English: Very nice Serious Sam game, it 's a lot of fun to play. Anyone who has problems with the game as I stand with myself in running the game: MSVCR120.dll is missing on the computer. Here is a link which solves the problem https://de.fix4dll.com/msvcr120_dll and https://de.fix4dll.com/msvcp120_dll, then it should work if you copied it into the Serious Sam Bogus Detour folder.

Overall it's okay, with survival and modifier modes so you can get a bit more outside of the pretty short campaign, recommended on sale.

The different way to play as Sam from FPS to top down shooter comes a welcome addition.
The main levels are fun and detailed to explore, From early on in Egypt to late game on a space ship. The design of the levels are different on each world and the same environment never overstays it welcome due to timely shifts to complete different locations. The game doesn't have a mini-map which makes you pay attention in order to know where this one locked door was that you encountered a while back.
If you happened to forget one of those locations, don't worry since many of them are just optional but you really don't want to forget it because you want to know what else the game can throw your way.
So we come to the topic of guns. Rest assured almost all your favorite guns are here with a bunch of new ones. The guns are balanced quite well, you never get the feeling of having 3 or 4 favorite with the rest just kind of being there.
Gunplay is fun but movement is rather slow so spend some of those stars to upgrade Sam's movement speed first, you will be happy that you did.
The game has a few issues in my opinion. The biggest one being INVISIBLE MINES!!! they will only appear when you are really close to them and cant be shot unless they become visible.
It slows the game down a lot and I dreaded each time I saw the minefield sign appear.
Guns are great and Sam has a lot but when you are in a pinch and need to swap this specific gun to effectively deal with a situation that suddenly popped up. Going around the mouse wheel scrolling through 15+ guns can and will get you killed when you are being swarmed by enemy aliens which is a bummer.
Overall, its a good game with great gameplay, supported by an awesome soundtrack.
Serious Sam lovers ought to get it.
I feel that a different solution here is needed.

Pros:
- Excellent gameplay
- Tons of great weapons, old and new
- Loads of enemies on screen at once
- Great and challenging boss fights
- Plenty of mutators to keep replays fresh
- Gorgeous 2D pixel art
- Great soundtrack
- Huge sprawling levels with lots to explore
- Loads of secrets to find
- Tons of content and replay value even in the vanilla game
- Comes with a full game editor; maps, mods, you name it
- Splitscreen/online co-op and versus
Cons:
- Can get caught on things quite easily in tight areas
- Visually busy making it hard to avoid things at times
- Status effects can be a bit of a pain
- Destroying cores that spawn a load of enemies is very tedious
- Instakill spike traps really suck
- Minefields are a pain to deal with
- No quicksaves/manual saving, checkpoints only that are very spread out
- Respawning on death is a pain when you have to run for ages to get back to where you were
It's a shame the game sold so poorly when it's genuinely fantastic especially when it has some crazy creative marketing. I reckon with ports to consoles, Switch or heck even the PS Vita or Android could breathe more life into this game that deserved better.
It's not perfect but as far as hidden little indie gems and Serious Sam games go, it's a fantastic buy even at full price. Not only for Serious Sam fans but even those who just like top down shooters and aren't familiar with Serious Sam will get a good load of fun out of it. I'm excited to try out the editor to see what kind of crazy things I can make as it seems extremely robust as well as try out mods other people have made - I can see myself spend much more time with this for sure. I just hope I can encourage others to give it a try.

But was this game fun? Yes.
Did I drink a lot of wine whilst playing it? Yes.
Would I have ever finished it without Em solving the actual puzzles? Probably not.
Did I want to go binge watch 80s movies after listening to the epic sound track? Defintely.
Would recommend.
With friends.
and wine.

