Spelunky ist ein super schweres aber auch sehr spaßiges Spiel! Das Spiel bietet mit seinen verschiedenen Fallen, Gegenständen und Gegnern sehr viel Spieltiefe, da alles irgendwie miteinander interagiert und es so oft zu sehr lustigen und spannenden Kettenreaktionen kommt. Ich kann Spelunky auf jeden Fall empfehlen!

This damn game. I love it and hate it abysmally at the same time.
This is only a small part of the feelings you will experience with this game,
if you try to master all the achievements.

My wife left me after I played this game. I've been in a deep depression ever since that one night. I still remember it vividly, I was in 4-1 and was ready to kill Anubis when my bitch of a wife knocked down the door to throw a bucket of water into my PC. It soon broke down, just like my wife that night. This happened 7 years ago, I was just released into parole after a lengthy jail sentence. I still think my actions were justified and I'm about to go play some more spelunky. Wish me luck.

Spelunky is as hard as it is good. Even with as little things that this games has to offer (in contrast to other roguelikes like Isaac) it still gives a brand new story to be told each time. The levels don't seem artificial at all and the controls are tight. Really fun to play.

It's so much fun to discover all the secrets in this game.

You can bring a friend, but playing the adventure mode together isn't very enjoyable. You all share the same screen so it usually ends up with the most experienced one telling the others what to do. The arena mode is fun though!

I've been through hell and back. Sit down and let me tell you my tale. I've played Spelunky for a while know and its a pretty goddamn fun game. It is certainly a challenging experience while maintaining fun gameplay, this game encouraged me to complete the main story due to me enjoying it. There were cuts, bruises, lots of death and rages, but I have done it. There was joy among the people, especially me who has completed it, good fortune has been blessed upon me. Until the villain of our story comes in. Spelunky HD's hard/true ending... . I cannot tell you how much sweat, blood, and power I have put my soul through just to get this, it's been days, months, years? How long has it been? I've lost track of time! So many deaths! So much time! Somebody HELP! PLEEEEEEAAAAAAASEEEEE...................... . Here we are today, I still dont know how long its been but its been a while. I haven't gotten the ending yet, something isn't allowing me to get it, is it Derek himself? The God of this world? The evil mastermind behind Spelunky? The proof is there, shopkeepers get angry for no reason, dark levels spawn whenever I get a shotgun, I remember jumping before I fell I swear! It has to be him... the most I can get back at him was to leave a bad review but... I like this game... he made me go through torture but he made me enjoy it... Derek... why...? Anyway good game 8/10, I recommend.

Spelunky, apart from being a charmingly designed and fun game is one of the THE roguelikes. It's punishing (Seriously punishing. I still havent beaten it in 90+ hours) yet rewarding gameplay combined with its high skill ceiling and replayability makes for a game that is just so fun to jump back into,

Spelunky is like life itself. You start, you play, you die and you learn. Because as you play you realize how realistic this game is in terms of learning, the game is 100% trial and error but it does it in such a well done way that at the end you feel a relief for doing well something that was complicated before and manage not to die by that enemy or trap.

Few games can give you that feeling that you have achieved something by yourself, not only for how well done it is in any section, in the graphics with that beautiful art of its creator Derek Yu that combines very well with how raw the game is with vivid colors, as well as the design of the characters and enemies reminiscent of a Cartoon aesthetic, with a music that I love for how well it sets each area of the game, from the mossy jungles, the terrifying temples and even the beautiful arrival to the golden city, each music does a good job for this game in setting each area, in addition to its variety that give you more you do to advance in your game by curiosity.

The curiosity that gives you this game to advance through its phases, and think fast mind that will be generated in the next level, because as it is a roguelike, the generation is random and as it is random the important thing is not how good you are memorizing the map, if not the tricks, tips and skill you get as you play the title, as in other games of the same genre like The Binding of Isaac, Crypt of the NecroDancer or Hades, but with platforms and with controls that make every mistake you make is yours and not the game and as you learn more tricks you feel how fast you advance in a scenario as dangerous as the infinite caves.

