RUGBY 20
https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=1981162746
Entwickler:
Die wahrscheinlich bekanntesten Spiele der Entwickler dürften „The Garfield Show: Threat of the Space Lasagna“, „How to Survive 1 und 2“ und „Handball 17“, sowie „Rugby 18“ sein.
https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=1981162798
https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=1981162916
Fazit:

The commentary has been so lazily put together. The sentences do not flow when the commentator is speaking, you can tell they have recorded a lot of words and put them together rather than having full sentences recorded.
The gameplay itself is so poor. The mechanics of throwing the ball are just terrible, very little control and it makes the game look like its an under 8's match on a rainy Sunday afternoon. The worst part, by a country mile, is the kicking. Taking a penalty or conversion is just awful. I think when they had the meeting about how the kicks should be worked it was 4pm Friday afternoon and they all wanted to get off early for the weekend.
Save yourself the time and money and just wait for someone to do a decent job at making a rugby game. Surely in this day and age with the talent in the world it shouldn't be this difficult to make a functioning and playable rugby game.

Onto the gameplay. It's dire, at best. There's no AI strategy - they are equally as likely to kick it when they're clean through as they are to score a try. The scrums are appauling; the bubble you're supposed to keep the circle in does appear on screen, similar to kicking power - and this is after trying every single resolution in the game. Tackling sometimes lacks, and the passing mechanic is downright dreadful - not a good system. The scrummy passes it forwards too high an amount. The positioning of your own players often results in them knocking the ball on, the shotgun position doesn't exist, the 10 channel has vanished, all things of the past, apparently. I cannot recommend buying this game until some of these are fixed, most importantly both the attacking AI, defensive AI, and the game fitting onto the screen.
The commentary is dreadful - incredibly repetitous, and just downright awful.
For the love of god, put some effort in lads. Please.

I'm only recommending this game if you buy it on a big sale and are very passionate about rugby. If you're not, it's a high red flagged NO.
Intro
I want to start by saying that the only reason someone would buy or recommend this game is that they're a huge fan of the sport and, driven by melancholy, they still miss the good old Rugby 08 days and search for modern alternatives and rosters as updated as possible. As we all know, this rugby games market is not that great overall and we have a very specific and narrow list of games to chose from. Some better than others. This is clearly better than others, so this is why I'll recommend it. I really want to believe that at some point the Rugby games by Eko would be the new 'gold standard' of Rugby games, as there is a lot of potential. However, at this point, while there is are some great improvements compared to Rugby 18 (and also some downgrades, which we'll discuss at the cons), it's still hard to recommend this game (especially at the price tag it's got).
PROS
- Game looks pretty decent. Player models look good, realistic, and graphically it seems like an improvement over 18.
- You have challenges to complete in order to get extra in game currency and XP.
- There is more depth added to strategies and tactics - now you can change them on the go and adjust some plays depending on the situation you're in. Mechanics are also better, a few new ones are implemented.
- It's a fun game overall. There are some championships to take part in, you can create and customize your own team (and you can actually do stuff with it, not only kick offs).
- Definitely some AI improvement over 18. They seem to be a little smarter and more efficient.
This is, unfortunately, where the pros kind of stop...
Cons
- Licensing for national squads is very poor compared to Rugby 18. You don't have the official kits and squads for New Zealand, South Africa, Australia, Argentina, England and the list goes on... This taken into account, the price of the game is very unjustified. If there were licensing costs to cover, I'd be understandable. This is a 15 EUR game at best.
- I've also tried to find a workaround for this - I really hoped that there would be an option in game that lets you chose which players of a specific nationality to play in that national squad (just like in FIFA, where you could edit the national squads), but didn't find a way to do so.
- Worst part of the above is that at the beginning of the year, there were a couple of people working on mods for this game and actually managed to update the kits and squads for various of the above teams. This all became unavailable since the 1.5 patch (which was back in March). Which leads me to the next point:
- Game seems to be as dead as it's community. Most interest for mods and updates ended about the same time as the official updates of the game, in March-April. It's kind of weird, to be honest. All patches up until that point were actually based on community based complaints/suggestions. It all just stopped and went silent, all of the sudden.
- Just like in Rugby 18, there is one viable tactic to use that seems much better than all others. Pass as much as possible until you reach a winger and hope that he reaches the finish line. Nothing else is as effective.
- Animations are very clunky at times, but my biggest complaint is that the game changes very drastically between very slow and fast. For example, if you're attacking in a 2v1 situation and see the defender coming for your player, you'll pass the ball to the open player (only logical). It takes A LOT of time for that pass to complete, totally in contrast with the speed of the action up until that point, all while the player receiving the ball almost stops, in order to receive the ball. This leads to the whole pitch catching up to you and your 2v1 led to nothing because you're suddenly tackled by 10 men (remember, you were only 2v1 with nothing else in sight).
- Another complaint would be that AI simply can't position itself properly, especially when you're attacking. Most of the time you have barely no support at all and what should've been a short and quick pass for the score, ended up as a whole ballet move for a slow and long pass to your closest open player.
- There was one thing that Rugby 18 did MUCH better than this game. Player purchasing in create a team mode, when you could just search for your favorite player, pay a certain amount of in game currency and have them in your team. This year they decided to change a perfectly functional mechanic. How? Do you know what casual players hated about FIFA the most? Exactly - booster packs. At least you don't pay real money for them (Yet. Let's see how the next game looks like), but it's still very grindy and really unnecessary. This was a huge let down for me and I think it's the only reason I'll play less of Rugby 20 compared to 18. If you're working full time and have better things to do than spend DAYS in this game to create your dream team, especially in a dead single player game, it's simply not worth it.
Conclusion
This would be a dream if it was more mod friendly. I, personally, could've gotten over the clunkiness of the game, over the AI and all that, as I know what the expectations should be for a rugby game, if it would at least let you do your own stuff. I'd highly recommend for future releases that at least a edit national squads option to be implemented, so you can select which people you'd want in your national squad, as a workaround for licensing. The booster thing also has to go - there was only one thing really fun about 18 and that's no more available.

