Klasse!

Was wollen die Leute heutzutage?

Time. Event. Am besten eine ganze Tonne davon. Und Explosionen. Und Bullet Time.

Ich will keinen Verriss zu Sherlock Holmes: The Devil's Daughter schreiben.

- schlechte Dialoge
- unverständliche Rätsel, teilweise Trial and Error nötig
- nervige Rahmenhandlung

I don't usually write game reviews, but this game had me so disappointed I couldn't help myself.

After masterful Crimes and Punishments I really had high hopes for this one, but apparently Frogwares took all the wrong lessons from the success of the previous entry in the franchise. Few things make sense in this one - Holmes and Watson have been made much younger and edgy, but somehow still this is a direct sequel to the story of the previous games? And a reboot? At the same time? They clearly tried to make the game resemble the Guy Ritchie movies even more, but it turned out cringe more than anything else.

The amount of cases to solve has been reduced from the last game and they are not nearly as satisfying or well thought through as in C&P. The resolution is almost always painfully obvious or straight up doesn't make any sense. Important clues are being ignored when it's inconvenient
(what in the hell happened with the steel statues?)
and some conclusions are reached in ridiculous ways
(there's a whole sequence in a South American Mayan temple, except Holmes didn't travel there but just imagined the whole thing along with puzzles and cliche action sequences inside like escaping a huge boulder Indiana Jones style. All based on seeing a miniature model of the outside of the temple. The whole thing didn't make any sense at all.)
This game was clearly intended to be more fast paced and action oriented, but the series really did not need a change of pace and the end result is just a shoehorned series of QTE's and tedious stealth segments which don't fit the atmosphere of the game at all and are a bother to go through. You get the option to skip all of them, but if you want to get achievements, play on a higher difficulty level or simply play the whole game you paid for you're for the most part stuck with them.

The advertised 'whole districts of London to explore' are for the most part just empty mazes of streets which seem lively at first with a lot of NPC's doing various tasks, but quickly lead to a realization they're all static and there is nothing to interact with except street name tags and closed doors giving generic responses. They only serve as a buffer to slow down the player getting to the next objective or as a backdrop to another inevitable action sequence. The only exception is Baker Street area which has a few references to older games and pointless mini games scattered around

The game definitely had it's moments - I enjoyed
faking an exorcism
or seeing
the irony of Sherlock getting annoyed by Orson's ego or him quoting the original works of sir Arthur Conan Doyle
, but even then it didn't really feel like a Sherlock Holmes game, more like a parody of it.

All in all the experience was highly disappointing, especially compared to the previous entry in the series. Gameplay is a huge downgrade, so is the story and the characters. Even graphics took a downturn with character models being less detailed even though they apparently upgraded to a new engine.
The new Holmes and Watson are cringeworthy and the forced in minigames are so bothersome they make the game barely playable. It really does feel like the series peaked with Crimes and Punishments.

An excellent and exciting Sherlock Holmes adventure from Frogwares.
The player is waiting for several stories that at first glance are not connected in any way - but as soon as you dig deeper, everything takes on a completely different look.
The ability to customize the character - will help create Sherlock in the form of Robert Downey Jr! Interesting and sometimes difficult puzzles are mixed with action scenes - which do not let you get bored.
Nice graphics, a large research map, achievements and collectible cards - spice it all up with a good soundtrack and you'll get Sherlock Holmes: The Devil's Daughter.
I recommend this game for purchase and passing, to all lovers of puzzles and a good story!

gameplay wise this was probably the best game in the series thus far, everything was more fast paced and refined, but theres many flaws to point which make this one of the skippable games for me

first off the puzzles were not nearly as fun as they were in the awakened, jack the ripper, the testament, or crimes and punishments. some of them were just an unfair drag to get through while some of them were just not puzzles at all but terribly designed forced sequences (like the man with the rifle shooting at you in the forest near the end of the first case)

that being said, i did enjoy the majority of the four cases, but the entire alice charade was kinda cheesy and felt like something out of a bad 90s horror movie, seeing moriarty back as just a voice in holmes' head was cool tho

and speaking of holmes, his character was just off here, he wasnt the way he is usually written espeically in the older games whatsoever, and one of the useless mechanics was the semi open world, just a bare empty london, people standing frozen in one place and doors that you cant enter, no side activities to do or anything

i would defo skip this one if im playing through the series, to put it simply, it didnt offer much story wise and was just not fun to get through

I just bought this game because I just finished Sherlock Holmes Chapter one and appreciated it very very much. I'm 78 and suffer from Essential Tremor. In most cases, this does not interfere seriously with my ability to play even some pretty intense FPS and 3rd person games games, But in THIS game I cannot handle some of it's minigame requirements to coordinate mouse and keyboard. Fortunately, you can skip many of the minigames, so I did that a few times when they were unplayable (for me) or bloody boring (I'm talking about a series of different floors with dangerous tiles).

So with that said, YES, I recommend this game, and if you like this and haven't played Sherlock Holmes Chapter One by this same company, you owe yourself a treat - it's close to a masterpiece.

