This was the game I installed Steam for. Played it in my teenage years and couldn't accept TF2 when it came out as it was too cartoonish (still switched later as it was a great game). I still miss serious-styled TF. And the times when Pyro was the weakest class.

Ok, if you're coming of tf2 and are considering buying this game, slow down. The two games are quite different, and for some reason the tfc fanbase has a superiority complex when it comes to them and tf2. However, this game is absolutely one of the best fps games I've ever played. It has some element that are a part of tf2, such as srocket jumping with is a lot easier here, but it also has shit like grenades and civilian. In my humble opinion, I prefer this over tf2, mostly because it makes shit a lot easier and harder at the same time, and thus balances it in a way that I enjoy. The game has players still playing it, and a hell of a lot of servers online ( but none is Australia :), so you can jump right in. The players will be much better than you, and stuff might be uncomfortable at first, but it will become easier to grasp after a while. My advice is, create a local server to mesa around on, try every class to find out what fits you, read the class and map descriptions and also maybe the wiki pages for it on the tf2 wiki, and have fun :). Also, sticky bombs don't exist, they're replaced by pipebombs that can be remotely triggered. Just a headup for demoman mains :). I'm not an expert, just a 14 year old who really likes this game.

Ever since tf2 came out this game has been really dead
But it's really good even without the cosmetics and unlocks.

Team Fortress Classic doesn't get enough attention. It's a time capsule to the multiplayer FPS battlegrounds in 1999 that amazingly still has an active player base with hundreds of running servers. I always come back to it in December knowing that the decorative snow and fireplaces in 2fort are there.

Biggest letdown in this game, like every other multiplayer boomer shooter, is that everyone else has had a 20+ year headstart to perfect their craft while you struggle to get your feet in the water.

It's a pretty good game with a small but active player base which is mostly made up of long-time players of the game.

If you are a Team Fortress 2 player, you will find the way the game plays and its mechanics to feel weird and clunky at first as the classes in the game and the weapons they use are much different from the ones in Team Fortress 2 as well as having 2 different grenades that can be used for each class.

If you were going to buy it, I'd say to wait for it to go on sale unless you have fond memories of this game and play it a lot.

I come form the land of TF2. Yes, TF2 brought me into TFC, but wait, I assure you both games are different and great. Whilst TF2 provides more role-based combat, TFC allows are classes to go into the front line of any fight. The spy for instance, is equipped with a shotgun, which sounds pretty crazy if you are coming from TF2. The inclusion of armor is a great and supportive feature, allowing front line engineers to help you survive a swarm of bullets. Though armor is confusing to the new player, and the community of master players can seem scary, but with a few hours learning the game, you can start to fight and kill them.

In summary, even if you own TF2, you should try TFC

sick of seeing people shit on this game because it doesn't compare to tf2 well if you think about it tf2 wouldn't even be made if this or the original mod wasn't made, this game may be dated ina lot of aspects but it doesn't change how important this game is and how much fun it can be.

Ah yes the classic of classics, I like this game for many reasons, the classes are much different from TF2's and has a lot of cool, interesting, and sometimes OP weapons that I wish were in TF2 (most wanted is probably the Nailgun) I really enjoy the different types of grenades allowing for some sweet sweet quick kills >:) This game was very innovative for it's time and there wasn't really an FPS like this at the time, I would recommend if your a fan of the classics, there may not be many servers but when you do find one, your gonna have a lot of chaotic fun lmao, players are very crazy in this game. I mainly got this game because of how it played and was overall interested what TF2 was originally like and I wasn't let down. :)

The game is fun; however, the handful of people that still play it are veterans so you need to have your sht together when playing. Because there aren't that many people still playing, it is not beginner friendly. It's Friday night and there are under 40 people playing for example.

Jokes aside, this game is an extremely fun classic of its genre, which preceded the extremely successful sequel; Team Fortress 2.

After playing a couple dozen hours, both Online, and Offline with bots, I can safely say that I find this game to actually be more fun than TF2.
Despite its outdated graphics, it's seriously not that bad and it's very playable, although you might just as well pass up on it if graphics were the sole reason you played videogames.

