Start your PC…look around…use keyboard
https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=2103072618
https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=2105338153
Be guilty – Schlussgedanken
Alles top also?

Great soundtrack and direction, feels very lush for what ultimately amounts to 2-3 hours of actual play. I agree with some other reviewers that the lack of a [Skip Dialogue] option is a bit frustrating, but that said I can't blame the devs for wanting to make sure the story was told.
If this had another story set or even some DLC I'd recommend full price, but I'd say as it stands get this on sale. Worth at least 5$.

Has 4 chapters roughly 30-45 minutes each that can be easily finished in one sitting.
Gameplay consists of text adventure peppered with some point and click puzzles and light walking sim portions, all really well done.
Got it for dirt cheap and loved it! Recommended!

The story telling made me think to Twilight Zone, supernatural added with Hitchcockian suspense. No jumpscare, but all about atmosphere and story. That was very enjoyable and the puzzles were interesting. Sadly, the last text adventure is very rigid and I couldn't find the exact sentense by myself, even I knew exactly the action to do. My feeling of 100 % polished game vanished when it forced me to check a walkthrough.
And, for a story driven game, I strongly feel the conclusion isn't at the quality level of the rest of the game. Pity for the anti-climax cause by final gameplay and basic ending. I still recommand clearly the game for its originality and atmosphere.

Manages to take a nostalgic setting and a genre, creating something clever and creative with a rather simple story presented in maybe the best way possible for the kind of narrative it tries and succeeds to pull off while elevating the said genre, mashing it up with some other ones in the process, which is something I normally don't like too much but in this game's case the end product justifies it perfectly. Got scared, got thrilled, got confused but never to the point of genuine frustration and most importantly got surprised and impressed.
Maybe not all the parts were flawlessly executed but the minor setbacks don't affect the overall experience. Also it looks pretty decent, runs smooth and has no major bugs. In addition to everything, it also rewards you for exploring but in the form of understanding and making sense of the story -try to look out for every detail you can catch- which was quite enjoyable. Go in as blind as you can and if you are lucky like me, having this fallen off from your radar after it came out and made a scene for itself or perhaps you've never actually heard about it in the first place, savour every moment because the pay off is brilliant.
This was a breath of fresh air for me at the time that I needed it the most. Absolute recommendation.

The game is broken up into 4 episodes.
Episode 1: 10/10 Very chilling, great atmosphere
Episode 2: 8/10 Takes a bit to figure out, but cool payoff
Episode 3: 2/10 The cutscenes are interesting but the actual gameplay is BORING. The microfilm that they want you to read is so near-impossible to see that I ended up just looking up the answers elsewhere.
Episode 4: 6/10 It ties everything back together which is cool, although some of the text commands are a bit unintuitive and I ended up having to look up the answers a few times.

PROS:
+ Great art direction.
+ Great atmosphere with 80s vibe.
+ Good story.
+ Brilliant gameplay.
+ Brilliant implementation of text-adventure (some prefer to call it Interactive Fiction or IF now, i dont care).
NEUTRAL:
~ Story conclusion falls to cliche level. At least presentation of it is good.
9/10
This was a great game all around with brilliant gameplay, neat puzzles, good story, great atmosphere and it was one of those living proofs that computer games are a great tool for storytelling. I especially loved how they re-imagined and implemented a text-adventuring gameplay in such modern and fun fashion.

Excellently thought out game.

Here's what Stories Untold is in the simplest terms: an anthology of four short horror games. Think Dread X, but the games themselves are more involved in the overarching story. If you like Dread X, you will probably like this game. If you dislike the story of
That Dragon, Cancer or Among the Sleep
, then this game's story will probably annoy you.
Gameplay is somewhat varied but doesn't innovate. It starts off with a text adventure, and for the first 80% of the game you'll be solving puzzles. Nothing too extreme. For example, one of them has you using a microfilm machine to read instructions for what to do when a code comes on the screen. Another puzzle has you looking at a manual on a computer to know how to interpret the directions. If you are RTFM-phobic, then it's not for you. The last 20% of the game is walking simulators, you know, it's a psychological horror game, so that's when the shit hits the fan. You can probably imagine how that goes.
Visuals and Audio are par for the course. The microfilm machine actually impressed me the most. Nice attention to detail.
And yeah, that's all I have to say.

