Tales from the Borderlands

it's got everything
* awesome story
* perfect choice of music
* awesome and famous voice actors
* the unique borderlands graphics
* hilarious characters
* much humour
* drama
* romance (a little)
* guns
* vehicles
* money
* many choices
* many of them with actual consequences
* action
* tears of laughter and of ...
* it's totally worth to replay
* Handsome Jack
... and all of it in the perfect dosage. People often feel kind of empty and lost, when they finished the game, and i totally understand that.
The very best telltale game on the market and one of the best games out there in my opinion.
What are you waiting for? Get it.

???? Tales from the Borderlands ????
Update 17.01.2021
Gameplay/Handlung

+Gute Story
+Humor
+Altbekannte Charaktere
+Serientypischer Grafikstil
-(zu) einfach gestriktes Gameplay

TL;DR
A decent story if you can overlook Telltale's usual shortcomings. If you want a well-written (for the most part) Borderlands movie I'd absolutely recommend it, but don't expect your choices to matter beyond superficial details.
Also they kinda screwed over this game in Borderlands 3, yeesh.
Gameplay
If you know Telltale games, you know what to expect. You got what's essentially a movie with QTEs thrown in and the occasional dialogue choice that changes a scene slightly. There are a few bells and whistles thrown in, but don't expect more than that.
Visuals & Audio
Once again, the typical jank of Telltale games comes through between somewhat stilted animations and barebones visuals. The Borderlands art style thankfully alleviates some of the most obvious jank but it's not an amazing technical feat. The game fares better in the music department, between the tracks written for the game and the licensed music, especially during intros, doing a pretty good job setting up the scene.
Story
And now for the meat of the game, there's actually not that much I can say here without going into spoiler territory. You primarily control Rhys and Fiona between scenes, and explore their meetup story and subsequent adventures through five episodes that thankfully we don't have to wait for years between anymore. The characters and story are fitting to existing Borderlands lore and, as long as you've played Borderlands 2, you won't feel like you're missing too much context. Writing overall is solid, although the third episode felt uncharacteristically serious and the fourth one had an incredibly stupid and contrived scene involving a certain character that left a bad taste in my mouth. Thankfully the final episode recovered from that and left it on a satisfying ending.
Completion
There's uhh not much there. All achievements are earned through progression and the game has maybe…three or four choices that change up some of the scenes in a slightly bigger way (of course in the long run those choices all loop back to the same outcome) so there's not a huge amount you can get out of replaying it.

A great Borderlands game and a better TellTale game.
TellTales' Borderlands-inspired visuals look great, with some of the purple and green space environments sticking out as particularly appealing. The writing and dialogue are top-notch making it easy to both engage with the deep story they wanted to tell and laugh at the injections of ridiculous Borderlands humor, but the story is pretty reliant on the player having background knowledge of Borderlands 1, 2 & The Pre-Sequel.

Wolf Among Us is full of mystery and dangerous detectivity
Game of Thrones is full of shocking moments and regrettable choices that make you think if you did something wrong or too wrong
Then Tales From The Borderlands is full of laughs and good time, with fun gameplay where you do not regret every second your choices and have a joy while playing it.

The good:
- well-written, hilarious script
- interesting story and characters
- great soundtrack
- excellent voice-acting
Not so good:
- had a couple of bugs that had me replaying some sections - it was particularly annoying since you can't skip any dialogue so I had to watch two scenes over and over and over
You don't need to have played any of the other Borderlands games to enjoy Tales from the Borderlands. Sure, you know more about the world and background of the franchise but this story is mostly self-contained and you will be able to follow and enjoy it as a standalone.

So, you want to hear a story, eh?
The Tales from the Borderlands, a Telltale Series game, is a story-driven, dialogue-heavy instalment to the Borderlands franchise. It plays a significant role in the Borderlands universe; events occurring after BL2 and before BL3, something the lovers of the franchise certainly won't want to miss out on.
This is a conclusive story between the relationship of Hyperion and Pandora, you play as various characters on a mission, which turns and twists in all manner of directions, always keeping you on the edge of the seat, engaged and captivated; true Telltale Games fashion.
While the classic Borderlands shoot and loot approach isn't present, this game allows you to enjoy the raw setting of the Borderlands at its purest, with the same calibre of humour, sorrow and horror we grew to love with the franchise. During the game, you encounter new loveable and valuable characters in the Borderlands universe (Rhys and Vaughn being my favourite!); and the old ones, who are kenned and loved by many,
such Zer0, Athena, Jack
and much more. You'll also recognise a grim cameo from characters,
such as Commandant Steele
.
Telltale Games are known for unforgettable stories and adventures, and this game certainly lives up to that expectation.