A sad fact is that it's not nearly as popular as it should be (although it's not as close to being dead as a lot of people claim it to be), considering how fun it is; there's only around 140 players playing a day, roughly half of which are players who likely got it by mistake. Most of these players don't have any idea what to do or how things work, and who most of the time don't even know how to change their name or use chat, meaning that, sadly, most of these players leave and never come back to try playing again.
If you do happen to run into the rare actual players, they are usually quite wholesome people you can have a nice game with, regardless whether you're on the same team as them.

Truth being told, it's never exactly been friendly for new players, at least not to those who don't make a habit of looking through the all the options first, before actually trying to play, and a large part is actually made up from TF2 players, who, obnoxious most of them are, obviously come in expecting TF2 gameplay.

I am not going to sugarcoat it here: Just because you can't understand the game's basic mechanics doesn't mean it's complicated. The classes are constructed differently, and the developers were so kind as to actually provide you with a complete manual on how to play each and every class, in detail; and it's your problem if you can't even read simple text. You have to learn how to play a completely new game.

If you're the type of person who is into old-school games, and who is as thorough as a normal person would be, then you'll feel at home.
I have absolutely no regrets after buying it, just be prepared not to meet too many players along the way.

Been playing this since 2001. Back before Steam existed.

It's the online multiplayer game that I will remember most and the reason I am *AKA*-4-LIFE.

A lot of late nights laughing 'til we cried. So much fun!

20 years later now and this is the first review I've ever given a game because it deserves it.

It's ok. If you do not like weird mechanics and trash controls then do NOT buy this game. I don't really enjoy it but I also do not hate it. The game is old. VERY VERY OLD!! The game doesn't have fast weapon switch, the controls are dog shit trash but it's semi-fun, if you find the right server that is.

Team Fortress Classic has nothing to do with Team Fortress 2. They are completely different games with different mechanics, although the classes seem similar.

General:
-TFC has grenades.
-Classes also have armor.
-Health Pool is different.
-Bhop is possible.
-While in TF2, the best gamemodes are Control Points, King of the Hill and Payload, in TFC it is actually Capture the Flag.

Scout:
-In TFC, he is used for his speed to cap the flag, rarely fights.
-No double jump. Concussion grenades are used and they are way more powerful.
-No Scattergun, has only a weak shotgun and a Nailgun used against sentries.

Soldier:
-Soldier has normal grenades and nail grenades - which shoot nails in 360 degrees and deal damage.
-Has a normal weak shotgun and a more powerful one.

Pyro:
-No airblast.
-Flamethrower deals damage depending on the amount of armor the victim has.
-Has an Incendiary Cannon which acts as a Rocket Launcher, but sets enemies on fire.
-Has normal grenades and Napalm grenades - which set enemies on fire.

Demoman:
-No Stickybomb Launcher, replaced by the Pipebomb Launcher. Pipebombs don't stick to surface.
-The Grenade and Pipebomb Launcher share the same ammo pool.
-Has a single-barrel shotgun.
-Has a detpack which has the ability to clear obstacles and open new entrances.
-Has normal grenades and MIRV ones - they split into smaller grenades which explode.

Heavy:
-Has 2 shotguns.
-Also has MIRV grenades.

Engineer:
-Cannot pick-up buildings.
-Has powerful EMP grenades which blow up the enemy's ammo and cause damage.

Medic:
-Medic is also used for capping flags because of his speed and concussion jumping ability, but is more powerful than Scout.
-Can infect classes with his medpack.
-No Medigun therefore no Ubercharge.
-His super nailgun is good against sentry guns.

Sniper:
-Basically TF2 sniper with the Classic and grenades.

Spy:
-Has a Tranquilizer Gun.
-Has a shotgun.
-Can feign death.
-Has Hallucination Grenades.

Civillian is the last class which is used in special gamemodes.

Teams are pit against each other where Red uses defensive classes to protect their flag from Blue, which use mainly Scouts and Medics to capture it.

The community is very small and there are only a couple of servers at a time, but the game is a classic and I recommend it.

This game surprised me. I've played hundreds of hours on TF2, and decided to check out it's predecessor. I was pleasantly surprised to find this game to be just as good, if not better than TF2! For five dollars, it's a
no-brainer. This is a must buy for shooter and strategy fans alike.

I recommend TFC but make sure you pay attention to the minimum system requirements: 500 mhz processor, 96 mb ram, 16 mb video card, Windows XP, mouse, keyboard, internet connection.

