https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=2466578029

Ein echter Klassiker also?

https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=2466575183

Fun story but completely unplayable on Linux even though it's supposed to be a Linux port. Character freezes all the time, summons don't work, traps get activated and cause you damage even if you aren't on them etc. Shame on whoever ported this game for Linux. They did a horrible job.

Starts really fun; Midway feel like a boring chore once faced with infinite monsters that don't give exp. Partialy, due to leveling/upgrading which is either broken or just plain **** that just doesn't do anything. Also, upgrades feel like a scam rather than a reward. Furthermore, there is a huge stat allocation problem & maxing stats change nothing which made me not even care about finishing the game. Finally, finished game under 20h & did enjoy the end. Overall, a mediocre experience.

Remastered in this case just means upscaled/stretched visuals. Everything else just a mess.

While there was one issue with the game controls on Linux (which was solved thanks to the community) the overall experience is simply FUN. The dialogues in the game made me realize why the games several years ago were so fun to play. There were jokes! Man.... I'm going to miss this level of humor with the current titles. Play the game just for the sake of dialogues. 10/10 I will definitely come back to this title again.

I don't know how this game ended up in my library but it's really bad. Early 00's humor with bland game design. Not surprised to find out it's just PS2 shovelware. Wish I could find out how I got it, can't find a receipt anywhere.

The game is very fun, but the linux port is shit.
There's a bug where you either won't move at all or be stuck moving forward. It makes the game unplayable.

I love this game, but it's so bad that I need to get a refund.

Beer, Beer, Beer, tiddly beer, beer, beer

A long time ago way back in history
When all there was to drink, was nothing but cups of tea.
Along came a man by the name of Charlie Mopps,
And he invented a wonderful drink and he made it out of hops.

Hey!

He must have been an admiral, a sultan, or a king.
And to his praises we shall always sing.
Look at what he's done for us, he's filled us up with cheer.
Lord Bless Charlies Mopps the man who invented
Beer, Beer, Beer, tiddly beer, beer, beer

The Drunken Rat, the Aiken Drum, the Trowles Pub as well,
One thing you can be sure of, it's Charlie's beer they sell
So all ye lads and lasses at eleven o'clock ye stop.
For five short seconds, remember Charlie Mopps.

One,
Two,
Three,
Four,
Five...

Hey!

He must have been an admiral, a sultan, or a king.
And to his praises we shall always sing.
Look at what he's done for us, he's filled us up with cheer.
Lord Bless Charlie Mopps the man who invented
Beer, Beer, Beer, tiddly beer, beer, beer

A barrel of malt, a bushel of hops, you stir it around with a stick.
The kind of lubrication to make your engines tick.
forty pints of wallop a day will keep away the quacks.
Its only eight pence ha-penny, and one and six in tax.

One,
Two,
Three,
Four,
Five...

Hey!

He must have been an admiral, a sultan, or a king.
And to his praises we shall always sing.
Look at what he's done for us, he's filled us up with cheer.
Lord Bless Charlie Mopps the man who invented
Beer, Beer, Beer, tiddly beer, beer, beer, tiddly beer, beer, beer.

The Lord bless Charlie Mopps.

I knew about Bard's Table way before this version was even conceived, but my problem is this version. There are just too many glitches! There is a mainline quest where you get a bow and shoot some birds. At this point the Bard is stuck in space, although he is still able to rotate, and is unable to fire the bow. Upon googling steam forums to see if anyone else had the same issue, I found tons of players experiencing the same. This bug has been around for years, but the developers look like they have moved on. I am unable to progress any further in the game because of this. Really frustrating. One plays Bard's Tale to experience the story, so the experience is like buying a novel and finding out that half the book is missing. I'd not have spent money on this game if I knew about this beforehand.

I really enjoyed this snarky RPG, despite its technical flaws. I played it twice and replayed parts just to accomplish all of the endings. The game crashed several times, and performance was average at best. However, I have not played the latest version so maybe stability has improved. Achievements were added in an update so I might play it again some day.

I love this game, and was looking forward to replaying it after years since I played the PS2 version. But I can't recommend the Steam port. It's not great. Combat with the mouse feels clunky and unresponsive at times and the controller support is horrendous. BUT for some inexplicable reason, the Microsoft Store port of the game is actually very functional, and has native Xbox Controller support, pre-mapped and with proper button prompts. If you're thinking of playing this game, do, but don't buy it here. Get the Microsoft Store version.

Purchase and play one of the most hilarious games you can find, it's well worth the investment.

I found this accessible through an old friends library share and found it immediately addicting.

The whole game is a riot of laughs right from the get-go and never stops.

Look for my game play walk-through, which will be coming soon and help players capture all that the game has to offer.

