Über das Spiel

Boston, 1979.

Interessante Erfahrung ohne Wiederspielwert.

Story

The Beast Inside vermittelt eine sehr düstere, creepy Atmo.

Alles in Allem: Nur weiterzuempfehlen.

Zunächst denkt man, man

This is a fantastic handle-tugging simulator, for those of us who really like pulling knobs.

The environment is pretty well detailed, and there's lots of drawers to tug on hoping for hidden clues. Everywhere you look, there's dirty chests, spacious boxes, creaky flaps, and crusty rods to wiggle, waggle, and work. If you're a fan of VR kitchens and appliance shopping, this is the experience you've been looking for. There's almost never anything interesting in any of the drawers, except for the occasional plot coupon, so you're never distracted from the action of opening and closing drawers for long.

The sound design and voice work are also pretty good quality, considering. Drawers creak, squeal, rub, and whine in a thoroughly realistic fashion. Almost as if you're really there, endlessly opening and closing drawers in the dark!

Sadly, there are a few segments without drawers or doors in them. Like the extended 'instant-death hide-and-seek' sequences, or the 'instant-death tag' parts. There's even a part where you shoot a ghost with a gun! The rest of the challenges just involve using letters and numbers to unlock drawers and doors, which will then be available to open and close to your heart's content.

Apparently there's a plot, but it was forgettable and didn't engage or excite at all. I'm sure it would have been more interesting, if it weren't for all the drawers and doors, crates and gates that really stole the show. In fact, I found myself a little sad every time a cutscene would happen, because it meant that there was more story and less drawer-y!

Definitely THE #1 knob-fondling experience of 2019.

I don´t know how I should rate it.
On the one hand it´s a brilliant game with a really interesting storyline.
It has a great dark atmosphere and easy but still good puzzles for a horror game.
The sounds fit too and a few jumpscares got me xD

But on the other hand there are some huge issues with the controls and the performance.
The loading screen feels like forever.
It was laggy at the worst moments when you were being chased or had to fight.
Cutscenes that just destroy the feeling and unnecessarily prolong fight scenes.
The controls were often too slow and frustrating.

I still had fun with The Beast Inside.
So I would say it´s worth buying when you really like horror games and it´s on sale.

The Beast Inside is a remarkable survival horror (an open world walking simulator with some puzzles, and a dash of stealth and QTE).

The atmosphere is outstanding, both for its quite good graphics and for its magnificent soundtrack. In addition, it has some amazing jump scares and, most importantly, a story told in a very attractive way that hooks you from the beginning.

In short, I would say that it is a much better game than I expected.

Highly recommended if you like the genre.

I really liked the story and the role of the detective, the dark and creepy atmosphere, jumping from the 19th to the 20th century in the story. What leaves a bitter taste in my mouth is solving puzzles in the game. Some of them are very difficult and frustrating, so arm yourself with patience. Definitely my recommendation for this horror game, 8/10

Warning: The Beast Inside is not a Reverse Horror game and
the beginning scene is a lie. The final moments contradict it in favor of multiple abrupt endings.
You should also know that there is no New Game+/Level Select feature once you beat it. Which is probably it's biggest miss out.

What it is however is a modern western horror movie feeling, mystery. With a multi-layered story and multiple approaches to gameplay. (Adventure, Survival Horror, Minor Haunted House Sim) Nothing novel, but I would be lying if I said I wasn't entertained. Sometimes that's all a horror game needs, to be fun.

I advise keeping those expectations limited to the indie tier and my descriptions above. For the best experience.

Additional clarifications due to misleading or confusing reviews I've encountered:

- It's not a multiplayer game because there's likely been tag abusers involved.
- It's not a walking simulator. (Every game that has slow atmospheric exploration is labeled one nowadays. It is an often disingenuous and inaccurate critique. By that definition, Amnesia The Dark Descent is also one.)

The Beast Inside | ★★★★☆

I played the demo of it before while it was still in Early Access.
Basing my experience on that; It was just an average horror puzzle game that relies on jump scares. Which put me on a low expectation mindset before playing it (full), and also mainly because of how cheap it is (90% off).

Then after I finished it in three days: I would have boldly assumed that this is not an Indie game if I didn't know anything about it. Game Direction, Voice Acting, Puzzle and Writing that could be easily par with Triple A titles if it's somehow has a bit more budget.

A great work by Illusion Ray Studio that makes me curious and enthusiastic about their next project.

Just not a very good game. Cheap jump scares are one thing, which I'll ignore, but it's just so.. insipid. Any spook factor was lost when you start having a gunfight with a fire zombie. Just.. what? Mix in Communist conspiracies and absolutely gormless characters, it makes for an exhausting, annoying slog.

I beat this game just to see if could redeem itself. It didn't.

Tone is inconsistent. It tries to be a straight survival horror game, then, as mentioned, an extended shootout with a fire zombie. Then, later, dodging freezing blasts from an ice zombie. Weird mixtures of direct combat, poorly-telegraphed directions, and/or staggeringly simply and arbitrary puzzles. There were some good, creepy moments in the beginning, but they wear themselves out within the first 30 minutes after the 10th jump scare. Attempting, to mix survival horror, psychological horror with straight-up supernatural wizard ghosts. Simply doesn't work.

Platforming sections are inconsistent. Jumps are janky and broken as hell. Sometimes you have to simply walk over gaps, sometimes you run over gaps, sometimes you can jump over gaps, but if you guess which way is wrong (or even if you get it right), the awkward handling can make you repeat the same obnoxious jump over, and over, and over, and over.

Enemies are inconsistent. Some one-hit kill you, some injure you, others are just sort of a vague nuisance. It's up to you to figure that out as the game sees fit. I'm going to simply gloss over the invisible water monster a la Amnesia. Same concept with absolutely none of the controls, gameplay options, and/or ambience needed to make that swamp section worthwhile.

Camera is inconsistent. The game often pulls your controls away from you to focus on something, which is almost always a sign that they couldn't better telegraph the next steps. How many times does the game force you to focus on a crank in nearly-identical chase sequences? I've honestly lost count.

Stealth sections are arbitrary. It's not there until it is, then just as suddenly stealth isn't an option anymore and you just have to go with it.

I'm not going to comment on the story, as it's.. fine? Absolutely adequate, just the gameplay itself is frustrating, boring, and unsatisfying all at once.

Small, last gripe: For being a puzzle-heavy exploration game, the fact you never actually get to see all rooms in the house is a subtle but constantly frustrating restriction. Who would have so many locked doors in their own house?

pros
[1] good graphics for UE4 engine
[2] good sounds

cons
[1] bad story where you will know what is going on very early of the game.
[2] unnecessary amount of QTE events and sometimes in inappropriate situations. (why do you need multliple QTE events when you are climbing slowly a well? what is the rush?)

get this game when it goes below 10$ mark if you are a fan of survival horror games. else its not worth the money.

The Beast Inside features dual narrative storytelling. There are two characters you will play as: Adam, a US decryption expert who moved to his family house for a secret project and has to deal with a Soviet spy that haunts his family; and Nicolas, Adam’s grandfather, who struggles to distinguish illusion and reality, tries to find out his obscure past and the “family secret”. Their stories are largely separated but also interconnected to reveal their fates as a whole, showing as four different endings.

Even aside from the dual narrative, this title is a rather unique walking simulator. Walking simulator as a genre has a common weakness – they are not that “playable”. In most walking simulators, you basically just walking, doing some light interaction, and seeing the story happen. But for The Beast Inside, they did a good job in mixing different gameplay to spice things up. You have those basic three elements, as well as shooting, stealth, escaping, QTE and puzzle-solving. These different sessions largely decrease the tediousness from lacking interaction, despite they are not all great (shooting and stealth are very terrible). The puzzle-solving in this game, however, is a gem - they are interesting, challenging and very innovative, and well fit with the setting of Adam as a decryption expert. It also has survival element when playing as Nicolas – you need to collect matches and lamp oil in case running out of light. But it is too forgiving to be of any importance in the actual experience so I just count it out. In general, I really like the way they did to make the game more fun, interactive and “playable”.

Map design is worth mentioning as well. Technically, it doesn’t have some very exquisite map design, but compared to most walking simulators that just use simple and straight-line linear maps, for most parts of this game, you have a large, opened map to traverse. It is a breath of fresh air by comparison. And no matter how the map opened, the game always finds a way to put you back on the right track and you don’t get lost. I think it tells something about the effort they put into designing the map.

The game is not without its downsides though.

I like the dual narrative method, but the story is a bit lackluster despite it has an interesting twist. I had some hard time following what the protagonist is doing and what for (mainly in Nicolas line) because the plot is kind of obscure. A lot of documents were placed in different scenes to supplement that, but unfortunately, I don’t think many people would have the patience to read those gigantic piles of words (I skipped all; in-game text needs to be succinct). To make matter worse, the presentation lacks impact. Some scenes are supposed to be shocking, instead, it was just like “okay, that happened”, failing to capture my attention and make me care about the story, which is mainly why I find the story not engaging.

For a horror game, I always appreciate great atmosphere and despise lousy jump scare. I can see the game has tried, yet the atmosphere building is just undelivered. Instead, it uses cheesy jump scares constantly, making it even more underwhelming.

I have to talk about graphics even I don’t usually put much attention to them. You can have some stunning still scenery shots because the lighting effects are extraordinary (I use one as wallpaper). But on the flip side, this comes at the cost of being the worst optimized game I have ever seen. You need at least a mid-to-high-end machine to maintain good frame rates. Even for a high-end machine, you can hear the fans really ramp up to run it smoothly (but still throttles sometimes). And other than those far, still scenery shots, this game doesn’t look good. Textures and models look terribly rough, even worse than many games in PS3/Xbox 360 era. Graphics as a whole package is awful.