Don't make the same mistake I did and think you can play this game in 2021 with a 150 mhz processor, 8 mb ram, 1 mb video card, Windows 95, and no input devices or internet connection. I was unfortunately unable to use my standard gaming rig to play it.

This game is old.. it still costs $ and doesn't have many servers left.. But I am going to bring it back from the brink of extinction! It will thrive and see the light of day for many years to come if I know what's good for me.. which I do, I'm a Dr. well not really but u know what i mean.

Give this game a chance it has a charm you won't forget.. just remember to uncheck the box in settings that says HD models. It gets rid of the horrid HD shot gun sound. that thing is terrible!

I decided to buy Team Fortress Classic because I enjoyed Team Fortress 2 and I wanted to get a taste of the good old original. The graphics were good for it's time, yet it's more nostalgic than good. The game play is pretty good. Team Fortress 2 is a better game in my opinion, but I am not saying in anyway this game is bad.

Do I recommend it?
Yes. The game is fun and it's cool to see the classic version of a really good game.

Still Active servers with people.Enjoyed it at that time and i checked it recently again I got a bit of Nostalgia.

I still recommend this within a bundle, like the Half-Life ones, because it's a nice game and bundles may give you great discounts. The sole issue is that it can be played on multiplayer only, there's no single mode, and as you can imagine, servers are mostly dead nowadays, with just a few souls online, since Team Fortress 2 is way more popular, robust and also free on Steam. Nonetheless, it'll be good if you can gather your friends to play together.

Ainda recomendo isto dentro de algum pacote, como aqueles do Half-Life, pois é um bom jogo e pacotes podem te dar ótimos descontos. O único problema é que ele só pode ser jogado em multijogador, não há um modo de jogador único e, como se pode imaginar, os servidores estão majoritariamente mortos hoje em dia, só com alguns gatos pingados conectados, já que o Team Fortress 2 é muito mais popular, robusto e também gratuito na Steam. De qualquer forma, será bom que você reúna seus amigos para jogarem juntos,

I remember that used to play this' WON version, good great game, but needs some improvements like better security and official bot support. And most of all, better official weapon models, some p models and v models are not even the same, unless user places custom models to make it fit but yeah it's old to update for some.

Whenever I play this game, there's nothing that can make me happier. I want to marry this game and have it hold my hand gently and smile at me as I pass onto the next life on my deathbed, only to meet this game again and forge a new relationship to re-live the joy. If I could trap time in a bottle, the first thing that I'd like to do, is save every day in an eternity and then spend it all with this game, and the friends whom I play it with. Team Fortress Classic is the best game of all time. There is simply no question. It is the penultimate FPS experience.

I loved team fortress two and I got it on the orange box bundle(for xbox)then the disc got too scratched up so i got it for pc but its more of a work laptop so it dosent run well then i found this and its one of my favirote valve games(sorry for the spelling mistakes)

Fast paced, Independent half life mod, it's really intruiging, very futuristic for it's time, but the golden time has passed, the game has already seen it's golden ages, but in itself, it is nice and enjoyable.

If you like TF2 you'll definitely like this. There's also some interesting unique mechanics that haven't made it through the transition into TF2. I feel like most people looking to buy this are familiar with that game. Don't think of this as just TF2 with less players and worse graphics, there are a ton of little aspects that make it unique.

I'd definitely recommend checking this game out during the next steam sale when it's a dollar or so. Also, I'd love to see more players enjoying and making content for this game as there's not many people active anymore

this game was the reason team fortress 2 exist, it was alot of fun
the fun classes were scout and heavy,
the maps are fun

try switching to wide screen and shit is fucked
the way to get true wide screen if you go to properties
then launch options
and add the commands -w 1024 -h 768 -stretchaspect
the graphics are shit but that is the charm since it's from 1999, everytime i see the graphic, i always feel like im back in the 1990 playing doom or quake
i give it a 9.5/10 classic masterpiece

Great game, used to play tons back in the 2000s. Seen a slight resurgence after a Steam sale event which I was really happy about, with a lot of players on there reminiscing about the good old days - but some of those players are screaming at at other players over the voice chat for not being an elite-player level after over a decade away or for not having played before causing lots of potentially new players to leave, including myself. Sadly these toxic gamers outnumber make it a bit too unpleasant to stay.
Well done guys, you get to take the football home and play by yourself.

