It's a fun combat system, but it quickly gets boring. The scaling seems off, I was fighting on 2nd easiest difficulty just to try it out and kept running into fights i could not handle with my current gear and HP/mana levels. Could be a fun game with a bit of tweaking and loads more content.

I highly recommend you wait until the game gets more updates before you get it. Currently it's pretty sparse content-wise and the game-play is HIGHLY repetitive.

Certain build-types are a little lacking, whilst others are basically almost cheaty... taking 60%+ of boss health off in one go.

The devs are actively working on it, and the beta channel gets a decent amount of updates, but give it 6 - 12 months and come back to see if it's gone anywhere.

Despite the early access, there's a lot of content and fun to be had, especially with full parties. Tons of skills and ways to play the game, along with challenging enemies. At times, TOO challenging. Even basic enemies spawn with powerful abilities and on the higher difficulties, they'll throw 15-20 mobs at you in a single combat. Without strong AOE, you're screwed. What this essentially means is that melee builds aren't viable at all early-game.

There's a couple of other minor gripes I have, like the inability to drink potions outside of combat and the lackluster reforging mechanic, but the imbalanced combat is my biggest issue. It needs some serious attention. Hopefully they'll address some of these things before release because overall, it's a great bang for your buck.

Basically feels like a simplified Divinity that purely focuses on combat encounters and gearing up. There's a decent chunk of customization available to vary character builds, especially through different skill trees and mixing them. Combat is fine but does get repetitive as you progress through the game because the enemies lack meaningful differences for the most part. Modifiers to enemies have been added recently but they haven't really affected how my party acts in a fight. I'd like it if enemies had more utility in some form to change up how I approach a fight.

While reaching closer to the current endgame, the combat does feel a little flat due to how repetitive combat gets. Most of the early-mid levels were still pretty fun as I had to figure out what combinations of skills I wanted to use. I still enjoyed it so I'd recommend it especially if you get a group to play it with. It's early access and receives content/balancing updates so I'm going to keep an eye out for future improvements.

Very enjoyable. Diablo like gear and skill trees, For The King looks (and kills), and Slay the Spire choose your dungeon path. Combat is small turn based hex combat, but what really makes it great is the multiplayer combat is simultaneous. You can move and attack without having to wait for your friends to take their actions and it works well for a strategy turn based game. You often do find yourself needing to split up and cover multiple sides in combat and just shouting out to others in times of need. I played with 2 other people each controlling 2 units and combat was nice and fluid, without anyone needing to tell other people how to take their turns.

There are plenty of smaller issues I have but all early access issues so I don't hold it against it (balance, polish, UI scaling, etc.). The only complaint I will note is the lack of camera rotation. Currently you can't rotate the camera around in combat so sometimes hard to see people hiding behind objects, but more of an annoyance than anything.

The current state of development is good enough to play and have fun, solo or with friends. There is plenty of potential for this to be really good though if you'd rather wait for full release (currently unknown date). I also think the $20 price tag is fair. Me and my friends will certainly get our money's worth 50+ hours still having fun.

This game was such a rare gem to find, and perfect for the insane coop game drought that's going on. My group of friends, which ranges from 3-6 people, has a hard time finding anything new to play that's any good. Enter this unknown game, with 120 reviews at time of finding, and has been such a great experience thus far. It's not perfect, but this game was less than a month in to early access upon time of review. Normally i wouldn't bother writing a review, but if it helps get this game to others, then that's great.

This game blends the procedural generation/board generation of For The King, the combat/character building of Divinity: Original Sin, and the central hub/mission system of Diablo, and it all works wonderfully. After making your first character, you can continue on and make any extra amount of characters you desire, and then freely slot those characters in to your party at any time. Each player has their own characters and can swap them in and out of the party at any time. You go through a short tutorial explaining combat, and then you're released to play. There isn't much hand holding/explanation, but that's not a problem as the game play is simple, you can right click to examine any characters and move your mouse over status effects to see what they're doing, and any skills that inflict statuses explain relevant statuses. From there, combat flows as follows: Each character has movement, 1 action point, and free action skills/consumables. Everyone on one side of combat goes, IE your party members, then the other, IE the enemies. It's chaotic, but it adds a layer of uniqueness. Outside of combat while on missions, you go and to shrines/map events for rewards/mission buffs.