If you’re a fan of Borderlands’ style of writing and don’t hate the standard Telltale game mechanics you’re almost guaranteed to have a blast with this game as it positively nails the humour and wit that the rest of the franchise is known for.
Introducing a new cast of characters, Tales from the Borderlands puts you in the shoes of it’s everyday denizens with dreams of grandeur and serves as a direct sequel to Borderlands 2 following the power vacuum that Handsome Jack’s death left behind. It encapsulates a side of the world that the vault hunters never get to see and despite all it’s zaniness, it still manages to feel somewhat grounded in an insanely violent world. Well, as grounded as it can be with the two protagonists' frequent habit of embellishing the details of their journey.
The main characters are incredibly charming and the supporting cast is just as memorable. Some familiar faces from the Borderlands franchise return here and for fans of the series this adds further depth to these characters and acts as a great addition to their stories but newcomers won’t feel lost either as they blend in seamlessly with the plot and the unique chemistry they bring to the table is well earned over the course of the game. The relationships you build with these characters feel truly special and that is thanks both to the excellent writing and stellar voice acting from the cast.
The visuals are great and consistent with the franchise’s style with some really interesting character designs for its main cast. From the flora in the wastelands to the corporate style of Hyperion, everything’s a delight to look at.
The game plays like any other Telltale game and is welcoming to all kinds of players. The interpersonal relationships of the main duo are at the heart of the story and change how characters will interact with each other both in the present and past leading to some truly funny, tense and heartwarming scenes! In my opinion it has excellent replay value as the writing is so good I wanted to see every line of dialogue it had to offer.
If you want the full Borderlands experience, this is a game you have to play as it changes the world in such an interesting way.
10/10 Would look at mushrooms again.

Funny tale this is
I love TellTale games. Walking Dead was just awesome and it kicked off a bunch of other games from the same studio which ended up pretty successful. Although they did similar games previously like Jurassic Park which I liked too by the way so check it out some time.
I didn't expect much from this game, I can't say I like Borderlands, i found it shallow and generic, definitely not a fan but honestly this one is probably one of the best games in the whole TellTale narrative games catalog.
The characters are just amazing. You fall in love with them and you love both – the good guys and bad guys. They're done so well that I couldn't stop playing until I finished the game because I wanted to see what will happen next.
The game offers pretty much the same gameplay as other recent TellTale games. A narrative adventure with some choices. There's plenty of crazy moments and the game has a great sense of humor. There's not much to say about gameplay, it's like an interactive movie. But for those who never played any of these games i'll try to explain.
You control the character, walk around, talk with people which is how the story is told. There are qte's too but they are not hard so it's great for casual players. Most of the action, tense moments are played through qte's. What can I say, I love qte's in such games. Other than that you laugh, you laugh a lot while playing this. It's like a good crime-comedy movie set in Borderlands universe.
Graphics could be a little disappointing like with any other TellTale game. Animations are stiff, facial animations are average at best. This has always been the Achilles heel of these games. But character models look nice, it has has cell-shaded graphics which ages well so these games look decent event years later.
Sound is really good, I loved the voice acting which made the humor more funny. Music maybe isn't something to remember but it isn't bad either.
If you enjoy narrative games this is a must play. Even if you don't care about Borderlands it's a great game with charming and funny characters, crazy story and action scenes.
Pros
- Good story
- Great humor
- Lovable characters
- Good voice acting
Cons
- Animations are bad

I had a lot of fun with it, I enjoyed the plot-twists, the betrayals, the what-seemed like betrayals and pretty much learning back stories to some characters and their view on things to let stuff make more sense and heck even make me feel bad for some choices.
Not super fond of the ending but it is the adventure that matters and I super enjoyed it while having some laughs and finding some new favourites amongst the series.