A fun detective game consisting of 5 cases where you investigate, combine clues and come to your own conclusions that may be right or wrong. The voice acting is good and the overarching story interesting enough to keep you going. The puzzles are mostly fun, though overall a bit too easy. The only thing that bothered me was that the stories and cases themselves were often wrapped up a bit too quickly and you jump from case to case without much of an overall conclusion or epilogue. Still a definite recommendation if you are a fan of investigative detective games!
1. giving a new reimagined of Moriarity
2. sherlock's design and look
3. the mixture of occult and crime (which is one of important asset of some story in the actual book tho)
4. interesting cases
5. sherlock's design
6. that case where he need to disguised as priest. the entire act was peak comedy
7. and sherlock's design (it is not really obvious how much of a fan i am to this version of holmes
Highly recommended but be warned, this game is a completely revamped of the Sherlock Holmes and Dr. Watson that we had known from previous games by Frogware. If you're looking for something refreshing, this is the game for you. Also recommended to play this game before starting Chapter One and Chapter One is a direct prequel to The Devil's Daughter.

The only problem i have with this game is one of the cases in my opinion have a confusing conclusion. Apart of that I would give this game 9 out of 10! The puzzles, the real-time actions system and storytelling are engaging. Voice acting also improved immensely, I have no issue except with one character.

It is a completely different kind of game which I had never played before.
You'll stand a chance to discover and solve remarkable crime Incidents, as a world greatest fictional detective Sherlock Holmes and his partner Dr. Watson. It's story is very impressive which set in London late 1800s. The game has it's very own techniques for its gameplay and it's linear world environment is well made. It makes you think yourself as a detective when
investigating through crime Incidents. If you intend to get such a detective experience then its really worth buying when its on sale.

Personal Review

I remember reading a lot of Sherlock Holmes books as a kid in fact i still have those books in my shelf XD not a huge fan of Sherlock Holmes but i definitely enjoyed the books. I haven't watched any movies or anything of course i barely watch movies XD anyways this was my first Sherlock Holmes game i'm not sure if i should be playing in some order but i dint feel like anything was missing when i played this game so it's safe to assume that there is no connection with the other Sherlock Holmes games but anyways i really enjoyed playing detective XD and man i can't wait to try out the rest of the games.

Game play Review

Ok so it took me around 12 hours to finish the game and i had to skip only 2 puzzles ( which i regret because i could've had all the steam achievements maybe ill get back to it and try to get those 2 puzzles done so i can have 100% achievements complete) and i must say everything in this game was well made. First of all there is a main story to the game which progresses as you play the 5 cases , 5th one being the last one and which is the final part of the main story. The game wasn't easy not that hard either you just have to pay attention to the details and come up with a solution. sometimes it can get frustrating because the puzzles can be hard and there are barely any hints on what to do whatsoever but it was really fun because each and every puzzle was very unique so it kept me engaged on trying to solve it. As for the story it was ok i have nothing to complain about considering this was my first Sherlock Holmes game. The game ran pretty well on my laptop which has a AMD Ryzen 7 and a GTX 1660 ti. i only had minor FPS drops when there were many people around in game ( maybe because i had the game running on max settings my poor laptop R.I.P. ) apart from that there were no issues bugs or whatsoever the game ran smooth and it never crashed. Oh and yea the graphics were really beautiful.

For People Who Are Looking To Buy This Game

Definitely recommend trying out this game if you are a Sherlock Holmes fan. The game price is fair for the experience you get but i recommend you buy it on sale as i did the same because it goes for like 75% off. Also yes this game is tough and you need to remember a lot of stuff if you are a busy person you are gonna have a hard time so yea i recommend making some time to play it ( 1 case takes like 1 or 2 hours max there are 5 cases so 10 hours and +2 hours you just fucking around so yes 12 hours roughly to complete the whole game ) or follow a guide ( don't do it coward ) Enjoy :)))))

Actually Alice Was Kinda Cute I Wanna Bang :)

Disclaimer: I have never played any Sherlock Holmes game before, so I have no baseline for them.

However, I must say, I have thoroughly enjoyed this particular game. The cases are well constructed and your deductions can be quite complicated and varied. There are multiple ways to deduce and implicate people and some deductions can be incorrect. The story is quite good as well, although the ending is lacking perhaps a final cutscene after credits, or something similar. The minigames are, in my opinion, quite varied and enjoyable, but if you don't like something, you can skip it (and perhaps that will cost you an achievement, if you even care about such stuff).

In any case, I enjoyed the game quite a lot, especially for the price! Next, I will play Crimes and Punishments and Chapter One, both seem to use similar mechanics, which I very much enjoyed.

Great atmosphere, nice graphics. I played this on hardest difficulty and got all achievements.

Works well with proton. I experienced stuttering while location was loading. I guess it is because my GPU have just 6GB of memory. I used vkBasalt with FakeHDR filter and sharpness 10 and it greatly improved picture quality without noticeable performance impact. With latest version of Proton that Steam offers everything worked well. Not a single crash and Alt+Tab minimized and paused game anytime.

Good detective games are a rare few. You either get good mysteries and terrible game mechanics/graphics, or vice versa. For the price point this game is at, it overdelivered.

Pros:
I really appreciate the overarching storyline and how each deduction felt consequential. There were many points in the game where I felt I needed to re-consider my evidence before making a conclusion because the game stresses your moral approach in each ending sequence. The game components (quick reaction, puzzle, etc.,) didn't feel repetitive and the cases were all unique and involved different atmospheres.

Cons:
The game started off with really smooth movement but then started to get clunky and lack fluency after the 2nd episode. I'm not sure if that's a client side problem, but it became so much more difficult to navigate around rooms by the end of the game.

Overall, I am going to be looking for more SH games to play from now on. :)

This game was a disappointment, and eventually I abandoned it.

The are some positives here: the cases are interesting, and the map is more open than the previous game (Crime and Punishment) allowing for a bit more exploration.