But as in every game of that genre has its flaws and Spelunky is not saved although its errors are minuscule for being just a Roguelike, sometimes the generation of maps can make you have a hard time, more if you want to complete it 100% or are a rushed player like me, more in the generation of some items that sometimes it seems that they can become very chaotic in the way they appear, so much that sometimes you can leave in part that you can not access less if you spend something or if you have an enemy next to you, but in the end it is more an opinion of mine regarding that issue and a minor problem that can bring you bad time if you are playing a game with personal challenges or making an achievement of requirements, but in the end it is something more secondary and not of the game itself.

At the end Spelunky I can consider it one of the best platform games I've played in my life along with Celeste, Super Mario Bros with World, Super Meat Boy and many more, because I love this genre. With an amount of content that can last you hours and hours, more if you want to do the most masochistic challenges of your community or play the daily challenges, with controls, graphics, music and gameplay that can remind you of life itself, because no matter how well equipped you are, no matter how many objects you have no matter how good a player you are, you're always going to die in the most realistic way. Because this game teaches you very well that advice not to trust and thanks to that this game enters my throne of my favorite platformers and I recommend it with all my heart.

Spelunky is the perfect blend of the platformer and roguelike genres. It's endlessly replayable, fast-paced and provides a constant stream of interesting decisions to make. The game is made up of lots of very simple parts, which suddenly become very complex and difficult to deal with when you throw them together. There's also a real sense of discovery and improvement as you gradually work out how things interact and how to deal with them.

It's also brutal. I (being bad at games) played for well over 100 hours before beating it. However, it is almost always fair. When you die, it's almost always your fault. But when you finally win, it's made even better by the fact that it's entirely due to your improvement and finally overcoming the challenges the game offers. The game doesn't get any easier, you just get better.

By far my favourite game of all time, and the only one I keep coming back to. Basically all I played for a year, and after getting all achievements I was so attached that now I just speedrun the game instead.

The game is good enough that I bought it here 5 years after I first bought it so that I could get the daily challenges. Spelunky 2 is amazing also, but having gotten 100% on that one, I've come back to this and decided that it's equally good in its own way. It took a couple weeks of daily challenges to get used to the differences, but I am now equally into this one as into 2 (except that multiplayer in 2 is far superior). Buy this and play it forever!

Spelunky is the original Rogue-like. No one played the original Rogue, gtfo. This game, however, started the roguelike trend, though. Deservingly so, this game is really good and an easy recommendation to anyone. Just a heads up though, it really is pretty balls hard. After 24 hours of game time and getting to the end boss about 4 or 5 times, I still have yet to beat it.

Spelunky is a randomly generated, level-based platforming game with perma-death. You go through a couple different themed levels, with multiple optional areas to go through once you get better and figure out some of the secrets in each area. Along the way you'll pick up money and treasure that you can use to buy some upgrades and optional items to help your odds along the way. You'll still be primarily dependent on your own skill, as deaths happen EXTREMELY fast. This is fine, as each death is a very harsh learning experience, and usually is the direct result of your own mistakes and sloppy play.

Runs of Spelunky are fairly quick, being somewhere between 10 and 40 minutes, if I had to guess. This makes this game great for quick pick-up-and-play sessions after long periods of playing or not playing this game. Definitely pick this one up when it's on sale, but I wouldn't say this is one of my top favorite games of all time. Just something that's fun to revisit every now and then.

I despise this game on a personal level, and I'm almost certain it feels the same for me. Now that I've 100%ed it, I'm never touching this again. I now harbor intense hatred towards all the frogs, monkeys, and giant spiders that I encounter in the real world. With every deviously complex series of traps that stunlocked me into oblivion or just instakilled me, I felt my insides attempt to claw their way outside. Oh, and FUCK the shopkeeper.

Great game though!