If you are going to play Stories Untold, you should just go in blind... no expectations and no knowing the plot ahead of time. It will be irritating and confusing and then, pretty cool with a big emotional impact at the end.
The mechanics include a text based interface (like old time gaming), operating machines with instructions on a monitor, and then sending communications following instructions on hard-to-read microfilm. In between typing scenarios, there are first person exploratory segments.
For achievement hunters, most all are story-based with perhaps a couple that might be missable if you are not fully interacting with objects in the environments.
I recommend the game, on sale, for those who don't mind a real departure from traditional game mechanics and are patient enough to wait for the pieces of this puzzle to fall into place.

The main takeaway that matters is this: Everything but the simplest aspect of the game is great. The text adventures are legitimately unfinished and lazy. Most words don't work. The game doesn't even know how seatbelts work. Like seriously I've never seen text adventures this lazy and badly done.
But everything else is surprisingly great. Even the writing's alright in the text adventures. I just wish the gameplay of the text adventures wasn't this terrible. How they didn't think of programming in synonyms, I don't know. It's just baffling. Everything else is so good and then on the simplest hurdle they just stumble, trip and just fall down the cliff, trying so hard to bring the rest of the effort of the game down with it.
I still recommend it. The game's fun. But I've never seen such a difference in quality as this.

You pull up to the driveway of the family holiday home and park the car.
It’s dark, but it’s as idyllic as you remember from all that time ago. You remember being told to look in the glovebox before going in.
It’s good to be back.
And so your text adventure begins. You play as someone in this game. This is just episode one of four. In front of you is a desk. On this desk is a Futuro 128k computer, some photos, a desk lamp, an alarm clock, a monitor, and a phone. A blinking prompt on the monitor waits for you to respond to the above scenario. What ya’ gonna do? Open the car door? Open the glovebox? Punch the horn? Let’s find out. Type it in. do it.
This game is broken up into 4 individual stories and this is Episode 1: The House Abandon. This is pretty simple. You are sitting at a desk playing a text adventure game. There is little else to it. The story told here is eerie and intriguing. If you aren’t interested in a weird game that tells stories through basic interaction and puzzle solving with mostly static objects.... turn away now. That is what this entire game is. It does vary a bit between chapters however. Solving Morse Code and decoding incoming signals in an arctic bunker and helping with some strange experiment in a closed off science lab are some more things you have to look forward to. Just remember to getoutgetoutgetoutgetout GET OUT t… out… get…
WHAT EXACTLY IS THIS
Stories Untold is an experience more than a game. Each episode plays out like you’re viewing a TV episode of a weird 80’s sci/fi horror show titled the same as the game. Stories Untold. How meta. The entire thing has a neat synthwave style soundtrack that plays in the background. While pretty generic, it does add a bit to the feeling of the very retro style environments you find yourself in. Everywhere you end up in the game has it’s own creepy vibe and story behind it. Hopefully you haven’t read too many reviews that spoil what this game is about. It does tell a compelling story over it’s four chapters.
I really don’t want to go into too much more detail here. This game is short. About 2 ½ - 3 hours worth of gameplay and I had 100% of the achievements. That really isn’t bad though for the .99 cents I paid for this game. I recommend it for just a few bucks. All in all I had a great time and was drawn in from beginning to end.
SUMMARY
Overall Score: 8/10
Why Buy? Neat little story with some eerie and intriguing puzzles and experiences.
Skip if: You want to play a game that feels like a standard video game.
Thanks for reading. Short little review for a short little game. Have a good time and let me know if you found this review helpful at all!
Cheers!

Basically it's just a puzzle game involving 4 suspense type short stories which are all connected. The final story wraps everything up well and you understand what the game is about. However, it's a bit of a chore to get through and I didn't find it that great. Ok graphics, ok sound, good puzzles and an interesting story.
Decent game with a good ending, but I wouldn't recommend it, or play it ever again. About 3-4 hrs playthrough.

Morlan's shorts:
Lil' bit text adventure, lil' bit walking, lil' bit puzzling.. A fairly short atmospheric adventure with obvious 80s vibes. You play for the atmosphere, the mystery (it's hardly horror but thriller? sure) not for the difficulty, of which there's barely any. It's one of those oddities that makes your library that little bit wierder. If you know they type, you know you'll like it.
But the price is overblown.. so.. do the discount drill..
Don't waste more time reading lengthy reviews.. time is of the essence!

