Es ist einfach ein perfektes Sonic Spiel! Es hat viele verschiedene und abwechslungsreiche Storys, sehr schöne Oberwelten, eine spannende Story, geile Musik(wie immer halt) und manche Voiceclips haben Meme Potenzial xD

Kindheitserinnerung pur, wobei ich als kleines Mädchen hauptsächlich im Chao-Garten war... Macht auf jeden Fall Bock, wenn man es früher schon gespielt hat. Die Kameraführung in dem Spiel ist halt totale Grütze, aber das kann man fürs Sonic Feeling verschmerzen.

Great game, very fun to play! The base steam version is very bad though, graphically wise at least. I very much suggest using mods to fix up the graphical issues before playing. Other than Big, I think there is a lot of fun to have. Not to mention it's a breeze to play the cats stages after looking it up.

USE MODS!

The regular version on Steam is the worst port of a great game. The analog input is changed to an 8 way digital input, the game is locked to 4:3 aspect ratio with no widescreen option, and there's just some odd bugs and changes that hurt the experience.

Mods like Better SADX and the mod loader fix all these issues and you can make the visuals more like the original Dreamcast version. On top of that the modding community for this game is pretty big and there's a lot of fun stuff to try out. Look up a Youtube video if you're having trouble with modding it. It's pretty simple once it's laid out for ya. The mods turn this from the worst way to play Sonic Adventure into the best way and I can't thank the people who worked on them enough for it.

Chao Gardens were the best part of this game for me as a child. That still holds true. I wish they'd make more games with Chao Gardens, or even just a whole Chao Garden game.

Gameplay is fairly solid, but an old glitch still holds true and hateful; the control glitch that moves you to the left constantly. It happens if the game has been running for a bit. Just a fair warning for newer players.

I love this game, I love this game, I love this game, and I love this game.

What do you expect? An in-depth review that cartoonishly bashes a poorly aged 3D platformer that was released in the late 90s? Sorry, but that's a completely unfair point of view if I have to say, no game of that era aged that well, but we still cherish those other games for how revolutionary they are despite the time of release.

I'll say form your own opinion and determine if this game is for you or not as I can't say it's for everyone.
But don't allow the negativity of others to influence the way you feel towards a specific game, for me... I love this game and I can't express how much I do.

NOTE:

I played this using the BetterSADX mod which changes the view to widescreen, fixes the frame rate, restores Dreamcast lighting effects, and makes other improvements. This is a simple download and install with minimal effort. So I won't be talking about the weak nature of the port as it can all be fixed by installing this.

Here's what you do:

This is a 3D platformer where you select various characters to view their perspective of the story to piece it all together. Each character plays differently, but they each have a different number of levels to play (Sonic has the most of course). You can only play as Sonic in the beginning and you unlock other characters to play as you meet them in the story. In levels there are rings along your path which you can collect 100 of to get an extra life. If you have any number of rings and get hit, you will drop all your rings and may be able to pick some of them back up. If you get hit when you don't have any rings you will lose a life. The rings you have at the end of a level are stored to be used to buy things in the Chao Garden (more on that later).

Between levels you can roam around the city, mystic ruins, and eventually Eggman's ship where you will view story cutscenes, find character upgrades (a few are required to progress, but most are optional), and find emblems which unlock old Game Gear games. The story is that there is a monster named Chaos that Dr. Eggman/Robotnik is powering up by giving it chaos emeralds. Sonic and his friends are out to stop this from happening. There is a final boss level after all characters have completed their story.

The Characters:

Sonic is the main gameplay style here. He has 10 levels with the goal of getting to the end. Most take five to ten minutes to beat your first time through, but can be beat in three to five minutes (more on that later). Sonic has a homing attack by pressing the jump button again in the air to attack a nearby enemy by spin-dashing into it. Sonic gets an ability to charge up and then dash continuously through a line of rings. If spotted by the player, a line of rings over a bottomless pit or enemies to be homing attacked can lead to alternate paths. Each character can get a basic shield powerup that acts as an extra hit befor you lose any rings. There is an electric shield variant which will act as a magnet to rings, attracting them towards you.

Tails will have a smaller section of what was a Sonic level where he has to beat Sonic in a race to the finish. Even though Sonic is the fastest character in the game, Tails can fly which allows him to make his own short cuts to beat Sonic to the end of the level.

Knuckles is collecting pieces of the master emerald. There are three pieces in each level and a blinking radar on the bottom of the screen will tell you when you are near any of them.

Amy has only three levels where she is running from one of Dr. Eggman's robots the entire level. Amy carries a hammer which can be used to fight enemies and hit the ground while running to get a high jump. She is the second slowest character in the game. There are some more puzzle elements to Amy's levels, needing to hit switches or put blocks in place.