Spelunky is a game you can come back to every once in a while, and it feels fresh. Even if you die stupidly, you feel compelled to keep playing because it just feels fair, and you get better with each run. Highly recommend.

If you are up to the challenge, this is a very difficult game in which you fine tune your skill over time. It is one of my favorite filler games, because there is immense variety (each level is different) and you feel very accomplished after reaching the boss(es) and defeating them. This game has very simple controls, and is easy to learn, but hard to master. There are so many fun items to buy, use and discover while playing. I also need to mention the music and animation is great!

One of my favorite platformers available on steam.

Tight controls, cool environments, and fun item choices to make each run different than the last.

It's a difficult game to get started with. But as soon as you find your flow, the game becomes extremely enjoyable. Take your time, analyze your surroundings, and proceed with caution.

And please, don't try to play with this with a keyboard & mouse.

That's the gist.
This one is also very good though.
Challenging, but it's almost always that your actions are the ones that get you killed.

A timeless classic! Spelunky is a fantastic game and is one of the best 'roguelike' titles out there! The game is very challenging but not insurmountable. You'll die a lot when playing it but your deaths are almost always a result of your own actions/decisions (or inaction) and you'll quickly realize your tragic mistake(s) the moment you bite the dust.

If you've thought about picking up the sequel, I'd definitely recommend spending some time with this one first. The core mechanics are similar but I find that this version of Spelunky is 'more digestible' and serves a better entry point for new players.

Fun musical score and great artistic design. Spelunky has precision movements that make navigating the tricky levels a fun experience. There are also tons of 'secrets' to discover which makes replayability feel fresh and engaging for hours and hours.

Given how old the game is, the price-point is high (especially considering the price the much newer sequel) so I'd definitely wait to pick this one up on sale.

I hate the spider falling onto my head and launching me into spikes. I hate being comboed to death by a boomerang tiki man. I hate getting a mine suddenly launched into me and plummeting me 1000 miles through a bottomless pit. I hate getting telefraged or instantly crushed from a crusher which did not catch my eye.

This is one of my favorite games of all time.

Spelunky is a Roguelike platformer to which I have put in over 300 hours, over 2000 deaths, and endless work into. The concept of the game, which being a roguelike, is that every death you receive is deserved, and you will learn what to do or what NOT to do after each death. And while spelunky contains this formula and does it very well,

It also sprinkles in that instant, unexpected death, at anytime. Which is fun!

The game is easy to play, easy to pick up, simple controls to learn, but when mastered, you can accomplish anything. A main storyline to complete, and then a side, more difficult story, for veterans to complete. If you want a bunch of short, replayable fun, which can have a vast variety too it, I'd 100% recommend this game. If you like putting in hard work to gain a very powerful and satisfying reward, I'd 100% recommend this game. if you want to do special and obscure and VERY random challenges after mastering a game, I'd 100% recommend this game.

And most of all, if you love random bs to happen, I'd 1000% recommend this game.

Celery is such an underrated vegetable. It goes so well with any dipping sauce, Buffalo, ranch, blue cheese, anything. It’s so goddamn refreshing too, it’s like eating a cold bottle of water. Why isn’t celery more of an acceptable side? If I served you a steak with mashed potatoes and celery you’d be like what the fuck? But if I serve to a steak with mashed potatoes and green beans it’s an acceptable meal. GREEN BEANS SUCK. They’re just bland assholes and are somehow soggy and tough at the same time. Like how the hell did asparagus get prioritized over celery? Asparagus literally tastes like a fart yet it’s in every high class steak house across the country. You know what I’d like after a meal? A refreshing, light vegetable that compliments every taste. Not some vegetable that tastes like an actual asshole and makes my piss smell like I’m near death for several days.

I played this for 95 hours...just to beat it the easiest (or, to be more accurate, most straightforward) way. There are no difficulty levels, but beating the game doesn't mean you've beaten the game! After 95 hours, I still have at least four other even more challenging routes to try and beat.

