetic about the last episode. Just make a new game with the lesson/mechanics learned from this one.

Fix the core mechanics first, add more mechanics if it gets stale and for extra challenge, and keep it realistic, then work on the story. There was nothing wrong with the predux, you should've just fixed the bugs and polished the product, not overhauled everything. Of course people were upset it wasn't finished, but you can't be surprised by that if you chose to release it that way.

It's painfully obvious they're having budgeting issues.I appreciate that the chapters were free, but I think they really shot themselves in the foot with this approach. It should have been affordable DLC ($10) that brought the game up to full release price in their entirety. I'm not a cheap bastard. If I like a game, and I want more of it, I will buy the DLC. I feel most players are reasonable like this, and the ones that aren't will just grab it off the high seas and (should) buy it if they like it.

And why, for the love of god, do you not allow modding? Are you seriously so oblivious to this opportunity for free development, talent recruiting, and ideas? Good mods keep games relevant. Over-controlling developers kill their own games with their singular vision that cannot, by definition, please the most amount of people.

The only way mods don't make sense is in competitive games that only have official servers. In a creative, story-driven game, mods can only help. If you really are so averse to mods, then make game-breakingly awesome content that makes them irrelevant.

There are so many survival games on Steam that I felt very reluctant in trying The Long Dark. My first impression basically was: “Yay, another boring survival game without depth... wow, a snowy landscape... how daring!” And I was so wrong.

The sandbox mode is nice and atmospheric. If feels desolate and hopeless. The graphics are nice and the music is really fitting. The game has some really great mechanics. It puts so many obstacles in your way that survival seems hopeless most of the time. The weather is unpredictable and unforgiving. Being outside in a snowstorm could become deadly very quickly, especially if you can’t find shelter and run around like a disoriented headless chicken. You could have enough food, water and decent clothing and still get killed due to carelessness (break into ice & get mauled by a bear or wolf etc.). For a really challenging experience I recommend playing on the highest difficulty. That makes getting from one point to another more difficult. Behind every little hill could be a hungry wolf who would love to have a bite. Weapons and ammo are scarce and only in specific locations. If you want to make your own tools and ammo you have to travel a long way to find a smelter/anvil.

The story mode (Wintermute) is really well made. The story is really engaging and has interesting characters. I especially like the voice acting. We only have 3 of 5 episodes so far and I can't wait for the next update.

Actually a pretty decent game. While I much prefer survival mode over story, the storymode is not as bad as I saw some people say it was. It isn't some masterpiece of a story, but it isn't bad or anything, and it's good for teaching you the basics for survival mode.

Edit: So far the only storyline I vastly despise is Chapter 2 with The Old Bear. It feels very much out of place to me and I do not really vibe with it.

Now. Let me be clear that I believe this game has the potential to be something great. There is a certain charm, and appeal to its artstyle, music score, and more importantly setting that breeds a sort of interest in me that allowed me to put hundreds of hours into this game. I want this game to succeed desperately, but at the current moment I don't see a bright future in that regard. Atmosphere and style alone isn't enough to make a game. It's merely the start to constructing the game. Without anything to add onto said style and atmosphere, you'll eventually grow tired of it.

I tend to believe I stand in this crowd as of now. This game has been in the works for 7 or so years. I got into it around the mid point with this game being one of the very few games I could actually run on my former skeleton of a rig. So it holds a special place in my heart, and it's why I sank so many hours into perfecting my strategy and waited with bated breath for more. But there in lies the problem. I waited. And waited. And waited a bit more. Years and years went by and work seemed slow at best, a snails pace at worst. In the game's current state, we stand with 3 chapters of the Wintermute story which in of themselves have.. Issues..

Wintermute is passable when it comes to trying to integrate a story into a survival game. I applaud that they were able to manage it frankly. But what's there now is a very linear, walking simulator with dialogue sprinkled in and the frequent meeting with Methusula the Meth head. I still to this day don't understand his position in the story. It just seems like he's there to be a mysterious, dialogue spouting, but vague character that seems out of place to a setting like this. It's never elaborated on why he knows so much or more importantly if he's even real to begin with. We only get few passing regards before we move on. I was, frankly optimistic around the revamp of Episode 1 and 2 that Hinterland would flesh out Methusula a bit, perhaps add hints to who he was or if he was at all real or a figment of our possibly damaged mind. No luck. Mixing this fact with the long walks from map to map, with very little emphasis on actual survival and prep.. You tend to find yourself just looking around at the sights and forgetting about any dialogue or story writing which after the first 10 times.. Gets stale. Fast. There is nothing that drives you forward to continue, that's if you wish to ride along the rollercoaster of twists and turns the story takes.. As if it was written by a headless chicken.

