https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=2971139237

https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=2971876512

https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=2969953886

So sehr enttäuscht.

Another absorbing experience from Piranha Bytes

Not quite as long as Gothic 3 or Elex, but still lots of fun to be had

Only criticisms are 2 particular boss fights are rather annoying because of all the adds they spawn but otherwise combat is that fun eurojank you've come to love and expect

Risen 3 is an enormous improvement compared to Risen 2. It brings back a lot of the unique area design present in Risen 1, combat is further improved, and magic plays a much larger role again. Some sections of the game drag on longer than they should, and the story can get a bit confusing at times, but fans of Risen 1 will see a lot of familiarity return here. Graphics are a fair bit nicer this time around and the controls are back to being serviceable for mouse & keyboard users. It's still not an outstanding RPG compared competing titles, but it's still a nice experience for those who want to try something different, or otherwise want to try something different.

I'll just play this casually, finished Risen 1, well almost, as an NPC bugged at the end quest, right before the fight with the Fire Titan, Risen 2 also Enjoyable after few hours in. But this Risen 3... ugh.... I dont even know where TF to begin, apart that its the worst in close combat, dialogue it's shallow with stupid responses options sometimes. Patty looks like some anime girl, almost brought in from a hentai. Bones has 2 voices at the beginning at least that's what happened to me don't know if it's a bug. As someone else said, you play as the brother of Patty for whatever fucking reason not explained. Also you have to search for teleportation stones and put them onto the locations as well, wasn't just enough to be as in Risen 2 after Discovering the location which is fkin annoying. If someone considers this best in the trilogy needs to wash his eyes with water more, because it's far from the best.

Risen 3 is Risen 2, but better. Same pirate shenanigans, but far more polished.

It suffers from the same problems: Mediocre plot, few memorable dialogues, some invisible walls that hinder your progress, some frustrating boss fights (for some reason the devs decided that people who like fantasy RPGs would really LOVE World of Tanks style ship combat) and a 1930s approach to women and race (Patty is now a pin-up doll).

On the plus side, Risen 3 fixed A LOT that was wrong with the previous games:
You start the game with a companion, a boat, Parrot Flight spells and the ability to explore most of the game world (which is big) from the get-go. It can be overwhelming, but it's definitely not boring.
Exploration is hard and rewarding - often a single path will have both an over-path, and an under-path, all with enemies and possible treasure. Even a small island can take time to finish if you want all the treasure.
While some boss fights are annoying mini-games, the final fight is enjoyable and actually requires you to use your preferred combat skills, unlike in Risen 1 and 2.
Most importantly, the guilds are finally worth joining! You won't end a chapter by joining one, you are still free to train in all the skills (except the magic of other guilds), and all the guilds offer useful magics of different types!

All in all, it's not Gothic 2, but without doubt an above-average game.

DLC

Adventure Garb - Hate it. Everything, except the armor, can be gotten for ~600 gold, and the armor is mid-game level, which makes the early game far too easy. It's not even particularly pretty.
Fog Island - Nothing here is strictly necessary, but it's all very helpful. The island is rich in treasure (including stat herbs) and has a legendary item that will increase your XP gain.
Uprising of the Little Guys - I just love the gnomes. Suitably, the quests on this island are mostly of the stealth variety and are a nice change of pace.

None of the DLCs worth their price (pre-order or retailer-specific shit), but the two islands are nice to have at a discount or pack.

Risen 3 is an enjoyable game. It's like a mix of Risen 1 and Risen 2 and that's basically all you can say about it.
It's a typical Piranha Bytes game with all it's strengths (big, detailed open world with lot's of things to explore, faction system, atmosphere, etc) and all it's weaknesses (animations, combat, story, overall crudeness).
If you like Piranha Bytes games, you will like this one too.

Just like the Gothic series, the third part was really not my favorite out of the three. They didn't improve on the combat. I hate the melee combat from Risen 2 and I hate the combat in Risen 3. The dodge in this game is useless. Enemy melee attacks follow you where ever you dodge to. No matter how far you dodge or run. Their attacks follow you all they way to your location. They just added more skills into magic abilities which lets you steam roll through the game. The three factions had abilities all based on magic which I hated. It was pretty pointless to invest too much into other attributes. Only if you needed the attribute to gain a skill. I wanted to do a musket build, but magic skills pretty much dominate in range combat. I really cannot recommend this game to anyone other than Risen fans.