Pros:
- The combat works smoothly, and is fun.
- Because of the way attribute points work, multi-class characters are very viable. Might is flat damage/healing increase, so its useful for both warriors and mages. Intelligence boosts mana reserves, but mana is used in warrior and mage abilities, so its relevant. Very well designed.
- You get all tiers of gear from level 1. It doesn't break the game, and feels incredible to have gear that buffs your builds early on rather than super generic pieces of trash gear.
- The art style is clean and consistent.
- Good amount of replayability
- The ability to swap out characters feels great.
- Each skill tree feels like it's unique from the others, and even feels like within itself there's two sub skill trees that have their own identity.
- You can play this alone, or with up to six players. You control however many characters you bring. (IE, if you are playing this with one other person and you bring two of your characters and he bring 4 of his, then you control 2 and he controls 4).
- Stores are per player, and it brings a strange sense of nostalgia coordinating to get everyone good gear for their builds.
- Enemies slowly float off in to the abyss when they die and it makes me giggle

Cons:
- The game outside of combat is buggy. Players rejoining in combat broke the lobby, if the host is lagging then cutscenes can get stuck for everyone other than the host. Games were randomly crashing (not often. between 4 players in a 6 hour play session, we had two crashes).
- Encounter balance feels like it needs some tuning. Fodder fights feel too easy, and boss fight power levels range from easy for melee warrior boss enemies, to dangerous for mage boss enemies in general, melee warriors need to be boosted in lethality, while mages need to be tuned down a bit. This is further reinforced by the amount of healing zones on the world map. They feel useful for folks who can take mana, but typically i find that the party is still good on health.
- Fights feel too quick for buffing zones to feel worth it if they would take multiple turns to get to.
- Mission zones feel a little empty. Adding extra side fights/events to the mission map would really flesh missions out. Maybe even add optional side bosses?
- Summoning needs some sort of scaling.
- At time of writing, this is very early in the early access life cycle. Take that as you will, but for IMO it's a con.

Overall, I'm being critical/nitpicky in the cons because this game is great and a little tuning can make an even greater game. Overall though, even in early access I'd recommend this game. It's very enjoyable, a game that holds up with or without friends. I'm gladly looking forward to any updates the devs put out.If you liked divinity for the combat/character building, then you'll like this game.

Turn-based, tactical, cooperative, role-playing game that supports up to six players.

It works on Proton too. (I used Proton Experimental and the beta branch for the game client, haven't tested multiplayer with non-beta yet. Single player works fine in non-beta so expect multiplayer to work fine as well.)

https://www.protondb.com/app/1330000

So far it seems balanced a bit too easy, but I haven't been too far in the story yet.

Before I jump into the in-depth stuff. We have a video up on YouTube showing gameplay with 5 of us playing. You can check it out here https://youtu.be/TQ85SOsSPao

I was so excited when the developers reached out about this game after I created contact for another great Turn based game called Solasta. I loved Solasta but felt it could be sooo much better with multiplayer. Enter STOLEN REALM.

This game has to rank up there with one of the best multiplayer experiences I've ever had. And I play a ton of co-op games. The best thing about this is you can play with a party of 6! You each create your own character and choose a class. I love having the ability to add up to 5 others.

The graphics are super smooth. Artwork is gorgeous and just all around nice to look at. The gameplay was fantastic because you technically don't need to wait for others to finish their turn (although it's better to plan attacks together). That helps the pacing of the game so much.

There's a ton of depth to it. With skill trees, all sorts of different loot, equipment, and weapons.

The game itself was super smooth. We had no issues playing it at all and we were laughing so hard at the ragdoll.

If you're looking for a great multiplayer co-op game... This is it. This was so much fun and I can't wait to see how this game progresses. I also can't wait to see what the developers do next because I honestly don't have a bad thing to say about this one at all.

Stolen Realm is the type of game I've been looking for for a long time. Essentially it is a Turn-Based, party-based RPG, with ARPG (i.e. Diablo) style random loot, builds that allow you to combine abilities, spells and passives from multiple skill trees, and the option to control a party of 1-6 characters (either controlled by yourself, or co-op).

The one thing that it does not presently have is much of a story (it has an extremely light story - emphasis on extremely light! - to string the quests together, but the game isn't about the story). The game is about killing enemies and building your characters. It is an RPG in the mechanical sense of levelling characters, deciding which stats to increase, picking skills from multiple skill trees (i.e. making character builds), and not an RPG in the sense of role-playing a character or engaging in dialogue with npcs and companions. It is not Pillars of Eternity or Pathfinder Kingmaker, ... and I for one am VERY HAPPY about this. Those are great games too, but sometimes I just want to play a game where I can log in for an hour or two, focus exclusively on fighting enemies, looting, levelling and making character builds, and not having to read walls of text.