Survival mode falls to the same issues in some regard in losing it's interest around halfway through once you've established yourself. Despite playing through 'As the dead sleep' which is touted to be Interloper on speed, it always seemed to come down to the same loss of interest once you've established yourself. Once you've got a strong footing.. Found a weapon, tools to cut meat and enough sticks to light the entirety of Canada on fire.. We again return to the walking simulator. Maybe 1 or 2 predators along the way but usually you can go around them with a wide berth, or outright just shoot them dead with a well placed bow draw or crack of a rifle. There in lies the problem. The initial hump of the game is the only challenge that you have to overcome. Once you step beyond it, the rest of the game is a breeze. By that point, you just use it to grind out achievements or badges. There is no supplement anywhere or incentive to move around the world when supplies run low. Usually once you find a nice place to sleep in, that's your base, with only a few times when the arbitrary 'Cabin Fever' debuff comes in and you have to go sleep outside in that snow-hut you build for a day. Even with dwindling numbers of food sources you won't tend to find yourself coming close to death unless you really screw up somewhere. Which, if you know the game like the back of your hand.. It's far too easy to avoid it.

Even something as simple as finding randomly generated notes to stashes or following the blood trail of a wounded survivor to his resting place. An end goal to escaping Great bear through means of flare gun signaling or using wood and metal to create a boat to float to mainland Canada.. Just anything. I don't care, add god damn air drops for all I care. But something. SOMETHING has to be there to make moving a more profitable venture, rather then a drain on resources. A mix of risk reward where, you'll be rewarded with bounties of more equipment but have to first make it to the locations of these stashes, drops, or loot crates through thick and thin. Because otherwise, the best lifestyle to live is not nomadic. It's sedentary. Staying in one safe spot, living off the land around you and spending 50% of the time in loading screens as you wait through 8 hours of nothing. And there is no fun in that.

Accounting for all this, this isn't where my gripes end. I direct this more towards Hinterland and their past practices and actions that have made me raise a brow to their thinking. Like many before me have stated, Hinterland has stood firm on many hills that, frankly aren't worth dying on. Modding for instance, is one where Hinterland should have seen the ability modders have to make a game grow in longevity. No such luck. There was of course the fiasco with GeForce Now when Hinterland ruled that they alone were the ones who could decide if you could use your computer or a Virtual machine, and that the consumer must first be bequeathed the blessing of 'GeForce Now Permission' from Hinterland. Where money could have been used on a game which has had a slow development, instead was used on other ventures that Hinterland as a company wanted to do. Not what the consumer wanted. The consumer of course, would want the money to go to finishing and developing the game. Leave the charity and donations to non-profits for AFTER your game is finished. Not during. It makes a company look bad. Mr. Ralph on twitter has been very brash to people who wish to criticize his game, even if it's attempting to be constructive and genuinely help the game grow. I know it sucks to be told you're wrong, but as a game developer you need to understand that by selling this game to people in early access you have to listen to your worst critics. Because usually, the worst critics are the ones who want the game to succeed. Including myself.

I genuinely will by all means give this game a shake if things change for the better but, in the current course it flows.. The Long Dark has remained unopened even after the addition of a new map. Because I know that I will only get about 20 minutes of exploring time to enjoy it, before we return to that same mediocre loop. Please, from a genuine rooting fan of the game.. Listen to your community. Try and push to develop and finish the game. People have waited 7 years expecting results and we have only gotten around the halfway mark to completion in those 7 years.

Just give us more, because each year we crave to have more to this game and people's patience thins...We crave to find more substance in this cold, quiet apocalypse... But lest, we never find it.

I bought this game in early access back in 2014, and I've returned to it every year - usually during the winter. I've always been impressed with the atmosphere and tone of the game, the immersion it provides, and the way it refuses to hold your hand. It's only been now, though, after finally ascending to the summit of Timberwolf Mountain almost 7 years later, that I think I can articulate what I love about it.

The game is complex, although it deals with very simple objectives. Find food. Drink water. Don't get lost. You're forced to look at the game on a per day, sometimes per hour scale. This means that everything you do, every little hunting trip or errand run, every foray into a new region, is a tremendous risk while still being completely grounded and relatable. And it means that when you go on an adventure it feels like a genuine adventure.

When I broke away from my little hidey-hole in the farmhouse and set off to completely unknown territory, I felt it. When I hid out in a snow shelter for 8 hours weathering a blizzard, I felt it. Finding that miracle deer carcass, losing my last arrow to stop a charging wolf, climbing rope after rope and cliff after cliff under the light of the aurora - holy shit did I feel it. This game is pure, bottled, real life, man vs. nature, oldest story ever told adventure, and I absolutely love it.

THE LONG DARK

A LONG STRUGGLE IN NATURE

Dark and cold, can you survive these harsh conditions?

The Long Dark is an exploration-driven, survival, and simulation game developed by Hinterland Studio Inc.
The game, which we tried to survive against all kinds of difficulties in natural conditions, successfully came out of early access and gave the players more than expected.
The Long Dark, which managed to attract attention with its detailed structure and realism, is a game that deserves the positive comments made.
Every detail, from body temperature to calories taken, is of great importance for survival.

