Apart from that, this pass wrecked the main game as well, Deforestation goes backward and AI crazy science bias is present when all modes are off. Bugfixing was very lacking and superslow throughout the whole cycle of Civ VI, and when they had finally patched it to somewhat approaching acceptable, they went and released NFP which reinfested the game with crippling bugs. No.
I will not buy another game from Firaxis, if they leave Civ VI like this. 0 interest in Civ VII in such case.

My personal favorites are the Monopolies & Corporations, Secret Societies, and the Heroes & Legends modes. I have these on just about every game.
Nearly all the new civs added offer strong and advanced gameplay options.

If you really want the content included in the pass, I would rather recommend getting the anthology edition instead. You get everything that is included in the New Frontier Pass and more.
You should still wait for a sale before buying it though.

New game modes - useless and a clown circus.
Just a bunch of new civilizations :( Which you could have bought one by one if you wanted any of them.
This isnt an expansion pack, just some new civilizations/leaders. Can't believe how they can want so much money for this at full price. ONLY BUY AT A HUGE DISCOUNT, AND ONLY IF YOU WANT NEW CIVS.

The Civs are okay for the most part except that the AI isn't programmed to take advantage of any of their mechanics or bonuses at all, but if you don't care about that then it's okay as they're fun to play as.
Still, a handful of civs is really not worth the exhorbitant asking price for this DLC.

There have been some complaints such as:
I got the frontier expansion and lost all my saves!
This happened to me and as far as I know every frontier user, and while that does suck if you are in the middle of a game, here is an important question: When will I ever revisit old saves? For me its close to never, I have only ever revisited two saves in my over 600 hours of play, so this is largely a nonissue.
The game is less technically stable!
Experiences with this have varied greatly from player to player, for me the game itself runs as good as always, but the menus have been sluggish and unstable, and exiting the game usually ends with a non responding prompt. This is annoying, but performance has been weaker ever since the launcher change to 2k, and I can agree, while it isn't a massive deal, it has tarnished the experience a little bit.
I wish they added more all new features like in the other two expansions!
I can agree that they could have fixed certain AI issues, however what I ask these people is what more could they have added without absolutely flooding the game to the point where it is so complex that it is painful. I think what they built in the gamemodes was better than creating a new full rule set, because it grants more player opportunity without forcing them into a new way of playing, as what already exists is fine as is and it doesn't need a full overhaul.
I wish they added more wonders!
Yes, 2 (even though they are now vanilla) where added during the development cycle of this pass, and yeah the statue of zeus is completely worthless no matter what. However it is also important to understand that there isn't much left to add in terms of wonders, heck the Biosphere literally had to be based on a world fair expo and not even a real functional structure. So I wish for more but I understand that it is hard to come up with anything at this stage.
This isn't a perfect expansion by any means, and neither was Rise and Fall for that matter, but like the previously mentioned, it has permanently changed the game for the better. The performance in the menus is the only real gripe I have with this expansion, and many players are seeing these issues and completely devaluing all the great additions in this pass.

Below I'll provide a quick description for each civ and game mode.
Maya: Science focused civ focused on building cities around the capital. Fairly balanced and fun to play.
Gran Colombia: Overpowered pure domination civ.
Ethiopia: Ridiculously powerful faith civ.
Byzantium: Interesting faith and domination civ. Fun playstyle that allows you to easily convert cities while conquering them.
Gaul: Production based civ with some unique district placement rules.
Babylon: Completely changes how you play the game. Eurekas provide the full tech, but -50% science. Very fun to play, but another whole level of overpowered.
Vietnam: Strong defensive civ with unique district placement. The most balanced civ in the pass.
Kublai Khan: You can play as him with either China or Mongolia, but his bonus is worse than both Qin and Genghis. Weakest civ of the pass.
Portugal: Overpowered economic civ that is only limited by the fact that his international trade routes can only be water-based.
Persona Packs: The pass also comes with persona packs for Teddy and Catherine. Rough Rider Teddy gives America a more domination focus, while Bull Moose has a culture and tile appeal focus. Catherine's persona gives you the choice between a more culture or espionage focus.
Apocalypse Mode: Not very impactful. Natural disasters occur more often and you can spawn them with the Soothsayer. The actual apocalypse, however, happens so late into the game that most of the time you wont experience it. The only thing it provides is a fun little deadline to encourage you to win the game before the asteroids arrive. The funnest thing about the gamemode is using the Soothsayer to cause natural disasters on enemy cities.
Secret Societies: Provides a lot of powerful bonuses via societies that act as nation wide governors. Really offers a lot of different ways to play and things to try out.
Dramatic Ages: Makes ages actually relevant but a little too dramatic. Getting a dark age in the classical era can ruin your game. The thing that makes it too extreme is that they got rid of normal ages. As long as you survive past the classical era it is a lot of fun and very challenging.
Heroes and Legends: Adds heroes from mythology that you can recruit. Strong in war or just fighting barbarians. Feels like a perfect fit for civ 6.
Monopolies and Corporations: This one could be always left on. It lets you turn your resources into industries then corporations which give big % bonuses to cities.
Zombie Defense Mode: Disappointing choice for the last game mode. Zombies are weak and only serve as a minor annoyance. It may be a bit more hectic in multiplayer though if players would actually try to spawn lots of zombies using the city projects.
Other Content:
City States - more variety
Great People - more variety
Wonders - 4 new ones
Diplomatic Quarter - espionage/influence focused district that changes up the city state game.
Preserve - Appeal based district that allows you to make tiles powerful without improving them. Feels like a good addition that makes tile appeal more meaningful.
Forest Fires - It's cool watching them spread around and the temporary damage they cause eventually rewards you with higher yields.
Meteor Showers - Gives you a cavalry unit when you land on it. Doesn't make sense, but exciting to find.
Soundtrack - Beautiful soundtrack. It just keeps getting better and better with every DLC.
The New Frontier Pass was a wild ride that made 2020 suck a little less. It might not be what everyone is looking for, but if you are a hardcore fan or simply want to mix it up, give the pass a try.