95 hours, with gameplay so simple, and yet so rewarding. This game is a treasure. It seems so simple, and it is, but there is so much more than you think, even after 20, 30, or 40 hours. You're constantly discovering new things to do, new things you can do with the mechanics you already know, new places, new mechanics, and on and on. You can pick it up and play at any time, whether you want to spend five minutes or two hours, which makes it perfect for both at-home and on-the-go gaming; short bursts or long sessions.

And now I'm going to continue my journey...

Best roguelike (after Spelunky 2 that is)

Challenging but fair 99% of the time; a skilled player can win any seed even with the worst RNG. All obstacles are avoidable and have consistent behavior.

Always making risk vs reward decisions. Is it worth: robbing a shop, attempting tricky jump for an item, getting close to time limit for more gold, wasting a bomb on this obstacle, etc.

Lots of mysteries & secrets to discover. You can play for over 200 hours and still find out new interactions.

[*] Co-op is amazing, tense trying to survive so you can revive someone next level.

Played this on release on the Xbox 360 and still love it to this day. Very hard game but you learn more about the game every run. The game is filled with secrets and items to find. Just remember that even speedrunners die to spikes on 1-1.

This game has aged pretty damn well, and I can see this going down as a classic. It's a refreshing change to play a game that actually has difficulty to it, and (almost) every death feels like you deserved it (except for getting called a terrorist because a fire frog blew up the shop entrance, what the hell shopkeeper?) It's very easy to put a lot of time into this without even realising it.

I absolutely love this game and I would recommend it to anyone who enjoys roguelikes. The game can be beaten very quickly but due to the amount of content and different level generation of each run, you'll quickly find yourself putting quick a lot of time into this game. While Spelunky is difficult, every instance of damage is fair and nothing in the game feels like BS; when you die, it's your own fault. Overall, while the difficulty of the game can make it a bit intimidating for beginners, especially since the game doesn't have different difficulties, Spelunky makes it so the difficulty is reliant on how you choose to play and what bonuses and secrets you risk going for.

This game is so difficult that it would be less painful to put your own balls in a pneumatic press operated by Joe Rogan's left pectoral muscle than to try and get the real ending. If you can 'get real', 'git gud', and get over a game actually challenging you on a moment-to-moment gameplay level, there are few games with as great a sense of skillful progression and accomplishment.

This game is like gambling, you have the urge to keep trying and think that this time, you will win. This game is very difficult but fun at the same time, the game doesn’t hold your hand when you play, it tells you to just go and everytime you die makes it seem like your own fault, and the replay value is just astonishing. Spelunky is... I'll be honest, I think it might be a perfect game.

So it's a platforming roguelike where you enter through the mines (or a shortcut I guess if you feel like using those) and then you try and clear as much of the game as possible without dying. No lives, no continues. That's about it! It's pretty simple. You can probably stop reading now.

If you don't feel like you've had enough... something something that describes how it feels to play Spelunky and it's addictive etc.

Anyway, I think what stands out to me most is that the movement in this game is excellent. You get a great sense of momentum when running around and jumping, and the air control and your guy is sensitive enough that you can finely tune your motion without it feel overly twitchy. In other words, you can walk off a ledge and nudge back into it fast enough to continue holding onto whatever you're carrying, while also clinging onto the ledge. It takes practice, but you can do it. You can jump out from a single block crevice and jump up and away before air controlling yourself back into the ledge one block above you. It takes skill, but once again, you can do it. It's that kinda game.

So when exploring you'll sometimes find various items. Given that the game itself is only around 16 levels long (excluding 'special' stages), you'd think that some of the items you find are actually god mode. In fact, this is not the case at all, because in Spelunky you are basically constantly taking risks, small or large, to progress. It is not an RNG luck based risk, more often it is simply you pitting your ever-increasing skills against a game that is cruel and merciless but also fair in its judgment. Or, in other words, there are spikes and enemies that can instantly kill you if allowed - but you can work around them so long as you learn the methods to mitigate the danger.