The game also has a tiny technical issue that the voice volume is not constant. You need to turn up the volume to hear things clear on some occasions.

I took a long break before finishing the game due to the story, but in general, I like the experience. I can understand the constraint an indie developer has, which probably explains why graphics, optimization, shooting and stealth are so bad. I do think the story and atmosphere should have been better, but I really appreciate the narrative, the mixed gameplay, the map design and those well-crafted puzzles. The developer did something different than other games in the same genre, and I think it is the right direction for an individual game as well as the whole genre.

Very interesting horror game. Decent playtime, very good atmosphere and story. Two alternating timelines. Gameplay elements are classi for this genre, there is lot of interactivity, graphics are also good. Sounds and soundtrack aslo on a high level. Even though the story is fascinating, it is not very scary (but there are some moments with great scary atmosphere, but not very scary overall) But there are lot of jump scares if you like this sort of thing. 4 different endings and its mainly up to you to interpret them think about what all has happened. Finished it around 8 hours and i can recommend it. Good game.

Probably one of the best indie horror games i've ever played. 3£ game, 9 hours of gameplay. Very decent graphics, amazing story and atmosphere, great performance. Only few of the games were able to make me JUMP OUT OF MY CHAIR, this is one of them :D

Generally it's decent. A very nice world to explore, although it's quite linear. Some odd game design choices in there that kind of drag it down. There's a lot to like but I feel like it never really hit the heights it was going for. On decent sale you'll get a solid play through out of it (8-10hrs worth). Also baffling when you finish there's no individual chapter select for replay, it's right back to the beginning again (unless you've got your steam save copied from the folder to copy/paste). Given there is multiple endings etc it's just worth noting for achievement hunters.

I'll start by clearing the air where I choose to put a positive review yet I have some confused mixed feelings about this game.

It leaves me in a strange place. On one hand, I had a lot of fun with it-- if maybe for the wrong reasons. But the execution was really bad. It told you the story more than it ever allows you to discover it, with constant hints as the name of the character and THE TITLE OF THE GAME ITSELF, it was almost entirely impossible to take it seriously due to questionable dialog choices and the bizarre story beats.

It feels like the first 7 chapters were made separetely and by different people, by how different they were from each other gameplay-wise, and you could easily make a game out of each chapter individually, seeing them put together to carry the same story made it even more bizarre.

Some stuff like the Quantum Tracker and the constant self dialogue if you took too long in a puzzle were easy to get tired off and unable to avoid.

However I can see the effort and dedication put into the other aspects of the game, puzzles, designs, enviroment, it was probably one of the most beautiful looking graphic-wise.

And the big twist is literally Right There the whole time and you call it chapters before its reveal. But the high-tension chase scenes, the puzzle (even if a little overwhelming at first) were absolutely enjoyable and the ending makes it worth the fun. I enjoyed my options and I was rewarded with the credits and a good song choice.

Enjoyable experiece as long as you don't think too much into it.

No... Just no... I'm sorry, I can tell there was some love and attention put behind this game and I respect the devs who tried their hardest. But this game is bad. Just flat out, inexcusably, bad. Let me explain:

The biggest issue with the game is it is wearing way too many hats. It's trying to be a survival horror, a shooter, a puzzler, a mystery, a spy thriller, sci-fi, weird psychic powers, and a mess of other things. You jump from point to point at a breakneck speed and it is hard to keep up with it all. One minute you're being put through a (legitimately scary) basement segment before shooting the vengeful spirit that apparently had their death covered up??? This sounds like spoilers, but you learn all of this in one chapter. ONE. This level of exposition and twists is painfully sharp and unpleasent. The game wants you to be scared and nervous but there's no reason for the things I want to know, and too many reasons for the things that just shouldn't exist.

Emma and Adam, our main characters, are just unlikable. Emma is a bitch, excused by her being pregnant (fair enough, seen what hormones do to people, but that doesn't mean I want to play with that kind of person) and Adam bounces from sympathetic, to an asshole, to just straight up 'what'? Nicolas is alright, though his parts feel significantly shorter and less fleshed out than Adam's, so you're stuck with a much less enjoyable character for most of the game.

The story moves like it's on crack. Between jumping between present day to flashbacks, on top of each section trying to be it's own bite-sized chunk of game they try and cram so much stuff in at one time it's just a cluttered confusion.

Graphically the game is... Good and bad. Good because the graphics themselves aren't terrible, they're solid and do a decent job of creating atmosphere. Bad because the animations are poor and some areas just have very big question marks on how they got past Q&A.

Audio is pretty rough too, Adam's VA sounds like they're talking into their mic from across the room and music cues are just as sharp and jumbled as the story is.

Random Gameplay moments: Already mentioned things feel mashed together, so moving on from that. Controls are... Fine. They're nothing amazing. Combat isn't barebones, it's bones have been bleached under the desert sun. A major boss fight throws fog across the screen and it's impossible to see attacks so you end up running around desperately hoping you dodge the axe flying at you from the mist. Puzzles are... Thematically great, and if you like code cracking then they're really interesting. However they slow down gameplay so much, requiring notepads for finding out solutions simply because there's so many things to track. Not to mention the codes themselves are a mess, and it can be hard to know where you make a mistake. Spooks were the one thing I liked, but let me emphasize 'one' since I got legitimately scared once and never again.

I want to like this game, I tried to be interested in it, I even played it with other people in stream to make it funny, but it was impossible for me. Devs, please don't take this as me thinking you need to stop making games. Please, keep trying! Under my complaints there is a genuine attempt here to make a solid story, varied gameplay, and challenging yet rewarding puzzles. Unfortunately, this game just isn't it. The only 'Beast Inside' was the hamster desperately turning the wheel in my head to keep things moving, but at some point I think it died cause now all I have is a headache.

All 10 hours I was so tense - I wanted to know the truth and didn't want to finish the game)))) Sometimes I was scared and sometimes monsters were laughable, it could be a tough run from monsters or I could finish some battles in one go. The Beast has its bad sides, but they are so insignificant, in comparison with whole coolness of the game..
Other reason why I like it - The Beast helped me not to be afraid of horror games (weak reaction had let me down too often)). And this game gave me feeling I could do anything, I could beat any game, if I will try enough

This is one of the best story-driven horror game!
Played on max difficulty you really need to use the brain to solve some puzzles. On easy are....easy XD
Story can be confusionary at start and even at mid-game. I suggest to collect and read EVERY notes and hidden notes that you can find, or, in case, use a guide. So you can understand what really happen during your journey and try to finish the game multiple times for all endings.
There are MANY QTE and sometimes is more - fail and retry
Most of jumpscare are not predictable while some are, high tension during some scenes but not like VISAGE for example.
Lack of music, but overall the quality is really good on my G933 with DFXenhancer ( the credit songtrack is fantastic )

Story - 9
Sound - 7 / music - 5 (only for ending songtrack)
Gameplay - 7
Graphic - 7
Atmosphere horror - 9

Overall speaking : really worth to buy it

Too bad I cannot give a neutral review. The game is not bad, but it's not super good either, it's just neutral.

Pros:
1. Graphics and sounds (chirping birds!) are beautiful.
2. The scanner idea is interesting, though shooting down the entities that interfere with the scanner is weird and, sometimes, annoying.
3. Puzzles are amazing! You will love them, especially if you like decrypting messages.
4. The story is great and original.

Cons:
1. Jumpscares are either too predictable or not scary at all. Granted, one of two did manage to get me as I didn't expect them, but majority of them are just shrug inducing.
2. The game tries to be like Amnesia too much - gathering oil for your lamp, running away from ghosts, sneaking in the darkness etc. Oh, but you cannot hide in closets.
3. At some point you will get a gun and there will be a boss fight. And it will be annoying and frustrating. You cannot reload your gun if you are running. If you start reloading and then press the key to run, you will instantly stop reloading. If you take damage, you will stop reloading. There is no dodge either.
4. And then there is 'the sneaking'. Oh boy, I still don't really understand how it works. You can be crouched in front of the monster, litterally in plain sight, and he will not see you. And then you can take a peak around the corner, barelly visible, in the dark, and he will instantly spot you. I suppose movement is the key, but at that point I was too frustrated to continue.

The game can be fun, it has some interesting ideas and puzzles, but I wouldn't say it's 'gripping'. It wasn't really all that scary to me either. I guess I played better horror games and this one was mild compared to them. I liked how this game showed the transition from peaceful to paranoid, though, it was nicely done.

Gory and The Beast

The Beast Inside (TBI) is a survival horror with a unique twist to it. You play as two different protagonists, each of them in a different time at the same place. The modern side of the story takes place during the Cold War, where you are taking on the role of Adam, while the past is set in the second half of the 19th century, the main role taken on by Nicolas. That on its own is enough to grab the attention of any seasoned horror fan, but this game has a few more surprises hidden.

Spying Ruskies!

Adam is a codebreaker for the CIA and with his wife Emma, he moves into a new house. It suits Adam perfectly, as it is in a remote location, so he can focus on cracking an Enigma code that has been intercepted from the Russians. However, the house holds way darker secrets than either Adam or Emma could ever anticipate. And Adam is unsure whether they have been followed or not.

As you explore the house for the first couple of minutes, you will soon find an old notebook. Reading it transfers the narrative back in time and puts you in control of Nicolas, who embarks on a dreadful, horror-fuelled adventure to uncover the secrets that his family hides. And with Nicolas’ story also comes the true horror and supernatural as he encounters unreal locations and beings.