Unfortunately, there are a lot of problems. Apparently, the dev's main attempt at game improvement since C&P revolves around one concept: MORE! More minigames, more action sequences, more QTEs, much longer puzzles. As a result, many of the minigames and action sequences are long and tedious. The minigames can at least be skipped, but the action scenes cannot. Unfortunately, these don't rely on logic. They rely on repeated trial and error, and then memorising the right sequence of things to do. It's a memory game, not a logical one, and I hate it. Even the minigames that are fun at first long overstay their welcome.

In addition, the things that should have been improved were not: the faces are still wooden and lacking in animation; the voice acting is significantly worse than C&P (and it wasn't particularly good in the first place); and the deduction interface is still clunky.

The highest difficulty is not well-thought out. Adding a timer to everything or shortening the window to do a QTE is a lazy way to make things harder. For example, you can miss QTE prompts to challenge a suspect's statement since the QTE ends WHILE the suspect is still speaking. How are you supposed to know to challenge a lie if they don't even get to finish it??

Finally, for the love of god, a notice all devs: PLEASE let us disable vibration on controller. Many of us hate playing with it on, and it is obnoxious to force us to use it because you can't be arsed to include this in the settings.

Overall, I recommend against this game.

I loved the cases, the story, and most of the puzzles in this game, but the quick time events and other mini games were a little clunky, and felt a little micromanage-y at times. Mercifully, there is a Skip button for most of these. Overall, it was a really entertaining game!

Sherlock Holmes: The Devil's Daughter Review

Overview

Log In;

The game is based on classic Sherlock Holmes type cases, but in addition to these cases, it is also based on the effect of our new neighbor on our daughter. The game is made to examine the scenes in the case like the old games. By making comments about people, the solution of the case and decision making becomes easier. With these findings, you can convey them to the person during the interrogation or conversation. With each result you find, you draw a general conclusion, although the combined results can sometimes be misleading and sometimes you can reach wrong conclusions and take wrong decisions. After finishing each case, the game gives you the opportunity to choose what to do with the criminal you find. After completing the case completely, you can see how many clues you found and how many players made the same decisions as you.

Story Summary;

The game consists of 5 different cases in total. Each case contains separate achievements and the decision you make in one does not affect the other. In addition to these 5 cases, as we mentioned before, the personal events we experienced with our newly moved neighbor are also included in these cases and end in the last case. All cases also include mini games such as garden bowling.

Positive Sides of The Game;

~ The cases are gripping and keep you in the game.
~ Telling the arrival of Alice together with the cases both reduces the suffocation and can cause your ideas to change while making a decision.
~ Although the game is not superb in terms of graphics, it offers a very nice experience.
~ Some findings in the cases are very surprising and interesting.

Negative Aspects of The Game;

~ Animations are not made with care, you can sense the gap between animation and dialogue while playing.
~ Some puzzles are extremely boring and these cases can be unbearable due to minor bugs in the game.
~ There may be a delay when walking in the game and it can kill the fluency.
~ Some character models in the game are not well done.
~ Facial response animations are not made with care and create an ugly appearance in dialogs.

A Few Important Things;

~ The game offers you the opportunity to pass some puzzles, you cannot gain achievements when you pass some of these puzzles. In addition, since the game is based on puzzles, passing these puzzles can reduce the enjoyment of the game.
~ The conclusions of the characters in the game and the solutions of the puzzles are available on the internet. When you have difficulty with the puzzles, you can also check whether they are right or wrong after you are finished with the features of the people. But if you want a better experience, you can do it without looking.
~ Based on the economy, the game is a bit expensive without discounts. It would be better to buy it with discounts because the game is pretty cheap.

Thank you for reading my review to the end. I hope I could help you... :)

Its Sherlock Holmes what more can I say. Although it isn't as good as the previous 2 games, it holds it own when it comes to game-play and narrative. If you are a Sherlock Homes fan or if you like this genre of games it is a must play.

Note: Buy only during sale and not at full price as it leaves more to be desired at that price range.

Before I say anything else, I do recommend this game BUT WITH A HUGE CAVEAT:

In order to play this game you are going to have to edit several config files. So if you're going to buy it you should either be a tech whiz who knows how to do that or know someone who is willing to do so. Otherwise if you aren't able to do that, DO NOT BUY IT. It will be a waste of your money otherwise because this game is VERY broken as is and is very unplayable without doing some fiddling. It's not even an issue of compatibility, it just doesn't work vanilla.

I purchased this during a huge sale awhile ago without knowing that and when I tried to play, it was so laggy and stuttering I couldn't do anything. I don't even want to imagine how awful fight scenes or chase scenes would have been. Thankfully, my husband knows how to do that fancy computer stuff and after a good amount of time and he fixed it.

IF you are able to edit the files and once you get it all set to go then yes, I do recommend it. I would say there's a huge variety of puzzles and there's only a few you see the same one twice. It's a great blend of action, deduction, investigative work. It's the best Sherlock game I think I have played yet. It's identical to Crimes and Punishment in layout and gameplay - it's likely they took the same blueprint from that game and transposed it over this game, which to me is a good think. It's not just another Sherlock game then, it's actually connected (I haven't always seen all game do that) so you're familiar with the environment. There is also a story weaving between the cases with Sherlock and other people, you're not just solving cases and I really enjoy that. There are also several moments that made me question if I was making the right decision or accusation and one case had me staring at the screen for ten minutes with my own conscience trying to figure out what to do! I think that's awesome, I really got emotionally invested in even the minor characters.

