Wirklich nervenaufreibender Horror!
Klare Kaufempfehlung!

Its atmosphere as well as its intelligent placed jumpscares are genious! I played it through in about 14 hours. That's a lot compared to other games for this price. And yes I agree, it needs a map and hints for what to do next, because sometimes I wondered where I have to go now or where this exact door was I was thinking of. But all in all it is a very good Horror-Game that got me good sometimes! And think about it, it is a Game made by 3 People (!!!) that's incredible!

1. Graphics & Performance
First of all, the developers did a great job at creating the map. I am amazed by the detailed intricacies decorated for each room confounded with good lighting. Although I noticed repeatedly used animations in some cutscenes, the animations themselves were decently simulated, sufficiently smooth to not ruin the impact of the cutscenes. Performance-wise, I'd only experienced one glitch that prevented me from entering a room along with what I assume is a developer oversight with the A.I. of one of the monsters but these are easily fixed by reloading a save.
2. Gameplay
The Dark Occult is your typical survival horror game which uses chiefly jumpscare elements rather atmospheric-wise but I wouldn't say the atmospheric horror isn't there, rather I find it lacking. Besides that, similar to some games, The Dark Occult features a lot of backtracking and coupled with sometimes oblivious clues can make moving around the map feel frustrating, especially if you are lost on where to progress which I experienced several times. It took me 15 hours to complete the game. On the other hand, the survival aspect of the game is rather simple and occurs at a rate I don't feel as a hindrance towards progression.
3. Story
Personally, I'd find the story pretty lacking. As a person who likes lore, I would've wished for a deeper or longer story but I guess, the gameplay itself compensated for enjoyment. Additionally, there weren't many discovered notes to relay such a story. However, the premise is quite decent so I still possess a little interest in indulging in the story.
Overall, the game was good (7/10) for a horror game. There wasn't much hindering glitches, it was difficult enough for it to be enjoyable and the great graphics and decent gameplay compensated for the lacking story.

Overall recommend for the spoopy atmosphere, good enemy variety (not much, but they were creepy doods). I think I died 69 times, but can't remember because it took so long to finish.
Some of the puzzles are really drawn out, and the end game lasts FOREEEEEEVVVVEERRRRR. But, it's definitely worth playing through if you like horror and puzzles, and have pretty decent patience.
My recco is based on price of $25 max. Get it on Steam sale, and it's a steal.
Enjoy!

Mansion is really big and I was lost whole time. I thought that I have good orientation, but this building is really complex. Drawing map is less time consuming then try to search where was doors or boxes. Next time if I will replay this, I will take paper and pencil and I will draw the map as I will go.
I used Proton to play this game and it worked really well. Game freeze two times for me. I think it is bug in game. I just closed game and started it immediately to continue.

It is a really scary game and the puzzles are many, beautiful and complicated at the same time
Give it one negative, it has a lot of bugs
I hope in the next game they avoid this problem
Thank you very much for this great game

if you are horror game addict and like to torture yourself like me, like a PSYCHO please buy this game with a terror mode, no maps in a labyrantic huge castle, like conjuring mansion, never ending long gameplay worths every penny you spent on.
We have a witch soul follows you till the end, a demon and creatures from hell with a satan cult , makes you play in a cool horror movie like..
But if you get anxiety easly , you don't have a good memory (for terror mode only) i don't suggest you to play this game.

Pros: Complex mansion to explore, doors to unlock. Fun puzzles. Excellent level design. Good jump scares and tense atmosphere. Last part of the game is awesome - very Silent Hill.
Cons: The randomly spawning demon that forces you to interrupt what you're currently trying to do and run to a safe room. It's a needless annoyance. Also, a couple frustrating get past the monster sections, although they're pretty easy once you know exactly what to do.

This game is legitimately scary. It also needs some love from the people who developed it because there are still some things that are causing serious problems for people. The game is pretty much perfect, the bugs just need squishing. <3
During my playthrough(which I am still trying to finish) I discovered that if you do things in the wrong order, you can break items like keys and make them impossible to pick up. This happened early in the game when I walked past the Aries key and around the table before trying to pick it up. When I finished exploring the room and returned to the key to collect it, it would not react to my mouse at all and I had to reload to 'fix' it. Annoying.
Then I encountered the bug that others have where loading a save somehow spawns the ghost inside of the room with you. Every. Time. So the save is now useless and I need to restart again. Even more annoying.
Those things aside, the game itself is f*cking amazing. The story is supremely creepy, the atmosphere nearly strikes me with incontinence, and I thoroughly enjoy wandering the house solving puzzles for keys.
This game is so scary that I have to take breaks to give myself the mental space to calm the f*ck down. I'm talking chest pains y'all. And I do NOT scare easily.
Grab it on sale, or roll the dice for full price my handsome devils. Pick your poison <3

I think most negative reviews are because the players these days wants every game to be straightforward, just walk, open doors, use weapons to defeat enemies and pass every chapter or part without thinking a lot. But this game (actually this is not a game it's a nightmare!!) brings back an era where the players used to think a lot to be able solve puzzles and progress through the game.
Also i can confidently say that this game will take you to another world of terror, confusion, tension and depression, especially if you play it in terror mode (in this mode there is no map so you need to use your memory to remember the places and puzzles, also enemies are more ruthless).
It has it's unique atmosphere unlike any other horror game i have ever played before, for example the element of surprise, unexpected events, the random nature of events and puzzles that will change continually makes the game unpredictable and harder.
At the end if you are a big fan of horror games you must add this game (or better said a nightmare) to your collection.

Throughout the game you will be tasked with finding (I'm not kidding here) 20 different keys with 34 unlockable doors, 6 voodoo dolls, 6 ouija pieces, 5 medallions, 5 artifacts, 2 crow eyes, 2 horns, multiple random safe combinations, a crowbar, a hacksaw, and multiple notes all peppered through the four massive maps laid out in front of you all the while where a random female creature can pop up at you at any time and nerf your gameplay. Not to mention all the other creatures that are out to get you every time you pick up an item that triggers their arrival. Multiple times the random female creature can pop in while you are trying to deal with the other creature making the completion of the task near impossible forcing a reload. There are also multiple closets and boxes throughout the entire game all over the map that could be housing an important item or two and you will be investigating them all to find those special items. If that is not enough when you have played by the rules and gotten near to the end they will throw an otherworldly and extremely long multi tier level to escape from before you can finally burn the artifact. There are plenty of moments where you'll get an important item and it will trigger a monster and the event to escape can sometimes be pretty easy while others will leave you reloading that save file more than once. It just takes so much out of the enjoyment of the game. The game would have been so much more enjoyable and more people would have bothered to complete it if it had been condensed more. In the case of this game less is more. It really is. I had some fun with it and I'm sure you will too but I think you will be annoyed by it the more you play. I would also like to point out that to get the full story you will have to find all the letters that are randomly laid out on tables. The story isn't great but with the visual and once you reach the true basement and put it all together the story is ok.
Nothing fantastic but it's alright. Buyer beware.