I love ARPGs for their story-lite focus on combat, levelling and builds, but I'm less of a fan of their focus on one-character at a time game-play and reliance on twitch-reflexes. I love tactical turned based or RTwP RPGs for their combat, but often don't have the time or energy for the walls of dialogue text that those games very often come with. Stolen Realm is the first game that I've found that has the right balance of turn-based combat, multiple skill trees allowing many different builds, the facility to create and use multiple characters at the same time, and yet a very light approach to story without lots of text, all combined to satisfy my needs (and I can turn back to Pillars of Eternity or Pathfinder when I feel the need for a more narrative-driven game - I do like narrative-heavy RPGs as well when I'm in the mood).

I am a particular fan of Stolen Realm's approach to skills. It is not as complex as Pathfinder Kingmaker of Path of Exile, but it still allows you to mix-and-match skills and passives from multiple classes (currently ranger, rogue, fighter, lightning mage, frost mage, fire mage, shadow mage, light/holy healer - hopefully more to follow), and is more flexible than many RPG games I've played. It is certainly comparable and in some ways similar to the multi-classing in Deadfire, with the potential to be much more flexible due to being able to pick skills from more than 1 skill tree (though like Pathfinder, I think it usually works better when you focus on one skill tree - i.e. class - for your character, and then dip into the other skill trees to complete the build).

So far I haven't played co-op as I'm more of a solo-player (solo in the sense of preferring to play alone rather than with other players, but I still like to control multiple characters - so far I've played alone controlling a party of 4-6 characters), but I've watched a group of 4 players playing together and that also looks like a lot of fun and I might try to get into that later.

In summary, it's a great game by passionate friendly indie developers who are very engaged with their players in Discord. Yes it is still in early access and has some bugs and rough edges (though no crashes for me so far and nothing game-breaking), but it has the foundations to be a masterpiece.

So Diablo and For The King had a baby. I'm going to adopt it and send it to college, that's how much I like this game.

For the devs:
-A combat log is very much needed, sometimes you get clapped and don't know what happened
-some type of clickable animation for presenting loot would really add even more magic sauce to the game
-combat damage numbers should be bigger and last longer on screen
-it would be cool if you could stash items, our group created a mule character that works okay
-a huge THANK YOU for making this game and for co-op, it's extremely fun with friends!
-I will buy multiple copies of whatever you add to this game

Decent turn-based tactical game with fantasy and ARPG elements. The skill trees have some pretty good options for the most part and its nice that you can mix and match to create hybrid classes. Combat is pretty fun; there are control points around each arena which give bonuses for being in their range and when using a larger party, you can get really tactical about where you place your characters. I'd like to see more area control abilities - there are some but not enough. It would be good if characters naturally got to make opportunity attacks against enemies trying to slip past them for example.

Unfortunately, outside of combat, this game hasn't got much going on at this point. There's basically no story so far and I don't have much hope that'll change. Every quest, including main quests follows exactly the same formula - 3 fights with about a half dozen treasure chests and shrines interspersed between. The hub town has basically nothing of interest. An overpriced skill reset person and 3 shops, two of which sell mostly garbage (weapons, armour and trinkets) and the other just sells potions. With some balancing and a bit more content, this game could be great. For now, it's worth a weekend or two but not much more

Stolen Realm is a dungeon-crawling RPG with turn-based strategy and much looting.

The Prologue

After creating your characters and selecting up to four different of them (the difficulty scales with how many characters you choose to take in your party), the game starts. Your home town gets attacked and you need to defend it. After the first battle, a mysterious mage will help you out, making you stronger and testing your skills.
Two more fights await you in which you will see some of what the game will offer later. Strong enemies, very cool skills, and bosses. After that, the mage will kick your a## and you'll be back in town. Now, you are back at your normal level. The first main quest starts.

Battles

They are turn-based and there will be fights with over 10 units involved. First, all of your characters act and after that, enemies will. This goes on till either your party is dead or all of the enemies.
Enemies have just as many different skills as your characters have.
Different maps also have different modifiers attached to them like shrines which give bonuses within a certain radius (like increased damage, armor, etc.).

