at this point it is worth buying, but definitely play the demo first
current research system is pretty annoying though

The pricing might be a little steep and a couple mildly unintuitive mechanics, but it's an overall fun game with good, enjoyable balancing and lots of flexibility to play the way you want to play.

I wish steam would allow a Neutral review because its a fun time sink but the AI/pathfinding is considerably worse than it was a year ago during my demo.

Crew member: 'I'm going to fight this invader right in front of me by backing away out of the room and circling the outside of this ship's circumference to come up behind him. But I need you to manually walk me through the door back in because I will see it as locked even though its wide open.'

10 minutes after the fight though, a micro meteoroid shower specifically took out, as in it looked like an assassination, all 12 crew in 4 perfect hits. Which is more funny than aggravating.

I played the demo of this game before buying (Props for having a demo) and I got hooked immediately, It's pretty similar to RimWorld so if you like that, you'll probably like this too, I do have some gripes with the game though, a few smalls ones and 1 big one

The big one being that the games pacing is a pretty slow, I've spent a decent amount of my playtime on max speed just waiting for time-gated stuff, like research and expeditions but mainly research since it costs energy to make the needed materials for unlocking research (Datoids) but I can't mass produce Datoids because I don't have good enough energy production for them plus everything else on my ship (That I've been energy optimizing the hell out of) and I can't get better energy production because researching is so slow, Getting crafting materials for lower tier energy production also takes a lot of time so I can't just scale up low tier stuff easily either so I'm stuck just waiting for that one bit of progress that finally lets me do stuff

The AI can also be a bit stupid at times, it *usually* resolves itself but sometimes I do have to step in and stop a colonist from standing in -500 degree temperatures and 0 oxygen with out a spacesuit

Otherwise, Stardeus is pretty good so far, updates seem pretty frequent so hopefully any problems that game has will be sorted out quickly

Just bought this game and put 13 hours into it. Love the concept and it's been disappointing to watch my excitement ebb away while I sit there on max speed and wait.

I had some grand designs to play multiple different games with different starting ships and explore different planets. But after 13 hours of solid gameplay across two days and large amounts of that on speed 3 my ship has only been active for 150 days. What is apparently the new tech system is unfortunately plagued by the game's biggest weakness - a deep slowness that pervades everything. Each individual item takes a colonist minutes to create at max game speed. Many research quests require a dozen or more tech items to create which can result in an hour or more of waiting. Which might be fine if there were other things to do in the meantime. Unfortunately this IS the whole game.

What started off as a really cool concept of salvaging the ship and being active for a few hours as basic life support is re-established unfortunately breaks down in the early mid-game (late early-game?) when you need to trundle across the solar system devoting hours to sending mining teams and watching tiny snail-paced progress bars inch their way forwards.

Ultimately I don't think I'm going to go back to the game. The moment I walked away at max speed to make a cuppa and watched a youtube video and forgot about the game only to come back to nothing material further progressed was when I decided that my time is worth more than the limited and drip-fed fun this game offers. Biggest disappointment of wasted potential of 2023.

EDIT: Restarting with modified game settings has made this partly bearable. Game balance is terrible for pacing with new drones too far down the tech tree, many many hours of gaming typically. But modifying the start with additional drones alleviates this issue somewhat. Other issues such as new colonists waking every 40+ days can be mitigated by starting with additional colonists. Not my favourite way of going about it but this does somewhat offset the other really bad design choices. Still don't recommend the current game but they gain points for permitting player customisation.

If you can write in a review that "hello my baby, hello my honey, hello my ragtime gal" happened IN the game, it leaves you no choice but to suggest it.

If you know, you know.

Just buy the game. For real. Just do it. Dev does videos on YouTube teaching you how to mod and he does it while he works on the game, openly, with his process on full display. Support this behavior, folks. Pay up.

Rimworld meets FTL with a bit of Space Engineers. Your ship is your base and it is mobile so you travel around mining, trading, fighting and developing your ship and crew.

It's very playable in its current state, apart from the odd small visual but I haven't experienced any frustrations with the game so far.

Highly recommend this if you like the aforementioned games

Building a spaceship is fun and rewarding, but not easy - juggling power, life support, the ship's computer needs, unlocking research in the right order and dealing with disasters like breach attacks, mutiny, space diarrhea and exploding power generators.

I started with the Wrecked Spaceship scenario - it was a huge shipwreck and putting humpty dumpty together again was pretty tough when you're just trying to understand how the game works. I tried the Leaving Earth scenario next and found that a much better introduction as you start with a small ship and build up from there. I've been visiting planets and moons to gather resources from expeditions, I've been trading with space merchants and now I'm working on getting fusion drive so I can travel much further. I like having big goals and small goals to work towards.

The colonists don't seem to have much personality - they're either very happy everything is going well or very unhappy when they haven't had enough coffee! Maybe that's something that will be improved later but the game so far is great and the developer is actively responding to issues and suggestions so I'm excited and optimistic for the future of the game.

most of this game is waiting around for stuff to finish (mining and smelting being the absolute worst contenders jfc) and there's no gameplay settings to adjust it, rapidly turning it into a tedious slog of alt tabbing at max gameplay speed