It's got terrible voice acting (with some exceptions), the worst pacing I've ever seen, and the mechanics aren't very well balanced. And somehow, I still love this game to bits, and I think it's all down to the briliant writing. The controls for pc are aweful though, so I recomend getting a controller, or better still, download the free mobile version of this game. the mobile port is free, without ads, runs super smoothly for a mobile game, has great controlls for touch, and is also mobile. This game is low on quality, but high on fun, and I don't mean gameplay necissarily, but just the narrative.

How I wish I could give this a thumbs up, because I loved this game, if only for the humor and the songs, but... I've yet to finish it. In the last 10 years or so, I was unable to finish this game on several computers, because there is always something else that breaks. Call me unlucky.

Nvidia laptop, was unplayable halfway in because there was storm/rain in a town that reduced my frames to 1-2 because of shader problems.

Tried it again on the next desktop with radeon gpu, couldn't even leave the starting inn, because that blue sparkle effect in which a creature/person appears also reduced my frames to 0, another kind of shader problem.

Now I wanted to try again, yet another desktop, but now I am running Linux and the Linux version is borked. It's impossible to rebind keys and I got stuck in one of the first cutscenes. With proton, the game gets stuck on an endless loading screen before it even starts.

I now have bought this game three times and I can't even finish it once.
I don't even know why I am still trying. The combat was bad, the interface was bad, the graphics were bad. You really have to be into older games if you want to try this one. But I loved its music and the narration and the silliness, despite all its flaws.

If you want to try your luck with this game, make sure to test if it actually works before your refund window is up.

This game's pretty funny and has all the charm of an early 2000's PS2 game. If you're looking to pick up this game for anything other than nostalgia I wouldn't really recommend it because the combat is nothing to boast about and is pretty short to boot. The story is a parody of high fantasy RPGs and thus never really takes itself seriously. Personally I think the bard's meta relationship with the narrator makes up for the horrendous dungeons and waves of boring enemies the game throws at you. As you might've already noticed the game isn't really a proper remaster besides the work done to the original bard trilogy. The PS2 title is simply a port that doesn't enhance the visuals or mechanics in any noticeable fashion. This is great if you're into the grungy PS2 aesthetic but terrible if you expect anything else. Personally I am of the former. Like any game that's ever come out in the history of forever, The Bard's Tale comes packed with some minute but noticeable bugs. For example, some of the achievements were either activated early or not activated at all. Furthermore, the audio from the narrator and bard seemed to cut off anytime you paused the game or went into any menu which is slightly frustrating if you're trying to experience this game's main appeal :P. Additionally I experience some minor slowdowns and frame drops that seemed to happen during combat. Not sure why this is but it's definitely not something on my end since my computer is more than capable of handling a 16 year old PS2 title with a lackluster paint-job. There was only one crash I experienced towards the end of the game and to top it all off the final boss straight up refused to attack me and I was granted a free win. I honestly am glad for this since I was probably underleveled and underpowered from just running away from all danger and threats that came my way since the combat took too long. As for the original bard's tale trilogy, I can't exactly speak on that since I don't think I have the patience for games as old as they are but if you're just looking for a game that'll give you a good ol belly laugh then I'd say pick it up just for the PS2 title. You can almost never go wrong with grimy PS2 games : >.

I first played this game way back in the 90s and loved it! Decided to start playing some of my library of games from the heyday of RPGs and this is still timelessly awesome --- the dialogue alone is so hilarious that it's a joy to play! And, for me, who loves to play for the adventure and the role-playing and has never been a master at combat, the simplicity of the cheat system is incredible, doesn't require editing or even use of the console. If you want money to spend and don't want to mess with healing and dying, that's a big perk. Primarily, however, I'd play it just for the sheer hilarity and joy of the dialogue and the story!!!

+Decent humor
+Somewhat open world with some side quests and abilities that wont be found without exploration

~Graphics are on par with a game from 2005
~Story is dumb but the humor makes fun of the cliches multiple times
~Has a leveling system but its small and boring

-God awful combat. Its so stale, slow and clunky. Even just moving around is painful.

As someone who went into this with no nostalgia, its a pretty bad game. Its clearly centered around the combat and humor and the combat is just terrible. Couldn't even finish the game.

Enjoyable for the jokes, self-awareness, parody of fantasy tropes and celtic spin on fantasy. If only there were more such tongue-in-cheek games.

However, self-awareness only gets you so far and the game has not aged well. Controls are clunky, combat rather simple, environments linear and there isn't all that much to do. Halfway through the game I felt I have seen all it has to give, and the remaining 10 hours proved me right.

All in all, recommended only as a curio for those interested in video game history, not recommended as a game per se.