The two bugs I've hit permanently wreck your longplay games. But only after 200 turns and 8+ hours of game time. Gameplay workarounds, reloading saves, restarting, driver patching, and editing save files do not recover your savefile.
I've hit two different bugs... in my only two New Frontier games. So wow, Firaxis, way to bat 000. Civ6 ran flawlessly before this expansion.
Bug 1: When the AI moves its heroes around Turn 205, the game hard crashes to the desktop.
Bug 2: Around turn 225, all districts show 999+ turns to complete.
(Link: https://www.reddit.com/r/civ/comments/lvwqtq/999_turns_to_complete_a_district_why_is_this/)
It's like QA just stopped trying half-way through.
And 2k support? Buhahahaahahahahahaha. They're going to ask me to reinstall Windows next.
On sale, if it worked, this is a fun expansion at $20 price point:
- Intriguing game modes, which can be mixed-and-matched (i.e, 5 on, 2 off) to provide a lot of variety for accomplished civ 6 players.
- More civs, leaders, wonders, game customization options, and quality-of-life features
But it doesn't work.
Shame on you, Firaxis! Shame on you!

I feel completely scammed...
Since when does a SEASON PASS not include the main DLCs?

The whole pass feels more like a quantity over quality approach they really should have had fewer modes but given them more depth, art and testing. Pandemic probably did not help but if so they should have delayed or scaled back their plans.
I foolishly gobbled up this pass as I mostly enjoyed Gathering Storm and Rise and Fall but now in hindsight this has been a poor load of content and I will be more cautious with this series in the future.

The short answer is: yes, it is.
Basically what they have done is to add another expansion to the game and just spread the content out. At first I thought the new game modes would not be interesting or in the same vein as the Battle Royal mode that never appealed to me. But they are not. They are actually quite cool and you can even customize your game with multiple of these activated at the same time or just pick the ones you like. I find the secret societies and the heroic modes enjoyable, so I tend to use them as standard for my games now.
That means that I am actually using a lot more of the content in this season pass that I thought I would. I still think it is a bit too much to ask for the full price of an expansion up front, but with these days with early accesses and development diaries etc. it is probably something we will have to endure.
I would have downvoted this in March last year, but the fact is that the game has given me renewed interest and many more hours put into it, so that is why I waited with my review until I could see a bit more of what it was all about.

I have enjoyed The New Frontier Pass so far. The Maya and Gran Colombia pack is Really good value adding a high amount of content for 1 pack out of six, the apocalypse game mode isn't very unique and is basically just disaster intensity 5, however the resources and disasters added in the pack can not be ignored. The Ethiopia pack is also good value, The Secret Societies game mode adds lots of new content and puts more of a twist than perhaps any of the other game modes although I haven't played that much of this game mode. The Catherine De Medici and Teddy Roosevelt persona packs are fun Adding unique new experience for two base game leaders. The Byzantium and Gaul pack was really fun the Dramatic ages game mode seems to have had the least effort put into it not to say that it wasn't enjoyable and there was little else the Developers couldn't really do much more with the the game mode. The Babylon is very enjoyable I want to note the Babylon Civilization it is one of the most unique Civilizations in the whole series not just Civ VI, for anyone who doesn't know their ability results in Eureka s providing a full technology however they generate 50% less science this undeniably puts a fun twist on the game, the first game I played as Babylon might be my favourite game of Civ in 2020. Furthermore to the Babylon pack the Heroes and Legends game mode is very fun with lots of work put into it but very unbalanced the Heroes are like GDRs of the Early game without the very high production and maintenance cost and with the bonus abilities of a Great General, without the unbalance it would be a very fun game mode. I would like to comment on the stability, I have never experienced any Civ Vi crashes before the Frontier pass but I have received a lot of crashes recently so I would recommend saving frequently.
This is my ranking of each part Note my ranking is my opinion while I have kept the rest of the review mostly based in fact:
Maya and Gran Colombia pack: 6/10
Ethiopia pack: 8/10
Byzantium and Gaul pack: 5/10
Babylon pack: 9/10
Overall I think if you play lots of Civ 6 like I do this pack is worth your money, if not I Would say pass on the New Frontier Pass until it goes on a good sale, if you are completely new to the game it isn't a great addition to your first Civ 6 experience. My thoughts so far are positive but not as good as Rise and Fall or Gathering Storm DLCs