Here comes the classic pros and cons list that everyone makes:
Pros
+ The borderlands/Telltale combination makes for an excellent story.
+ Great graphics which is true to the borderlands franchise
+ Good mix of quick-time events and dialogue options to keep it fresh and exciting
+ A lot of comedic moments which borderlands is well known for
Cons
-Replayability isn't that high, I played it through twice and felt I couldn't gain anything more from it after that.
I'll give it a solid 8/10 because it was such an awesome game to play, but you can't rack up hundreds of hours in it. It's usually a one and done deal for most players.

First Rundown
While I’m not exactly a fan of the main franchise, I do love Tales from the Borderlands. Why? Mostly because it is the best thing Telltale has ever done. It's not only hilarious, but it’s also refreshingly great and brilliant. It’s ten-plus hours of engaging story with a boatload of love and laughs. At its core, it's perfectly Borderlands, and Telltale's loyalty to the franchise remains consistently clear. In practice, is a classic narrative adventure, and definitely one of the funniest games I've ever played.

In Deep
Story
◼️ Writing
A bizarre but amusing adventure across planet Pandora, a rollercoaster of totally hilarious and nonsensical situations. Tales from the Borderlands is brilliant proof that professional fan fiction can be a beautiful thing. The plot is a canon addition and liberally integrates characters and bits of lore from throughout the franchise's history. The protagonists hunt Psychos and run from skags while searching for a Vault containing riches beyond the dreams of avarice. Naturally, complications arise, and the heroes find themselves getting involved with gang warfare, long-dead corporations, betrayal, revenge, and some uncensored baton use. The writing remains whip-smart throughout the entirety of its five episodes. Rarely did I go more than a few minutes without laughing. Whether it was a hilarious character intro freeze-frame, a great line read by its incredible cast, or one of its inspired musical opening credits sequences, Tales from the Borderlands retains its wit and charm throughout.
◼️ Characters and dialogues
Both Rhys and Fiona are telling their side of a tale and, as a result, provide different (and sometimes conflicting) details about what happened. The perspective can change, and by exaggerating here and embellishing there, they always end up looking clever, heroic, and daring. You get the opportunity to control both of them, offering your own take on the characters. Dialogue moves at a fast pace and retains the same dark humour that defines the series. Sometimes jokes are a little cringy, but the wit is there, along with several well-placed gems. The supporting cast is just as well-rounded with its ragtag gang of thieves, assassins, con-artists, mercenaries, and Vault Hunters all appealing with their peculiar mix of plucky charm and alarming instincts for violence. The supporting cast, especially Loaderbot, Vasquez, and Sasha, are equally memorable and round out the action with delightful dialogue and antics. The relationships that you build with them over the course of five episodes make these characters and everyone else even more special.
Familiar characters like Athena, Zer0, Scooter, and of course Handsome Jack show up in roles perfectly carved out just for them. Fans might get more out of those cameos just by their nature, but there's still plenty here for non-fans to enjoy. They're also full of surprises, adding further depth to the archetypes they first appear to be. Under the stress of hunting and being hunted, they slowly crack; they are interesting, well-rounded characters, and following their emotional state is one of the series’ high points.
Gameplay
◼️ How it plays and nice features
Telltale's games are all similar. Before the software house’s fall, they were specialised on licensed properties from comics, television and other media. In them, you explore static environments by interacting with various objects. You move the story forward by talking to other characters and by making choices in both dialogues and action sequences. As per usual, most of the gameplay is about making quick decisions and reacting to on-screen prompts. Telltale games are often likened to “choose your own adventure games”, but it’s not really the final outcome you’re touching with all the action scenes and timed dialogue choices. Instead, your decisions alter details and let you define the context of the characters’ actions. You manipulate around their values, adjusting how they perceive the story.
◼️ Overall difficulty
The action isn’t challenging. Decision-making and strategy aren't important, some of the less sensible options actually lead to better and funnier dialogue and outputs.
https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=2424821693
Visuals
◼️ Art Design
Combined with Gearbox's inspired art direction, Tales from the Borderlands is remarkably rooted in the franchise. Nevertheless, Telltale Games was allowed to take some pretty big liberties with its characters and world-building. Their Pandora is beautifully realized. The celshaded graphics work perfectly, and although it may look like a cartoon, it's most definitely not designed for kids. Blood, explosions, gore and mutilations are daily routine in the borderlands.
Audio
◼️ Music and effects
Telltale’s main composer Jared Emerson-Johnson, who scored both The Walking Dead and The Wolf Among Us, has created tracks that make one think of bloody chases across Pandora's sandy surface, and the violent clang of bullets, and machetes on steel. A cool collection of rock melodies that are intermixed greatly with background ambience, and dubstep sound effects.
◼️ Voice acting
The use of speech is extensive. The actors’ performance as the main and side characters are incredible, standout performances.
Extra
◼️ Replayability
Not so high, it’s the most straightforward Telltale game; some minor things can change but most of the plot will remain the same.
◼️ Game length
There are five episodes, each around 90 minutes long.
◼️ Achievements
All can be unlocked in a single run.
Bugs and Issues
◼️ The ending is focused more on setting up another season than providing closure...and we will never see a sequel.