E-102 is one of Dr. Eggman's robots who is sort of turned against Dr. Eggman by Amy. E-102's levels are about getting to the end of a level and taking out another robot before time runs out. He has a laser targeting system to shoot small missiles at enemies. He can target multiple enemies and get a combo, which adds more time onto the timer. I found this to be an interesting alternative gameplay style.

Big the cat is the slowest character and has does fishing. His story is that he is chasing after his frog friend who has Chaos' tail somehow. Big has little to no interaction with any of the other characters in the story, so he could be cut and no one would miss him. The fishing is very tedious as you must reel in Froggy without letting your line break (causing you to lose a life).

Other things I like:

I have not been a big fan of Sonic's 2D games because they are large levels where I mostly just around until I reach the end. These levels are more linear with set challenges to face. There are some shortcuts and optional paths useful for accomplishing the extra challenges. I like this type of platforming level design.

I like the implementation of the other characters (except Big) to add variety to the gameplay. They were smart to give these characters fewer and shorter levels. The story is very simple so telling it in pieces doesn't make it any more interesting. This just allows the player to decide which character they want to play as for the moment instead of being swapped around from one level to the next.

The BetterSADX mod come with some optional cheats the player can apply. The one I used for completing all of Big's trial missions is infinite line tension. This allows you to just hold the button to real in any fish. There are other cheats like infinite lives and rings but I did not use them as I enjoyed the challenge of most the other missions. There are a few missions that are made harder due to the combination of the stiff controls and wonky physics (looking at Sonic and Tails' snowboarding challenges).

Other things I don't like:

Controls are not very tight because your air movement is heavily influenced by your speed. Thankfully there is virtually no precision platforming in this game. There are times where characters will studder when against edges such as stairs or walls. Even in the first level Sonic can fall off the side of a stage with short walls to his death. The physics are finicky and the player has to learn when not to mess with them if they want to stay alive.

Speaking of which, lives seem pointless in this game as getting a game over is only going to kick you out of the level, you're not going to be sent back to 1-1. There are checkpoints in levels that you return to upon death, but having limited lives with wonky physics means the player is discouraged from making risky or experimental moves and punished for the occasional hickup when it is the game's fault. Also, Big is pointless to this game. He and his fishing have no reason to be here.

Getting all the emblems unlocks Metal Sonic in Trial mode, which is just a reskin of Sonic and has the same missions as him. It is kinda pointless other than an excuse to replay Sonic's levels again.

Conclusion:

Overall I enjoyed this game. Sonic's levels are the main attraction here with some variations using the other characters. The other characters (except Big) add different flavors to the platforming, but Big and the Chao garden are not platforming at all so I don't think they belong here, especially when they are not at all interesting on their own. With this being Sonic's first true 3D game, it's somewhat stiff controls and animations take some getting used to. I like a lot of the ideas in this game and only wish they were tweaked a bit like I described above. This is a fun game to play through considering the BetterSADX mod is installed.

A lot of fishing games exist. But how many fishing games exist that are masterpieces? Big’s Fishing Adventure DX takes the fishing game genre to a heightened level. To this day, over two decades later, no other fishing game can compare to its unequivocal charm.

Some will tell you that this gameplay is bad. Do not freight though, for this lovable, obese, purple feline has within him a power that no other character in fiction can quite match. Big the Cat is a humble creature that wants nothing more than for his best friend, Froggy, to be saved. This story is simple, but when was a simple story ever a bad thing? A story about friendship, sacrifice and hardships. The story starts in a house covered with cannabis in the middle of a clean swamp and ends with a sacrificial chant on holy ground.

My theory is that Big the Cat is actually a deity suppressing his ultimate powers.

I’ll get to that later.

At this point in 1999, most fishing titles were slow, clunky and had a lot to be desired. They lacked an extensive soundtrack and were...kind of boring!

Introducing Big’s Fishing Adventure DX. A fishing game that has basic platforming, a beautiful ost and a heartwarming story about friendship. This is quite literally one of the best fishing games of the century.

The gameplay involves you fishing for fish. It’s very simple, once a fish latches onto your bait, you must slowly reel them in without breaking your pole. It can be time consuming, it can be fickle, but it is inherently rewarding whenever you catch these marine creatures. You spend several minutes fighting a fish and once you reel one out, a catchy, loud victorious tune blasts. It feels like a rush of dopamine whenever this happens and any issues you have are instantly forgiven. It’s a blessing. As if your patience is rewarded.

There are some basic platformer elements here. You waddle about (Big is very fat, so he kind of hobbles), you can jump and hit enemies with your fishing pole. You must get close to the fish before reeling them in. Once you reel out, you will notice that big sits comfortably on his furry buttox. It’s charming. In some cases, you can even strategize by getting as close as humanly possible, pixel by pixel, to Froggy so that you reel him in faster. Position is key.