Many of the 'things' in Spelunky often feel like a game designer joke. Things like the spikes that kill you if you touch them, yes, but also other things like enemies that smack you into pits, the way rocks and other objects can hit and stun you, the way certain enemies just instantly kill you on touch, and the way the game generates levels sometimes is on the level of black comedy. The game does a great job of making it somehow YOUR fault when you die, and I think that really helps the longevity of the game because there is never an excuse. Every time you die in Spelunky, it is on your head, because you weren't fast enough, or you misjudged the jump, or you simply didn't look where you were going, or you lost concentration for a moment. And I think that's great.

Spelunky does a great job I think of leading you along and teaching you the skills you need to succeed. For most casual players that just want to try this game, it's entirely possible to beat it simply by fulfilling certain challenges and unlocking the shortcuts that allow you much easier access to the four 'worlds' of the game. That's fine, but what I find more interesting is that the challenges were actually specifically designed to teach you how to beat the game from the very first stage without shortcuts.

The third task of the first challenge simply asks that you stay alive long enough to reach him, essentially. The third task of the second challenge teaches you about shopkeepers. And the third task of the third challenge... actually is an incredibly frustrating and surprisingly difficult challenge that actually teaches you how to beat the first three 'worlds' of the game while handicapped. These are all critical skills I think that a casual player could then turn into an actual run from the start of the game all the way to the end, having focused on learning how to beat every world through the shortcuts. I think this too, is great.

Another thing I like about Spelunky is, 'easy come easy go'. Or in other words, you'll probably find it surprisingly easy to happen across some really cool item (it just sometimes appears in a crate or something), but also death is a horrible and constant danger, always. So, often you'll get to play with something just enough before you die, and then you get to try again. This coupled with the fact that Spelunky games suffer from a certain time constraint means that any single run will only last minutes to half an hour at most, and I think that's almost ideal for a pure roguelike like this one. I think it's perfect because roguelikes are not meant to be a grandiose RPG action adventures, and I think that the focus on having set items that are the same every time is a strength of Spelunky, coupled with the randomized acquisition.

Spelunky by itself basically turned me onto the idea of roguelikes as a genre again, which is no mean feat. I think it encapsulates the concept behind the genre perfectly.

This Game pushes and kicks you around with no remorse, and is very unforgiving.. but that's what's so great about it.
It's difficult and that's the point. It doesn't have checkpoints (aside from shortcuts if you choose to use them), and takes everything you gained from you upon death, but I think that gives it something not many games do.

The progress you gain is the knowledge and experience necessary to move forward. And rather than being motivated by cool new items, or neat little trinkets, you're motivated by the fun of the game itself, and the feeling of making it farther than you have before, or finding secrets you hadn't yet experienced.

I think this game is great for the endless replayability, with it's randomly generating worlds, difficult gameplay that keeps things intense and interesting, and lack of rewards which would otherwise be limited and could cause a loss of interest once they've been collected.

Hell (aka Spelunky) is painful, it is one of the most painful games i have ever played, but thats what makes it so good.
Almost every enemy, every item, everything has a unique purpose whether its healing you, killing you etc. Discovering new areas and secrets in this world as you delve deeper into the caves is absolutely incapsulating. The game is a rougue like so once you die you restart the whole game, but it makes deaths quick and painful and puts you right back in the saddle to go again. The mechanics are simple at first glance but have such a depth never seen before in a 2D platformer its easy to get lost in hours of gameplay as you discover new techniques to help you through each individual situation. Its hard as nails and thats what makes it so good, and a second game is out now and soon coming to Steam and hopefully others soon! Full of new secrets and discovery to be had. If you haven't gotten it its only 15 bucks and worth your time, do yourself a favor and get the game. Though its torturous, its all worth it.