JUDGEMENT
Zitat:
Telltale proved to be masters in cinematic storytelling with Tales from the Borderlands because it is much, much better than it seemingly has any right to be. What at first may resemble a licensed cash-in for a popular shooter has turned into their finest work. The quality of craftsmanship throughout this first and last episode rarely falters, from the slick graphics to the top-notch music. It's a fantastic adventure with a great cast of characters that showed us that Telltale could tell genuinely great stories.

My other gripe is the inability to skip cutscenes. There have been a few instances where I closed out of the game after hitting a save point, but when I load back into the game, it starts me out in a much earlier part of the story, so I have to replay each cutscene and dialog piece which can be a bit time-consuming and a minor annoyance if you want to replay a choice.
So, if those things make you not want to play a game, then I suppose it's not worth your time. If, however, you can put those things aside, this game is incredible. The story is wonderful, and told in a fantastic way. The voice acting is top notch, with an all-star cast, and the animation team did a great job. The graphics follow the other Borderlands titles, which is great, because the cell-shading is a bit timeless. The dialog is wonderful, it will have you laughing, crying, and wanting more.
I thoroughly enjoyed the game from start to finish, gripes aside, I would wholeheartedly recommend this to anyone who is a fan of the series. If you can get your hands on it, or if you already own it but have never played it, I definitely suggest giving it a go.

Just a warning, this is a telltale game, remmeebr, it's focused on story, not on shooting like the proper borderlands. I'm sure you'll have a blast with this game like I did!!!

I've been aware of the Borderlands series for years but never got too into them, never reached the level cap, but I was still very drawn to the series. I bought this when the episodes were still coming out and I loved it so much, it made me want to play the rest of the games.
After playing Borderlands 1, 2, 3 and Pre-sequel. Tales from the Borderlands, no doubt, still has the best writing, humor, even the vibes of Tales is better than the other games.
This is Telltale's best game. It takes about 12 hours to beat the game and as of this post, I have played it Four times.

First of all, it must be said that the game consists in PARTICIPATING in the telling of the whole story. You have to make choices, some of them are heavy, there are quick time events and other things that TellTale had already shown us. But the real point of the game is its story, which I really enjoyed, I really, REALLY, liked it! Like the one of the Claptastic Voyage. I love how it fits into the Borderlands universe, and honestly, I don't consider it a spin-off (sorry, I initially thought it was).
I hope this game will be back for purchase, as it's a must have for those who really like Borderlands.

The story is great, the characters were amazing and totally witty! Every choice you make, there's always a part that will make you laugh. The graphics is even unique since we can distinguish that it's definitely a Telltales game, and their choice of music for the opening in every episode will give more thrill to continue playing especially on episode 01, episode 02 and episode 03.
Great casting of voice actors as well! This is also like the best telltale game for Troy Baker, Laura Bailey and Nolan North to appear at.
AND SERIOUSLY! WE NEED SEASON 2 FOR THIS GAME!!

This game is very underrated. I've never played Borderlands in my life, however I really enjoyed this game and liked the plot twists it offered me. Not a lot of game-changing choices. A good game overall.