Remember how I said fishing games before this were kind of boring? I made mention of the music for good reason. Catching a fish in Big’s Fishing Adventure feels like you’re being blasted off to the moon. It’s loud, blaring, and INTENSE. Fishing is made intense and invigorating with the music and sounds in this game. Seriously, how can a game take a soothing sport in real life and turn it into this arcadey pumped af experience? Sound is key.

The great thing about this game is that each level has the main goal being to catch your friend. He is very simple to catch, a measly 500g. The fun is when you try doing missions “B” and “A” which require you to aim for bigger, girthier fish. Keep in mind, catching bigger fish is all optional and the root of the gameplay is very relaxing once you get the hang of the fishing basics.

There are only 4 levels in this game and they are all good. Twinkle Park is pretty small, but it’s to have you test the waters. There’s only two types of fish you can catch and of course, your best friend Froggy. It can be hard to do the missions in this level, but I’d say it’s worth it. Simple, but good.

Next there is Ice Cap. I love how when you climb the ladder to this level, Big climbs it within a fraction of a second (I must preface, Big is God.) Something I like about Big’s levels from this point onwards is how vast, open and exploratory they are. However, unlike other games, you aren’t forced to explore. You see, you can find Froggy at the start of each of these levels instantly. I like this because the game gives you the option to finish a level as fast as possible, or to go out exploring and catching various types of fish. Ice Cap is a pretty chill and cool level. The music here is haunting and it feels like you can hear the icicles being lightly tapped. The frigid air and light sparkly tones wrap you in this numb blanket. You pick up a rock with ease (of course, Big is God.) and fish out your best friend within a matter of seconds. I’m glad because I can’t imagine how cold that water was for our frog friend.

Emerald coast is my favorite level. It’s lush, colourful and has beautiful music. It captures this summer feeling with a spice of nostalgia in a flawless manner. It fits Big perfectly, as it compliments his stylish sandals and tube upgrade as well. I’d say he has quite the attire, honestly. Speaking of upgrades, this game offers lure upgrades throughout the hub world. They make your fishing adventure easier and reward you for exploring the world. This is essential if you wish to do Rank “A” missions. Emerald coast in my opinion actually has the hardest Rank “A” mission. It’s so large that sometimes the fish swim waaaaay far out. It’s a bit frustrating, but with enough patience (like fishing in real life!) you can manage. Emerald Coast has a cool hidden area where you can find all kinds of sharks and eels as well. There is no reason for these parts to exist and I like how they do. Level design is key.

Finally, we are left with Hot Shelter. This level has you go through a small path, but it’s not an issue for Big at all. Once you reach the core, you can fish froggy out or explore the rest of the level. It’s a pretty easy level. I’d say it’s a bit harder than Ice Cap but easier than Emerald Coast. This is because most of the fish you want to get are tightly kept in the center. They cannot swim far like in Emerald Coast, but they aren’t trapped in an upwards angle like Ice Cap. It’s pretty basic as a level and relaxing. That soundtrack just slaps though.

The story, like I said, is a heartwarming one. You are Big the Cat. Big the Cat is not your typical action hero, but a very girthy purple cat seeking vengeance for his friend. Even though his friend rejects him FOUR times, he goes against all odds and chases him. Big never gives up on his friend. I think Big the Cat is loyal to a fault and it’s heartfelt once he and Froggy reunite with a song and dance at the end. Aside from that, he is not intelligent. In fact, some would go and say that Big is likely handicapped in intelligence. What he lacks in intelligence, he has in kindness and spirit. He talks slowly, sure, but I think this is only so that the player understands every action. After all, fishing is simple and so is Big.

However, something Big does have like other heroes, is his INSANE amounts of strength. He climbs ladders in nanoseconds, he lifts rocks without much struggle and can fish out FUCKING SHARKS. Keep in mind too, that unlike Sonic who murders Chaos 6, Big wants to make peace by not killing the beast, but by saving his friend first. That’s touching. I’m sure Big could have literally poked Chaos 6 and made him melt, but nah fam, he’s just that chill.

The story is comedic in my opinion. Big lives in an outdoor shack covered with marijuana. Big also lives near holy grounds. My assertion is that the Gods likely blessed this meek cat with vigorous bouts of strength for being a kind and gentle soul. Big is an example of what people should strive to be. To live in nature, to live in the moment with your best friend, to do anything for your friends, to not kill...this story teaches us a lot of things about life.

Finally, I’d like to comment on Big’s theme song “Lazy Days.” This song can instantly put a smile on anyone’s face. It captures Big’s essence so well.