A great twist on the survival genre. I went into it blind, expecting something similar to other survival games I played, but it turns out in this one your only objective is to stay alive.

There's no building mechanics in this one. Instead you are isolated in a desolate frozen landscape and have to fight against mother nature to survive as long as possible. It can be very slow and methodical, and to a point its pretty realistic too. Your focus is on keeping your energy, hunger, and thirst under control. Some days you won't do anything other than catch fish and cook them, other days will just be scouting expeditions. You might get stuck in a cave for a while as a blizzard causes white-out conditions. Carrying medical supplies and fire starting equipment is a must!

I would highly recommend this game to anyone looking for something slow and easy to play while watching a show. Or if you want to escape from the disaster that is the real world for a while.

Do I recommend this game? Definitely!

This game divided into three parts: survival mode, story mode and challenges. I'll mainly focus on the first so I'll give a brief summary of the latter two. Story is episodic with five episodes in total. Three of them have been released and a fourth is supposed be released in the near future. Challenges are what the name implies: i.e. spend x amount of time in specific locations around the game world or gather supplies for a really bad storm.

Survival mode is my favourite mode and where most of the replay value is in my opinion. I'll start by talking about your needs which are warmth, fatigue, thirst and hunger. If one them goes to zero you wont die immediately. Instead you start losing condition (= your health bar) by a certain amount per hour. Little bit of advice for beginners: you can basically ignore everything else except warmth. This kills you now while the rest kill you later. Just don't let more than one of your needs get to zero at once. This game also rewards exploration. You wont find everything you need to survive in one region. Tools, weapons and high-end clothing items are scattered around the map and it's up to you to find them. Also the map knowledge you acquire is important if you want to play harder difficulties.

Speaking of difficulty there are four predetermined settings plus a custom one which you can tailor to your liking. The predetermined ones are (from easiest to hardest): pilgrim, voyager, stalker and interloper. I'll give a short summary on each.

Pilgrim: Lots of loot, mild weather, hostile wildlife (wolves, bears, moose) wont attack you unless provoked. Good for exploration.

Voyager: Similar loot to pilgrim, weather's slightly worse, hostile wildlife will stalk you if they see you and attack you if they get too close (you get a 24 hour grace period at the start though). Balanced experience that doesn't punish mistakes too harshly.

Stalker: fewer loot, bad weather, lots of pretadors. You better know which areas are safe from wolves.

Interloper: Basically for masochist. Absolutely no room for error.

One thing I couldn't fit anywhere else but wanted to say anyway is that this game can be really pretty. Especially at sunrise with bright red colours everywhere.

This game isn't without any flaws though. There are currently a few bugs but nothing game breaking. The main one is your key bindings resetting after each session. There is no jump button aswell (something to do with the game engine) so you can get stuck at places.

The game is really good, the artstyle is nice and runs at a solid 60fps on Ultra despite my old GTX 1050.

The story is pretty interesting, lots of suspense and mysteries and I have uncovered none of them, I just keep discovering new mysteries. There are currently 3 episodes out of 5.

The gameplay is very very realistic, you can interact with almost everything. If you like survival that's your game. Crafting, scavenging and managing your resources are obviously key features of The Long Dark.
But it's also very slow, the map is pretty big and travelling is quite a pain, gotta stay heated, hydrated, well fed, sleep and be cautious of wildlife. The game isn't forgiving, a slight mistake can quickly lead to your death.
It is also being updated frequently adding new awesome features!

In conclusion I really love the game, but you just need to be very patient.