Playing Spelunky is like controlling an avalanche. Debry and casualties pile up as the run goes longer, longer, straight to hell on the edge of a knife. It is the beauty of systems crashing into each other, emergent play giving way to agony and delight in equal measure. Spelunky has never been a game I expect to “solve” so much as excavate. What happens when I throw a rock at this creature? Can I survive this fall? Will the shopkeeper notice me stealing?

There is a definite uneasiness to Spelunky’s themes, its comical and reverent place in the lineage of colonialist adventure stories. But like most things in Spelunky, its setting feels coincidental. A deadly temple is nothing if not an engine of combusting systems, too many operations happening in close quarters to not interfere with one another. That doesn’t excuse its colonialist skin, but it feels so much more harmless when what is being focused on is not “how much loot can I plunger from these indigenous peoples” but “holy shit here comes a ghost!”

Spelunky turns even the most cautious of players into agents of chaos. There are few things as gleeful as watching a new player’s disastrous attempts to tame what they haven’t even come to understand. It’s an elitist type of fun, but always with the knowledge that we were once the stragglers. Now we live in hell and ask the devil for a space heater.

Epic game... finally beat it... (+55 hrs) and now... on to hell and beyond.

Due to the randomness of the game and level regeneration you need a lot of skill and luck in order to be able to finish the game. Steep learning curve and the whole world is out to pretty much kill you.

Every death is a learning experience to become a better player. The game is fair in the sense that you feel like every death could have been prevented and that it is your own fault. Looking forward to Spelunky 2 in a month!

As I run I hear the sound of an arrow speeding towards me, from above something falls almost hitting me. As I race past I turn around and see an arrow impaling a spider. I reach a dead end and use a bomb to descend into the next chamber below. Visibility is poor and a snake comes rushing towards me, I raise my whip and strike to deter my assailant. My stand off with the snake is interrupted by a swarm of bats. I turn and run for my life, jumping over spike pits which gaze menacingly from below. The exit gate is ahead, but I lose sight of it as the ground gives way and swallows me whole. Brushing a pile of dirt off myself, I get up and see a ghost materialising from a nearby wall. In a state of panic I throw a rope, ascend and crawl through the exit gate, descending further into the unknown.

Great game, brutally hard.

To start, each level is randomly generated with many inconveniently placed traps and enemies. There are four main worlds to conquer, each having four levels. You finish the game (normally) by beating Olmec. There is an optional fifth world which is incredibly hard to reach. Some enemies and traps can end a run instantly, and even your own tools can end up killing you.

To beat the game from start to finish, you have to understand the game's mechanics pretty well. One wrong step and you could find yourself back at 1-1. If anything doesn't look safe, it probably isn't safe. There are golden idols, shops, and even sacrificial altars waiting to reward the player with gold and items. However, all these things have their own ways of punishing the player.

From getting exploded by a frog to having your brains fried by an alien lord, this game will make you die a little inside every time you lose. Good luck!

I have this game on PS4 and Steam. A friend told me the game is hard and I wanted to prove him wrong. 5 years later I still haven't finished it. Great game. 10/10. Can't wait not to finish Spelunky 2!

An absolutely amazing game, maybe not for everyone but if it caught you're eye enough to look in her definitely try it

The only thing that might make people who are interested in it initially drop it is the difficulty, the game can and more often then not is absolutely brutal with it's perma death and difficulty..but its so so fun, do try

Very difficult at first, but once you get the mechanics and patters down, it's fun to run through the game, even if you die a lot.

The randomly generated level structure keeps it fresh and exciting.

Very, VERY addicting 2D platformer. You're just going through mines in a very Metroid way, and collecting loot. It's very simple, yet also quite rewarding. I will say though, play the game with a controller. You will have a much better time.

You will despise this game with every fiber of your being but you can play this game years after stopping and still get a lot of enjoyment out of it. Plus that Yeti Ice Caves music is to die for.

Spelunky is a near perfect game. It is a difficult game with a real since of progression. It is a hard game where you will die a lot, and that is fine. It is difficult but consistent and fair.