The story also has multiple endings, which come to fruition with several choices made at the end of the game. They do not justify replaying it over and over to get all of them, but it allows you to add a bit of your personal flavour to the conclusion of the story.

Two different games

Past and present also bring different feel as well as gameplay elements. Firstly, Adam’s segments are more focused on exploration and occasional puzzle-solving. The puzzles themselves are not too challenging, but for an untrained mind, it might take a couple of minutes to figure out the correct solution. Other than that, there are a few spooky moments, but you are never truly sitting at the edge of your seat. It is more focused on Adam’s psychological state and his slow descent into madness and paranoia.

Now comes the fun, and those are Nicolas' parts. Not only is it where the horror takes the reigns, but you will also play through different horror clichés, each done with utmost care. At one point, TBI gives you a gun, and you must fight off a ghost in the forest, culminating in a multi-stage boss fight with well-telegraphed attacks. At another, you have to sneak through mines infested with ghosts of miners. And it would not be a proper play on the clichés if there would not be a section with a water monster.

The horror of game design

Personally, I wanted this game to be amazing. I was in love with it from the start. But sadly, it falls flat in numerous aspects. Nicolas is given a lantern and matches to illuminate his way. Lantern needs to be filled with kerosene which you can find almost everywhere you look. And that is the first of its major issues. The resource management is pointless as, by the end of your adventure, you will have around forty kerosene bottles that you have not been able to use as either the locations are too bright, or you still refill the lantern regularly, but it just keeps on giving you more. The same issue is with the matches. I tried to light every candle I came across and by the end, I had over a hundred of them. That ruins the aspect of managing your light source as you never want to be stuck in absolute darkness and is a major oversight.

Another problem arises with the actual horror elements. TBI relies heavily on cheap screaming jumpscares. Sure, they will make you jolt in your chair, but that is about it. There are so many of them that you start to get tired of them. And that is a shame because the atmosphere the game creates is amazing. Picture this, you are creeping through swamps, something lurks in the water, ominous music is playing. You are already plenty scared. Suddenly, and completely randomly, a ghost of a random man flies out at you. It does not add anything, nor does it fit the scene. He is just there. It could’ve been a great, pure horror experience, but instead, you are blasted with loud jumpscares.

Waking up from a nightmare

When there is something bad, it has to be followed by something good. The narration of TBI is intriguing and will leave you craving more. Both the present and the past are compelling stories that become surprisingly well connected later in the game. Nothing feels especially forced, and by the end of the game, you will be sitting in the chair and saying: “Yes, this actually makes sense.”

Another thing that should be mentioned is the soundtrack. It always helps set the scene and fits perfectly. The boss fights have fitting soundtracks for their respective ways of beating them. Same can be said for the exploration portions, which either have calm music or one that just shouts, “Something bad is coming!”.

Finally, the visuals are surprisingly well looking. I expected from this game placeholders and undetailed environments, as is common with a lot of titles made with Unity Engine. Instead, I got great looking character designs as well as environments that felt varied and realistic enough to keep me immersed. On the other hand, there have been a few visual glitches, mostly in places where it tried to emulate swinging movement such as hair in the wind or a chain on handcuffs.

Epitaph

The Beast Inside is a very good horror experience with user-friendly puzzles and engaging gameplay that sadly relies a bit too much on stereotypical loud jumpscares. The negatives are easily overpowered by the sheer amount of positives and simply by the fact that you will be having fun playing. The whole game can be completed in under 10 hours, including searching for all the collectables. With a price tag of twenty euros, I would recommend you get it even at a full price if you are looking for that quick horror fix.

The Beast Inside is a fun horror game to play.
Creates good tension in the first few chapters.
But then almost throws it all away by relying on jump scares way too much.
Second half, you stop caring about the jump scares and luckily the story picks up.

Would have cared more if the tension from the beginning was maintained through to the end of the game.
But still it was a fun time I had with the game.

This game had its good points, like the gameplay is okay and some puzzles are puzzling, but it is way too long for what it is. The story is very rough, predictable, and the endings are all disappointing. The two storylines could have been split into separate games easily, and in my opinion to the benefit of both of them.
The Nicolas part could have been its own Amnesia-like jekyll-and-hyde game. Adam could have his own cold war paranoid code-breaking/trace-chasing puzzler (if you reduce the amount of travel because GOD he was walking in the woods way too long). Combining these stories and forcing the jekyll and hyde bit into the cold war made the twist really stupid. This guy was planting bugs in his own house that fueled his paranoia about his own wife? If they were going to have Adam sabotage himself they should have made him a sleeper agent and spent time playing with that as a twist instead of this dumb ooOOoooOOo split personality mental illness bit.
the best way i can think of to describe this game is that despite every new plot development making zero sense, i predicted them all anyway. confusing, unlikable, and boring. it's still better than lust for darkness, at least.

I can sum this up very quick for you. Puzzles, then jump scares. Puzzles, then jump scares. Bad FPS, puzzles, then jump scares. Nothing very scary, and to get to anything you care about, you have to go through cryptic puzzles. Granted, the puzzles are clever and feel satisfying when you complete them... but I didn't want to play a puzzle game.

Was torn about this rating, because hey - some people really like jump scares! And boy, if you like jump scares, is this the game for you. Every five seconds, a new jump scare.

But even acknowledging that some people really like jump scares, I can't recommend this, which sucks. The premise of the game is interesting, the visuals are good, and there are actually a few solid scares that AREN'T jump scares -- bold choices like having the spooky thing standing there plain as day, right where you can see it, doing nothing, forcing *you* to approach *it*. On top of that, the game throws a few things at you that are entirely unexpected, outside of genre. Atari ghost-hunting laser gun? Check. Actual gun in what until that point had basically been a walking simulator? Check!

Unfortunately, the jump scares are just absurdly numerous and on top of that, the few times the game has puzzles, the narrator is going to pipe up with condescending corrections and aggressive, leading hints every time you try something incorrect as a solution, or even make the mistake of misclicking. There's no time for you to sit with the puzzle and actually figure it out on your own. Even the 'hidden messages' on objects aren't 'hidden,' because the flavor text when you examine it says ROTATE OBJECT TO REVEAL HIDDEN MESSAGE.

It's a real shame. I think there was a lot of potential here, but the game tries too hard to aggressively push you in most directions, from the incessant puzzle coaching to the 'ARE YOU STILL SCARED?!' jump scares every 3 seconds. Sometimes it's better to let people's imaginations do most of the heavy lifting.

I put it down last night after getting killed because of a reloading animation as slow as cold molasses, and I'm just not sure whether I'll pick it back up again.

Overall amazing horror game, taken back by an excessive amount of cheap jumpscares, janky mechanics, predictable horror sections and rather questionable puzzles.
Still, it more than makes up for it with amazingly built atmospheres both in dark and calm sections, spot-on voice acting on important scenes, surprisingly good graphics and lighting, and a story that gets very interesting as you go along.

More than a horror game, this game fits a story focused exploration game, with heavy aspects of horror. It's no ground breaking horror experience, but the end result is a very well built interactive story, exploring both the madness of paranoia, and the discovery of a repressed self.

In its current state it is too buggy to recommend. The automatic saves mean that I keep respawning to be killed instantly at the end of chapter 6. Only option is to replay the entire chapter which took over an hour to do.

Alright, I'm right after finishing the game, so I decided to slightly change my review.

The Beast Inside is a that kind of horror which can really fast discourage you. Why? It's all because of cheap, horrible and annoying screamers. For the first chapters devs tried to create a tension, and they successfully did it, but right after that they destroyed the same tension by putting screamers 30 seconds after each other. It wasn't even scary, it was annoying. But, the second half of the game is much better. In the second half devs decided to put the story and tension over the screamers, which is really good.
The story? I'm really pleased about the story, it's so well written. It was something what encouraged me to finish the game after the first 3-4 hours of playing. So, if you are looking for game with the really good, mysterious and interesting story, that game would be good choice.
Characters are great and the fact that in the whole game you are trying to figure it out what's going on, and you just can't wait to get the answer, is something really important, and makes that game remarkable. Good job.

What's missing? Soundtrack. Actually there's no soundtrack at all (at least I don't remember any song from that game). The only song I remember, is the one in the credits. Really beautiful.
If they didn't decide to put those cheap screamers in the begging of the game (and that one on the swamp, which makes me laugh for like 10mins straight), and put some good music into the game, I would probably rate that game higher. But I think B grade (8/10) is not that bad, and this is the one I give The Beast Inside.

Cheers.

Not the most polished game. Real rough around the edges, I found lock picking to be an absolute nightmare and I wasn't too invested in the story. It isn't too bad if given for free or at a steep discount but I don't recommend getting it on your own at full price.

Chapter 1
Texture gets bugged. Character leaves the cryptic box under the floor. Freezes into the lock. Doesn't react to any kind of menu key.

Chapter 3
Fails to automatically equip the hook, several times. Needs chapter restart.

Chapter 5
With medium texture, the numbers on the safe are full blank. Unreadable. Only readable on ultra.

Chapter 6
At the very end of the chapter the character pushed the cupboard from the way, then i died during lock picking.

Cupboard pushing cut scene never gets triggered. Character doesn't react anymore to the cupboard.

I'm disappointed. Beautiful demo leading to a really crappy game. Good jump scares, but so many silly clunky mechanics were thrown in. Nothing but jumpscares and music.

Absolutely linear gameplay; I can't walk past this bush, better backtrack to find the machete that can only clear these specific trees. I love horror games, this should not count as one. I'd never recommend it, it's even clunky and slow for a walking simulator.