It's not perfect and could do with more in the tutorial but by far the best rugby sim I've played (since Jonah Lomu rugby) and most importantly fun to play
[Update] Playing this more, the best part is that games are relatively short, makes it easy to jump in play a couple of games and then switch off. There's some rules that aren't applied properly.

You can really only play on the hardest difficulty setting, because anything less than that you'll win games 80-0 with no real competition. Playing on the hardest difficulty setting doesn't really make the game harder, it just makes your players stupid. They stand offside for no reason, just waiting to get a penalty. They knock the ball while they're kicking the ball off (seriously) and turn the ball over immediately.
The game is bugged beyond belief. A simple throw-in can sail across the entire pitch and across the opposite touch line for no reason. A grubber kick will bounce once off the ground and suddenly sail into the stands without warning. Sometime you'll score a try, but instead of getting points, a player will grab the ball and just t-pose in the in-goal area with no way to continue the game--you'll seriously need to quit out and simulate the remainder of the game. The announcers don't know which player has the ball or which team just scored.
Such a disappointment.

1. Despite being able to run Madden 19 on my PC at 1920x1080, this game still struggles at 1024x768.
2. Riddled with bugs, but it's a full release :-
a. Commentators have teams backwards most of the time.
b. Players are wrong, commentators call out the wrong name for who's scoring a try.
c. The AI make very bad decisions all the time like they do not know the rules. e.g. Kicking the ball straight out
outside the 22. bad kicking decisions like cross kicking from own goal line...
3. I see this game as falling very short of Jonah Lomu's rugby from 1997 despite this being 2020.
Requested a refund.

In the end you find yourself moving the ball to the wings making space there. You dont see real gaps appearing for you to attack and furthermore the passing is so slow that if such gaps exist its near impossible to exploit.
For people with next to no expectations Id suggest them the game but I guess more hardcore rugby fans are going to bounce off this quite quickly.

This game has the potential to be the ONLY rugby game on the market you can enjoy.
Good Points.
Updated teams.
Set plays.
Kicking mechanism is better.
Bad points.
Can never get an online match ( For so called 2020 Rugby game )
So many bugs i do not know were to start.
no structure to the career mode just feels boring bland and horrible.
Turn overs are stupid and no realistic.
Overall a total waste of money and not what i thought comes close to something worthy of a 2020 game.

Those who are unhappy with the lack of some teams should be aware that organisations like the RFU charge for rights, the players charge for rights also, The cost of gaining all the rights would be prohibitive .
The game play allows for the majority of actions to be performed, passing off the floor is rarely done during a game, Back door passes are not often trained for, as the success rate is low.
If you want to play real rugby may I suggest that those who don't, go and join a local club and try and see what happens, watching from the stands or on TV is not the same, Give it a go.

Some great bits, the game play feels rewarding to an extent, although this may be down to how challenging some aspects of the game are. For example actually scoring a try half the length of the pitch after stringing a few passes together is extremely rewarding. But, perhaps only because there seems to be a pass delay and off loading is actually 50/50. Conversions and pens are brilliant, scrums are challenging but a fun skill based concept exists. Line outs are great, although some delay tweaks needed. Tackling isn't amazing, but it works its simple and does the job well.
Some bad bits, STAMINA depletes far to quickly, especially for a winger like Jonny May. i don't expect to see him running out of gas after a 20 meter sprint... There needs to be a control layout in settings so we can actually see what buttons do what. Took my a while to work out how to drop goal... Plus i've no idea how ball skills work. It seems a small chance that you actually side step or spin anyone! Let alone doing it intentionally. It seems ball skills only work with good timing, although no tutorial on this. Maybe the control scheme would be to look at how FIFA or Rugby challenge works and use the same model in giving us freedom. In league mode it seems a massive B**** ache to rotate the team after every game just to keep stamina levels up.
Passing can be clunky, seems delayed. Hard to draw in players and pass due to the tackle animation stopping the pass chance.
Opportunity to change kit before matches in league and solo need to be added!
Player positioning in defence isn't ideal. The ai also doesn't make many tackles leaving you frantically changing players and mashing B.
Also the opposing team make far to many high tackles quite often when you're on a break.
Having said all that I have had fun! Although perhaps £30 is a bit much in its current state..
If you do buy it. Play the tutorials. It will give you a good feel for the mechanics of the game.