Which is why Big’s Fishing Adventure DX is a masterpiece that should be played by all.

I highly suggest you also modify the game to have “Duke Nukem” voice lines for fun.

What’s that...Sonic? Tails? Amy?...What are these names you’re talking about? All that matters is Big the Cat.

It's extremely dated in terms of the presentation, but in all honesty in terms of gameplay, I'd personally say almost all of SADX has held up well (barring the damn fishing stages, of course), and I personally had a blast, especially with Sonic and Tail's stages. Also, the music still kicks ass.

I am writing this review to let you guys know two things:

First off if you actually plan on playing through Sonic Adventure nowadays, do yourself a favour and get mods installed! These quality of life improvements are absolutely AMAZING and will make the game feel fresher than any modern sonic game ever has. Here's the mod pack installer I used.

And second off, the amount of fun you will have picking this up for the first time or revisiting it is proportionate to the amount of effort you are willing to put in to learn how to play the game fast.

I'm of the opinion that going through and 100%ing the game has made my Sonic Adventure experience WAY more enjoyable, this game is absolutely FULL of useful glitches and absolutely insane stage breaking optimisations that are really fun to pull off thanks to the insane potential movement Sonic has in this game. Comparing it to SA2, I'd say SA1 has infinitely more ways to optimise your gameplay and getting low times/speedrunning stages is the most satisfying it has ever been since sonic made the jump to 3D. You really feel like you master this game over time and it becomes so satisfying!

If you want some video evidence just watch the SGDQ for sonic adventure 1 vs sonic adventure 2!

A fair warning though if you do decide to 100% the game with mods installed, remove ALL of them before attempting to do mission 53, it makes it WAAAY harder to get it and took me a few days before looking it up and finding out it's the mods. Other than this, the mods do not interfere with any other facet of the game and can be safely run everywhere else.

While I recommend this game, I do NOT recommend this game for the game itself. Sonic Adventure DX is a textbook example of how not to make a port. Intense texture degradation, a completely destroyed lighting system, new character models that, while higher poly, have objectively worse texturing and feel out-of-place in the game world, and NEW GLITCHES are just a few of the sins that this port has tarnished the name of this game with.
What you must do instead is find PkR's mod installer, which will provide a nearly complete fix and total reversion to the original and superior vision on the Dreamcast.
Sonic Adventure, once you finally restore it to how it was meant to be played, is one of the best 3D platformers of its era. Expansive open hub worlds, impressive graphics for its time, vhighly complex virtual pet system that WILL consume a large chunk of your playtime once you get hooked, and large, interconnected story told from six separate viewpoints make it a joy to replay over and over.
Most of the time.
As great as it is, there are still parts that haven't quite aged well. The shoddy translation work, while iconic in its own special way, can bog down story comprehension at times. Also Big the Cat. Big the Cat is pain.
Still, this is a story that, once you've trimmed the crap from the package, is a must-play for the true Sonic experience.

I first played this game when it came out on Dreamcast on launch as well as the DX version on Gamecube so my nostalgia for this game was at an all time high.
After purchasing it on sale, I installed the Dreamcast conversion mod (the DX version has too many bugs and I prefer the models and textures of the DC version) and the HD hud (blurry menus are so 2001) and I was on my way...
Was it as good as I remember?
No, this game has aged terribly. It's shit. But it's so shit it's good.
It's like watching the Room. You know it's shit but it's so damn charming.
The cheesy cutscenes, bad voice acting, glitchy gameplay and the shitty fishing filler levels make this game hard to come back to.
This game was very ambitious for it's time, showing off what the Dreamcast was capable of even if it tried a little bit too hard and over shot the mark a lot of the time.
Maybe it's the nostalgia taking over my brain like a parasite but I still enjoyed myself enough to 100 percent it...
I loved the Sonic stages (getting the 3rd Emblem for each Sonic level was a really fun challenge) the music is really good and you can feel that Sonic Team put a lot of their heart and soul into this project.
For better of for worse it feels like a labour of love and you can't knock it for that.
If you want a cheesy but lovable dumpster fire then you should buy this on sale.

Sonic Adventure DX is generally an extremely enjoyable experience.
It does however have many flaws/bugs that can increase/decrease the amount of fun but that's to be expected since it's an old game port.
But since the game is only 1/2 euro's during sales and since you're able to get quite a few hours of enjoyment out of it, I will without a doubt recommend this to anyone that somewhat enjoys 3d sonic games and doesn't know what to play.

What a classic game this is.