Unfortunately this is just too buggy to be played on Linux. I don't have a unique setup, I'm just running Ubuntu (20.04). But as well as crashing frequently, I've run into the movement controls not working, not able to use a weapon (the bow), and cut scenes just hanging. Looking at the discussions, it seems I'm not alone. It's a shame, as there could be a fun parody of an RPG in here somewhere, but it's just too frustrating trying to play it on Linux.

The phrase Laugh Out Loud (LOL) is just way overused in today's culture. To be honest, though, most things really don't make us LOL, we just use it to mean that something was kind of funny.
This game, however, literally made me laugh out loud, in fact I gawfed, snorted, chuckled, giggled, and basically made a lot of other noised out loud while playing. No other game that I have ever played was as funny as this game. Using Carey Ewles (who, unlike other actors, does have an English accent) was a stroke of genius. He adds a level of comedy that no other game can match.
As for the game itself, it is actually a lot of fun. It doesn't do anything new or fancy to the genre (although unlocking and summoning which helper you need for each obstacle you face is a neat idea), but it does what it does really well.
If you are looking for the next Dungeon Siege / Baldur's Gate, than this might not be what you want. BUT, if you want a really fun game that sticks to the basic tenants of the RPG genre, plus you want to be thoroughly entertained - than you owe it to yourself to give this game a shot.

What a shame.
I have fond memories of the Bard's Tale series. This one had a lot of fun with the setting, made fun of various fantasy clichees, showed the angle of the non-hero, and was all around humorous. But my good did that age poorly.
Not quite to the point of unplayable, but close. Definitely not worth its money anymore.

After too long a time, I have finally had the time to sit down and finish this game. I enjoyed every minute of it. Sure, it isn't the prettiest of things these days, but that hasn't stopped me from enjoying other games. The end was something I saw coming, but was well handled. This really is a gem. Buy it, play it, finish it. From looking at the achievements it seems very few people finish this and there is no reason not to.

The only group of players I can't recommend this game to are those looking for deep, rich and serious storytelling in their RPGs. This is an extremely silly take on all the common RPG tropes, which continues to make fun of itself even without ever breaking the fourth wall - well, with exception to literally the funniest part of the whole game. Tremendous replay value. If you need a good laugh, this is well worth the money.

A dramatic, heartbreaking, humorous and truly epic RPG full of twists, women, banter and music based on an old school classic that I've never played because it's like twice my age. Buy it if you want to roleplay as a rather unsuccessfull bard with the biggest ego mankind has ever witnessed or if you want to get bullied by the narrator of your own story. No kinkshaming.

Fun. Snarky character. Easier to play with a controller rather than a just a keyboard.

LOVE this game.
Better graphics than it had back in 2004 and the whole game has been remastered (except for the videos).

If you love Rpgs / Adventure / DnD / etc etc - get this game you won't regret it.

The Bard's Tale proves that fantasy RPGs with a more comedic focus and a hefty inclusion of silly musical numbers need to be made more often.

Horrible controls. Absolutely horrible. I've seen better mobile ports on Steam with better controls than this. It may have been a classic, it may have been amazing, but when you 'remaster' something to the PC, it should've been updated on controls to work with modern day gaming. Between handling the controls and fighting with the camera made me want to rip out my hair. If this was ported from the console era, it surely needs to go back. I know inXile makes great titles (e.g. Wasteland series), but this I couldn't get passed the controls/camera.

Use a controller one might say? I didn't know cRPGs were required to use a controller! That's like asking Neverwinter Nights, Divinity Series, Baldur’s Gate, old school Fallout, etc. to be used with controller support. *throws up face* No, thanks.

The Story is narrated by one and only Tony Jay (RIP 2006) https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tony_Jay
Voice acting is top notch and the game could be just about anything as long as the writing and voice delivery is at such a level. Plenty of innuendo jokes and adult humour that can slip past unnoticed for younger audience (the best kind of adult humour).

Game mechanics themselves can be clunky at times (nearly top down camera with small angle of view), luckily the whole hotkey mechanic is in the reach of WASD controls and is comfortable even when you have to perform multiple actions in seconds, once you memorise the key combinations that is.

This game is a work of art, definitely worth not only in your collection, but a playthrough or two as there are multiple endings.

The game is not too long and not too short.
When I have the time I will play this game again(and again, and again).

Thanks to the creators for a great game.

I really wanted to like this game.
The writing is hilarious and all the voice acting is fantastic.
But the level design and combat are just terrible, which would've been tolerable if I could run past mobs. But the amount of mobs they throw at you is ridiculous! You're expected to fight so many boring mobs between each story segment. An area that would normally have, like, 5 mobs in a normal game would have a 100 mobs in this game. it's just unbelievably tedious.
I had to stop 5 hours into it. I tried looking for mods that would make this bearable, sadly with no results.