I didn't realize it would be a dual-perspective narrative, which is an interesting framework but the game itself falls short. Chapters alternate between a 1970's daytime setting that focuses on more puzzle elements, and the same house 100 years earlier at night. This game is pretty close to being good, but just about every element falls slightly short of being enjoyable.

The only thing this game does well are the jumpscares, which are plentiful to a fault. In the daytime storyline this even extends to your wife randomly appearing to jumpscare you any time she comes on screen which is really cheesy. I had to turn my sensitivity wayyyyy down on both mouse and controller for either to feel functional, and ended up going with controller which actually made the controls workable, until in chapter 4
the First Person Shooter sequence where the enemy can be right behind you it takes me 5 seconds to do a 180 and by that time I'm dead, but if you don't kill him your limited visibility goes to about 0, so I had to just sprint and blindly follow the trail and after like 10 minutes finally finished it...
. The puzzles were OK, but every sequence between just felt like filler. There was a paint roller sequence to cover a long conversation which ended up being more boring than if I had just paid attention to the conversation itself. There are too many cutscenes or short interstitials that take control away from the player. What the heck even is a Quantum Localizer? I feel like that device itself is way more important than anything the soviets could have been saying to each other. I would rather watch someone stream this game than play it myself.

It is always nice to see when there is a successful Kickstarter campaign behind a good game. This is how it all started with The Beast Inside. Also, I understand the creators (or just the publisher) here are Polish - Lust for Darkness was a nice surprise a couple of years ago and while I'm awaiting its sequel, Lust from Beyond, I have another gem titled Don't Be Afraid on my wishlist. These folks have gifted us with some pretty great low-budget horror software in recent years.

Walking Sim Meets Horror

The Beast Inside is a weirdo. First we start off as Adam, an agent of the government (even better: a cryptoanalyst) who enjoys the tranquility in the countryside until he finds the diary of a certain Nicolas Hyde in the attic, somebody who lived in the same house more than a hundred years before. And this is where things get interesting: chapters alternate between the two protagonists. Just as we finish a chapter ending on a cliffhanger we switch to the other character and continue where we left off (from another cliffhanger).

Game Mechanics

Adam is the smart guy. He solves puzzles, looks for clues with a piece of equipment called Quantum Localiser and sometimes argues with her better half, Emma. With him it's daytime always. Then we switch to Nicolas for the first time and notice the house is completely dark. We rely on matches but pretty soon we can find a lamp and use kerosene to ensure it can always light the way. This 19th century setting is where supernatural beings are more apparent and the game pulls us into terrifyng lands.

The Story

A mess is what it is. Initially, it starts out great and we are eager to find out more. Especially considering how the two nightmares are related. As we make progress the encounters of Nicolas become more and more dangerous while Adam is slowly turning into a madman. By the end it is such a convoluted mess that I even forgot the intro sequence showing a gruesome happening only to give us the message before gameplay: one week earlier.

Graphics

The game looks beautiful. Truly. And it's the seventies with objects and pieces of furniture from that time. We can pick up and rotate everything (and I mean literally everything). That includes checking the contents of the majority of the drawers, too. But most of the collectibles are not hidden this way so you mainly find kerosene and matches. You can freely use them - no need to conserve them like you did with the tinderboxes in the first Amnesia game or when you still used your camera in Outlast just for a couple of more minutes before replacing a completely drained battery.

The game is not optimised well. Vegetation outside of the house is a heavy hit on your rig. It is one of those games where changing the options doesn't help much. There are some bugs here and there but the voice actors deliver so the atmosphere is great independent of the chapter (timeline) you play.

And The Summary

The Beast Inside is a strange game. It desperately wants to be more than a walking sim (and it manages to do so) but with cheap jumpscares it doesn't really succeed in becoming real horror. Boss battles are interesting but they are few and far between (and not even memorable). The storytelling and pacing are mediocre at best and the 13 chapters are completely unnecessary. It is definitely a joy to play if you like the genre and don't mind some of its shortcomings.

Quite good walking simulator. Is is a mix of a horror and an adventure game. Basically the levels alternate: one level you play as Adam (adventure levels) and one as Nicolas (horror levels).

In general I have to say that the story was interesting at first, but then at the end I didn't understand everything and I think it's not a great story, the four endings between you choose are also all unsatisfying. Also there is one scene at the very start of the game which acts as a prologue but this scene is supposed to be pretty much at the end of the game. BUT this scene is then never referred to again. Just so much potential wasted.
Also I think it is worth mentioning that you have to backup your save at the last level if you wan't to see every ending, because otherwise your save gets erased and you have to play from the very beginning.
The game is also quite long so you definitly don't want to play through it four times, one is enough.

The game has quite good grahpics and also some really nice environments, wallpaper worthy.
Unfortunately the game's performace isn't that smooth. In the outside areas it's usually fine and I get more than 60 fps, but in inside leels (or night time levels) I often get some quite low framerate. And even if I get over 60 fps, it still doesn't feel smooth in this game. Such a shame. Especially in chase sequences this is really annoying.

Though I liked the adventure levels more, it was just so much fun to explore those.
In the horror levels you also collect fuel for your lamp and matches, but the game throws so many at you, it's incredible. At the end of the game I had like 250 matches and over 100 fuel cans. It should be way less.
I would say that the horror levels are quiet scary and definitly have a good atmosphere but there are some (not few) jump scares in those. I didn't always like that.

Puzzles are usually quite easy item puzzles which I enjoyed. There are also some decipher puzzles which kinda suck.

Sadly this game also has too many QTE's where you often die if you fail and the loading times aren't that small. So those suck.

Besides that the game has some false advertisement on the store page where they say you can use your trusty revolver to shoot you out of dangerous situations.
This is basically a lie. You can only use the revolver in in one section of the game and that is a boss fight. I would have actually liked it if you could use it the whole game and combat would be a thing, then make ammo and health items rare and this could have been a good survival horror game.

So overall this is a quite polished horror/adventure game with nice graphics and gameplay but with some non-optimal performance and unsatisfying endings to the story.

this game has a such a great beginning, it starts so smooth and fresh and i loved it right

then in the middle it was a bit questionable, but i was ready to forgive

AND THEN THE FREAKING MINE LEVEL HAPPENED AND THE PERSON WHO DECIDED IT'D BE COOL TO MAKE U GO BACK TO THE FIRST LANTERN AFTER DYING ON THE LAST ONE IS PROBABLY ONE OF THESE WEIRD LIZARD PEOPLE WHO CONTROL GOVERMENT I SWEAR

so, mines are done, can i have fun now just like in the beggining? NAH JUST GO TO THIS STOOPID SWAMP AND FIGHT SHREK LADIES BECAUSE THIS IS THEIR SWAMP! THEN GO HIDE FROM MARIA BUT GUESS WHAT SHE CAN SEE U THROUGH THE WALL HAHA BLIND LADY GOES BRRRRRRR

overall the story is a bit obvious but still dope, i enjoyed watching my endings and then going to yt to watch other ones because i am not replaying this game. ever.

okok, i still do reccomend it because i'm kind and don't want to ruin positive reviews stat. but it's only worth it with a big discount. prepare for a bit of butt flame and many facepalms :)

This game always left me fatigued, not that it's tense, but so incredibly dull. The Beast Inside relies on cheap jump scare tactics for a majority of the game, so much so that you are never in any danger until near the end of chapter 4. I made it to chapter 7 and just couldn't keep playing.

Apologies to my friend who gifted it to me, I tried to enjoy it and failed.

Another horror game with a good premise but a crappy execution. So if you consider buying it, wait till it's on deep sale!

The story starts out interesting, but after a couple of hours you can easily predict the whole twist behind the two timelines. I liked the idea with the subtle start, the paranoia and piecing informations together, but it goes off the rail real fast with this over the top ghost chasing bullsh*t. The voice acting is ok, but the characters are just bland and annoying (wife especially).

Gameplay-wise it's the usual walking simulator stuff with object interactions, chase sequences, QTE and a forced in gunfight stage. The puzzles are the worst aspect of this game. There are some creative ones, but they become really tedious and immersion breaking. Halfway through the game I was bored as hell and had to forced myself to keep on playing.

The environment looks stunning, the interior design with the lightning effects nails it due to the unreal engine, but the character models look ugly as f*ck.
Sounds are great, they really set the horror atmosphere with it, this is probably the strongest element of the game. Too bad the game mostly relies on cheap jumpscares.
Lastly the performance, it's sh*t. Expect lags, frame drops and heavy hardware usage.

It had great potential, but became a cliche filled garbage.

An ok story wrapped around a game that barely exists. Gameplay consists of walking/running around beautiful environments solving puzzles that for the most part are too easy even on hardest difficulty and mostly consist of simply getting an item from one location to another, wish it had more cryptography stuff instead. The horror part is meh, 99% jump scares that you grow to expect so much that by the end I couldn't feel a thing. Not recommended unless you can get it for 10€ or less.

it's bad, the only scary stuff so far is jumpscares like the other reviews mention.
it's poorly written and thought out, why the hell does the character mention that he better check the shed for a fuse when it should logically be in the basement where the fuse box is? oh right because the writer just wants to make you go out there and for no other reason. the only decent fun i had was solving two puzzles, one was a simple decoding puzzle to open a lock, and the other one was slightly more complex in order to decode a cryptogram using an enigma machine, which was actually pretty interesting. I think the developer should focus on games with puzzles rather than horror because it is very clear which one is their forte and which one is not.