It must be said that although my Stats indicate I've played this game for 3.5 hours, I've probably played upwards of 1,000 hours in total on the Xbox and Non-Steam PC versions of the game. The various benefits of those platforms has made me neglect the Steam version. You don't have to waste time setting up your controllers and everything is so much simpler with the Xbox. The Non-steam PC version allows installation of mods such as the 'Better SADX Mod' which greatly enhances the quality of the game, and the 'XInput Fix' allowing for seamless integration of the prized Xbox 360 controller. (One and Series S/X controllers work too)

The actual gameplay is kind of wonky; a bit janky. It's riddled with glitches and bugs and strange physics that might be off putting for a new player; especially one who is more familiar with the newer, tighter feeling sonic Games. However, with an element of brokenness comes with plenty of exploits that can be used for speedrunning and easier achievement hunting. I myself have been speedrunning this game on and off since 2007 and I personally love the wonky and buggy gameplay as it allows for quite extreme manipulation of the games physics and map design. Clipping through specific spots in walls like in Ice Cap can result in skipping hugely long and tedious auto scrolling sections of the game which is incredibly fun to do and prompts extremely deep exploration of a game which on the surface looks fairly linear and typical. This is what has kept me and countless others engaged with this game for so many years. The joy of discovery is always present.

The player starts with Sonic like any other game, but by only the first level you are given an option (albeit indirectly) to either continue as Sonic or Tails, and this occurs multiple times throughout the game. There is no wrong or right way to complete this game. Speedrunner's for years have been trying out different strategies by changing when and where to play as each of the 6 main characters. This experimentation is not limited to just the the character's story, but also the levels that the characters must complete. Levels like Speed Highway and Casinopolis in Sonic's story can be played earlier than intended allowing for unusual story progressions and possible time saves which in its self is rather thrilling. This constant and ever present manipulation that is possible by playing this game can awaken anyone's curiosity and inner explorer.

Optional side-stories like the Chao garden and the accompanying races offer another element of immersion to the game as well. Personally, I have spent many hours, days, weeks, months and even years raising these lovable virtual pets! Your actions towards them can completely change their evolution process and their 'types', something closely akin to Pokemon games. Do you want a Water Type, Flying Type, Power Type, Run type or even a neutral type Chao? You can choose for yourself! Defeating Eggman's miniture robotic enemies that are in every level frees an RNG dependent Animal. These Animals will have different 'Types' and can be used to give your Chao different cosmetic features like Wings or Paws but can also influence which of their 5 stats will be upgraded, which can then influence what they evolve into. The possibilities in this game are endless and provides a very immersive experience, which is something I've felt lacking from all Sonic Games since 'Unleashed' from 2008; my personal favourite.

The standard character stories and Chao Garden still not your thing? Completionist's will be thrilled to hear that each single level has 3 different 'sub-missions' within. Some might be a time trial, or a ring collection mission, enemies destroyed and even 'most fish caught' missions with the calming levels of Big the Cat. Each of these missions grant you 1 Emblem out of the total 130. Collecting all results in a very rare Achievement. It's awarded to those with hours of patience, dedication and hard work.

Despite it's obvious flaws and the generally weak plot, I'm still able to overlook all of these things as I know the rewards of playing this game will also trump it's flaws, and the flaws are only part of this game's charm and comedic value. This game continually surprises, enlightens and delights me each time I play it, and I hope it will for you too.

I can't give this game a numerical based rating so I'll resort to two remarkable words - It's Cracking!

Sonic Adventure is a really fun game that I'd recommend to anyone who's curious. Fast-paced level design, tight controls, interesting story, electric music, and fun playable characters (Big is just mid tho). If you want to get into 3D-sonic or just 3D platformers in general, Sonic Adventure is a great starting point. 8/10

Game is a classic, action stages are fun. Camera controls and character controls are a little wonky on the controller but is still playable. I also had audio to its lowest and certain sound effects were still unbearably loud.

Oh Dear, i'm not Hating on Sonic Adventure, this is a review of port available on Steam. This port of the 2004 PC version is awful, it's got glitches that weren't in the Dreamcast original, and the lighting and overall graphics have been given a really obvious down grade. The Game underneath is great, but the port doesn't do it justice.

This port is absolute garbage. You want to know broken is it? The very first screenshot on this storepage has a texture error on Sonic's shoes.

That being said, if you mod it to fix this port with e.g. the Dreamcast Conversion alongside other mods that fix this up, it becomes the best version of the game.
But that's what fans did, not Sega themselves.
So this gets a thumbs down from me for being the absolute worst and most accessible version to date, it kinda spits in the face of the original game when it has buggier and worse graphics than the Dreamcast version, how is it Deluxe or a Director's Cut when it's worse? The stupid mission mode where you carry a statue around a bazillion times with horrible direct translations from JP to EN? Iizuka didn't even direct this director's cut.
Enhanced port? It literally took out the lighting engine, saturated all of the textures to make it look worse, transparency issues where there weren't before, you can glitch through collision where you couldn't before, an enemy doesn't even work correctly, prerendered videos look worse and sometimes originate from unfinished builds, and the characters are less expressive than the original, the handful of new models aren't even consistent the whole way through and now also look like plastic. And that's just scratching the surface of the bottomless pit of downgrades the ports have done to this game. Feel free to read more about it on there:

I pray you don't use this port as the base for the next Sonic Adventure port to another platform and instead try to either A) work with fans to fix this mess or B) use the 1999 Dreamcast version instead.