The overall narrative is really intense and if you get invested in stories emotionally like I do, you're really going to get into this.

Some cons of this game, besides being broken from the beginning and having to edit the files in order to play:
It's not completely intuitive. I know it's meant to be difficult because it is a detective game but even on the normal setting, there were things that just weren't explained at all. I don't think I truly understood how lockpicks worked til about the fourth time I had to do it, and that's just one example. About halfthrough is when I finally figured out how everything in the game was supposed to work.

Lastly, if you can get the files editted and do want to play this game, you're going to enjoy it - but please buy it on sale. Steam might have dropped the price because I swear it was a forty dollar game when I got it. It seems to be 30 now, but even then. It only took me 13 hours to play it and I am not a good gamer by any means, I actually really struggled with some parts, so someone who is experienced could get through it faster. 30 bucks for a 13 hour game seems VERY steep.

So yes I do recommend it but with SO many conditions. A game this broken and this short shouldn't cost this much. A game shouldn't even be this broke out of the box to begin with. We shouldn't have to edit the files just to play it. Please Frogwares, fix your game! And bring the cost down.

Loved Crime and Punishments, but haven't really enjoyed this game at all.
1) The graphics are okay but the animations are terrible. Lines do not sync up with mouths at all and it doesn't seem like they tried.
2) I may be just a smoothbrained monkey for all I know, but the puzzles are incredibly unsatisfying and seem to be designed more to be annoying and run up playtime than to act as an actual puzzle. A section of the second case made me want to commit. It was that bad. The fact that you have a skip option for every puzzle should tell you something Frogwares.

I would highly recommend the first game, but maybe skip this one. I would give it a 2/5 at best so far. I want to like it but I don't.

While I'm rating this as negative, I wish Steam had this middle option between positive and negative. I think this game is pretty weak. It's definitely not terrible, it's still very enjoyable with a story line connecting all the cases but it's not as nice as it was supposed to be.

Performance wise, I had many bugs, my game kept crashing and I had a few issues with mini-games and I had to skip some.

Plot wise - there is an interesting plot connecting all the cases, starting with Prey Tell and ending with Fever Dreams. At the very end, you're anticipating the finish of the story, the ultimate ending, the reveal of the Devil's Daughter and the truth.

Cases wise - they are pretty bad. I enjoyed Prey Tell, except for those infuriating mini games that I will speak about in a moment. The whole idea of the story was great, I really liked the exploration and finding out the truth. A Study in Green is a worse version of Blood Bath, from Crimes and Punishments. Infamy is terrible and hard to understand, the Mary Sutherland case being the only positive. Chain Reaction is messy, it doesn't make much sense but it's still possible to do and Fever Dreams are a poorly-made conclusion of all the previous cases. It's not bad gameplay wise and the story line is nice but when we have to have an ending, summarising everything said before, it's hard not to be disappointed with what you receive.

Now, the mini games. There's a variety of them in each case and you absolutely need your mouse when you're playing some of them, otherwise you'll be forced to skip. Now, there is not much focus on the investigation part here, you have to play all those games to find out the truth. It's not about the way you think, it's about praying that hopefully this time your device won't lag and you won't have to replay the entire mini game. If you enjoy games that focus on you clicking the keys and running away, maybe you will like this game. I didn't.

A big plus for me in the Sherlock series is the deduction box, making it possible for you to choose what you think is the truth and what moral choice you will go with. But here, in most cases, many conclusions don't make sense, even the correct ones. I have always gathered all the possible clues, haven't skipped the necessary mini-games and got the correct conclusiong but 70% of the time it was just a guess.

The game is not bad but good is not a word I would use for it. It's really medium but it leaves you with no satisfaction after finishing, maybe just the relief that you're finally done. If you like Sherlock Holmes games, play Crimes and Punishments where all the good aspects of this game are developed and there's nothing bad to pinpoint.

Graphics are horrible to watch, for a game that supposedly came out only a few years ago.
Story & Gameplay are boring in comparison with other games of this genre.
Cut-Scenes are pre-rendered and not in the same resolution as your game, breaking the immersion. Your tasks just stop in the middle of nowhere and you don't know how to continue because you can't enter anything else.

As a mystery fan with very little familiarity with Sherlock Holmes, having only completed Crimes and Punishments prior, I very much did not like Devil's Daughter. While a graphical step up from its predecessor, the quality of the cases, story, and gameplay take a nosedive.

I don't know about you, but when I hear Sherlock Holmes, I think of complex mysteries solved eloquently. While I wasn't expecting something penned from Doyle himself, Devil's Daughter's story still blows. Most of the cases in the game have reasonably interesting premises bar the last, but have seemingly shoehorned in action sequences, absurdist visualization sequences, or missing elements that create bizarre jumps in the story. The Devil's Daughter storyline, the very namesake of the game, also left me a little dumbfounded with its series of events.

If you wanted to play a great Holmes game, a great mystery game, or a great action game, it's not this one.

Been enjoying this game until I've found their latest update deletes our saves! There is the option to temporarily revert to the old version for 30 days to carry on from where we left off, or download their save games and continue from there. This is not an acceptable solution because their save states won't be the same as ours. This has never happened to me in any game before.

I got this for $1 while on sale so keep this in mind when reading my review. This is a great game, its fun, the world is beautiful, the voice acting is great, the puzzles and cases are fun. When people compare a game to another game its easy to say that one is better and one is worse, but when you look at a game for what it is, you start appreciating it for what it is.