After over 1000 hours spent on this game I have thought: why did I not write a review yet? Probably because getting immersed in The Long Dark you discover each day something new. But here it is: The Long Dark isn’t your typical zombie survival game. You get an even more challenging opponent: the nature. After a geomagnetic storm, the climate of the earth has changed and you have to survive no matter what in the harsh weather that keeps throwing challenges at you each day. Zombie apocalypse? Neah. Trust me I have played a lot of survival games, old and new and this one is by far my favourite. Being lost in blizzard without seeing almost anything, the cold decimating your body as you struggle to advance slowly with you clothes starting to freeze and the nearby sound of growling wolves beats any survival experience. The game has a set of skills which you can improve as a human being. You need to learn how to cook, start a fire, fish, craft clothes from the animals you hunt, gadgets to fight the nature, and lately even ammo for your guns. And each day you discover new places to visit in this deserted world. Just you and the nature. But at the end of the day, after you have gathered a few more supplies, cooked your food, made sure you have enough water supply and firewood, you can take a second to admire the beautiful landscapes that the Canadian wilderness has to offer you. Or even get out of your shelter at night to watch the sky filled with stars or the aurora borealis if you are lucky
After soo much time played i can assure you you will still have a lot more to learn about The Long Dark. The visual and audio effects of the nature are gorgeous, the music steps quietly sometimes to beautify your surroundings and each new zone you explore becomes part of your memory. Cause yeah, you create your own map of your steps, you have to remember key locations on each area , and the dangers they come up with. I have found tons of strategies of how to avoid/kill the wolf packs, hunt a bear or a moose. And trust me when I say this. The hostile animals can be unforgiving when you venture outside to ensure your survival. You have to make sure your guns are ready, you have proper clothing to survive a fight without much dmg taken, and of course check out that you have a sunny day to venture outside. WHY? Cause you only have one chance at this. If you die it is game over and you have to start again from scratch.
You can see the devs poured their hearts and souls on this one. Starting from a small team, Hinterlands has managed to create an outstanding game over the passing of time, to start the storyline campaign and they struggle each day to give the players something new. Even in these pandemic times we live in. As opposed to other survival games that got stuck in early access, The Long Dark si still moving on. Each year you get new areas to explore on survival mode and the storyline, although slow is still progressing. Apart from that you get challenges and when I say challenges you will find out what I mean if you play the game. Getting chased by an old bear full of arrows through the blizzard, without having enough time to get proper clothes, food or other supplies beats any horde of zombies in my opinion. But, hey, that is just my 2 cents about it.
I could write you things about this game all day, all night. I could even make video guides that would make others’ pale in comparison. But wouldn’t it be more fun if you discover what you are build of? If you are not a patient person and you tend to slack off on a survival game, don’t buy this one. The nature will take you as her price in an instant. It is as close as it can get to surviving in real time conditions in the cold. Experienced survivalists have tried this one and they were amazed. Of course, you need to be mindful that this is still a game, not the real stuff. But still, an awesome experience. A lot of players invested time in it to create guides and maps for the areas you explore, so yeah, you can get a lot of help now if you need it. If not, do as I did, and try to make your own memory line of this game. It will become a small part of you
I wrote this review now because Christmas is near. And yeah, I tend to play a lot more than usual this game during winter season because it’s nice to open you window, look at the snow outside and then get back to the wilderness in The Long Dark. Trust me, it’s the best Christmas present for you survival game fans out there

The Long Dark is a game about surviving in the northern Canadian wilderness after an event that has rendered terrestrially generated electricity inert. I have no particular love for games in the survival genre, they just don't click with me for the most part, but this game managed to charm me where most others haven't.

The main points of praise I have for this game are its gorgeous artstyle, well crafted atmosphere, and the pacing of the gameplay. The artstyle really speaks for itself; instead of going with a rote realistic style, Hinterland went with a more painterly style that gives the game a unique visual identity, and makes it frankly very easy to take some really nice screenshots. The atmosphere is absolutely top notch, from the groan of a house settling during a quiet morning, to the creaking of trees in the wind, to the dull roar of a blizzard outside of the cabin you've borrowed as your fireplace cricks and cracks. The gameplay consists of gathering and crafting, with the extent of basebuilding amounting to tidying up the larger junk littering a building you've taken a liking to. As the game is set in a forever winter, there's no farming or gardening, and there's pretty limited means to survive in one place indefinitely, meaning that most of your time is spent moving forward and exploring new areas, or preparing yourself for the next trek. The pacing of the exploration is tranquil with bouts of nervousness and intensity from the threat of wolves and bears, respectively depending on whether you spotted them first and managed to avoid them, or they got the drop on you. I found I really liked the lack of basebuilding, as in most games that feature it, I'd end up over-building a really good base, and then burning out on the game, whereas this game forces me to go out and explore its beautifully crafted world.

There is a storymode, but as of writing it's still incomplete, however unlike a lot of early access games from the era The Long Dark hails from, it's still being worked on. Even without the story being complete, I'd describe it as an indirect tutorial for the main mode of the game, which is its freeplay sandbox, which has already been very strong for years, and is still seeing updates alongside the storymode.

TL;DR: The Long Dark is one of the best survival games you can possibly buy. It is extremely immersive, has one of the best sound designs of the survival genre, has a great artstyle, the gameplay is super fun, replayable and have great difficulty scalability, and have both an episodic story mode and survival mode. I would only advise against it if you're after a combat centric survival game, if thats the case, maybe stay away from it, this game doesn't offer that. Green Hell and The Forest would be more of your jam.

The Review

If the original Subnautica had not conquered my heart already, I think The Long Dark would be up there. The good news is, that they both make for an excellent (if not the best) pair of survival games.

The Story (no spoilers)

To start off, TLD has two game modes, the Survival mode which I've played extensively (and didn't do everything yet) and the episodic story mode called Wintermute, which I'm playing right now and loving every aspect of it, It has an amazing soundtrack, great writing, three different choices of difficulty, and a mysterious plot featuring a bush pilot named Will Mackenzie and his ex-wife Dr. Astrid Greenwood trying to get to a remote isle north of Canada, which is interrupted by a geomagnetic storm that brings down their plane and everything that uses electricity to work. The pair will be separated and you will meet strange people on the remote, quiet and extremely cold but beautiful Canadian wilderness while trying to find her.

