Very porrly made. Models are low-poly mix of their older models, crisis mechanics are trash to play as and an unholly mother of all trash to play against. Espionage is trash, for it can barely help against an opponent (fog of war is pretty cool though, I wish they really did some impcatful spy stuff). Imperium and Custodian mechanics are really good, but I can't just give it a pass because 1/5 components were good. Overall this dlc is one of the saddest of the big ones and requires a lot of additional content to be relevant (which we will obviously get in others dlc... brilliant scheme). 4/10

It's not the best dlc paradox has released. They have acknoweledge that themselfes and announced that the custodian team wants to update it in a free patch in the near future.

The biggest feature of the dlc is the espionage system. All spy systems in strategy games can either be ignored because they have no real impact or are game breakingly overpowered. Does the stellaris spy system break the game? No. Can it be ignored? Kinda. Is it still useful? Kinda. Having a spy creating a network gives you intel on your enemy which grants you more information about how powerful they are and lifts the fog of war. That's defintely useful. The problem is that most operations spys can do are useless.

The other fetures of the dlc are great. Galactic custodian, becoming the crisis are really nice additions to the game. That's why I can recommend the dlc. Buy it on sale and you won't be disappointed owning it.

don't get the hate I loved being able to destroy the galaxy, and more diplomacy options. maybe espionage could use a bit more love as it can be a tat bit annoying sometimes but it sure as hell adds more options as a peace full empire.

I wanted spying since day 1, before any expansions. Years later my wish finally came true, excellent implementation. Only complaint is I wish it was a little stronger, I wish you could have more than 10 favours per species, to really manipulate things greatly. really good though!

At this point it would be more fair if the game had a monthly subscription fee. Again the DLC adds new functionality, in this case intelligence, which is implemented in the base game with the free patch, but you cannot access it without the DLC. Until you buy the DLC you can either roll back to previous version of the game or play with intelligene brutally cut out. You can establish spy network, open the intelligence screen and do absolutely nothing there. Feels like extortion to me.

As much as I enjoy Paradox games this business model is extremely repulsive to me.

I turned this DLC off (which is sad because I am now missing a ship set and some minor mechanics). Makes playing on smaller maps unplayable. Crisis AI empire gets 35K fleets when all the others have 4-10k fleets, Crisis AI wipes the map, if you survive not much to do after that. Terrible DLC, waste of $$$.

I really enjoyed this dlc, A lot of the complaints I don't think are fully justified This adds plenty, it allows you to literally become a crisis level event which is wonderful for long time players who are looking for something new to do. Espionage is...aight. At least the upper levels are. Arm privateers is excellent. All in all I don't see a reason to hate this dlc. Make sure to snag it on sale though since sales happen all the time and theres no reason to pay full price for them.

Espionage? Sucks, but as someone who plays stellaris entirely in a roleplay fashion never playing in iron man, imo Espionage, Custodian, and the Emperor add so much flavour and the crisis is meh to me but still cool, just wish the crisis shipset was actually unique and not just pirate ships.

I usually just like all DLC for this game and price don't really matter to me that much.
- Espionage is something to get used to and it could do a bit better. Its very annoying that when you gathered intel, you manually have to get back to the espionage section, it should just pop-up after a mission is over. Also you don't see much effect of the choises you made.

- Being the Custodian is ok, it can give you a nice galactic defense fleet with a far higher fleet size as your own fleets + some extra powers.

- New ships sets are always welcome, although they are not that special in my opinion.

- I have not done a run yet as becoming the crisis, but its nice to have it as a choice which make the game more dynamic

So in overall some added content which I always welcome, but from all the major DLC's it's the least special.

This 'expansion' adds very little to the game that I enjoy, and I recommend prospective buyers take a few minutes to read this or other recent reviews. Take note: a lot of the negative reviews around release were specifically for a major update released along with this. The update screwed up the pop system of the game in favor of boosting performance late game, so many of the early reviews were *specifically* targeting the update and used this dlc page for their outrage. Take the 40% it is sitting at with that in mind.

-The crisis ascension perk is my main draw to this dlc, without it there would be no reason for me *personally* to really enjoy it. Buffs to subjugation, military, purging: it is what every sociopath who plays this game wanted! The problem is that;
---Most of these bonuses come stock standard with just starting off as a fanatic purifier or certain degrees of militaristic/xenophobe
---The end game doomsday cube is just the equivalent of the Death Star VS Star Killer Base when compared to the colossi from the Apocalypse DLC [blow up a planet vs blow up a system]
---If you happen to grind out enough dark matter to finish the crisis engine [which takes quite a while] you [spoiler]just push a button to get an end screen, no real cutscene, just the end of the game[/spoiler]

-Custodian is basically just a kind of weird middle ground to being a federation leader, but of the galactic community. You can get a [strike]federation fleet[/strike] Galactic Defense Force fleet, you can declare someone a crisis and have everyone declare war on them [that will last decades if you don't do all the work cause wars are still broken in AI vs AI], and you can become the Galactic Empire. Besides the meme of being the emperor it is pretty underwhelming, there is very little you gain that you couldn't just do by being a tyrannical asshole in the base game.

-I *HATE* espionage in almost every strategy games since it usually adds very little to the game and ends up being pretty tedious with the AI annoying you more than anything. Stellaris has done exactly that. While giving envoys more tasks than just writing love/hate mail was a great idea, the tasks are overall underwhelming. Half of them do very little and the other half affect diplomatic relations. Why would I not just have an envoy sit in their embassy and just gain favor over time? Basically no reason. If you want to be sneaky and set up a master plan to make 2 empires hate each other: 1) they already hate each other or 2) have so much trust/bonuses they will never do so. At the end of the day it is another layer to the game that adds so little I barely use it, since most of the time the empire in question will be conquered in short order.