Pros:
+ Weapons are meaty and responsive, and while the game offers the usual Serious Sam roster of toys to play with the game offers weapons unique to its own roster. From stuff like Quake's railgun and lightning gun to flamethrowers, a weapon that fires saw blades, and even a slime gun.
+ I'm not one to talk about the visuals of a game as I feel they aren't as important as gameplay, however I must add that the sprite art is crisp and the animations are equally just as good.
+ Movement is very fluid with dodge rolling to avoid projectiles and a fairly swift movement speed so the game doesn't feel like it's padded out with long corridors to traverse. Backtracking isn't common, and if you do it's mostly to catch secrets you may have missed or weren't capable of accessing yet.
+ The bosses are probably some of the best I have experienced in a long time. Definitely better than Hammerwatch's bosses that's for certain. Nothing ever feels cheap, and the bosses remain challenging even on normal difficulty.
+ Secrets are well hidden and sometimes challenging to figure out, but never feel cheesy or unfair to the player. Achievements are the same.
+ The game features an arcade style live system, starting out with 3 lives at the beginning of each level. However, the game allows you to customize quite a lot about your campaign so you can make things easier by removing the live system altogether or making the game harder like dying in a single hit.
+ SSBD features a functioning workshop for modders to post singleplayer, survival, or multiplayer maps.
Cons:
- As previously mentioned the game is incredibly short with only two levels per stage and 4 stages in total. A short level that introduces you to the stage and the new enemies within it, and a longer second level that involves a lot of sprawled out key card hunting and eventually a final boss to conclude the stage.
- Due to the game's short experience there are only 4 bosses to fight which leaves a lot to be desired.
- This could just be a personal gripe, but I felt as if there could have been much more humorous dialogue, or exchanges between Sam and the A.I, or even with the bosses. Sam does shoot out a one-liner every now and then, but it's not as prominent as I believe it should be.
- The upgrade system is appreciated, but it's quite limited. For example there are set upgrades exclusively for the laser gun, dual pistols, and the two shotguns, with the pistols having the most upgrades (2 separate upgrades) and being the last weapon you would be using when you gain such a large roster of weapons. The other weapons in the game do not receive upgrades which is a missed opportunity to expand the upgrade system and provide more experimentation than there currently is.
- The Steam workshop is always a welcomed addition to a game, but sadly this is one of those games where there is simply no modding community developing content for it. A lot of the maps date back as recent as 2017, and there aren't many custom campaigns to play. This isn't necessarily at the fault of the game, just that the Steam workshop content would have helped extend the game's already short experience.
- The workshop provides no ability to make custom player models for co-op or multiplayer PVP.
Overall I recommend this game to everybody even at full price, and on sale I would argue it's a steal. It's a solid game, it just lacks a lot of content to lengthen it out. The gameplay is the game's Atlas as it holds the entire thing up, and if the gameplay wasn't satisfying and the guns weren't fun to shoot I probably wouldn't have enjoyed this anywhere near as much as I did. The crisp sprite art visuals also help a lot in its presentation. It's easily a 7/10 and would have been an 8 or 9 had the workshop content picked up.

But this game has too many problems for me to tolerate.
Landmines are everywhere, including along the critical path, and they are cloaked for some insipid reason. The interface takes up far too much room on the screen, and that includes the weapon wheel. The player speed is far too slow, especially for a twin stick shooter and definitely for a Serious Sam game. Cheap deaths happen far too often, and the enemy can react far too quickly to the player. Finally, getting locked in a tiny room filled with teleporting enemies that also has electric balls that prevent the player from dodge rolling or firing their guns is very annoying and cheap.

If top-down shooters that happen to feature Serious Sam, RPG elements, and Steam Workshop appeal to you, then Bogus Detour is well worth the investment.

The good:
- Even though this is a pixelated game, the graphics are really neat. The sight of a whole screen covered with explosions and guts of the aliens floating around is simply great. Gets absolutely extreme with multiple players.
- The game contains a rich variety of enemies. The bestiary includes enemies brought from each and every single SS game: Kleers, Gnaars, Biomechanoids, Kamikazes, orcs, Cucurbitos, Siribulls and others.
- The OST is awesome, it cleverly mimics the classic tracks of older Serious Sam songs.
- Level diversity is good enough. From Gall-damned Egypt to Turkey, then Greece and, finally, Moonbase.
- The game supports online Co-op up to 4 players and PvE + Survival with up to 12 bloody players each. Level editor is also an option.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
The bad:
- The 2-dimensional gameplay gets boring and monosyllabic quickly. It's a simplified version of the original SS, although it still is fairly hard when multiple types of enemies start raining hell down on you altogether.
- Gore system is totally crude. All regular enemies just fall apart, independent of what weapon you're using. Like, I'm not sure, if akimbo pistols can turn someone into a bloody mess in 2 shots, honestly. That takes away a lot of satisfaction that you should've had when killing alien scum.
- Some dev level design strokes are getting so repetitious throughout the gameplay they actually start bringing annoyance. Like the mine fields or transportation teleporters.
- Online is an absentee right now. The only lobby I found had just 1 player and even he had quit before long.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Conclusion:
I do recommend you to have a closer look at this game, either if you're a Serious Sam fan or have friends willing to play the game too OR both. The game is fairly priced and can deliver a good loads of fun for a good amount of time.
7/10
