The original slender game was a sudden hit back then due to its really creepy atmosphere and the fact that it managed to create a succesful scary and tense gameplay without relyng too much on jumpscares but the first game was more of an indie with short production values that was a little more simple, Slender: The Arrival however is like doing the first game again but making it bigger and more polished, it may not have the impact the first game had but its still a pretty scary game, it develops and explore the slender lore deeper, its a bigger game and it still manages to create tension and be scary but not as effective as the first game did but its a cheap game and easy to get into and if youre someone looking for a terror game to feel some tension then this one is a good pick, its well-done, its atmosphere is effective and it doesn't overstay its welcome, so I do recommend it.

For Slender: The Arrival I feel like people might look at the Mostly Positive and think oh, it must be good.
It really isn’t.
THE PROS
- ean……the scribbled pencil drawings are still cool from the original creepypasta. I did like looking at those.
THE CONS
- llo Head Bob my old friend…..If you have ever wondered what it would feel like to play a game where it feels like your head is on a slinky that’s being shaken then ole Slendy got you covered. This is compounded in dark areas where you only have a flashlight area to look at and the beam is just doing arcs in front of you.
- ilure to proceed. I spent 30 minutes in the 2nd zone running in circles looking for an exit whilst avoiding Slenderman. It took me throwing my hands in the air and saying “fuck it just kill me” to trigger the cutscene to access the next level. JUST LET THAT AMAZING LEVEL DESIGN SINK IN. You had to get caught…..in a game that the whole raison d’etre is to stay alive and escape from Slenderman.....so that you could proceed in the game.
- ned gaming. This game feels like a can of miscellaneous assets with a Slenderman sticker slapped on the front. This could have literally been ANY horror jumpscare game. It isn’t even scary. It has taken all the great tension builders from the free Eight Pages game and thrown it all out the window. Shame.
- nderman. Expecting people to pay 10 bucks for this is ridiculous.
THE CONCLUSION
From Something Awful forum creepypasta to just something awful on Steam. This game is a dire disappointment. There are far better horror walking sims out there especially at this asking price. Don’t waste your time or your money.

2010 YouTube Rewind
Like everyone I grew up on YouTube watching all the new meme horror games come and go, Anmesia, SCP, Cry of Fear and of course.. Slender. Did manage to beat the original after many hours and only just bearly.
By the time this game came around I was very much burned out of the theme but 10 years later I'm ready to jump back in!
Playing this game is like taking a trip down memory lane... and not a good one. After the first intro level you are met with again... Collecting the 8 pages but the horror aspect that terrified me back them is somewhat lost on me now or perhaps I'm just even more dead inside.
The difficulty of this level (again.. the second level in the game... on Normal) is insane. However once you sort of learn the machanics of how to stop Slender for arggroing you it becomes somewhat possible.
The rest of the game is... fine. Some smaller levels with puzzles and some new enemy types to avoid.
Decent atmosphare and graphics while have aged are still... passable.
5.9/10
- Reasons to play this: Nostalgia