Kind of feels like a horror story made by people who enjoy horror at the surface level but have never really considered what actually makes a horror story good. Relies on manipulative music and jumpscares to an incredible degree, it is apparent very quickly that there's nothing truly scary here, just cheap. The characters are completely smoothbrained and absolutely unlikable, I'd be happy to just let them get murdered. Sadly the game is just interesting enough I kind of want to know what happens, but it's probably more enjoyable to watch a let's play than sink the effort into it yourself.

While the cover art is a little deceiving into the type of horrific events you will witness in The Beast Inside, it is still a fantastic horror game. You play as two different characters trying to unravel their prospective mysteries in their timelines. They both take place at the same location of course, in New Hampshire of all places. Adam, the first character you are introduced to plays a little more detective-style gameplay and progressively gets more thrilling. Whilst Nicholas, the character in the past, is a more survival horror ride throughout his journey. Now it has a plethora of jump scares, I’m not going to lie. At a certain point, I was so connected to the story, however, that I almost completely ignored these later in the game or was little to not at all phased by them.

For the quality of the story, it will take a little bit of brain crunching to wrap your head around it when you get to the end. There are multiple endings, none of which are given any real clue as to which one will be canon. All in all, I was surprised time and again by where I thought the plot was going. And about 70 percent of the time I had it right... mostly. The fresh twists in the story and the exceptional dialogue and voiceovers of the characters were kind of heartwarming to a horror fan. Or maybe I’ve just sat through too many terrible B movies to notice what something decent looks like. In key moments the music really heightens the situation taking place. The few occasions you need to run like Santa just snatched your pants were very tense the first time around. These are not mindless chase scenes either, in these scenarios you are being swarmed by spirits who want you dead. Multiple times I made a wrong move and within seconds I paid the price. Not saying it's difficult, but it made the chase scenes very exciting.

During your time trying to solve this curious case, you’ll come across all kinds of documents giving hints and perspectives of the people involved in the events prior to and after what has taken place. Some are mandatory to be collected to further an objective while others just flesh out the scenario. On my first go-around, I was itching for more information so of course, I explored all I could when I was able or not being hunted by ghosts. The environments are very detailed to boot, I found myself going out of my way just to search around and see what was up. I expected there to be a lot of set items just randomly generated all around the place, but as far as I could tell each location was unique, and seeing landmarks from certain areas assisted me later down the line.

There are 3 difficulties to choose from, however, I did my achievement run on the hardest difficulty available and only noticed minor changes to enemy speed and damage and one particular puzzle asked me to complete a few more tasks. Other than that there was not much difference, however, I was blasting Megaman X tracks and blazing through it for the achieves so maybe that’s why.

For a Kickstarter game, this is pretty well done. There were some jump scares as I said, I completely missed some the first time around other than the sound because I was simply looking at something else. The game also isn’t completely friendly with the few occasions you need to platform to move about either. The cover art had me thinking there would be a little more gore, but I was expecting floods of blood and viscera. The game was well executed, I got spooked and for $25 it's not bad, I would say it's one of the better horror games I have played in a while. I would get it on sale if I had to get it again based on 18 hours for 2 runs of it. But I came for spooks, and I got spooked. Mission accomplished.

A fantastic horror game that uses jump-scares a little too much!

Really fun game with varied environments and a story that's easy to get behind.
The creepy atmosphere is built so well and exploration is rewarded so looking around the ominous locations stays fun throughout. I loved the different types of game play in some of the chapters as it works really well.
Only complaints would be the sheer number of Jump scares and the fact that there's no chapter select so getting any of the other multiple endings means a whole new play through!

I definitely recommend this one.

- Entirely too reliant on constant jump scares I can't stress enough that this is the core game play part is loud, constant jump scares every couple of steps in some areas.
- Chase sequences that feel out of place in the game and can force you past missable items

What is sanity, whats is insanity? What do we define as reality? Are you sane accepting a reality thats insane? Madness may just be another form of being sane.

Game has a rich story, one thing i dont like is the chase moments but thats just me.

The ending is amusing, because. Are you guided by real life morals? A sadistic nature? Or do you see the hard reality and accept it? Not all paths to light ends in light but darkness. Madness is the domain of the sane.

Its kind of a good game. It has screamers, it has story, it has puzzles and plot twists. Also the game has a few end's that you can easily rich using saves. I recommend this game to play everyone who likes horror and detective games.

Sadly it has everything I hate about games of this genre, and more.

- Cheap jump scares every 5 minutes.
- Annoying and very badly designed chase sequences.
- Fucking QTE?
- That fucking boss fight...

Also cringe AF story makes this a game I wouldn't recommend. Dissapointed.

genre: 1st person adventure/horror game
rating: 9/10

+ The presentation is great. Tons of atmosphere and realism, great voice acting and sound effects makes this a very interesting and immersive thriller.
+ Story wise it may not qualify for a special award, but it was interesting enough to keep me playing and finish it. You play as a CIA agent moving to an inherited house in the countryside with your wife , where you discover a diary of a past resident of the house. You actually play 2 persons living in different time periods but bounded by a dark heritage.
+ Gameplay is fine for the most part, there are puzzles that are inventory based, chase sequences (and some light action ones) and stealth parts. What i didn't like were 2 (i think) riddles regarding cryptology. You can choose the difficulty level at start, where i guess the puzzle elements or the action ones are easier.
+ Controls are fine (with m/k) , optimization is also good.
+ A complete game, with just the right duration and at a very reasonable price (it's on par with the resident evil games, in my opinion even better, definitely more interesting, but at half price).

- Nothing major, some gameplay elements (cryptology) could be better.

This is in my opinion the best horror game (i have played and i have played/tried many) on steam at the moment (not taking into account the classic ones), considering the price and the quality. It's more accurately a thriller game, a complete game and essential for every horror/mystery fan out there. Highly recommended at full price.

A good horror game that I enjoyed.
Thought the puzzles were well done.
Storywise it was good. I liked how the 2 different stories intertwined with each other.
The good thing here is that the checkpoints are well placed if you would die for some reason so pretty much just right back at it again.
The environment is very nice.
Music/sounds are good.
Truly enjoyed this one so can easily recommend it.

Phenomenal horror game that most likely will provoke anxiety and fear when playing. Only a handful of games were able to make me jump out of my chair and The Beast Inside was able to accomplish this many times. The first half the game is truly terrifying when playing as Nicholas but this slows down towards the end. Playing as Adam you have equipment to track paranormal activity which works really well with the story and is fairly unique. Plenty of collectibles in the form of notes to be found throughout the chapters and multiple endings can increase the overall playtime. Game can be completed within 10 hours. Overall, this game has a fantastic story, awesome atmosphere, impressive jumpscares, equally impressive sound design, frequent high tension moments, smooth controls, and beautiful environments. My favorite horror game to date. [100/10]

This is like my second review in 15 years but needed to give these guys credit. This game is fantastic! The controls, presentation, story flow, sound and puzzles are all so well done. I particularly like the puzzles! I was genuinely scared more times than I can count. I wish more games could pull off storytelling like this. Great work.

Special thanks to Angryjoeshow on YouTube for showing me this game when he played the demo while it was in KickStarter. I never would have found this game without seeing him playing it.

The first thing that everyone will notice is that this game is incredibly beautiful to look at. I looked at EVERYTHING as I went along with the story I even lingered around areas that I really enjoyed just to gaze at the fun areas. I screamed quite a few times as it did a good job building up the tension as I wandered around. The puzzles are pretty good and they change depending on the difficulty you selected which is an awesome touch. The story to me was entertaining however some don't like it for one character or the other.

The #1 thing I can say that is bad is the loading time. Whether loading in the next chapter or after you die, sometimes it can take up to 10 minutes. I have no idea why it does that but my guess is that it could be because the game is so detailed and big in some chapters that it takes a long time. The deaths can be punishing just because of some of these loading times depending on the checkpoint and the chapter. A smaller issue is that there are soooo many matches and lantern oil that I was able to fully refill the lantern at least 30 times with the amount I had stored up in normal mode.

The cheap 1 hit deaths were annoying but wouldn't be an issue if it wasn't for those loading times to restart at a checkpoint. There were some things along the way that I wish lasted longer like
being able to use the gun for more than one chapter.
The endings, some are alright and some are lame for me. I enjoyed the ride and I wish I could ride it again as if I'm playing it again for the first time.

I really wanted to give this game a chance, and it started out good, but the more you play it the more you will hate it. If you like a cheap horror-game with very clunky controls and jumpscares you've seen 100 times before, go for it.

If you're the kind of guy that drinks pee out of a shoe you might be surprised by the big shocker plot reveal at the end. For the rest of us, we need a black bar across the title card with SPOILER WARNING next to it, since the plot of the game is literally spelled out before you even open the store page. If you don't get it right away, don't worry- the Plot Clown will show up to throw plot pies at you, but you'll likely already know which pie you're eating so it's just a waste of pie. The red herrings don't work when the narrative is as subtle as big squeaky shoes on on an old floorboard. I keep making these clown analogies because throughout the game, a spirit clown kept flying at me out of nowhere. I don't know if it was meant to look like a clown, but here we are.

Adam's portion of the game is completely nonsensical. You'll spend a good portion of the game running around in the woods making bleep bloop atari noises with a grocery store check-out scanner wondering wtf any of it has to do with the other protagonist and reminescing about the days you were playing as Nicholas and not this silly b*tch on his Pink Panther bullsh*t. I wanna get scared by the scary spookies! Bring back the clown!

Ultimately, the game tries to wear too many hats at once and it detracts from the spooky scaries, so in closing I'd just like to say c'mon hat-head, pick a hat

DO NOT BUY THIS GAME!!!
Not worth the time spent playing or the money. Started off as a potentially interesting story which only lasted for the first 3 chapters. The rest 10 felt like a dragged out chore.
Not to mention crashing mid game, glitching and poor texturing.
Most boring and underdeveloped games I've played in a while.
Do your self a favor and see how the story turns out in a walk-through.