Look, it's not FIFA, but it's fun enough to play and worth $30 or so if you're a rugby fan. The My Squad mode gives you something fun to work towards.
I'd recommend giving it a shot. It's meant to be played realistically, so be sparing with the sprint button, earn the right to go wide with crash-ball forward play, and my god, do more than just pass left, left, left, get tackled, then pass right, right, right. Use all the new tactical options at your disposal--it's the biggest selling point of the game.

UPDATED FIRST LOOK REVIEW - Release Day
BIGBEN are a Promoter I admire because they deliver games that I Actually Want to See & they have been behind some of the Greatest Game releases in the last few years too;
o Dacar Rally,
o AO Tennis 2 (with all its faults),
o WRC 8 (an absolute Masterpiece).
BUT, they have also been involved in some of the worst games ever released, I'm of course talking about RUGBY 18.
THANKFULLY RUGBY 20 is huge leaps ahead of RUGBY 18 and a totally new approach, control system and mechanics lead RUGBY 20 into an unassailable lead over its predecessor.
Certainly RUBGY 20 does not appear to offer the perfect rugby experience, but I would argue that this is the direction the gaming community were PLEADING for & it certainly does do a great job of delivering a relatively Realistic RUGBY experience and sets a decent foundation where improvement WILL be needed and hopefully will come.
I have already changed this review from Not Recommended To Recommended and back again TWICE! So I really am on the fence here.
Developer reply below. Thanks Devs!
PROS
o NEW Mechanics – many of which I adore. Lineouts – Scrum – Tactics - Goal Kicking!
o Graphics are acceptable; Not much of an improvement over RUGBY 18 TBH, but lots of nice cut-scenes and animations.
o Tackling is pretty good in all honesty, I like it a lot (Area for enhancement but AOK as is).
o LEAGUE option is OK, I like how you can set a favourite and it auto defaults to it (NICE TOUCH).
o Some licensed players are really well recreated.
o Some BIG NASTY & Illegal Tackles + resulting Injuries (thank goodness!).
STUFF That's OK
o MY TEAM (Almost Career) - Similar to FIFA's UT, but without the micro-transaction BS.
o Gameplay I have had a game that was REALLY fun to play! So sometimes it all works (which is why I say it has the potential).
o Commentary - limited & stuttery but OK.
o I think I counted 10 stadiums, they're OK.
o Tutorials are ESSENTIAL in this game and what's there is good (some missing see below).
o League Mode - start from French Div 3 get promoted through the divisions.
o Challenges are NOT what they sound like (They are in-game weekly challenges) I was kind of expecting scenarios.
CONS
o Passing is SLOW & Laborious. Passes happen Really late.
o Slow gameplay, tackling seems a fast paced affair, but running, kicking and passing all seems too slow.
o Licensing - if there is Modding then OK this can be bypassed, but without it, it is a problem.
o No Single player career.
o Online MP just doesn't seem to work. I find a player, then sit waiting for that player endlessly...to do what? You already said player found?
o Audio - Just quite poor and audio is SO Important to immersion.
o Missing Tutorials. Tackling (when the circle around your feet appears) Kick-off.
CONCLUSION
Look this is a £30 game & for that sort of money I expect to be able to play happily for a long time & I am not sure this game is ready to deliver that.
Jonah Lomu Rugby was a game I played with my brothers over and over and over again, and if we had the chance we would probably play it today too, but this is NOT that game, it is nothing like that game.
I am glad that the game has received WAY MORE Depth & revised motion capture animations do make the game feel more authentic. Where this game REALLY delivers is on the Tactics & Set-Plays, `some` of the Mechanics (Tackling, Goal Kicking, lineouts etc..).
Sadly it lacks in the most important areas (Passing, Player Movements, Responsiveness, AI Intelligence), it evens says in the trailer you can pass before or after tackle contact (but not during & this IS another problem).
The issues in this game are not issues that cannot be resolved, a few tweaks to the arrangement of the algorithm & passes will be enacted when the player calls for them (not a second or two later) and the AI is something that will always be under constant scrutiny and tweaking.
It's probably the BEST Rugby UNION game available, ATM, but I wouldn't say it was the best Rugby game available ATM.
For me...Right now I do JUST about recommend this game...No I don't...Honestly I am RIGHT ON The FENCE!
With a FEW Tweaks and IMPROVEMENTS I do recommend this game...but it needs tweaking.
In all honesty I should NOT recommend the game, until these improvements have arrived, but I am so close to giving this a thumbs up!
The issues will annoy me too much, BUT I think (hope) they will be improved???
Dev's are you reading these? Can you confirm/deny?
This has the potential to be a great RUGBY game & I really hope they will improve the game. I will keep my eye on this one, and see what Patches updates and improvements they offer up in the next few months.
