Positives:
-Schöne Grafik.
-Gut inszenierte Szenen.
-Angenehmes Pacing.
-Tolles Kampfsystem.
-Relativ spannende Story.
Negatives:
-Etwas zum Teil nervige Charaktere.
-Typischer JRPG Protagonist, nichts Besonderes.
Alles in Einem:
7,5/10.

Hier die posetiven Eigenschaften:
✅ Story
✅ Fähigkeiten sowie Animationen
✅ Gameplay
✅ Grafik allerdings recht schlechte Kantenglättung
✅ Musik
✅ Atmosphäre
✅ Design der Items
✅ Minimap
Negatives:
Orangelee da man beinahe kaum Gold bekommt.

Story:
The games story starts out solid and interesting but the further you go the worse it gets. Each zones lords has barely any story to them, the story contradicts itself in many spots, you'll have multiple skits about a topic your party just talked about and answered right after viewing a scene, and many mindnumbing party interactions.
Gameplay:
Battle system is so terribly boring and stripped down i eventually set the AI to just fight for me. you mash your attack button, and then press a button to do the assigned art. sounds like previous tales games right? but no.. other tales games for example you can hold up + attack to hit aerial enemies but you cant do that in this game. boost attacks are lame attacks that have special properties tied to each character and you will find yourself just spamming them over and over even if you arent using the special property.
Aside from the graphics being very beautiful, the gameworld is very boring and poorly designed. Each zone has short linear pathing through each map that you just zoom through. it is a very serious downgrade from Tales of Berseria where the world actually still felt good. Quests in this game aren't very interesting either, its usually always either a gathering quest that you instant turn in, or a hunt 3 of these mobs on the screen before the town quest.
The characters.... oh god... none of your party members are well written or interesting. Rinwell might be the most well done, but even she is fairly cringe at times. For me this is the first tales game where i couldn't care any less about the entire cast.
Weapons are mostly reskins of the same 4 weapons over and over again. Very very lazy. Also most of these weapons look TERRIBLE themselves. You will most likely be using the weapon transmog to the 1 weapon you do like.
Seriously i have no idea how this game is very positive reviews. Its VERY poorly made. Do yourself a favor and skip this one or buy it on a 80% off sale or something if you feel the need to absolutely try it. You will be full of regret if you buy it at full price or even just buying any of the DLC.

Great first half, serviceable second half - monetization issues
Quick Summary
Tales of Arise had me infatuated in the first half of the game. Loved Alphen and Shionne and the other party members. You can tell the studio had a bigger budget for this title because the world was breathtaking and I thought the UI was slick. I was really digging the story until the second to late stages of the game where it kind of fell apart. The ending was OK, and I'm happy with the conclusion of our party member's individual stories, but the world building and story as a whole fell flat for me. The villain was absolutely underwhelming as well.
There's a few big negatives that I'd like to share below, one of them being monetization that is getting a bit more insidious and affecting the game in significant ways. Overall though, I think the positives outweighed the negatives for me and I'm recommending it - I think it was worth the full price I paid minus the deluxe/ultimate edition. On a sale - definitely worth a buy. Just keep in mind the monetization used here and your comfort level supporting it.
Good things
- Beautiful World and art style
- Character Designs
- Shionne/Alphen - Love 'em even with the back and forth 'get a room tension'. Yeah the thorns suck. I get it.
- Voice Acting - I used the Japanese VA and I thought they were great. Heard good things about the English cast.
- UI was pretty. Menus easily navigable.
- Combat was fun with some caveats on the negative section below.
Bad Things
- I'm definitely firmly on board the enemies are bullet sponges train. I'm positive its to do with the DLC purchases of currencies/growth booster/and levels. These all sell for real world moolah like other big games have been doing. I was a bad dude and bought the ultimate version with all the DLC and it STILL felt like I had to burn through way too many enemies to get the levels/CP I needed. Yes you can turn the difficulty down, but it is a band-aid only. Still a slog.
- Monetization continued - There are skill sets locked behind DLC. I've come to terms with costumes and cosmetics. I don't like it as I feel more accomplished earning these things in-game. Fine though. Tales of Arise quietly takes this to the next level locking actual skills behind a paywall day one. Not cool. I used a few of these skills on my characters for the entire course of the game. People not willing to shell out more money for a full priced game are locked out. Personally I think that's disgusting and feel guilty for buying into the ultimate edition. Yes I was a part of the problem on this. I must atone for my sins.
- The story in the first half of the game was going places. I was looking forward to each new area and custscene. Then around the halfway point I got that feeling that things were starting to fall apart world-building/story-wise. Towards the end it was an absolute slog to get through. All of my excitement and motivation to see Legenis and Rena and the conclusion just sort of died. The areas were boring and the dungeons even more so. Filler skits harass you at every turn. The only thing that saved this was the characters themselves and their individual stories.