The Player

When talking about the player, TLD simulates cold, exhaustion, thirst and hunger using a caloric system. All of them affects your general condition (the player health), which can be recovered by having all 4 attributes in good conditions, but recovers mostly while sleeping. The exhaustion and cold are the most important ones, since they are the ones that decay the fastest and can kill you VERY quickly.

Gushes of wind, breaking thin ice and falling on water, spending a long time out in snow storms, falling from exhaustion while outside, not wearing appropriate clothing and etc will all make you loose temperature faster and can give your hypothermia (which will reduce your condition even faster). Failing to find shelter soon and managing to get your temperature back up, will make you meet your demise. Each area of the game has it's own temperature and weather patterns, and for the majority of the game you will be fighting the harsh coldness of the game.

As for exhaustion, pushing yourself for too long trying to find shelter, trying to climb a mountain while not having enough stamina, fighting wildlife multiple times and etc will all reduce your stamina, and at some point you will faint, if you managed to get to a shelter at that point you have a chance or survival, and if you didn't... well, you better start hoping you can even wake up.

The game has a plethora of adverse and beneficial conditions all based on your actions in the game, and they vary from just a nuisance to making your character completely defenseless from wildlife. Most of them have multiple ways of dealing with, either by taking medicine, making medicine or just resting it out.

The World

The world of TLD is... cold, very cold. It makes you feel alone and a lot of times completely lost, not knowing where you should go, while you try to find somewhere to take shelter and rest. The weather that can go from a sunny day to a windy afternoon soon to be covered by a snow, foggy storm, isn't even the only danger you will face. Wildlife like moose, bears and wolves all share the same space as you too, and while they are usually pretty easy to spot, you can be surprised, and when that happens you usually don't have enough time to run, resulting in an animal attack, which is a quick time event that will let you choose what to use to defend yourself. Depending on your choice, you will either slash, puncture or deal blunt damage to the animal, each having it's advantages and disadvantages. While a puncture wound will most of the times kill a wolf short after the attack, you will take a longer time to untangle from the wolf attack than if you otherwise had gone for a blunt attack.

The Hunting and The Combat

TLD doesn`t have real combat like The Forest or Green Hell for example, the struggles you will have with wildlife will be as close as you get to a combat, and thats ok! That game having no combat actually works out great for itself, since the stillness and loneliness nature of the game is one of the selling points of this game.

The hunting sits somewhere in the middle of being simple and complex, but levitates more towards being simple. You can shoot wildlife using a bow or rifle, animals have multiple hit zones that can kill instantly or make them bleed, you can use baits to attract animals, and you can track them using their blood or their footprints. Once dead, you can take their meat for consumption, and their skin and guts for crafting on workbenches after they cured inside for a few days.

Last but not least,

The Sound

If I am going to be honest with myself, I think I keep coming back to play this game just because of the sound design. It is SO good, everything you do, everything you pick up, everything you interact with makes sound. And it all depends on where you are and what is happening outside of where you are. The houses or buildings that you can enter have different sound profiles depending on the outside weather, if you are in a wood manor and there is a snow storm going outside, the windows will start to rattle violently, the house will become more squeaky and the sound of wind will be extremely loud, otherwise it will be extremely silent and the only sound you will hear is of your own growling stomach, your footsteps and the thing you interact inside. The base sounds (which is extensive) can also be dynamically modified if you`re inside somewhere with a lot of reverb, which further increases the immersion and attention to detail.

To Sum it Up

The Long Dark is a marvelous survival game, one which had an original idea and not only made it work, but made it work with an incredible amount of detail and maturity. First releasing the survival mode, smoothing out the rough edges and working on the survival aspects of the game, and then proceeding to work on the episodic story while managing to release seasonal content and updates for the survival mode. This is another must have for survival genre lovers.

It's my favorite survival game ever. It doesn't bother with Building, PvP, recipes, skins, or any of that. This is harsh winter survival. Things like temp, Health, food, water, fatigue are the aspects you must manage. There are no npcs in the Survival mode of the game. There is a story mode called WinterMute that is Episodic. 3 out of 5 parts of the story are available now. There are bunch of regions that interconnect (11 maybe? or more) and they are rather big. It's mostly about trying to survive with very little hand-holding. Also the Survival Mode is Perma-death. There are various difficulty settings and Custom options. It's a wonderful game and the art style and Immersion are amazing!

This game is great. I can't spend hours and hours on it at one time, it's too nerve wracking for that, but it's fun to hop on and play for an hour or two at a time.

There are two modes, story and survival. Story is still a work in progress with chapter 4 due out in the next few months. Survival mode has several difficulty levels from stupid-easy to why-am-i-torturing-myself-hard.

The game is easy to pick up but hard to master. Survival mode has no endgame except to survive. The enemy in this game is nature. Weather, wolves, bears and the occasional moose with wolves being the most prevalent are the challenges to overcome while attempting to stay warm and fed without accidentally killing yourself by doing something stupid, like drinking non-potable water or giving yourself food poising with spoiled food. It sounds boring, but is oddly fascinating and super challenging.