The story of Devil's Daughter is kinda boring. I really enjoyed the cases despite their predictability and sometimes evidence not being clear enough to get the correct conclusion. The deductions and gathering evidence were really fun to do. Some of the puzzles were too easy, some were a bit challenging and some of them were just plain dumb and annoying. The game also sometimes decides to give you a puzzle to solve just for the sake of the puzzle being present. A good example of this is in the sewers where you have to solve a very easy but time consuming puzzle that is there because... Sherlock can't climb over a 50 centimeter hole in a ladder.

Voice acting of Sherlock and Watson is alright, although the rest of the cast is pretty meh. The game also offers several action sequences for some reason. I think they just don't belong in a game like this but fine, if they really wanted to put them in the game so much, they needed somewhat decent controls, which are not there. They're wonky and unresponsive with M+K.

Graphics are actually quite impressive considering the game was developed on UE3. Nice interiors and attention to details.

Overall, this is an enjoyable game even if you don't care for Sherlock Holmes or detective games in general. It was my first Frogwares Sherlock game and I'm definitely gonna check out the other ones.

Deduction is fine, but the riddles in game don't make any sense. I tried it million times, then went on YouTube for answers and everybody basically confirmed, that it isnt about a skill or deduction. There's no logic and really it has nothing to do with the story of Sherlock Holmes. This is not a Tomb raider.... I've been a big fan of Frogware's Sherlock Holmes games since playing Nemesis years ago. Everything I liked about that game - first person exploration with inventory puzzles and a few deeper puzzles where you actually had to figure things out using environmental clues - was generally improved upon with each release, right up until Testament. Then Crimes and Punishments came out and, for me, it was a step in the wrong direction, with the thought board (or whatever dippy name they gave it) replacing many of the usual puzzles. Lots of people liked it, I have no idea why, but if you're one of them, fair enough. Personally, I found it drew specific connections between clues where there were myriad possibilities that the game ignored, then forced you into a binary choice that only made sense in the minds of the developers. I got through it, it was fine, but not as enjoyable as previous games. Now there's this, DD, and all it does it take more steps back into the realm of action games. Not what I want from a Sherlock Holmes game in any way. It's not that these sections are necessarily difficult - to be fair, I've only made it as far as the first one in the swamp and, after several attempts at slowly wading through to find the right path, I just got so bored I uninstalled the game. Dismal. Not a true puzzler, and it does nothing for the legacy of Sherlock Holmes. It can hardly be called an 'action' section anyway, because it's soooo slow and repetitive it makes Last of the Summer Wine's bath tub scene look like The Fast and The Furious. Seriously, Frogware, what have you done?

The main character has nothing to do with Sherlock Holmes. It's like an american, good looking and caring father version of himself. Completely different from Conan Doyle's version. The final chapter is pretty bad, the girl Kate isn't well developed. Background story felt poor, but I think it has to do with the difference between real Sherlock and this strange guy. It was a miss to change so much the original character. The game was full of minipuzzles that didn't add anything to the cases, and lacking of real challenging puzzles.
Not a classical Sherlock Holmes game.

The game was very good. It was the first time I played one of the Sherlock Holmes series games. The game stories were very intriguing and mysterious to me and easily overwhelmed me in.

The gameplay is relatively good, except for some places where I had to travel long and repetitive journeys in vain to reach the turning point of the story, such as when you enter a temple to solve a riddle and find out the story and you have to do several riddles along the way. Have a dull time.

The music and the game environment are perfectly compatible and complement each other.

Great potential - sadly wasted.
Amazing visuals of old london. Great attention to detail. The system of putting together clues and deductions is sth i've never seen before and actually really good.
But, the problems are
1. a continuous overload of minigames. they destroy immersion, cause they make you aware of your mouse/keyboard controls, or puzzle minigames that to be honest have nothing to do with progression.
2. the magic temple in the middle of a sherlock holmes game almost made me uninstall.
3. the characters. omfg. almost all of them are written by imbeciles.
would you let an unknown man live in your apartment out of nowhere? no
would you tolerate someone who constantly sabotages you? no, unless you have a toddler's mentality
would you leave a family member with a satanist? that's insane
all of that is infuriating. a bunch of fairy-tale nonsense in a plot about murder cases. i could puke

Really fun little game, I enjoyed it! If you're into detective mysteries, I'd recommend it. The controls are a bit tetchy at times, e.g. balancing on beams and certain QTEs. I played on MnK though, maybe it's better suited to a controller. It wasn't a problem anyway, and didn't take away from the game for me. Very enjoyable!

Great game. Good balance of quicktime events and puzzles. I've never felt as tense as I did when trying to maintain balance on a narrow walkway :') but it's great that it works so effectively.

I'm glad I bought it at a 90% discount. 11 hours of playing is insane for the full price. But overall, I enjoyed the game and the story. I will definitely try other Sherlock parts.

Boring story and lots of ridiculous new mini-games, like balancing on logs. Hopefully the next installment will bring back more investigation and mystery over new meaningless mechanics.

The Devil’s Daughter is a pretty solid story about how Sherlock Holmes excels at everything except being a father. Although told in the tradition of Sir Arthur Conan Doyle’s novels, it’s a bit of a departure from the classic tales. The game is broken up into five investigation cases that are initially quite interesting and provocative, but sometimes end up a little borderline ludicrous. I enjoyed them, for the most part. I would argue that the ending to the second case is… bad. Nonsensical, doesn’t suit Sherlock Holmes. Etc.