Easily one of my favourite games of all time. The only game I've ever loved and mastered enough to do speedruns of. Cannot suggest the Sonic Adventure games enough. Some of the best soundtracks of all time, I really never get tired of racing through these levels and enjoying the surprisingly brutal story. I thought it was just my nostalgia but it holds up incredibly well as a game I think I'll probably enjoy from time to time for the rest of my life. Highly suggest playing with a USB Gamecube controller.

With some easy modifying thanks to SADX Mod Installer, this easily becomes the best way to play Sonic Adventure.
Not only will it incorporate the necessary bug fixes, but players are able to choose between the old Dreamcast models, textures, lighting engine, or the higher poly DX models. Quality of life changes can be implemented as well, such as quick light speed dashing through a single input. Beta/cut content can be restored easily, such as the beta version of Windy Valley. Modding the game is also incredibly simple, and it surprisingly runs better than Sonic Adventure 2's PC port.

Sonic Adventure was the first full fledged 3D Sonic game.
It released in Japan in 1998, and later in the West in 1999.
This was the franchise's first attempt at 3D game play, and it's arguably the most faithful to the original 2D games. Everything from the sound effects used for jumping, to the aesthetics in levels, and the way those levels are designed with branching paths showcased that the franchise can work in 3D, and still be great fun. In many ways this game is the most successful 3D iteration of the series and hasn't been topped. It's not to say that games like Adventure 2, Unleashed, Colors, Generations, etc. aren't good in their own right, but the first Adventure game feels the most true to the series past, and I honestly wish they would have stuck to this formula. The adventure field definitely makes the world that the characters live in feel more alive, and it was an interesting way to bring all the playable characters together. Really though, where the game play shines is within' Sonic himself. It's an absolute blast running, attacking, and spin dashing through levels with fluid control over his character. Branching paths/short cuts make replaying levels fun, and allow players to approach in many different ways. Sure you could run through an area and continue on your way to the goal, but with a well timed spin-dash, a player can skip entire areas with just the right precision/skill. This to me is why I feel it's the best implementation of the series when looking at it from it's 2D counterparts. It's not to say the game isn't without some flaws. Tails' levels are fun but incredibly short. Due to the fact that Tails can fly it makes playing as him way too easy/trivial. Knuckles on the other hand had levels made with treasure hunting in mind, and it's honestly not a bad approach. The radar in the treasure hunting levels are less of a nuisance in this game versus Adventure 2, simply because your radar from the get picks up on all 3 emerald shard locations. It's a well done change of pace. Amy's levels are fun as well, but once again do feel sort of short. There are original areas made specifically for her, but much like the rest of the cast she doesn't have many action stages. Gamma's shooting feels more enjoyable to me than playing as Eggman or Tails in Adventure 2 as well. Big the Cat is a fun fishing mini-game if you disagree you're wrong.

The story is a bit of a mess, but cheesy and enjoyable nonetheless.
Sonic stops Eggman and saves the day.
Tails & Amy become more independent.
Knuckles returns the Master Emerald to one piece.
E-102 Gamma's story will hurt your little feelings.
Big's reunited with an old friend.
[spoiler]An ancient God like guardian's soul finally rests in peace with an old friend after Sonic b*tch slaps him in Super form.[/spoiler]

The music though.
Cheesy? Sure.

One of the games I've played the most in my entire life. It's the perfect 3D Sonic game.

The stages and soundtrack are excellent, the story is super interesting and the Chao Garden was the best thing of my childhood.

If you try to judge this game by today's standards, it's garbage. There's gameplay glitches and wonky physics everywhere, the graphics are abysmal, the sound design is cheesy and unpolished, the voice acting is beyond sub-par, and so on. Even back in the day when this game first came out, when Sonic and Mario were rival frontrunners for their respective platforms, this was the point where Super Mario 64 took its hero to new heights while Sonic Adventure forever solidified Sonic's place as second fiddle. It's not great.

But, Sonic Adventure has one thing in spades, and that's soul.