If you are considering getting this game keep in mind, this is a slow game. You spend LOTS of time walking through the snow keeping an eagle eye out for wolves and bears, and if you spot them, you then spend lots of time slooooowly creeping through the snow trying not to get their attention. Unless you are good at killing them, which I am not.

Bottom line, great game but not everyone's cup of tea. Their is a small but dedicated streaming community for this game, with most of them playing the hardest level on survival: interloper, and I highly recommend spending some time watching them play before purchasing.

Hands down my favorite survival game. I'd go so far to say Long Dark got me into the survival genre in general; I started playing this game back in 2017 and here I am 3 years later still playing. The art style is gorgeous, I really like the take on staying warm (instead of say, Green Hell and Ark which are/were opposite), the different mechanics within the game from the wildlife, plant life, thrill of stumbling on a new area you haven't been before, charting out maps in survival mode, the various difficulty levels in survival mode. Both the campaign and sandbox survival mode offer two totally different but amazing experiences within the same game.

Highly recommended to anyone who enjoys a solo survival experience.

There is no other game like The Long Dark. This game is hands down the most immersive, mentally stimulating, intriguing, and beautiful game I have ever played. I'm not an avid gamer, but I spend hours upon hours playing this game and I have yet to become bored with it. Despite the beautiful art style of the game, the creators add in the perfect amount of suspense and haunting sound elements to have you at the edge of your chair even while walking through a seemingly inviting and stunning landscape. The Long Dark is for anyone else like me; I yearned for a game that didn't need zombies, cannibals, or other out of place entities to create a suspenseful environment. The combination of weather, wildlife, and the sheer feeling of isolation provide a much more engaging environment than any other survival game I have ever played. One thing to keep in mind: The Long Dark is a quite slow paced game. It involves lots of thought and pre-planning to be successful. Some may like that, others may not, but I think anyone who loves this game as much as I do would attest to everything I have written above. It is 100% worth the purchase for any survival game enthusiast.

I recommend the story line.....not survival. I love this game. I love the story. I love the challenge. I love the realism--to a point. I could care less how many times i get monkey stomped by the weather or an animal that in real life wouldn't come near me. What I do care about, and what this game is lacking, is that it so wants to be a survival game, but stops just over the proverbial grand canyon. Fire by Friction. This story mode of this game is everything that you could want, and it's only 3 chapters in....but survival? You have a predetermined end. Even if you manage to scrupulously conserve your matches, and utilize the magnifying glass that you might be able to find on one of the 1% of days that have enough light, or the fire starter that also isn't repairable, survival is not open ended. Therefore it isn't survival, it's how long will the game allow you to live. Fix this, and it will be the best game I ever played. Don't, well, it might be just a fling.

Looking back at the game I noticed a lot of stuff has changed and improved. Going back into it after years of waiting the game has became much better and now it's possible to live much longer in-game thanks to the many updates over the past couple years. It's everything I want from a survival game that aims to be a more realistic depiction of a harsh winter environment.

Looking at the negative reviews I can see honorable reasons to down vote but I can also see quite ridiculous reasons onto why people don't like this game. As such, I feel like making one thing clear. How about instead of expecting the game to be some Minecraft/7 Days to Die spin-off maybe you should look into what the game actually offers rather than just using pure speculation by looking at it's cover? And please don't question other people's opinions about a game if you clearly have no clue yourself onto what the game actually is about.

I mean I did my research on this game back in the past and winded up being satisfied with my purchase thanks to it, but it's kind of lousy to just EXPECT a game to give a certain type of environment YOU want without doing the proper digging into what the game AIMS to be. It's like buying a dog and automatically expecting it to get along with your pet cat.

I like the game as it is EXACTLY what the game advertised to me. It's a barren snowy wasteland that doesn't hold your hand as you try to use what you can get your hands on to survive WHILE your character has no experience with the said environment. You can't just walk up to a tree and punch it down with your fists and build a house in the matter of minutes, you'd know that if you did your research into what the game is SUPPOSED to be.

Story short, do your bloody research before you buy something please.

The Long Dark is probably one of the best and most challenging survival games out there. It’s very atmospheric and beautiful, but can be also scary and difficult at times.

I started playing it in 2016 and I’ve seen a lot of improvement since then. This game pushes you to do better and be smarter each time and really tests your abilities and instincts.

If you want to test your survival skills, then The Long Dark is a great game for you. Definitely recommend :)

Almost a great game. I understand that this is supposed to be a survival game and not a hunting simulator but surely I can make a club or ANY improvised weapon with stuff lying around. Kind of breaks immersion when my guy is too stupid to pick up a branch to ward off wolves and other threats.