On the other hand, there is a lot of content. 8 new civilizations, 9 new leaders, 6 new game modes, more wonders, city states, and more? It's pretty loaded. If they had charged 5 bucks for each individual pack's leaders/civs? No one would have had a problem with it...and that would be 30 dollars right there. 6 new game modes for ten bucks would have be likewise acceptable....so the price point is neither unfair or bad. The issue is that it's not modular. You don't get to pick and choose what you want and spend less; you get a lot of content, which you may or may not care about...and that might sit wrong with some. Especially during a pandemic, when cash is tight for a lot of people; Firaxis is making this a needless hardship for a lot of people by forcing a 40 dollar price tag on a needlessly bundled pile of content.
Criticisms aside, there is more good then bad. It adds a lot to an already robust campaign. You are well within your rights to balk at this and call it nonsense. It's not an automatic problem, however, and it is worthwhile for most players.

Ultimately Civ is one of my favorite game series' of all time, and I don't know if I'll ever complain about having too much of it. So asterisk-- my review is very biased as I am a Civ fanboy, but if you look at the sheer amount of content we are getting in total with this pack, I personally think it is well worth the cost of admission.

I was initially hesitant to purchase the New Frontiers expansion/season pass, as although I’ve immensely enjoyed the base game and previous expansions, a number of underlying issues (including the lackluster AI) still remain to be addressed. Nevertheless, I picked up the pass on a minor sale, and have found it to be well-worth the investment thus far.
The new civilizations are about what would be expected, with Ethiopia taking the forefront as the most interesting addition. The “apocalypse” mode is entertaining for those who enjoy playing with catastrophic disasters, although the manner in which the soothsayers function allows for the gaming and abuse of the system.
The “secret societies” mode is perhaps the best addition to the game provided by the New Frontiers pass. While the concept and functionality are both excellent, the mode could be expanded upon in several ways. Additional societies should be implemented, including some of which would be exclusive to various cultures or regions and some of which would be more difficult to meet at all. Furthermore, a way to combat societies could open a number of doors for “shadow wars.”
Overall, the New Frontiers pass is on the right track, and looks to further deepen an already immense game.

These guys make a fantastic game and excellent content over time. Saw some guy complain about not wanting to spent $170 dollars for multiple expansions of CIV VI, but he had 2,000 hours in the game. That's a $0.085 cents an hour. Even if you only play CIV VI for 20 hours that's under $8.5 an hour. Compare that to movie night out's cost.
Video games are so worth the cost for entertainment - and this is one of or the best city developer/turn based games out there.
I've enjoyed every game and DLC content these guys have pushed. SUPPORT THE DEVELOPERS!

Since when did Civilization become a sci fi game? I am not amused by the end of the world scenario.
There is better content in MODS. Now most mods are broken.
Going back to CIV 5. It was not broken and worked perfectly. No issues ever.
CIV 6 is a hot mess. I have all the DLC, I buy everything CIV. I feel like a loser fan boy.

Apocalypse Mode is a blast, especially in multiplayer when you're both just trying to hope that neither of your cities is getting destroyed by a comet. That being said, there are many natural disasters that I'd still like to see added, and if a comet hit a planet, it would destroy more than a few tiles (also, climate change wouldn't cause comets to hit the planet).
We'll see what else comes out in the future releases. I'm not big on the secret societies and I don't I really care for the new civs announced thus far. It's certainly a risk to buy into things before all the content has been made public, but, what the heck, COVID has me stuck at home anyway. #onemoreturn

It wasn't even lauched on April 1st to be a joke.
Already asked for a refund. This is the worst expansion I ever played, even worse than the EA money grubbing.
Colombia, a copy of Brazil civ, even the same gestures, the same stupid gestures, Maya, a plain copy of nubia.
The new game mode, a joke, is a copy of a disaster mod that is avaliable for free.
Don`t waste your time, money or storage space with this. This is fireaxis and 2k going the route that stupid EA gone (and is a bad thing).
They should post at least an public apology for this trash they call a DLC.