This sure was something (Spoilers ahead!)
(TL;DR: You can give it a chance when it gets on sale, it's a mild recommendation from me.)
To start with what I dislike about the game I can mention the story. Once you get it laid down upon you in chronological order (complete opposite of the way the game does) -AKA watching an explainer video- it's a detailed yet simple one. There's nothing wrong with a simple story as long as it's an effective one, but this felt just okay at best. They try to make it seem way more complicated and deep than it actually is by drip-feeding it to you in a cryptic and non-chronological order but it doesn't change the fact that it is indeed just decent and a simple one. In short it was pretty lackluster.
My other issue with the game is the core gameplay loop. Finding/collecting a certain number stuff while being chased down by the big boy himself (and some other things*) gets pretty repetetive and the jumpscare gets old after the third time so horror aspect of the game gets thrown out of the window early on which is bad since this is a horror themed walking simulator at the end. I don't know what I expected from a Slender Man game on this particular aspect but, I think things could've done better.
Game gets dark (in a literal sense). Illogically dark. And tries to use it as a game mechanic at a certain level. It was simply annoying. So, bad game design. And it gets easier and easier to get lost in the game both because it gets stupidly dark and when it isn't, everything on the screen looks the same because in most levels you have to navigate in similar looking places -it almost felt like they took a portion of a map they've built and expanded it a bunch, making it into a whole level- both indoors and outdoors and on top of all that, your quests are vague, and it just added to my confusion.
And just as a side note, there were some broken English in the texts here and there, while it was not much, it just caught my attention, but they were just minor issues, nothing more.
BUT. And as you can see, a big one, there are glimpses of brilliance here and there, so here are my positive thoughts about the game:
Soundtrack is well done. The track that plays when you start the game being my favorite, the others -albeit that they are not many- were also fitting and quality on their own. Same can be said about the sound design and I'm not talking about those low quality footsteps that seldomly play, actually everything else beyond those. In the level -at least I believe it was called- The Homestead, there were some areas where the tension got pretty high and all the praise goes to the overall sound design for that.
But much of my frustration comes from the aforementioned level. It infact is the level that uses darkness as a game mechanic -the chase in the corn/wheat field where you can barely see the road you are supposed to follow- but it is at the same time the level where they decided to up the ante on the horror aspect by using scares that don't rely on jumpscares -while you search for fuel in the maze-like cellar, you can see a shadowy figure stalking you at the corner of your eye for a second- so it ended up being the level that I liked and hated the most at the same time. A proper love-hate relationship at that.
Remember the asterisk? That other enemy/monster is named The Chaser and while you don't get to face -or rather run away from- it too much, enemy variety is always welcomed since like I mentioned Slendy and his antics get old rather quick. It comes with a new game mechanic and while it chases you down as it is mentioned in its' name, it becomes a fairly nerve wracking experience. While not being groundbraking, it was a nice change of pace (until Slendy himself comes and steals the show).
And on another point, while the graphics are not jaw-droppingly beatiful, some levels had quite awe inspiring vistas I can say, especially the at outdoors parts, for a game of this stature and it being almost 8 years old by the time I'm writing this review, it's honestly impressive.
So these were all my qualms and likes about the game. It's not much (apperantly took me 4 in-game hours to finish the campaign according to the game itself -I paused and did some irl stuff a number of times throughout my playtime, that's why it's ways higher than what the game says- so it's a short journey) but you can give it a chance when it's discounted (I can even go as far as to say you should only buy it on sale too), because when it does, it gets pretty cheap.

I must be the worst Slenderman player in the world,
8.5 hours on Slenderman... it took 8 and a half hours for me to beat the game on easy mode....
Why did it take me so long to beat the game? I have no idea. Many of my friends would come over at my house at once to try and help me beat the game but we always ended up without making any progress. The 8 pages and Genesis were by far the hardest levels for us. I also didn't search up any tutorials ( so I could feel satisfied by beating the game without help ) and I don't regret that even though to beat Genisis I had to draw a map so I could remember where everything was and it always mislead me. Overall I really enjoyed playing this game even though I didn't understand the story :D

Anyways...
Pros and Cons:
Pros:
* Really fun even after playing the game multiple times.
* Understandable tips on how to survive and defend.
* Achievements are not too hard.
* Story is neat.
* Genesis is nostalgic.
* A secret level I enjoy.
Cons:
* Not too much playtime.
* Slenderman slides.
* Easy to exploit the Fearless achievement.
* Genesis is basically a Slender: The Eight Pages remake.
Overall, 8/10. Worth beating the game.

Slender man
Just want someone to hold my hand
Sick and tired
Of being on my own
Every time
I drop by
Pewdiepie starts to scream and cry
Can't they see
I just want a friend!
Just 'cause I don't have a face
Doesn't mean
I should feel so out place
When i'm seen
I don't mean harm
I want love
To open up
BUT NO
They see me standing
And they run!
Slender Maaaaaaan!

And that is the main reason I love this game. It isn't gory, doesn't contain subject matters you don't want them to come across, it is just simple jump scares. He's 10 & like most 10 year olds is well into ghost stories and Slender Man. Basically the game will have you walking around dark scary places with just a flashlight trying to find something distributed about the level all the while looking over your shoulder. It is amazing how such a simple mechanic has you sweating and in suspense. There are only 4 or 5 levels but for its price its really reasonable.
If you have a child interested in horror you want to dip their feet in the gaming horror world I can't recommend this game enough as their first bike with training wheels.