Now don't get me wrong, it wasn't the game play. Story driven puzzle games and text based mechanics done well can be fun as hell. And Stories Untold does a good job of that. Its very rare to see text based adventure, especially paying homage commodore style game play. It does so with great efficiency and passion for the genre and is clever considering it was also used to solve key story parts and progress through puzzles
Visually its stunning, and is well polished for a Unity engine based game. When you play a game on an engine like Unity you usually get what you pay for, and that's usually half the cost of this if not less and get something kinda crummy. This is worth a LOT more in game design alone. The use of lighting is fantastic, the environments are very sharp and rendered amazingly.
Its overarching story though, that's where it lags. And with a game like this, a 90% stationary horror game, its story needs to be captivating and immersive, which Stories Untold's overarching story line just wasn't cutting it for me. It lags in spots, and makes little sense in others. It tries to show its meant to make little sense and feel like a bunch of short stories put together. But its not. All the stories culminate into one singular story.
I could tell the twist coming from a mile away, and when it hit I felt dissatisfied that my assumptions were correct. Spoiler alert;
The episodic storytelling was all inside the main character's head as he committed a crime that killed someone close to him. Now police and doctors have been prodding his brain in a hospital to get him to confess.
....This was meant to be a horror game... that's pretty weak as shit, yo! I was expecting more horror in this horror game. And it just doesn't deliver, which sadly drags the gameplay down with it because if the story isn't immersive, the puzzles only feel like a chore. If the puzzles are entertaining, but the reward is a overall boring experience story wise, then just ends up making the gameplay boring with it.
All in all, this being a story driven game, and the story culminating into a massive dud for me, I can't in good faith give this one a thumbs up. Only 2 out of 3 of the key components for a game like this were met, and the part they mucked up just so happened to be the most important for a good horror game to work.
I'd say avoid if you're wanting an especially captivating story, but buy it if you really like number and text based puzzles and gorgeous game design, then by all means 10 bucks may be more than enough to scratch that itch. Otherwise, I'd say get it on sale so the burn feels less stingy.

Stories Untold is a (mostly) text based psychological horror adventure and puzzle game with a length of about 3 hours playtime. You need to be somewhat proficient in the English language to enjoy it, but if you are, it's worth every penny.
Be ready to use your keyboard and NumBlock a lot! There's lots of typing, fiddling around with 80s analogue devices (awesome!) and reading code manuals.
Sounds dry and boring? It's really not. This is a pretty unique game and I can recommend it to practically everyone.

Chapter 3 is arguably the worst one when you're new to the game; the tasks are tedious as you have to switch back-and-forth between a computer terminal and a microfilm reader, the game, however, does not tell you the reader has a zoom/focus sliders that otherwise makes reading some of the text accurately nigh-impossible. I had to use a walkthrough to get through this part until I accidentally discovered this feature in chapter 4 where the sliders are more prominent.
My one twinge of disappointment, which I have tried to remain objective about (but it still bothers me a bit), is that the game intentionally invokes the other-worldliness of Stranger Things (the Netflix show) from its title font to its retro 80s aesthetic. My initial impression is that this would be something akin to Stranger Things meets Dark Mirror. However by chapter 4 it's apparent that these chapters are an interconnected story regarding a rather banal mystery that I will avoid talking about because of spoilers.
All the other-worldliness and mystery is really window-dressing and the story itself is rather bland.
The game can literally be beaten in 2 hours give or take, a little more if you want to 100 percent it with full achievements. I received this game as part of a bundle so I didn't pay full price for it nor would I value-wise.
If you're genuinely curious about the game play the first chapter which is free to try as a demo but understand that much of what makes it great is greatly diminished in later chapters. If you can pick it up on sale or in a bundle go for it. It's definitely worth a playthrough.
edit: a word; slight revision.

Overall, I would recommend this game. There is a tiny bit of horror aspects to it, but it's not very scary overall. The story is definitely one that builds up as you play and definitely very enjoyable.

It does have great visuals, great music and sound effects. But it suffers from incredibly annoying and awful game design. You cannot skip text you have already seen. You can not make the text appear in its whole, you have to wait for it to be written every time. You cannot write your actions until the text of the game is written in its whole on the screen. What happens is that half of the game you are just waiting for the game to write its text story on the screen instead of actually playing the game. This ruins the whole fun one could have from the game in my opinion.