This was a pretty solid survival horror game. The story was certainly engaging as I had no idea how everything would add up in the end. The game has some issues, though, but not enough that would prevent me from playing it again or recommending it to someone.

Pros:
- Very intricate story -- or should I say, “stories.” You are left guessing all the way through as to what’s really going on, how these stories are connected, and how everything will end. It does require one to pay attention and read notes, letters, documents, etc carefully or else you miss out on key plot elements. I like this, though. Keeps the game interesting as you are sort of responsible for figuring out what you’re playing.
-The endings, whichever one you get, truly make you think about what happened -- and what didn’t happen. I am still going over everything in my head, trying to piece it all together so it “matches up.” Not many games I’ve played are like this, if any, and I enjoy this kind of story.
- Good graphics for the most part. The environments and building interiors look great!
- Effective use of light and darkness to create more suspense.
Has three difficulty settings, which increases replay value.
- Opening scene definitely gets your attention, and gives you something to constantly wonder about throughout the game. Or, perhaps, gives you a sort of morbid “goal” to achieve.
- I liked how we would jump from Adam to Nicolas then back to Adam, then again to Nicolas throughout the story. It kept either story from becoming “stale,” and added tension and curiosity since you got their stories one part at a time through back and forth. It’s creative, it’s effective, and it’s unique, especially for a game that is often a walking simulator.
- Controls are quite fun. You can pick up almost anything and toss them around. It’s the most enjoyment I’ve had making a mess since “Amnesia: The Dark Descent!” This may not sound like much of a “pro” for a game, but to me, it is. If you can have a little goofy fun on the side, I see nothing wrong with that.
- Speaking of “Amnesia: The Dark Descent,” the use of a lantern, oil and matches reminded me of that game. Both are quite different in terms of graphics, story and character development, but I did like the reference nonetheless, be it intentional or not.
- Some good jumps scare moments, and it never felt like too much. A couple times I could “sense” something would happen, but I’d still get freaked out anyway. Other times, I’d be scared and would nearly jump out of my chair.
- Nicolas is a great character: tragic, sympathetic, strange, complex, frightened, confused....he’s wonderfully done, and I love his story segments the most.
- Inventory works on its own for the most part. Go to a door, and if you have the key, you can just open it -- no need to go to the inventory. Same for the grappling hook: go near a ladder and you automatically have it ready. This saves time and removes the nuisance of repeatedly having to go to the inventory to get items.

Cons:
- I do wish there was an easier way to put oil into the lantern besides going into the inventory manually and refilling it. It didn’t ruin the experience but it would have been a nice feature.
- While I enjoyed it, some players may not like the back and forth between Adam’s story and Nicolas’ story. I can see it being confusing for some players, too, and possibly may ruin the pacing for them in general.
- Nicolas is the only character with real depth. I thought his story was fascinating and tragic all at once. He was so complex and engaging that I often looked forward to his segments more than Adam’s unfortunately.
- Sometimes the pacing drags a bit depending on which chapter you’re on, and Chapter 11 was extremely short. It almost didn’t need to be a chapter of its own.
- Not really a “con” but more of a pet peeve I can see some players having with the game: I feel like the game’s endings, as thought-provoking as they are, may not provide enough concrete answers for some players.
- I didn’t care for the
boss fight
at the Inn. The lead up was ok, since
shooting the ghost every now and again made sense and worked for the game’s style
. But that, at the Inn? I felt it was very out of place and took me out of the atmosphere of the game. The
boss fight
in the mines was better since you ran away almost the whole time, which makes sense for the survival horror theme.
- Not truly a “con” since it depends on the person playing the game: If you want a game that requires you to think and analyze what’s going on, then this is a very good choice. However, if you want something simpler and more streamlined (which is fine, by the way) then this game may be annoying to you.
- Graphics may be good, but facial animations aren’t. Some character renders don’t look as good as others either, such as the
ghost lady
at the Inn.
- I really hated the mines. It could just be me since I hate mazes but...I really didn’t enjoy this part. Every level was the same layout which was both convenient and confusing. It was like I wasn’t going anywhere...but I was? Somehow?
- I wish there was a key for opening maps. When I had to reference the map multiple times to find the locked boxes, I found it annoying to have to repeatedly open and close the inventory.
- As nice as it is having a ton of matches and oil, I think the game provides WAY too much of both. At one point, I think I had 50 cans of oil! And I used the lantern often, too. I think it could be cut down significantly because it’s not very scary if you know you will always have a light source.
- I get that fetch quests are a thing in games, but I feel like Nicolas went on the most insane fetch quest. It was entertaining but I felt like it went on a bit too long. I honestly wondered if he’d ever be done with his journey to find out the truth.
- Maybe a few too many jump scares -- and with the same character it seemed: the white-clothed man.
- A big problem I had with the game is when you first obtain the grappling hook. There’s a bug that prevents you from using it on the ladder near the gazebo if you haven’t gone to this ladder first. I tried and tried but couldn’t get the grappling hook to trigger, and went to my last checkpoint. I then left the rope behind at the gazebo, went to the ladder, triggered the task of getting the rope, then went and got it at the gazebo. Then it worked on the ladder. I think this is bad programming, though, because there is no indication that you shouldn’t grab the rope first; you just figure it out by accident when trying to use it for the first time. If the rope is in the inventory, then it should automatically be triggered for use. I don’t see the point in having to ignore the rope, trigger the task, then retrieve the rope.

I hope there is a sequel, although, I’m not sure what it would entail, or if it would be a “true” sequel or something along the same lines or in the same universe but with different characters.

Not gonna lie, this game starts off great for the first few chapters. After maybe the first 3 it takes an absolute nosedive in quality, and the problems start to shine through. Ridiculous load times, cheap deaths, and some questionable story choices just absolutely hurt my feelings towards it. I can see why some people would like it, but it just wasn't my cup of tea. 4/10 Wouldn't shoot anomolies again.

The Beast Inside is an interesting and great horror game, but before I get into the story the game has two stories in it aka you play as two different characters, so I'll be talking a little bit of both of them. Now it’s time to get into the story.

The year is 1864 Nicholas Hyde having spent 10 years away from home, finally returns. But sadly there is no warm greeting for him, no family or friends to see him happily back home not even his own bastard father who had gone missing years ago.

No it’s just him and the ghosts of the past as he tries to figure out what happened to his father.

The year is 1979 the height of the Cold War fear and paranoia runs rampant as the fear of the kremlin's attack looms down on every American’s head, American’s like Adam Stevenson a code breaker who's tasked to decipher Russian encrypted messages.

With so much on his mind including his pregnant wife they decide to move to Adam’s families old home not just to get away from it all but for Adam to work, but are they really safe or is something or someone watching them. Maybe the Kremlin or maybe something worse.

So what’s to like about the game, well like the atmosphere it is really good in both stories, the atmosphere in Nicholas's story you jump at every sound, thinking what might be coming to get you as you wander through the darkness with only a match or Lantern to guide your way, it definitely keeps you on edge.

The atmosphere in Adam's story it's more psychological where you feel the paranoia he is feeling and as you start to wonder like him what other tricks the Russians are trying/going to pull next.

The story/stories are really good in their own way with lots of twists and turns. Nicholas’s story capturing the feeling of a haunting as a man searching for the truth and seeing great horrors.

Adam's story captures the feeling of paranoia at the time of living at the height of the Cold War not being able to trust people feeling like there are spies all over and watching you as you slowly go insane.

The game and it’s graphics/levels are also very beautiful and fun to explorer like Nicholas's parts being haunting and creepy and Adam’s parts being beautiful, kind of serene and picturesque but with a feeling of dread in it like it's too beautiful.

The game scares are really good while Nicholas’s is more jump-scarey I found them pretty good and well paste and evnen still got me even though I knew where they were coming from, while Adam’s scares not as scary still give this nice sense of dread and paranoia.

The music was good and fit well with the game and the sound effects were good too. The beast in Nicholas's story aka the masked man I liked him more importantly I liked his look it was classy yet scary and intimidating. I loved all the little references to other horror stories like Friday the 13th and Nightmare on Elm Street. The voice acting the game was very good didn't feel wooden at all.

But the best in the game were the notes, as you know I love notes in games because they can help build up the world and it did for both stories and helping to piecing together the whole story.

So what’s to dislike about the game, well some of the puzzles can be a bit of a pain in the ass like the cipher puzzles and some parts of the localizer were you need to shoot at anomalies was a pain too sometimes. And lastly after you beat the game you have to play it all over again to get the other endings.

All right now that I said that The Beast Inside is an interesting and great horror game with really good stories, a really good atmosphere, very beautiful graphics and fun levels to explore and really good notes to read.

So if you’re looking for an interesting horror game this could very well be what you're looking for and I highly recommend buying it.

Boring, glitchy game with horrible controls. DON'T GET GRIFTED BY THESE LAZY GAME DEVELOPERS!

Yes, the game is pretty, and that's it. Let me quickly tell you why you shouldn't buy this game:

This game uses the outdated and hated control concept that you can't just click on a door, for example and have it open. No, you have to click, hold, and drag/push every door open. It makes the very rare, once every 5 hours stealth segments nearly impossible because sometimes the icon for even selecting the door won't come up, and you have to fight the game TO MAKE A DOOR OPEN. What's worse is they can't even get a ramp right. Twice in the run down inn you have to climb a ramp, and FIVE TIMES I've had to restart the game because the character couldn't even get on the ramp; not because I died during four of these restarts, but just so the game would load properly so I could WALK UP A RAMP. One of these ramps were during the rare stealth segment, and after an actual five minutes of trying to get the character to walk up a ramp instead of bouncing off an invisible wall, the monster came into the room and killed me.