Admittedly, I'll always look at this game through a thick pair of nostalgia goggles that I can't take off. But there's something about this game that makes me want to periodically replay it every few years. The way everything looks, the tone of the plot, the soundtrack, the locations...it all fits the aesthetic of Sonic far better than the more modern titles from recent years. Even though this game is VERY far from perfect, this was the era where the Sonic franchise still knew what it was, and it didn't try to be anything other than itself. And honestly, from the bumper cars in Twinkle Park to the Panzer Dragoon styled segments in the Tornado, I think one of the reasons why this game fell on its face so hard is because it jumped so high to begin with. It was ambitious for the time, yet it never strayed too far away from that distinct Sonic feel. Like I said, by modern standards the game sucks. But, if you want to experience a game from the era when 3D platformers were basically the Wild West of game design, Sonic Adventure is worth looking at if you're willing to play it with an open mind. It's charming in its own special way, and it'll always have a place in my library because of it.

this is one of my favorite games of all time, i can't say enough about how much i love it. all i can say is if you decide to get it yourself than you should download the better SADX mod pack, it comes with the Dreamcast conversion mod as well as a few other quality-of-life improvement mods that make it play and look a lot more like the dreamcast original which is in almost all ways better than the DX port.

As a huge fan of SEGA and the Sonic franchise, I remember getting Sonic Adventure when it first came out on the SEGA Dreamcast many years ago. I had great memories of the game, and collecting Chao on the Dreamcast MCU, and overall it was a terrific experience.

I was hesitant about a port of the game, and the DX reviews also worried me. However, I have to say the game works excellently, it's exactly like I remembered. I am sure the reviews are true and that there are items missing; however, it's been nearly a decade since I have played it, and nothing jumps out as missing.

Overall the game holds up well, and really shows what the Dreamcast was capable of. I will say the graphics aren't much better from the port, so don't think this is a remaster of any sort.

I, um, don't HATE this game. It's got some good ideas. But age has not treated the consensus of it well. It IS buggy, it IS inconsistent with its design and play-types. It never really settles on one idea, and that's it's flaw. It's big, monstrous flaw. I think for fans, this is fine. Hell, I still like playing it. But for newcomers... You will most likely be frustrated and confused.

Steam's Sonic Adventure is not only DX (what is a problem by itself), but the worst version of DX ever made. There's a whole guide named The Ultimate Guide to Sonic Adventure DX Sins, which lists all the numerous downgrades and removed content. Every single area has downgrades worth a 1000-2500 word essay. It's no wonder I got a negative impression of the game, as this is the first version I played. The amount of cons heavily outweighs the pros.

If you don't feel like going through the guide right now, I can try and sum it up. Despite calling itself Deluxe version, SADX messed up and sometimes even removed a lot of stuff. Think that's already reason enough not to play DX? It's even worse on this port. Many lighting effects and animations got even more disarranged, not to mention rendering issues. Some rooms don't even have any lighting effects anymore. If you still want to buy and play this version, I recommend you at least install BetterSADX and opt for Complete Dreamcast Experience. The guide I mentioned could help you with that too.

Sonic Adventure DX is a classic that pioneered a new standard for the series. This experience doesn't come without its shortcomings though. The movement and camera feel very shaky. The animations have clearly not aged well and most boss battles are not well designed. Despite all of that, I was able to look past the faults to relive some of the greatest memories I have of this game. The strongest gameplay comes from how you are rewarded for exploring each hub environment and level. For those who seek replay value, reattempting completed stages will offer new missions that provide a greater challenge. I also enjoyed experiencing the story told from different character perspectives, piecing things together as I went along. If you are a fan of Sonic and are seeking nostalgia, then you too will be able to see the charm of this adventure. Game on.

This game taught me how to love life again. I am a recovering heroin addict and I found this game while I was going through heroin withdrawals. I have beaten this game eight times since 2012, once per year, and every time I finish one of the characters' amazing and beautifully written stories I can't stop myself from crying tears of joy. My favorite story and the one that I can relate to the most is Big the Cat's story. Big's journey consists of him chasing his wacky reptilian friend Froggy, catching him, Froggy running away again and Big chasing after him until he catches him again. Big's story is essentially just a metaphor for heroin addiction, the way that he keeps chasing after Froggy and losing him is symbolic of back when I would inject the sweet candy (which is what I would refer to heroin as) three times a day, as I would keep chasing after a bigger more intense high and once I got it, I would lose and have to run after it again. This game controls like shit though. Tails gameplay is really fucking loud too. After first playing Knuckles story and completing it I was inspired by the absolutely astonishing music to pursue a career in music myself, which has really changed my life for the better. The knuckles music has truly changed my life for the better. Amy's game is pretty stupid and dumb, because pink hedgehogs aren't real and it ruins my immersion. IG-88's story was a real eye opener for me, as it clearly depicts real world racism just using robots as a stand-in for the African-American community. Ah yes who could forget Sonic's classic story of revenge. Watching Sonic murder Eggman after he tortured raped and murdered his wife was the perfect ending to a Sonic game. 10/10 Undisputed Masterpiece

First things first: Sonic Adventure DX was a very good game for it's time, but it has not aged particularly well, I highly recommend installing BetterSADX, it fixes tons of optimisation issues and adds many options/features that were both removed from previous releases of the game and add several important quality of life changes.