Beautiful pacing. Beautiful atmosphere. Beautiful twist. Beautiful narrative. All of that without a single jumpscare. Absolutely brilliant. Yes, I'm a sucker for some good storytelling
God, it's so good you have no idea. What are you waiting for? Go play if you haven't holy fuck

its a combination of text-based adventure, point&click and walking simulator.
very nice experience with little puzzles and sometimes a kind of creepy atmosphere.
the game is made of 4 episodes, and each episode have around 30-45 minutes of playtime.
At first you think the episodes have no connection, but there's a unexpected plot twist at the end!

I had no idea what I was buying, but I wanted to try it. It plays like a modern text adventure that plays out to give you the frame of the story you slowly piece together an absolutely mind bending adventure. Each chapter gets gradually more complex from the original texting based decision making which requires you to use some thinking power to solve some problems that you face throughout the story.
It's not a terribly long game, about 2 hours from start to finish. But the experience was incredibly unique for that amount of time. It's not really a horror game as the tags suggest, more a thriller than anything.
Very high quality, visually pleasing, interesting story. Definitely worth whatever you pay for it!

and the first story is exactly that.
Then it just does nothing but go downhill from there...
Stories Untold makes one of the dumbest cliches in storytelling.
It was all a dream.
Episode one was not a spooky 4th wall breaking supernatural haunted house story.
Episode two was not a cool schocky sci-fi horror alien possession abduction experiment.
Episode 3 was a not a isolated man vs nature story that gestures towards a worldwide apacolypse
the whole damn game is literally just the dreams of a spoiled jackass who got his drunk driving.
Stories Untold is one convuluted MADD PSA where all the cool shit never actually happened.

The gameplay itself can be a little tedious at times- some of the sequences are creepy and a lot of fun, but a few feel very tedious. Anytime you're actually walking around in 3D space is a little lame- the game is at it's best when you're sitting in front of an old computer messing about.
Luckily, you’re always moving on to something new. There's puzzles to solve but often you're just following the instructions that are laid out for you, along with a little bit of thinking outside the box here and there.
The visuals are good but there’s a lot of jaggies and some small text can be difficult to read.
As of this writing, the game retails for 9.99 and I don’t feel like I got enough entertainment to justify that price, but at a good sale, this is an interesting way to spend a morning.

The ending was not only beautifully bittersweet, but the way everything preceding it was tied together during the game's final moments of brilliant exposition was satisfying and aggravating in equal degree. Even though I finished the entire game in a petite handful of hours, the story stayed with me for weeks after the credits had rolled. A rare achievement.

Experimental storytelling at its finest.
Stories Untold is an experimental horror game developed by No Code. To explain Stories Untold’s story, or how it unfolds would be to spoil it, but the main gist of the game is that you have four different stories, each one making you interact with the game differently than the others. The first episode (which you can play for free with the demo) is a text adventure, where you type commands to explore the narrative. I was expecting each episode to follow a similar formula, but they get increasingly different and the game really goes from strength to strength.
Positives:
- I love the visuals here. It’s got an awesome retro 80s thing going for it, and the developers have done a lot with a little here. For the most part, you’re just sat in front of a workstation, and goodness are they beautiful workstations.
- Each episode delivers its own snippet of a story. There’s enough there for you to have some idea of what’s going on in each story, but there’s what’s left out leaves you asking questions. This is one of the few games that I’ve continued to think about after finishing it.
- All four episodes play out completely differently to one another which makes each one more interesting than the last. It also makes this game incredibly unique, I haven’t had a gaming experience that was close to being similar to this.
- Experiential spoilers:
One of my favorite things about Stories Untold is that it gives the illusion of setting up a jumpscare a few times in the game, but the scare never comes. It’s just used to ramp up tension.
- There are some really creepy moments in the game.
- The audio is excellent throughout. The music and sounds really add to the atmosphere, and I thought that the voice acting was well done and convincing.
- It’s an easy 100% if that’s your sort of thing.
Neutral
- ajor spoilers:
Some players may not (and judging by some other reviews, do not) like how the fourth episode plays out and reveals an overarching plot. Personally, I thought it worked well and was well done, but I also would have been happy if it had been four entirely separate episodes. This one comes down to personal preference, but even if you don’t like the fourth episode it’s still worth playing this for the other three.
Verdict:
Stories Untold is a masterclass in experimental storytelling. Each episode is incredibly well-crafted, and this game offers a wonderfully unique experience. If you enjoy narrative games, or games that offer something that’s a bit different, then you absolutely need to play this.