I think the game’s biggest strength is its environmental design. The visual presentation, especially of interiors, is beautiful. Everything is so impressively detailed and the world feels very real and lived in.

The voice work is very good, overall.

These are all of the positive things I have to say about the game. And I am giving the game a positive review because I personally enjoyed it, but to be honest, the negatives are overwhelming.

There are some animation issues, general jankiness, horrible framerate issues, long load times, and the strange problem of an offset cursor when playing in a 21:9 aspect ratio. I hit a point in the game when I could not pass a series of QTEs and had to switch to a 16:9 aspect ratio. Took me ages to even figure out what the issue was; haven’t run into this before.

My biggest complaint is gameplay. The game suffers from lack of identity. It couldn’t seem to decide between being a traditional slow-paced, cerebral point-and-click detective game, and being an action-packed Guy Ritchie’s ‘Sherlock’-inspired visual novel (in the style of a Telltale or David Cage game). As a result, both aspects suffer.

The game doesn’t do much to test your intelligence or give you any agency. Solving cases isn’t particularly challenging. It’s a bit rigid and hand-holdy at times. You cannot exit a location until you’ve found all clues, even if you’ve already figured everything out and have no need of any piddly inconsequential clue in the room you may have looked over. Puzzles aren’t challenging either and aren’t typically well-designed. Some are good, but for the most part it’s trial and error.

The point & click gameplay is broken up with the inclusion of godawful minigames. I appreciate the creativity but creativity isn’t good enough. A lot of them were a bit too gimmicky (a chimney sweeping minigame inside of a stealth minigame, where you gotta climb the chimney before the orphan dies? say what?) and most of them were really not fun and some were even frustrating. Pretty much all of them are skippable (I played about half, skipped the crummier ones), which makes me wonder how confident the devs felt about them.

Then the game tries to add action sequences anywhere it can. Too many scripted set pieces with QTEs. It honestly took me out of the game.

TL;DR terrible gameplay, good everything else. For me, this doesn’t break a game. For many it does.

Also, there’s a sewer level with a puzzle with levers and water levels and sh*t and like WTF dude why

This game has a lot of thing in its favor, bigger and better neighbourhoods, a more detailed world with amazing graphics, lots of mini-games and point-and-click actions but it sometimes feels rather lacking in some of the cases. My one nitpick is a scene where sherlock embarks in a mind expedition through a mayan temple, making deductions entirely off a miniature model of said temple and it frankly doesn't make much sense. Otherwise the ending is satisfactory and leaves you wanting for more.

Yikes, the old chara design of watson was better,
i don't know if its because of the guy ritchie movie and the bad serie sherlock (2010) who influence this game.... but i don't feel like it's sherlock holmes... clearly it was already the case with crime and punishement but with much more control on trying to be epic, now it's just plain stupid.

i'm glad they open up the street more like their previous games where you can visit the street, but everything feels wrong, the street is lifeless, the minigames tasteless... boring side quest (wiggins), QTE etc

will continue to play to see if its worst or better and edit this review, but for now crime and punishement is better.

Even though Devil’s Daughter is a decent game, it isn’t good as Crimes and Punishments. Great modelling and graphics turned to be a mediocre modelling while Watson, and Sherlock’s new style, looks unnecessarily modern. On the bright side, Watson isn’t a useless yes man anymore.
As for the gameplay, this game doesn’t feel like a puzzle/adventure game anymore, it feels like a quick time events game. Sadly, there aren’t many puzzles in the game and adding a lot of quick time events feels weird. Normally, it could have been a good thing but when you buy a Sherlock Holmes game, you expect something particular. Puzzle quality and originality isn’t good either. There are lots of trial and error in puzzles (Mayan ones) and Mayan calendar is plain annoying (There are many similar words which is the point of using the same glyphs). Honestly, I hated the second case. That case doesn’t make any sense and thinks itself as an Indiana Jones movie which was the thing I hated most at some parts of Crimes and Punishments. Sadly, developers thought adding more gameplay like that is a good idea. Other than that, you can’t change your observation which game doesn’t warn you about it, and making a mistake feels pretty annoying if you are completionist like me. However, there are some good additions (second half of the game) as the case variety. Those cases give you a fresh and fun experience with their unique playstyle. Lastly, they added streets to every place you can visit. You can travel and discover those places but adding this feature wasn’t really a good idea. They mostly used a copy paste approach for it and you won’t find anything new if you try to discover them. They only made me lose my interest.
Storywise, there are lots of plot holes and bad choices:
First of all, with the flashback first case is so obvious, you can figure it out the whole story pretty quickly which makes it boring. Other than that, there is a place that you need to disguise yourself as a doctor and that means you need to wear an apron while Watson standing with you in regular clothes. Apparently only Sherlock needs to wear an apron to be a doctor, since other doctors don’t care about it. Moreover, game doesn’t explain to you what happened in second case (with the statues). Additionally, there is a mini case from one of the Sherlock Holmes books and it makes zero sense. Client has different coloured boots which is supposed to show us she is myopic. I am myopic and astigmatic more than 25 years and only thing I can differentiate clearly without my glasses are colours. Furthermore, canonical choice of the case doesn’t make any sense either. She couldn’t understand her lover whom she talked for days and seen him from close distance was his father, not a hired guy. Of course, that is more logical(!) Sherlock’s daughter story is another bullshit. Sherlock knows that his neighbour is a cultist, she performs weird rituals for death, she knows his secret and blackmails him about it but he doesn’t care about it. He doesn’t even forbid his daughter to go to her place.
Still, this game is a decent one and it isn’t pricey. So, trying it isn’t a bad idea.