Don't get me wrong. If you're looking for a game with a perpetually on-edge atmosphere, an implied plot heavy on horror, and some very nice-looking scenery, Slender: The Arrival has those things, too, and does them quite well. The story centers on Lauren, newly-arrived in town to help her childhood friend Kate sell her house. When she reaches the house, the front door is open, the windows are broken, the walls are covered with threatening graffiti, and Kate is nowhere to be found. Following the literal paper trail Kate left when she vanished, Lauren sets off into the dark forest, hoping to discover what's become of her friend.
The thing that makes this no-frills plot work so well is how subdued it is. There's a reoccurring theme of abduction, and it's framed so seriously it wouldn't feel out of place in a police procedural. Yeah, the culprit's a supernatural being, but having your child snatched from a few feet away from you in broad daylight or going to visit a friend only to find them missing from their visibly-rifled house are things that could otherwise happen exactly as presented. This ratchets up the tension in every chapter because instead of relying on “even if something bad isn't happening now, something bad might happen at any moment,” it goes for “even if something bad isn't happening to you, something bad is happening to someone, and there may be nothing you can do about it.”
But like I said, what I enjoyed most about The Arrival is how well it plays. A lot of games have tried the “find x randomly-placed items to proceed” formula, and most of the time it's as exciting as a grocery list, but Arrival avoids that nicely. The primary way it avoids that is the lack of backtracking. Locations may be randomized but you'll only need to visit them once to pick up what you need, and while you'll need to familiarize yourself with the territory to plot the best path through the level and might need to circle around if a stalker decides to guard an item, there's otherwise very little repetition. You don't have to dodge the same enemies in the same patterns, either; as you gather things, your stalkers will get stronger, faster, and smarter, forcing you to adapt with them. In Genesis, the environment even changes, becoming darker and foggier. This creates a feeling of progress other randomly-generated “scavenger hunts” are missing.
Furthermore, Lauren controls wonderfully. She's a believably limited protagonist, so you can't run her perpetually, move at max speed when she's injured, or fight back at all against supernatural creatures, but the controls are responsive and smooth, and there are plenty of ways to give yourself enough of an advantage to pull through, even on the highest difficulty setting. Bugs and bad RNG can happen, but they're unusual, and I didn't feel like the game was unfair, even on Hardcore (as a matter of fact, Hardcore wound up being my favorite setting). Throw these characters into some creepy levels designed to make them feel insignificant in their vastness, add a stalker or two (each with different tactics), and it makes for the most fun I've had with the game part of a survival horror game since I got to customize Fatal Frame's ghost-hunting camera.
Complaints? There is a bug that can happen if you change the game's aspect ratio to 2560 x 1440 (and perhaps some others; I was only able to trigger it on this one, though) and then try to play the Homestead chapter; the game crashed so hard during the chapel chase sequence I had to restart the computer, and it kept crashing there until I changed the aspect ratio back to the 1280 x 720 default, after which I could finish the level. Also, one of the stalkers, the Chaser, has a bit of a funky hurtbox; she works fine if you encounter her head-on, but if she comes at you from the side, she suddenly gains telekinetic Sith Lord powers that let her clothesline you from eight feet away, something not even Slenderman can do. That said, she usually attacks head-on, so this is much more minor than it sounds. And speaking of minor complaints, considering how different the three stalkers are, and how well Slenderman and the Chaser worked together in the Abyss chapter, I was a little disappointed there was never a chapter where you had to avoid all three.
Still, if you want a ghostly horror game with an intense plot, a suspenseful atmosphere, and creepy, disorienting levels, that's this game; and if you want a virtual dead man's bluff that plays great and pits you against some worthy opponents without the backtracking and mindless repetition that's hindered other takes on the same subject, that's also this game. Recommended.

The jumpscares definitely overstay their welcome but they do not reach that point where they are outright annoying and insulting. The game shines in atmosphere, environment design and sound design, it really didn't have to rely on making you jump so much, the buildup is creepy as hell as it is.
The length of the game really made me wish for more, it lasts 2 hours at best, but you'll probably end up beating it in even less time.
All in all, very decent horror that fell short because it was too short.
Irony
Still recommend it though, it may be short but the difficulty settings and collectibles will keep you coming back for more.