When you combine the terrible controls with hours of no consequence game play and broken puzzles, you feel like you've been cheated. Don't waste your time on a game that doesn't work that was made by game developers who don't care to fix bugs in their games, EVER.

Oof. This game is such a mixed bag. It does a few things really, really well. But when the game forced my attention away from the parts I enjoyed (which it did frequently), I found a game that made me ugly cry at how much I hated it.

As the description on the store page indicates, the story is split between two protagonists. The first character the player is introduced to, Adam, is a federal agent during the Cold War. I didn’t expect to like this timeline as much as I did, but the way the story explored themes of paranoia was seriously engaging. My time playing as Adam was a total mindfuck - in a good way, that is. Besides the constant code cracking in his chapters, the game actively encourages the player to distrust every character and, by extension, their own perception of what was happening in the story. Every chapter featuring Adam had me at the edge of my seat, anxious to find out what happened next.

And then there is Nicolas’ storyline. With the 19th century setting and the inclusion of actual spooky monsters, I thought his chapters were going to be absolute bangers. I was wrong. Very wrong. I found myself plowing through his story as quickly as I could so that I could get back to Adam’s story. But rushing through these chapters proved to be difficult because, like “Song of Horror”, the developers decided to rely on instant deaths as the main way to deliver scares. To me, instant death is not scary, only frustrating. Another frustrating aspect is that the game isn’t consistent with the mechanics. Some ghosts will kill you as soon as they touch you – but some ghosts will only harm you and allow you to recover. And which one does what doesn’t seem to make much sense: a boss toward the beginning of the game only hurts you, but some random, nameless ghost toward the end of the game kills you if you wander into the same postal code it occupies.

But that frustration is minor compared to my biggest issue with this game: the story. I know I was singing praises for Adam’s chapters earlier in this review, but by the time the game comes to a close, even his storyline completely unravels. It could be that I missed something because I was too busy spitting out chunks of my teeth after hate-clenching my jaw at the last Nicolas chapter, but the amount of loose ends left when the credits started to roll left me feeling dissatisfied. No, dissatisfied doesn’t do the feeling justice. I felt robbed. The twelve hours I spent playing this are twelve hours I will never get back. As it turns out though, I only got one of four possible endings… Maybe one of the other three concludes the game in a more satisfying way.

But there is no way in hell that I’m playing this game three more times to find out.

A horror story that tries to do too much. And succeeds, mostly.

The game plays out in two different times, each having its unique looks and quirks. The two main characters have a connection you'll learn about thoughout the story. Gameplay is quite diverse. As adam, you're mostly exploring in day light and solving puzzles, while with Nicolas, it's more like the game Amnesia with a few very scary chase scenes and boss fights. 0f course both have the mandatory collection of notes to explain what's going on.

A lot of things are really good in this game. Visuals, sound and music are all very good. The story is quite cliché and predictable but that's just how it is with horror games. What I didn't like was that so many things didn't add up. Not sure if this is due to bad story writing or the fact that both main characters were having some serious mental issues. The story as it is being presented is from their viewpoint, which is quite f'd up.

Playing as Nicolas was very tense. The chase scenes were great and so were the few boss fights IF you know how to handle them. I almost rage quit on the first one, not understanding the mechanics and thinking this part of the game was just stupid. Got much more fun out of it during my second walkthrough. As Adam, you have more of an exploration style gameplay with some decent puzzle elements. His story went all over the place though.

There's one thing that really bothered me though. Especially in Adam's parts, it's trying hard to look realistic. And it does. But why didn't they implement proper object interaction? About 99% of the objects you can pick up in this game are just for sightseeing and story telling. There's hardly any object you need to actually move or throw. Yet, all you can do is pick something up and throw it away. So all these nice rooms with moveable chairs, cans, dishes, artwork.. everything ends up smashed against a wall or on the ground. Why?? Tons of games do this properly, why couldn't they do that here?

And there are these little quick-time events where you have to click a RANDOMIZED mouse button. You either like them or hate them. Luckely for me, they were used very sparsely.

Did play the game twice to get all achievements and actually liked the second run even more than the first one.

A must have for horror fans.

The beast within is a horror game that will keep you going with its calm/horror cycles.
The story is decent and the gameplay switches during the game are welcome and refreshing.

The graphics and music is ok, the cutscenes are kinda bad, especially the character designs, although not a deal breaker.

I would suggest it for horror fans that want a 6-8 hour playthrough.

Fear and paranoia are merged within two entwined stories told a century apart and tell a gripping tale of horror, madness, and dark, forgotten secrets. Explore the ruins of Blackstone, make your way through dark and dangerous caves, solve devilish puzzles, and make your way to an exciting conclusion. Dare you come face to face with The Beast Inside?

The Beast Inside mixes a fascinating story with a survival horror experience which I found engaging and interesting throughout the entire game. The world was stunning, the tale remarkable, and the action was quite gripping—all leaving a pleasant taste in my mouth well after the end credits rolled.

The landscape of The Beast Inside looks like an open world but it really is not. The lush and highly detailed world has paths that you must follow with fences, fallen trees, or other obstacles preventing you from straying too far. However, for this type of game I did not see it as a detriment and there is still plenty of the dangerous and beautifully crafted decrepit woodlands and ruins to explore.

The voice acting is well done and the music and background sound really helped set the tone of the story. Additionally, the amount of darkness in The Beast Inside made the game atmospherically perfect when coupled with a dwindling supply of oil for your lamp as your only source of light.

As a note, if you are a completionist and working on getting all of the achievements’ you will need to play this game at least four times so as to get all four of the different story endings. This was the only drawback to the achievement system that I experienced since both the automatic storyline and the secondary achievements were relatively easy and fun to get and gave me a real sense of accomplishment. Additionally this game has some severe jump scenes, some of which still got me even on the fourth and final playthrough.

The Beast Inside is an exciting take on thriller and survival horror with very few drawbacks. Overall, I enjoyed the game and would recommend it to those interested in horror games with a splash of deviously devilish puzzles to solve while you engage in a terrifying journey into horror.

Honestly, I loved the first few chapters of this game 1-2... everything after that just seems like a blur. The game goes from a horor game in the first two chapters to a walking simulator and just puzzle solving. I didn't want to believe the negative comments about this game so I decided to play it myself and actually finish the game before I commented on it. Having said all this It's an okay game. If you have the spare cash I would suggest looking into something that you might have been eyeing. I wish I would have listened and passed on this game. The Story is super bland. The character Adam is forgettable and annoying as hell. Nicolas Is an okay Character. The ending is so predictable that I figured the whole plot on Chapter 3. Nevertheless. I would not suggest wasting your money on this game. If it goes on sale then sure. but even then its a bit of a stretch for me to even suggest buying it. Don't be mislead by the Demo. It is completely different from what the actual game is.

I was a bit skeptical at first, but this game has a sense of depth in comparison to your typical survival horror. The story was crafted in a articulate way which made me remain engaged through the majority of the game. However, there were some minor spots in the game where I felt the creepy factor was a bit lack luster. The reason behind it was when you're already creeped out by the environment itself. Some of the ghosts that were placed in the areas...felt so out of place. Other than that, the game is gorgeous to look at.

The gameplay mechanics are simple enough for people to adjust immediately, puzzles are enjoyable to do where anyone can do it. I'm just glad you simply can't rely on a gun to solve all your problems. To the creators of this game, thank you for giving us what we need.

This game must have been written by a child, there can't be another explanation for ludicrous behaviour for the main characters, especially for the CIA-Guy beginning right from the start, while their constant narrating of everything only shows their stupdity and annoys the player to tears. The jumpscares can be predicted (with a 3-2-1-count) and get boring fast while the worldbuild is pretty but dull with constantly repeating items and pictures (seeing the same scary picture for the fifth time gets boring pretty soon while most are even actual historic ones, also to be seen in a dozend of other games by now). It also has clunky bossfights where you have to shoot a ghost over and over again with bullets lying everywhere for just that encounter or you have to quicktime the zombie of the brother of John Wilkes Booth to death. The only thing that kept me going was my humor. The few riddles like the Enigma or the safe puzzle were only things I found kind of neat, while the quantum device used by the CIA-Guy to kind of navigate him through plot and world is the dumbest thing imaginable.

This is game represents the problem with modern horror. It's just a batch of cliches mixed together without an actual idea of what horror and fear are and how to build them. It wants to be Lovecraft (there is a picture of him hanging on the wall, a business card of Herbert West can be found...) but does not understand what made Lovecraft so strong. If you never played a horror game before and you are scared of spooky images and sounds that are just thrown at you for every few minutes, this game might be interesting for you. For everyone else: Replay Soma, Amnesia or the first Layers of Fear, you'll get more out of them.

What a great game, I thoroughly enjoyed it. The story gets you hooked and it offers some unique gameplay elements I've never seen before let alone in a horror game. But most importantly the game gave me goosebumps on a regular basis. Although some jumpscares were a bit cheap or not in my vision while happening, I can fully recommend it to anyone who loves storydriven horrorgames. It also runs well enough on 4K and looks gorgeous! Thanks, devs, you did an outstanding job ❤

Feel free to follow my review page!

The gist of it:

The Beast Inside is an indie horror game that tries to set itself apart in a genre where rarely we get to play masterpieces such as Amnesia or Alien Isolation. Does it succeed? Sadly, no.