Pros:
- The combat is super fun, if a little repetitive, and has the right amount of flashiness and intricacy that I felt was promised from the trailers. Each character has a wide variety of skills and specialisations, with every one of them feeling vastly different when in the players hands. Good stuff all round.
- The world is absolutely gorgeous. Every single zone is beyond pretty; even the first zone, which is very dull, still manages to have some stunning presentation. Some of the later game areas can feel a little same-y, but overall you never feel like you're in the same place twice. (Ganath Haros is beautiful, hands down the best area in the game.)
- Music is very nice, combat music is an absolute treat and the overworld ambience is quite low-key but still enjoyable. One of the few games where I never bothered to turn down the volume.
Cons
- The monetisation is bad. Super anti-consumer. With outfits that have skill lines locked behind them (three for each character), levels, currency, and game enhancing artefacts - it really feels jarring to have a pay-for-power system in a single player RPG.
- Late game areas and monsters drag. Hard. You feel it a little coming into the late game sections, but the lead up to the final boss in Rena takes about 3-4 hours and most of that time will be sent fighting the same, palette swapped mini-bosses from previous areas. This slog absolutely kills the momentum of the game and brings it down for me, as it also hurts the narrative pacing. Speaking of which....
- The story does NOT stick the landing. As basic as the story is I found it enjoyable, with a lot of nice story beats and healthy if predictable character development. The whole cast is interesting and bounce off each other quite well through the games scenes (about 300 of them, all quite fun to flick through). But. BUT. It fails to conclude in a way that doesn't feel forced. The natural end to the story felt like it took place about 4 hours prior but you get thrust into a massive, convoluted plot-line that makes a lick of sense yet tries to cram more concepts into its 4 hour runtime than the base game did in 20. This, paired with the massive combat slog, is super painful to play through and hurts the story way more than it should be allowed to. It overrides the natural conclusions of not only the main plot but the characters themselves for the sake of...I still can't tell. Not awesome.
Overall I think the game is great, I got 100% on it for a reason, and the presentation is off the charts. While the narrative suffers near the end I feel like the fact its a small chunk of an otherwise fantastic game lets me forgive and forget. If you can buy the game on sale I would, its a good 30-40 hours you can spend immersed in a fun, if generic, JRPG with a beautiful combat system.

My final verdict, i do not recommend this entry in the Tales of series, which is sad. I loved all of them on steam, with Symphonia being my first and favorit out of them. But i did not enjoy Tales of Arise, it felt more like work.

35.7% of players have the achievement for finishing the game. This is a fair warning. There is a staggering amount of time you will simply be absorbing story, and if you skip it ... good luck trying to follow what is happening.