-Nemesis ships are a joke for a selling point, slightly better ships that cost minerals instead of alloys [they are also just assets taken from the pirates, so they are ugly].

I am a huge Stellaris nerd, but this expansion really lets me down quite a bit. I wouldn't recommend this dlc for the $20 they mark it as, heck not even $10 on sale, if you can get it cheaper as part of a bundle it might be worth it but besides that I would hold off on it unless you really like Stellaris or really want that crisis ascension perk. For me it was more trouble than it was worth.

it's ok, not really worth all 20 dollars imo but if u get it on sale then yes
espionage is kind of lacking depth. there are a lot of missions that you can basically ignore because they aren't worth the effort. the become the crisis thing is cool but it's a bit forgettable

I will fully agree, this DLC doesn't do much for singleplayer, with the spy network ordeal. Additionally, it does feel like Paradox was running out of ideas, and it shows at points. These are both completely true points. However, I do feel it adds some neat little pieces of content that I quite enjoy, mostly with the new ways to approach the game. It also has a completely awesome shipset. It's a mix of negative and positive emotions, and that's all I can say about it.

Is it worth $20? ...very debatable. Did I buy it for $20? Yes. Do I regret buying it for $20? Not too often.

Regardless, going to recommend it, as I generally feel all DLC are worth getting at some point. Even with the issues Nemesis came with.

Not worth purchasing outside of a ~80% discount, even for the compulsion of completionism and having the entire set, like I did.

Espionage doesn't work, there are slightly tangible effects that can be brought out of using it and the volume of time invested to get those things is frankly ridiculous. The level of undeveloped it is, it becomes a tack on of the diplomacy screen with no central button or screen for itself. With no automation to speak of making any effect you wish to take place involving constant journeys to the diplomacy screen (hoping you remember who you're building your spy network in ofcourse, otherwise a quick journey to your envoys is needed) to move into the spy network screen to repeat click the same operations over and over, and there's no notifications to inform you that these operations have been completed.

The becoming the crisis is partially fun but more a tack on than a feature with the in-game assets used to pad out the new features being of so low effort that they're stolen from the base game of stellaris back from initial release (remember the pirate ship models? they are your crisis warfleet models now).

This was the most low effort DLC paradox has ever released. The crisis ship set is just pirate ships. They didnt even bother making a new shipset for the crisis. Not worth $20, probably $1 worth of new content here.

Fundamentally I wanna like the Nemesis DLC, but unfortunately I can't.

I just couldn't understand is it so hard to introduce a few new ship outfits for the menacing ships? I'm already a crisis for the whole galaxy for God's sake, an empire that using star-eater to extinguish a star, and I have to degenerate myself and use some cheap plastics like pirates? Same issue on aetherophasic engine, some thing that could uplift my whole civilization into the void that exists in extra-dimension, is looking exactly like a Dyson Sphere?

Oh come on Paradox, this DEFINITELY isn't right, not even close.

The first expansion I truly regret buying, as the new shipset is actually the only new feature I use. Espionage is pointless considering the effort and time needed for its pathetic results. The “become crisis feature” is more of a meme than a full game mechanic that improve and enrich the gameplay. Clearly the Paradox team is out of ideas how expand the game and they scrape the bottom of the barrel for any game mechanic they are able to implement, hype up and sell.

Now let me clarify Im actually content with my purchase. Since I play with AI mods being the Crisis is a fun and challenging experience. The reason im not happy is because of the espionage. It is WORTHLESS. This expansion was an amazing idea poorly executed. The system is a hollow imitation of what it could have been. Spending 20 dollars to be the crisis which I could do anyway as a genocidal empire is just a bad idea.

I enjoyed this DLC. IT's crazy the amount of bad reviews. I bit overpriced, maybe. I bought it for full price and still think it's worthwhile. It gives you more expanded espionage mechanics. Very much needed if you wan to go heavily into it. It also gives you a neat ascension perk to declare you the crises. Be warned. Picking it up to early can run you into the danger of being declared a threat. But the bonuses are cool. Also, a new way to win the game, which I hope they do more of. It also gives you the ability to be a custodian. Which is really cool if you want to be the good guy. Or declare yourself the galactic emperor which just gives you another win.

What it does offer is mostly fun. Espionage is pretty pointless, and demands too much attention to be any fun. Initial contact is kind of the same as Espionage, but more flavorful. Becoming the Crisis would be cooler if it didn't simply re-use the marauder ship set (they didn't even take the time to make a unique ship set!) There are no new origins with this DLC, 1 new mega structure tied to the galactic crisis, and no knew species. They did include a Imperial ship set which looks pretty nice.

I recommend buying any of the other 20$ DLCs over Nemesis. Too little to justify full price in Nemesis.

Its ok. Spying could have more sub events that could be harmful or better based on current affairs in your empire such as high instability, lack of x good, ect. For example the only event at the moment that feels like that exist is 83% or 16% of this. Also making spies their own thing rather then needing envoys for a fed, gc, spying, harming relations, boosting relations, ect.

I find the negative reviews to this DLC to be overblown. I found the DLC very enjoyable with the context of the free update they provided that changed first sightings of xenos and more. Espionage isnt as bad as people make it out to be, although it could be... Faster? It feels almost as if its not worth wasting time on for the amount of effort it takes. There are several interesting events and anomalies accompanying this DLC too, I would, however, say it should've been sold for $10, not $20.