Welp, this game is problematic. You got food problems. You got thirst problems. You got wildlife problems. Everything is a problem in this game, and as it is a survival game, this feels wonderful. Currently playing the story mode and my lord it has so much stuff to do. The fact that the game saves LITERALLY EVERYTHING you do, including using resources (which don't respawn), killing wildlife (animal corpses freeze, stay where you killed them and don't despawn) makes this game really unique. The realism details, such as sprain risk while on slopes/carrying too much stuff, the risk of infection because of bites/claws, makes you think twice before charging against animals. Thats a solid 5/5 for me.

The wolves ate my clothes. Running butt-naked in the freezing wind killed me before the infection from wolf bites did. Not the way I imagined my life in this wretched place would end.

The best survival game out there. Get it.

A fantastic, meditative experience. I often play this game whenever I am feeling down or just stressed out. Long day at work? Pop into some wilderness survival and live like Alexander Supertramp for a couple hours. It helps me stop thinking for awhile and lets me live out some Jack London fantasies.

The sound design in this game is something else. As a filmmaker I have to say I just really appreciate this particular aspect. The sound design is almost Cinema quality. Something about the crunch of snow under your boots, the distant howling of a wolf, the rush of the blizzard winds and your own shivering breath as you desperately search for shelter... all of it serves to completely immerse you in the world.

The only thing that would make this game even better for me personally is perhaps a little more variety in food and cooking. An example would be stew, or perhaps the ability to smoke your meats and fish. That would let us preserve food longer and is what I would actually do if I were ever in a survival situation.

Oh and having a dog or a wolf pup to take care of would be awesome as well, but that's neither here nor there :)

This is probably a weird format for a recommendation, but I am posting my beginner experience with The Long Dark - Playing it for the first time during the Winter's Embrace Event in July 2020. By reading this, you can get an impression how it is to start playing this game, and you will realize that it will take some learning to survive. Which is the whole point of the game.

https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=2173782756

I am celebrating my completion of the Winter's Embrace Event!

This was rather tough, while learning the game. But fun as well. I own The Long Dark since it started into Early Access, but until this Event, I never found time to actually play it. I started with making many Sandbox games, until I stopped dying so quickly. Some of the things that killed me in my first games:

- I started with random location in Forlorn Muskeg, I ran around and found a broken railway line, started following it, then I noticed that froze to death and had no condition left.

- I started with random location in Timberwolf Mountain. I was in a cave, it was nighttime. I wandered out of it and discovered how fast a blizzard can suddenly reduce visibility and temperature to zero. I froze to death while wandering through trees I could barely see. Wolves howling in the distance.

- I started in Mystery Lake in a big open cave, I explored and found a sea and fishing huts. I tried to loot them. While I did that, a Blizzard started and I made a fire in one of the fishing huts. I had no firewood and when the fire goes out I would be freezing to death. So I decided ill just get out and collect a few branches or something to keep the fire going. But the blizzard instantly disoriented me after a few steps, and I had lost the fishing hut and the fire. I froze to death trying to find it again.

After some more tries, and failures ( and some wiki reading ), I started to understand the mechanics of Temperature, weather, clothing, food, etc. - Catching my first Rabbit with the stone was a big moment. I learned about snares and built one. I finally had a stable pilgrim difficulty game where I lived in Trapper's Homestead in Mystery Lake. I learned a lot there and explored finally without dying. Later I moved to the Camp Office.

And then I started with trying to complete the Winter's Embrace Event. - I froze to death several times really fast. It is so much harsher then the pilgrim easy mode I knew. You know, I had no feats like all the experienced players did either. - At some point I realized the things I had to do and the right order, and it all fell into place from then on. Once I had mended my clothing (and found better ones) and had shelter it was all not too hard.

Knowing the Pleasant Valley map by now a little bit did help as well, that's where I spent my 25 days for the challenge. Looting houses in Thomson's Crossing and spending time in the Community Hall, and also looting the Outbuildings Farm and then living in the Pleasant Valley Farmstead. Some Highlights of that run where:

- Killing my first Wolf with a Revolver in defense during a snowstorm.

- Getting my ribs broken on day 20 or so by a Moose that I ran into by accident.

- Trying to kill a deer with a revolver, and wounding it. Then loosing sight of it, never to be found.

- Getting lost in thick fog and finding a lake with a fishing hut that I did not expect.

- The Aurora, so weird, and cool, and scary, and pretty!

I am happy I played the game now and I am sure I play some more. There are many more challenges to do for me, and the story mode as well. Oh and I did take so many beautiful Screenshots.

Thanks Hinterland for creating this game =)

Note: this is for survival as story mode is unfinished.

I'm trying to understand what makes this fun. So far, it feels like a tedious hiking simulator. The core gameplay thus far has been strip looting an area to carve out a safehouse from which you can... go to other places and strip loot some more.

There's a lot of design decisions that I don't really understand. Looting is incredibly boring due to the real-life time it takes to complete. This is especially noticeable in larger locations like the dam. I am loathe to start a game in that area again knowing the time sink it is even though you clearly need to loot it completely to progress. The town is similar. Why not just a single-button loot command similar to how sleeping works? Why do I need to tediously hunt and click my way through buildings and floors? I really don't understand the joy of pixel hunting, I guess. That said, if there were actually threats in these buildings, things to fight off, avoid, etc., then the pixel hunt might make more sense.