First of all my opinion is kinda biased towards this one, played this out of sheer nostalgia

Visuals looks good, has some cool slow mo sequences, Sherlock is kind of a badass (Has Skyrim Easter eggs too lmao) BUT the rest is just awful.Plot, cases, deductions and consequences are very mediocre and sometimes stupid - don't get me wrong like I said there are certain aspects of the game that really shines but sometimes I just can't help but wonder if Frogwares is evolving backwards.

Final Verdict : Has its moments although its not worth the full price.NOT AT ALL.Grab it on sale only if you absolutely want to (Like my dumbass self) otherwise just play Crimes and Punishments lol it's an overall better game

This game is great, I definitely suggest you buy it. Sherlock is a popular character in old movies in the style of crime and mystery, whose games, like the movie, are very popular with users. For those who are not familiar with this popular old character, This game is not like LA nore action and is completely without the use of tools. The story or gameplay of the game does not require special explanation because many people are familiar with the style of this game. For those who need a game that has a beautiful environment and scenes, this I definitely recommend you to buy the game and I will show you some examples of the beauties of this game below.

Summary of second case:
Sherlock Holmes explains to his kidnapped adoptive daughter that he doesn't want her to take piano lessons, then wins an ancient incan tv tray in a lawn bowling tournament, but when he stops by the next day, a man's been speared through the chest by a scooby doo villain. After a series of investigations, it becomes clear that the three members of a london archeologists' society club are the prime suspects. Investigating the club, he discovers the owner is deep in debt while also having the means and motive to carry it out- so, obviously, he's not the killer. After a series of puzzles mostly stolen from Myst games, Sherlock Holmes breaks into a foundry and discovers that the owner has reproduced clockwork-driven ancient incan terminators and thinks he's the chosen one. Naturally, this investigation has come to a dead end.

So next, Sherlock visits a man with one arm and two broken legs and ends up being assaulted by a crossbow ninja who disappears in a puff of smoke before Sherlock can get a good look at him. After going through his things, Sherlock Holmes discovers the missing piece to a scale model of the incan temple and returns to the club to reassemble it.

And then he ASTRAL PROJECTS INTO THE SCALE MODEL, which is actually bootleg french Tomb Raider.

After Indiana Jonesing my way through the tomb of Tecun Uman, Sherlock Holmes has his final brain blast and forms a clue-tumor that tells him this case has only one logical explanation: The curse of Tecun Uman is 100% real and he must destroy every statue in london if he's going to stop it. The statue gives me a terminator 2 thumbs up.

0% of people made the same choice and I stand by my decision.

Cool to act as a Sherlock, you can find all the clues or miss some, you have your own choices to make to close the cases - so your own deduction is at work here. Also even if you find the murdered there are some moral choices also to make, I won't tell what choices though :)

Have been a fan of this series for a while. Gaming experience overall is great.

Pros:
Story is good.
Scenes are well designed.
Good voice-acting.
You could decide the ending of the suspects. (Lock him up or leave him free)

Cons:
QTEs are a bit too quick.
Mini games are a bit too annoying. (There's option to skip if you want)
Camera control is a bit odd.
FRAMES DROP TO 25FPS EVERY D^MN CUT SCENE.
Frames dropping might happen sometimes. (Not to me tho)

P.S.: Buy it when it's discounted.

Ignore the metacritics who are game purists, this game is really fun, and one of my favourite games I've touched. Some of the puzzles are a little too hard (i.e. Aztec Temple near the end of that case) but this game is one I'd recommend to anyone. Definitely would wait until sale though, as it went from full price to about £3 last time.

I found it to be a shorter game but I did enjoy my time playing it through. *Most* of the puzzles were quite fun to figure out. Some of the actual results of cases weren't... the best in my opinion, but the final 2 were quite well done. But that is the only big flaw that comes to my mind. If you enjoy games of choice and puzzles like me this might be a fun game for you.

TDD stands out from other mystery games with its deduction mechanic, which leaves you to connect the pieces and come up with your own conclusion about each case. There are good and bad deductions, forcing you to think carefully before you make a snap decision.

However, this mechanic doesn’t make up for two major flaws with the game. First, you will quickly be driven insane by the linear progression of each investigation. While the game lets you loose for the conclusion, it holds your hand throughout the entire clue-gathering process. You have to do everything in a certain order and follow all the game’s strict rules. At one point I spent 20 minutes looking for the house of a person who might know more about the case, only to realize the game had completely removed that house so I wouldn’t go there. Investigations feel disingenious extremely unrewarding.

The biggest problem of all: Poor Writing. Conclusions make sense if you’re short-sighted, but when you think about the context of the case, they contradict themselves and make no sense at all. Some red herrings are absolutely ludicrous. Most frustrating of all are the ending scenes. After making your decision, you are given a 10 second cutscene and that’s it. You won’t get to see where the characters ended up. As someone who played two mystery games with excellent conclusions (Ace Attorney and Danganronpa) TDD feels lacking.

Overall, TDD has some potential, but problems with the writing are everywhere. If you truly like the mystery genre, you have better options.

The cases are interesting. The story is amazing. Just the character movement is not responsive most of the time. But that won't matter since this is a cinematic game. Gotta say that the clue collecting, and connecting feature is really interesting. I like that you can connect all of the clues and still end up with the wrong conclusion. It really makes me take a challenge and be part of the game.