Character Creation

The character creation is pretty detailed. You can change your class (four in total), then change attributes (like might, dexterity, vitality, etc.), select skills, the name, skin color, gender, hair color, hair type, etc.

Party

Like said above, you can take up to four characters to your party. You can go back to the main menu and change your party at any given time. The highest level character will decide at which point the story goes on. If you select one character who already played 4 main quests and the rest of the team consists of newly created characters, you will immediately start with the fifth main quest. If you choose to bring in completely new characters, the story starts from the very beginning, etc.

RPG

For every battle or quest is done, your characters get EXP. Each time they level up, they will get 5 points to spend freely on their attributes and one skill point to spend on the skill tree. Every character
You can also boost their attributes and stats with items, such as weapons, shields, armor, rings, etc. There is a wide range of items, many with bonuses and penalties in attributes or even giving you new skills. This allows you to make your characters very individual.

Looter

Stolen Realm also is a looter. You will get plenty of items during and after quests. After about 5 quests I already had around 35 items (weapons, shields, armor, etc.) in my inventory. Every item has bonuses or penalities like boosting some stats and reducing others, etc.

Town

In the town, you can buy and sell things as well as reset your points and reforge items. There are three sellers, one for weapons and shields, one for amulets and rings, and one for potions.

Multiplayer

The game is fully playable in multiplayer. I couldn't test this but I imagine this to be very fun. The downside is that it looks like you can't play with strangers and just with friends you have on your friends' list.

The Good

  • Battles feel satisfying. There is so much impact on striking or shooting enemies. It just feels good to do damage, looking at health bars getting reduced or enemies flying around after a death strike. They very well give battles much impact.
  • RPG Elements. It's nice to level characters up, grind for skills, equip different and new items to boost stats, and get better. This is very engaging.
  • It's fully playable in co-op (just with friends through) but this may be the biggest feature for some people.

The Bad

  • The Difficulty. You can change the difficulty for every quest (let's say your party consists of LVL 4 characters, then you can select the quest to be for level 1 up to level 6 characters, giving you more or less EXP as well as making enemies stronger). Playing on the recommended difficulty (the same level as your party) is just too easy. Because of that, much of the strategy in those turn-based battles gets lost. Playing on harder difficulties brings back some more strategy but it can also easily happen that enemies just kill you (especially bosses) because their attributes are just too good and they do too much damage, while you do too little. There is missing a sweet spot and I also think it sucks a bit that the game wants me to experiment with difficulties to find a challenging but not unfair one.
  • Paired with that, it takes too long to level up IMO. As an example: I've played with three level 3 characters a full quest on raised difficulty (level 4). After getting the EXP for four fights in total, including one boss fight, and the bonus EXP for doing this quest, my characters still did not level up.
  • It's repetitive. I know this shouldn't surprise anyone since this is a grindy looter but I'm all for more diversity in quests. I think different mechanics in quests (not just do these 4 battles) could spice things up a bit.
  • The Performance. While I've played an early access version of the game, the performance suffered quite a lot compared to what specs are recommended. I'm way above those and with 8 characters on the map, it already got down to (in parts) 20FPS sometimes.

Neutral

    >
  • The Grind. This shouldn't surprise people but I want to make something clear here. This is a looter. You WILL have to grind a lot between main quests. Sometimes the recommended level raises several levels between two main quests, forcing you to do side quests (which are mostly repetitive). This is fine by a lot of people, but others hate it. I just wanted to point that out.

Conclusion

Stolen Realm is a fun dungeon crawling looter with RPG elements and turn-based battles. Battles are very satisfying because you will feel the impact of every attack. Leveling up your character, looting stuff, equipping the next best thing and spending skill points is just as fun if you're into this stuff. The downside may be the grind. Overall the balance doesn't feel very good when it comes to how fast you level up and the difficulty of battles. I imagine this game to be very fun in co-op.

All in all, Stolen Realm is a fun game if you're into the genre and KNOW what you're buying into. Even though the positives are less in words compared to the negatives, the positives heavily outweigh the negatives when it comes to the importance of said things.

If you're into grindy turn-based strategy games I definitely recommend buying Stolen Realm!

Played a lot during beta. Def has some good potential! Am a big fan of final fantasy tactics, pillars of eternity 2 (turn-based mode) divinity 2: os and other tactical rpgs. The tactical combat is very reminiscent of FF tactics and I like the itemization. Tons of items and bosses. Lots of character customization. Overall quite fun.