???? The good parts:
+Sometimes it's scary, I guess?

????The bad parts:
-Predictable plot hidden under incoherent spy story.
-Technically weak in optimizations and overall graphics.
-Gameplay mechanics copied from other horror games and slapped together for reasons.

Story

If you can't figure out the plot and
main twist from the games name
well then you're probably going to find the ending surprising. If you have figured it out just after a few hours of game time then yes, the game does not get better in its story department.

You're playing as two main characters, one CIA agent placed in the cold war era and the other dude in the 19th century or sometime in the past. The story starts intriguing enough, you just moved to a new house secluded from the city life where you're tasked with decrypting Russian spy stuff. As you explore the surroundings you uncover diaries of the family that lived there before you. As you read them the game then changes the perspective to the other character.

Slowly things get uncovered and the dark past of the house gets revealed near the end. The game comes with several endings but they're pretty much A, B, C and nothing you do in the game changes them. They're as stupid as it sounds and it just leaves things unsatisfying as hell, plot holes and all.

Assuming you haven't figured out the plot more than half way into the game you're in for a surprise I suppose. It's a standard horror trope, something we've seen many times before. It's a shame they went the generic way instead of trying to do something different with the spy stuff but instead, it's just a misdirection, a cheap one at that, from the weak ending.

The only reason I'm rating it a 6 is because it is coherent and quite decently constructed and while it's nothing new it's not bad either.

Story rating: 6/10

Gameplay

The gameplay at its core is a survival horror walking simulator half the game and the other is a puzzle-solving walking simulator. Neither parts are particularly good. The spy era is the puzzle-solving part and the one from the past is the horror one.

The spy part is probably the worst aspect of the game. You initially explore and decode stuff as decent and interesting puzzle mechanics but then it goes into sci-fi/fantasy territory as you apparently have a device that can see in the past, some form of ghostbusters thingamajig where in order to unlock the persons presence who was in that location previously you have to scan an area and then destroy quantum whatever things floating in the air. Other than that you will be forced to walk endlessly through ugly boring forestry areas. The puzzles themselves are average in difficulty and it takes no more than a few minutes to figure it out.

The other half is spent in the past playing as the previous owner of the house uncovering the secrets of what your characters father did and going through horror-like events and locations such as your house. No explanation is made on why you're being haunted and why is everyone a ghost or monster but as it's the case with generic horror the reasoning will always be your family is cursed or something bad your family has done. Take your pick, doesn't matter, but the gameplay is exactly as you'd expect from a weak horror game, it copies from others instead of bringing good mechanics. Water monster? Check. Stealth sections where you hide from insta-kill monsters? Check. Pointlessly only used only once mechanic and suddenly forgotten about? Check. The list goes on but to summarize, it feels cheap but to be fair, this is an indie game and budget has its limits. I just wish the indie horror genre would once do something unique. Remember Condemned? Why is no one copying that game?

At least I have 60 cases of oil so I will never run out of light even on the hardest difficulty which I have no idea what it does for a walking sim. Cheap scares are by definition cheap and the game overuses them just for scare points.

Gameplay rating: 5/10

Audio

Audio is a let down as well but it's one of the better things about the game. Voice acting overall is pretty decent, minus a character or two. Everyone speaks and acts quite well for their represented character.

The soundtrack is scarce and you'll almost never notice it and the atmospheric sound design is below average. Random whispers and few sound effects are not enough to boost the tense level design and it's incredible how after a decade a small team like Frictional still surpasses anyone in this regard. The audio design should come as a priority in making horror games. It's not bad but nothing impressive either.

Audio rating: 7/10

Graphics, performance and tech analysis

Graphically and technically it's pretty bad. Indie devs have yet to master the unreal engine 4 sadly. Huge performance issues on a 2080 with drops below 40, extremely bad pop in even on ultra with textures literally changing 2 feet in front of you, generic-looking forest areas, etc.

Artistically some of the interiors like the main house look good. Logically, the fact that you renovated the house entirely and you're shocked you found a hidden place upstairs after weeks is dumb as hell. You'll even notice doors placed in the attic for no reason.

It's a shame the atmosphere was not much of a priority...in a horror game.

Graphics, performance and tech analysis score: 5/10

Conclusion

The score pretty much tells you whether or not I recommend it but to sum up the game it would be a weak unoriginal horror game. Was budget an issue? Maybe. Instead of the spy part, they could've easily removed it entirely and used that time to develop the horror aspects a lot more. Players want to feel tense when playing horror games, they want to feel horrified, they want to see unique things, devs manipulating things around us but the Beast Inside relies too heavily on poping monsters in your face. I'm sorry but don't waste your money or get it on a huge sale if you're desperate for a horror game.

Final score: 5.7/10

I've progressed 4 chapters, and I gave up on the game because it felt like a drag. The story is not THAT interesting and gameplay is meh.
First you are led by the hand and railroaded, then you have 4th chapter, where you have to run in the fog where you see nothing, then have a reeeeally clunky shoot-out with an enemy.

I admit I was kinda curious what will happen, but not enough to play through.
So I decided to give the game another chance and try to play on Adventure to see the story, it turned out it erased my progress. WELL OKAY.

Ok, so I've played through most of it. And there are a lot of good stuff in here. I like the puzzles and the plot is very good. However, I have to admit that I'm not really enjoying the game all that much. There are some survival mechanics and chapters that drag on far too long where you are running from one-hit one-kill monsters. In the end, it gets frustrating, and you just want it to end.

The introduction of the quantum localizer-thing ruined it for me. That mechanic really takes me out of the game and strikes me more as annoying as an addition to the game.

Too bad because I really wanted to like this game.

I got suckered by the Demo. Got me excited to get the full game. Unfortunately, the full game leaves alot to be desired. After about 2 hours into it, I find the game pretty dull. The story is interesting, but there's just too much of Nothing going on in the game. Too much running around with the quantum localizer. Not many scary moments, apart from a few jump scares. The Puzzles aren't interesting, fortunately they give you the option to skip them. Wasn't worth the price I paid for in my opinion. I can name plenty of Horror games that were under $15 that were much better than this.

Joined the hype train when I played the demo. The demo is amazing but the main game adds features into the game that the demo doesn't have. These features, for me, were not my favorite part of the game and took back from the immersion. These features or mechanics were the QTE's during what I thought were cut scenes and the use of (possible spoiler) a tool that detects these strange signals. The game was still very enjoyable but was not the biggest fan of these two mechanics and wanted more genuine survival horror and less inspector gadget although, I did find the cryptography to be interesting even if I am terrible at puzzles. Would recommend this game just keep in mind it is not the exact same as the demo which for some may be a plus for some may not.

Im gonna try to be as thorough as possible because if other people are looking to buy this game, I want to let them know what their 25 dollars is going to.

This game isn't bad. The second chapter is an amazing example of good jump scares and just everything being PERFECT for a horror game. I sincerely wish this continued throughout the game.

After the second chapter the game just isn't that scary. Ever y other chapter you play as a different dude from a different timeline. Ones in the 1800's and the there is in the 1970's under president carters time in office. One guy is trying to figure out some kind of mystery revolving around his father and his lack of memories. The other follows a code breaker working for the CIA who's trying to crack a soviet code. The whole time you play as this guy your just basically walking around in the day time, collecting clues or chasing someone around, using your little ghost busters gun to do random un-immersive junk. Basically as far as I can tell the whole premise of this guy being in the game and you playing as him every other chapter is FILLER. Chapter 2 is truly perfect and its exactly what im looking for in a horror game. The jump scares WILL get you the first time around. After that, you get cheap jump scares, and the whole feeling you had at the start as our 1800's guy starts to die off as you leave the house and things are in full swing from there. Its not exactly challenging stuff, its not exactly scary stuff, its more or less a walk through of a haunted house, you never really feel like your in to much danger and if you are, its just easy to get out of. Also the puzzles can be a little much. Again filling in time with things that have nothing to do with why people buy horror games. They aren't even good puzzles, resident evil uses puzzles correctly. chapter 2 did it right. after that the whole game kinda just goes down hill.

All the cool stuff you see highlighted in videos about this game happens early on and after that i mean its just ok. Its not bad, its not great, its just OK.
Ive played much worse horror games but this is no Outlast, or Visage, or Infliction, or home sweet home.

If the game was completely from the 1800's guys perspective and they completely cut out the whole half of the game where your playing as adam it would be alot better. If they kept the momentum they built with chapter 2 up throughout the WHOLE GAME god damn this couldve been one of the best. But they gave us like 30 minutes of scary game plus 2.5 hours of Mediocre horror game than they just threw 3 hours of filler in on that and made the story around it all to make sense.

The house is perfect. Couldve really stretched out the time you play there. just i guess its ok. Its worth a buy if u have money to burn

Great game. I really enjoyed it. You play as 2 people in different periods of time. Lots of jump scares and some good chases and also a good battle. The scenery was beautiful in the one time period. Story was interesting. You have the choice of ending depending on what you pick. Definately recommend

its a really fun game actually. its a scary surrounding, has hard levels, good jumpscares, and an ok story. the only thing with the story is that the ending sucks. IT REALLY SUCKS THE ENDING. i would tell you what happens at the ending but i dont want to spoil it to you. overall its a really van game with an original idea and kind of has the fun physics like from amnesia. i would definitly say its worth buying since you'll also have 6 long hours of gameplay and you could also later play the story again since it has 3 different difficulties. but i would try adventurer first so you can most of the story. there are Also fun characters wich make the much more harder and fun. i think thats everything i like about this game the only down part was that the ending sucked, but that doesnt make it a bad game its still really good with a good story :)