I want to like Team Fortress Classic, but every time I try it I bounce off. Hard. The playerbase is highly-skilled at this point, which wouldn't be so bad if this wasn't another FPS that allows for very highspeed movement. Trying to hit someone who is flying around you or who seems to be taking no damage from your shots is a special kind of demoralizing.

Hit detection can be confusing. Shots seem to fly everywhere, and the Pyro's flamethrower doesn't actually seem to do anything half the time. Melee is an option, but you'll have a hard time hitting anyone unless you're already used to trying to hit fast, seemingly-random players. Grenades are an option for all classes, which leaves the demo class feeling kinda pointless. Shotguns are also universal, which does even more to make the classes feel less unique and less reliant on teammates.

I haven't played TF2 in a while, so it might be trash now (I'm not a fan of everything Valve was pumping the game with). That being said, TF2 is vastly superior to Team Fortress Classic mechanically. TF2 movement makes more sense and is easier to follow, classes are distinct enough that you often have to rely on your teammates to do something you can't (when things are going well), and TF2 is overall far easier to learn and understand on a moment-to-moment basis. There's not much to the Team Fortress series outside mechanics, so that makes TF2 a far superior game in my eyes.

Team Fortress Classic is an interesting relic that doesn't hold up.

Team Fortress Classic - My childhood and where my gaming life begins

I remember playing this for the first time like it was yesterday... It was a time when there was no CSGO fanatics but CS 1.6 and F2P asian games, GMod was popular as heck, YouTube was so much better, TFC vs TF2, COD vs Battlefield and people were [strike]suffering[/strike] waiting for Episode 3. To be honest, I could have been those type of kids who just wanted to grind on CS 1.6 and play LAN Parties / Online Tournaments. It didn't happen at all, because, thankfully, I tried out Half-life 1 (from non steam CS 1.6 client) and I met the wonderful world of Valve and their games. After googling for more Valve games, I got tons of information about them. Although, what got my attention was this old school class and team based shooter called Team Fortress.

Since I had Pentium 3, 512MB of RAM and Windows XP 32-Bits laptop, I only could play TFC and GoldSource based games. So, I gave this game a shot... And oh boy, until this day, I don't regret my decision.
The community was unique and, overall, friendly. There were tons of community made content, like maps, plugins, ect. The gameplay was (and still is) so fast paced and high skilled. Back then, this game was perfect, despite of its flaws of course (nades spam, not newbie friendly, some class balance issues, ect).

I was just a filthy casual gamer who grinded alot on adventure and escape maps from a US server, if I am not mistaken, but that server is the source of all my best childhood moments that are still alive on my brain. Also, that server was where I met some remarkable people and two of them are still present in my current life and it has been almost 10 years (more or less).

Despite of not being active as it used to, I am thankfull that I have these memories and current friends, all thanks to this old masterpiece. Thank you TFC and community.

In my ongoing and likely futile effort to write a Steam review for every game in my library (#270 out of 558)... it's time for Team Fortress Classic.

With Team Fortress 2, there's not exactly a lot of reason to go back to the original game. It's still here, though, and still good--and, if nothing else, its simplicity and rough-around-the-edges nature has its own kind of charm.

In 1999/2000 you would open TFC. If you liked junk, you would open Gamespy, but you just had to hit FInd Servers.

This game was amazing, Buying it at Computer City with the Counter Strike and Blue Shift bundle was a deal.

Nobody really plays anymore. There might be a few of us old timers who jump on, my last dash was 3 years ago.

BUT

I will always recommend it for someone who still has a old Tandy and an Earthlink account. I mean, if you have the Turbo button. 33mhz just wont cut it. 66mhz its fine.

Great game. It is mostly made out of fun and rivalry than story, there is'nt one. Its just a bunch of dudes having fun killing each other with slight psychotic tendencies.

One of my first Steam/online games and a deeply missed one - cool maps, cool gameplay, cool dynamics; there's nothing not to love here.

I've played quite a few games, very few do I come back to again and again. This is one of them. Nevermind the out-dated graphics, the gameplay is CLASSIC.