Speaking of things that take too long, the weather in this game adds another element of tediousness. A snowstorm rolls in conveniently at the same time you find shelter. Great, time to shack up and read that skill book I found while dining on crackers and snow melt. Oh, a day later and the storm is still raging? Wonderful. Apparently, I've got nothing better to do but while away the time. At least the wolf packs have the common courtesy to get up and go after a few hours.

Wildlife is the only really exciting element so far, and it's a bit of a mixed bag. Wolves end up being more of a minor annoyance than a real threat. They don't seem to deal with the game's terrain well as you can often scare them off by taking high ground or wedging yourself into a rocky enclosure. Bears, on the other hand, are murder bots. I unloaded an entire revolver clip into one and it felt like flicking stones at it. Didn't even phase it.

A minor gripe is the inability to interact with most objects in the game. Why can't I chop up trees with the axe I found? Why can't I take wood from that abandoned house? Why can't I rip apart that bed for cloth? Why can't I tip over that port-a-potty for fun? For a sandbox game like this, it all feels a little too narrow and confined.

Overall, I wouldn't really recommend this game. I guess it's cool that part of my purchase went to some charities. The game might be more worthwhile when they finish the story mode. At least then it will have a point.

Beautifully cruel and brutal, The Long Dark, or TLD in short is a realism survival games which puts you into a cold, snowy map. Accompanied by wildlife and human ruins, you strive to survive in a harsh condition.

This game itself is one of the few brutally difficult games I've ever played, and I gotta say it's pretty nice. The game system are well-crafted and logical in most aspects. Body temperature, starvation, dehydration, wildlife, injury etc can kill you fairly easily in this game just like real life. To be good in this game you'll need not only knowledge, but experience too.

Graphic wise, this game offers beautiful snow scenery and is one of the reason why I bought this game. The graphic is decent even running on low settings, so it will not be a major problem for low end PC. If you're look for beauty in scenery, then this game is also for you, provided you can survive.

Immersive and captivating. My gaming desktop setup is fairly low key (one monitor, no fancy gizmos), and I've jumped out of my seat several times when a wolf or bear comes at me. It's hard to explain just how suspenseful the game can get. Story mode is well designed, and the sandbox mode has kept me entertained for hundreds of hours as well. This is a game I keep coming back to over and over again, especially because the developers have proven their commitment to the game with periodic upgrades, improvements, and new content additions. There is also a lot of flexibility with game play style: whether I just want some causal game play for a couple of hours, or whether I want to get deep into a challenge, this game will provide a satisfying experience.

This game is very dear to my heart. It makes you experience many different emotions while you learn more and more about it with every single time you find yourself in a desperate situation or even outright fail by succumbing to the wilderness.

This game will you feel nervous and sometimes even intimidated. But it will also win you over by making you feel happy from finding something you desperately needed. It will amaze you by making you see something that gets to you or calm you down once you sit in front of your fire with all the gear you need to survive the next days around you, as a storm rages on outside of your shelter.
It is rewarding if you are willing to give it more than a brief look.

If you like survival games that allow you to 'experience' your own journey.. then this is for you.
I can't do more than highly recommend it.

Ps: I´ve been playing this game since 2014/2015 now. Every now and then I turn it back on as it lures me back in with it´s calming charm.

To be clear, I loved this game to bits. Back in 2018 I heard of the rough relationship between modders and the devs from time to time, and how strongly against modding the devs were, but I never gave it much mind. After playing through extensive sandbox, and being disappointed by the episodic content, I loaded some mods in and was surprised by how invigorated sandbox became. I loved it the same way as when I first tried it. Hell, most of my play hours are probably thanks due to mods.

As of a later update, the devs decided to move the engine into a different direction, by changing the Unity backend from Mono to IL2CPP, which meant that modding became severely more difficult and is virtually dead. I saw an entire Discord server full of people with ideas and creativity go silent from a single update. It does not help that the devs never showed support for this part of the community, and even sometimes seemed to straight up despise it.

As of now, I don't want to recommend a game that denies the community the rights to experiement and modify a product they bought with their own money. The devs mentioned mod support long, long ago but it's gone the opposite of what was said. I respect the devs and their choice to do as they please with their own work. But I can't be bothered to force a positive attitude on something that, for me, received a straight up downgrade.

An amazing survival game with fluid mechanics. As punishing as you'd like it to be and just as rewarding. I couldn't explain the joy I had finally taking down my first bear without getting mauled or how sick I felt from parasite infection from eating too much said bear meat or the cabin fever I picked up while trying to cure said parasite infection. The game has a LOT of depth and it keeps you planning your every move. The Devs have been on top of things and have made some major improvements since I first bought it 2 years ago. 100% worth the buy whether you enjoy survival games, never played them or are looking for a change of pace game.