When the Adventure series was new, I owned and played Sonic Adventure 2 first, so jumping into this undoubtably felt like a step backwards which is why it's taken me a very long time to give the game another try and to see it through to 130 Emblem completion, and I'm happy that I did. With thanks to the mod linked above, I have a new found appreciation for this game, definitely one of Sonic's best 3D titles, the graphics are nice and colourful for their time, control feels nice and responsive and the majority of the gameplay promises a good time. It's disappointing that they removed the Game Gear mini games from this port for whatever reason, though.

As with all of Sonic's 3D games, this one is not without it's flaws. There are only two things that really hinder the game for me, the first being that Sonic Adventure DX utilises hub Worlds. This is probably because I feel Sonic Adventure 2 handled level and mission progression better, but hub Worlds in a Sonic game are just not fun. From one mission to the next and individually picking the levels you want to play without having to go through hub Worlds to get there, that's the way to go for me, here it's just annoying and it's not always clear where you're supposed to go, they don't offer any benefits to the gameplay and are more of an inconvenience than anything else, but perhaps that's just me.

The second major problem, and I'm sure most people would agree, are BIG the Cat's stages. There is absolutely no reason for the fishing mechanic to have been included in this game, it would be forgivable if it wasn't so tedious and monotonous, but the fact that you _have_ to complete BIG's chapter to finish the game is just frustrating. I will never understand why they felt compelled to include it here (perhaps just promoting SEGA Bass Fishing?), no sense of accomplishment from completing these emblems, just a sigh of a relief that it's over.

This game is highly rated for a reason, it's good, but has not aged gracefully. For the absolutely ridiculously low price this game goes for in sales, along with the rest of Sonic's catalogue, this game offers a huge amount of content and your money would be well spent, but potentially only if you're a fan of the series. If you're new to this franchise, this game being a product of it's time would likely make it a poor place to start.

The game feels great in my honest opinion. the game is clunky yes, but it gives you a ton of freedom from its open maps and clunkiness. it lets you play in many playstyles, and lets you bend the rules too.

I feel that Sonic Team doesn't understand what fans mean by the newer games are clunky. They make a game like Sonic Forces, which is very clunky yes. But you can see that they didn't want it to be clunky, so they force you to play in one playstyle, and when you wan't to bend the rules, it punishes you. Sonic games can be clunky, but they need to give you freedom.

The first sonic game I played as a kid. It's still playable through the eyes of nostalgia, but keep in mind is has some clunky and sometimes bullshit mechanics or bugs if you're new to it. the stories in the game are also interesting enough to make me play through each one.

This is just my personal opinion, so take it with a grain of salt.

This game is one of the best 'modern Sonic' games as of now, and one that I've enjoyed completing several times in the past, still do right now. Keep in mind that you'll need BetterSADX to bring out its fullest potential, or else it might not look or function as appealing as it once did in the pre-Steam release.

Pros:
*6 Characters with 6 different playstyles to choose from, each having their own story mode (with 2 extras).
*An open world with three maps that you can't find in any other Sonic game.
*A great, memorable soundtrack, complete with each character having their unique theme song. (With different versions of each one.)
*Over 30 action stages total, excluding bosses and minigames. At least 15 of those are unique and not just the same stage played as another character.
*A handful of bosses and minigames, such as car racing or whack-a-sonic(mole)
*One of the most amazing storylines for the game's era. It only gets better the more you progress, and you get to experience the story from every character's perspective. It even helps you piece the puzzle together in order to learn of a proper chronological order.
*Just Chao Garden. I don't need to say more about that.
*Aside from the story and trials mode where you play the action stages, there's also a Missions mode that has you picking up tasks and performing them in the open world.
*You're not just playing the actual game. There's also 10 Sonic The Hedgehog (Game Gear) titles that you can enjoy as you collect more emblems!

And many other great features.

Cons:
*May have wonky voice acting.
*Some parts of the game you can glitch/clip at, for the better or the worse.
*Some of the boss fights are way too easy. (Especially Character vs. Character ones.)
*The game only has one difficulty option, though that is to be expected from a Sonic game.
*The Fishing system in this game is wonky, too. You'll have a bad time if it's your first time.
*Some camera issues get in the way when trying to speedrun levels, but I haven't tried playing on Free Camera to fix that.