DISCLAIMER: This is a full review, and NOT a first impressions review

Sherlock Homes: The Devil's Daughter is a game developed by Frogwares and published by Bigben Interactive and continues the Frogwares' Sherlock Holmes game franchise after Sherlock Holmes: Crimes and Punishments

After I played Crimes and Punishments, I immediately thought that the game was gonna be a benchmark for more and better Sherlock Holmes games to come and honestly, Frogwares and Bigben Interactive this time, have delivered with The Devil's Daughter, although they have taken a few steps back with this one...

The game is even more engaging, with even better mechanics of controlling the characters. There's even more scenarios where you have to use different characters, and a few addition of investigative modes, however, they do seem more clunkier than in Crimes and Punishments which is a shame

Having said that, the game is tad bit easier then Crimes and Punishments, whereby the puzzles are less complex and it is really more straightforwardly guided with more obvious hints and leads you where you should go. However, at the end of each cases, you will have to make a decision based on your collected clues and you would be shown the answers - don't be surprised if you get it wrong, because it can happen, and you would be able to continue as is

Whilst the puzzles are simpler, they make up for it with longer cases and stretched storyline, just nicely suited and not dragging it. The cases are all separated and are not connected to each other, but the fun of investigating is all the same

It makes me want more cases, more deaths and more things to investigate!

RECOMMENDED :)

Can't really recommend this game with its insanely high base price. Looks and feels like euro jank I would expect from the mid to late 2000's. Narratively fine at times, and not so much at other times with plot holes abound. Frustrating mechanics that don't always explain themselves and easy to get stuck not knowing what to do next. Still not that bad on discount though. Voice acting and overall presentation of the time period are pretty good.

Having started with the Sherlock Holmes series with this game, I feel as though this game was quite an enjoyable play, I found that the cases given were quite interesting and some of the resources were too. That being said, I do wish they made more use of those, such as the journals and analysis table, more than the silly mechanic used when eavesdropping. I also felt that the modes added on were not utilised to the best of their ability. But despite these mechanical faults, I do feel that the game does stay faithful to the idea and personality of Sherlock Holmes.

In addition, strolling through the old streets of London is amazing...

HIGHLY RECOMMENDED for any Sherlock fans!

Sherlock Holmes: The Devil's Daughter | April 19, 2020 | [★★★]

Full of intrigue, action and excitement, The Devil's Daughter is an immensely fun game. But, I just hated how you can skipped the Puzzles, even if you're playing as the most famous detective in the world. There might not be huge challenges to overcome, but it's still a very satisfying journey for every Sherlock Holmes fan.

The Cases you solve

In my 5,5 hour playtime I've solved 3 cases.
All three cases were as linear as it can get. The game make you find almost all of the clues. Hard to miss.
The cases aren't particularly bad. But the game almost solves them for you.
The cases may have a too big of van horror vibe for kids, but aren't challenging for an adult. In my opinion not suitable for anyone. I didn't feel big brain after solving them, because everything is so obvious. For example you sometimes can’t leave an area if you didn’t find all the clues.

The gameplay

The game is not buggy at all, accept some graphics issues but nothing big. The game plays very easy, and is made for an younger audience in my opinion. Lots of unchallenging, repetitive and nonsense mechanics are used throughout the game. Keeping 2 circles within a bigger circle with my mouse and keyboard, while the circles move is straight up trash, and has nothing to do with the game itself.

Conclusion

The game mechanics are made for kids, but the stories are too scary for kids. Beheaded people can be scary for them. The graphics are fine and the game it isn't buggy. I cannot enjoy this game, and wouldn’t recommend buying it. It doesn’t make you ah-ha! like for example the game her story does.

I definitely recommend this for a Sherlock fan!!

A really interesting game that lasts for hours. It has many puzzles that keep you constantly thinking. In addition it is positive that it has many chapters, so it is hard to get bored.

This game is very similar to crimes and punishment but just different story and also little bits added to the game play which requires lots of action (which I like, but it seems in some reviews, they say otherwise). The only downside is (this also applies to crimes and punishment) that you have to guess sometimes without solid evidence but maybe that is what makes the game better but just letting it out there before you guys buy it. I really liked it and recommend you guys buy it if you liked Sherlock Holmes: Crimes and Punishment

Really enjoyed it even though it differs from the previous Sherlock Holmes games, the puzzles where challenging and fun, the story was short but engaging. Overall a good experience as a fan of the series.

Anyways I preferably recommend this game to people who enjoy puzzles and riddles, cause the game is full of these along the way.

I feared this would be a bad game by the comments but they were wrong. The is just the game I was looking for. A mystery game that you could walk around and investigate, and I'm not an avid fan of Sherlock Holmes. I enjoyed the story and the puzzles in game.

I loved Frogwares Sherlock games until they started to go down a very bad path....I'm a huge Sherlock Holmes fan and Frogwares made some great games. Unfortunately people who love a mystery to solve in a relaxed atmosphere will not often like to have to run around performing fast-paced action sequences. Anywhere that the game requires running, jumping or avoiding bullets or obstacles was a big no-no for me, I do not play Sherlock Holmes to get frightened out of my wits.
I found all the action parts unpleasant and frustrating, I just want the mystery, please go back to that!
I recommend the game if you can skip the action or have someone handy who enjoys that kind of thing, but if you're on your own maybe best to avoid it.