To recap the points I enjoyed: extensive and unpredictable story, with lots of voice acting and graphical spectacle. Challenging fights that require constant adaptations to the used skills and strategies. Beautiful and diverse levels.
Then to the less positive sides:
- startup is unnecessarily slow: after 2 splash screens, 4 advertisement screens with the cooperating companies, then a warning about auto save you need to click away, then it loads and starts a video clip that you have to stop, then another screen with 'press any key', before you finally arrive at the main menu and can choose to start playing.
- port to the PC is 'lazy' in that all controller keys are mapped one-on-one to the keyboard, without supporting many of the standard conventions, like 'i' for inventory, and F5/F9 for quick save/load. (There is no quick save at all, but admittedly there is not much need either.) One of the strangest choices is that there is no obvious way to quit or go back to the main menu - you need to use the tab key (for pause, but ESC works just as well for that) and choose the option there. But I often ended up using Alt-F4 to terminate the program hard (making sure there was no auto-save in progress), because going back to the main menu, you have to wait again until the video clip has loaded and starts playing, and then the other superfluous 'press any key to continue' screen before you finally can select that you want to quit.
- replayability is pretty minimal - it plays out like an interactive movie, with lots of conversations (skits) and cut-scenes, alternated with a bit of walking the predefined path, and a lot of extensive fights. You don't get to make any choices that influence the story development. Yes, there are side-quests, but usually only a few, and you sort of need to do all for the skill points rewards. Yes, you can explore freely, but many maps are a straightforward single path through, and you only get one new map to 'explore' at any given time. Yes, you can choose where to put your skill points, but in the end you get more than enough to choose all skills, so you can only vary the order a bit. Yes, there are armors to be found/bought and weapons to be crafted, but these are strictly regulated when they become available, and each one is suitable for exactly one character. Yes, you have six characters, but they are always all there; you can choose with 4 to do fights with, though. The biggest reason I can think of to play again, is to take control of the different characters during the fights, since they all have their own special attacks and skill sets.
- combat is always played in a featureless circular arena, without any chance to use terrain to your advantage, sneak up and backstab, or position yourself advantageously at the start.
- there are a lot of special moves in combat, which might look spectacular, but when the computer-controlled characters perform them, they interrupt your timing, and you need to re-orient yourself afterward. All that visual spectacle also makes it very hard to see what you are doing, if you are actually hitting an opponent or the damage numbers are from another's attack, if spell effects are friendly (and thereby not damaging) or hostile, etc.
- one very serious downside of every mystic arte and boost strike used, is that it resets the battlefield, cancelling all spells that are being cast/sequenced and those still in effect. In the later games stages this makes the strongest spells almost unusable, especially in you have Law in your party.
- the number of distinct regular monsters is limited, perhaps about 20 types of normal ones. The same models get re-used for stronger variants a number of times, getting a few different color accents and a higher level. Occasionally they get an extra skill. Also rare and boss monsters are re-used, but less so. Per map there are about 4 regular monster types, so you do a lot of similar fights in a row.
- there is so much dialogue that it gets repetitive, and I tend to start clicking through them when the characters for the umptieth time display their few character traits, or rehash all that they don't yet know.
- there are a number of side quests (for defeating unique boss-monsters) that are out-of-level when you get them. With the first one that is made fairly clear, but especially with those in the latter stages of the regular story, you have no way of judging if you are ready for an encounter or not; only the moment you are engaging the level of the opponent(s) is displayed, and then you are stuck in the fight, with the option to flee disabled and no way to reload until the whole party is dead.

Game felt drawn out at times but I really enjoyed the characters and the combat is really flashy and satisfying, the story was well paced and never felt like I had to grind a lot to get to the next objective. Law is thicker than a bowl of syrup and I would not have it any other way.

This is hands down one of the best Tales game I have ever had the pleasure of playing, it has renewed my faith in the series and has quickly become my personal GOTY for 2021.
Pros:
+ Alphen and Shionne really shine as dual protagonist, their growth will keep you emotionally invested
+ Incredible visuals, runs smooth even on my potato PC
+ Fun gameplay, combat system, skills and crafting
+ Great mix of supporting characters
+ Engaging story that culminates to a satisfying ending
+ Music is good although not great, loved the ending theme alot
+ No Denuvo, never experienced any bugs or glitches so good port
Cons:
- Paid DLCs, I have no issues with levels and cosmetics dlcs but please don't insult us with locked skills that's not cool.
So is this a masterpiece? it certainly comes really close for me, when I look back at all the great Tales games this will definitely be among them.
Definitely highly recommended 9.5/10, would be a solid 10 if not for the DLCs

Although I do want to mention a few points that could've made the game a lot better:
- Behavior of the A.I. is now very limited. You can't customize A.I. behavior for each character
- Although graphics are really good, the default LOD is so low that textures and objects appear to 'pop in' at a short distance. This causes visual degradation and it's very noticeable when moving around. An LOD setting option would've fixed this
- Skill systems are now very simplified, previous games had equipment skills that you needed to grind which was fun actually
- Aggro doesn't work properly
- A lot of chest (probably about 1/3 chest of the game) gives you level 1 accessory reward which are totally useless as you can easily craft higher level accessory
It felt a little shorter than previous games, but it was really fun nonetheless. I highly recommend this game to any JRPG fans! A lot of people were unhappy with the paid DLCs but honestly you can just forget the whole thing exist and still fully enjoy the game.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------
Minor spoiler: Strategy tips if you’re struggling against any bosses (see this if you're at least in mid-game)
I'll be honest, the boss fights were so hard for me in the early-mid parts of the game that I ran out of items and money and barely won them. Later I accidentally discovered a simple strategy that made boss fights a lot easier. It's not ideal and it's kinda boring, but I was able to beat all the strongest bosses in the game with 20 levels below them. I call it 'Shionne's Air Buster', it uses her arte called 'Tres Ventos'. Just jump and spam the arte from a distance, it fires 3 shots and it's homing too. Get mid-air damage skills, use arte users, keep A.I. at a distance and get all wind damage on your accessory and you should be gold.