With that being said, I also was not expecting that, during my quest to play all of the Borderlands games this year, I would find a game in this series that tugs at my heartstrings like this one did. Of course, it’s loaded with humor and ridiculousness like any good Borderlands title should be. And of course, “Borderlands 2” made it clear that this series has the capacity to deliver emotional blows when it wants to. But “Tales from the Borderlands” pulls out all the stops and crashes through emotional barriers like a drunken psycho in an Out Runner.
Since starting this series, I’ve been intrigued by the story – but the first two games fell short of being fulfilling. While there were gold nuggets in “Borderlands” and “Borderlands 2” had a wealth of great moments when it came to its story, I was hungry for more. I’m happy to say that this game is a whole hoard of strong story moments and was immensely satisfying.
In fact, my biggest complaint about the story of “Borderlands 2” was that I didn’t get to learn as much about Handsome Jack as I would have liked to. Since Jack is a major character in this one, I got to see just how much of a monster he really is. I got to learn more about Hyperion, Atlas, and Dahl… stuff I didn’t know I wanted to learn about but I’m happy that I got to. On top of all of that, I didn’t expect a Borderlands game to have loveable main characters, but this one has those, too.
This game blew my expectations into smithereens and I’d 100% recommend buying this game… but that will be difficult since it has been pulled from the Steam store. (I'm sure you could find it for a console or whatever if you really want to do that.) However, if it’s been collecting dust in your backlog, I recommend giving it a playthrough.

Cracking story, characters and pace kept me entertained the whole way through.
I could never be bothered to play either of the first two borderlands past the awesome intro cut scenes at the start.
But Tales from the Borderlands is an excellent stand alone game where I did not feel that I was missing required knowledge from not playing the games they are based on.
One of the few games I've come back to a few years later to replay it all again :)

- Skipped episode one credits.
- TellTale Games will remember that.
Borderlands is easily one of the best co-op shooters of all time! I don't know why I waited so long to play it. I really love the Borderlands lore! I can't stress how much I adore Handsome Jack as a villain. Oh my gawsh. Just bring him back in every Borderlands game pwease UwU. Jack has so much character. He's got a jerky attitude that's smothered in charisma and narcissism. I just love it so much yet I hate him. HE'S JUST SO GOOD AT BEING BAD.
Tales from the Borderlands has got to be one of the best Telltale games of all time. It captures the Borderlands vibe extremely well. The story is set after Borderlands 2 and expands what happens after Handsome Jack dies. It's got an interesting plot from beginning to end, it's never predictable and has beautiful music to back it all up. The characters are funny and very well written. Even though it has a rushed ending, it's still an awesome and engaging experience! The action sequences are stylish. AND YEA. Butt stallion's back BB!

Pew Pew.
Also, You MUST have at least played BL/BL2 prior to understand this game since they make a lot of references to them. Otherwise, the plot won't make much sense to you.
CATCH A RIIIIIIIIIIDE!!!
100/10

I was worried how well a gearbox property could fit into a telltale format. I COULDN'T HAVE BEEN MORE WRONG.
This game made me laugh like no other before and every decision felt agonisingly difficult to make.
10/10 I want a sequel soooooo bad.

An action packed adventure, thoughtful narration, humor mixed well written story with interesting characters true to the Borderlands universe. Cool plot twists and overall a rollercoaster of emotions.
After finishing you keep wanting more and how they ended indicates sequel but sadly by the time I'm writing this Telltale Games is no more and the newly formed studio hasn't retained licenses for this title but hey you never know.
By the way I loved what they did with title sequences in each episode, really fantastic job.
They pulled the game from Steam for obvious reasons but I highly recommend grabbing a copy from somewhere if you can or maybe one day it will be available again for sale here.

This game changed my life. I'm not one to leave sappy reviews but this one is near and dear to my heart. And with what happened to Telltale and it not being purchasable on steam anymore (PLEASE COME BACK), I felt compelled.
This was my introduction to the Borderlands franchise AND to Telltale games. While it's def got it's flaws, Tales from the Borderlands is a story driven whirlwind that's worth playing at least once. The humor and the story are all unforgettable, but what locked me in were the characters. The well written character arcs and how they interact with each other are an absolute joy to experience (obviously your choices as the player are the main dictator but still even then I'll die on this hill).
While my knowledge of the franchise was little to none going in, I still had an absolute blast every step of the way. It made replaying it after playing BL1, BL2, and the Pre-Sequel all the more enjoyable now that I was able to understand all the nuances that I merely glossed over before.
I still find myself coming back to this game (and forcing my friends to play it tbh). It just holds a lot a great experiences and memories for me.
Thank you Telltale for changing my life, the work all yall put into this really shows <3
tl;dr: It's all about the found family trope babyyyyyyy