What a stinking pile of dog vomit. This was the worst game I've played in years. The combat was awful, even basic enemies can give u a hard time at the end of the game beacuse they never stop attacking and can go right through your defence. The sound effects were cookie cutter sound library effects, the graphics belonged on console, the voice acting was laughable, main character sounds like someone doing a bad Geralt of Rivia imperssion, animations were terrible with hammer weapons having the same animations as the sword so you sneak up behind NPCs and slit their throat with the handle of your axe or shove the bunt end of your hammer through the enemies back. I forced my self to finish this crap and it didnt even have an ending, as soon as you beat the boss you see a 2 second cut scene of your ship sailing away, then credits.

My personal favorite in the Risen trilogy. For the most part it borrows the best parts from Risen 1 and 2 to make the best game.

Positives

+Combat is finally fair and balanced. How combat works is closer to R1, with visually distinctive combos and where your timing makes you attack faster. It's actually viable to play this whole game with melee and joining the Demon Hunters faction for their melee skills.
+Crystal magic from R1 returns! I don't care the lore is funky of why it was gone in R2, it's just nice to have it back.
+Voodoo magic is actually useful in combat.
+Movement abilities and terrain traversal from R1 are back. Levitate is replaced with the superior and cooler looking Parrot Flight. You can ledge grab almost any ledge within a certain height just like R1, as opposed to only specific ledges in R2. As such exploration feels rewarding again like in R1.
+You can join 3 distinct factions each with hours of unique quests and unique skills and ways to play. It is certainly worthwhile to replay the game.
+Companions return from R2 and are even more interesting and useful. My favorite part is that companions talk a LOT more as you explore the world, and will comment on various unique areas as well as reacting to the type of enemy you fight and kill. For example Bones I didn't like from R2, but in this he's much more fleshed out, interesting, and amusing.
+More attributes and more glory to level these up!
+Trainers and shops now show up on the map!
+Pistols no longer have the insanely large cooldown from R2 and can be used back to back if you wish.
+I very much like that nighttime isn't so dark you can't see. In R1+2 I always had to sleep to morning because nighttime was too dark to explore.
+For the first time you can swim!
+Astral vision is pretty cool once you learn skills for it. It can show various things including creatures, plants, and valuables. It's not worth leveling up beyond a couple points until the end game because leveling it up doesn't increase the distance, only the time you can use it before the screen starts blinking and draining your health, which isn't really that useful.
+I personally enjoy the new naval battles with the sea monsters. They are something different, and not too hard once you figure out broadside attacks.

Neutral

+-I'm sad you don't play as the hero of R1+2, but maybe it's for the best.
+-At first the main character's voice is awful, but you kind of get used to it. R2 has the best MC voice.
+-The game starts with a bunch of islands open and you're able to go to any of them in any order. On the one hand this freedom is great, but on the other I kind of prefer how R2 did it where you were locked into going to the first couple of islands then it opened up, and your purpose felt clearer. Here you have no idea what you're doing, so I suggest you look up the island of the faction you want to join and start there.
+-We finally get a minimap but it's zoomed in too much and so its only use is to follow quest markers.

Negatives

-When bringing up the map it always starts zoomed in and you have to manually zoom out every time. Quite annoying because it should be the opposite.
-In exchange for getting fair and balanced combat there aren't really any enemies you can't take on when you first encounter them (assuming of course you don't rush a Shadow Lord). Some are tougher than others, but nothing you can't handle if this is your third Risen game. I did like encountering a tough enemy and making a note to come back when stronger to see what it was hiding in R1+2.
-We still can't disable double tap to dodge, but we do have a dedicated dodge button to make it easier to use (when you actually mean to).

Helpful tips

*As usual you want to focus a good amount on Dexterity to level up lockpicking and incidentally pickpocket. Unless you're going Guardians in which case you get the Rust spell that also unlocks chests but is based on your Crystal Magic skill. Voodoo Magic users who will also be leveling up the Magic attribute can instead use Rust Scrolls. Otherwise pickpocketing isn't terribly useful if you otherwise don't need Dexterity.
*As said before you might want to look up which islands the factions reside in and start on the island of the faction you want to join, so you can get access to their skills as quick as possible. You also need to go to Antigua and help Alvarez real quick, then he will let you join a faction.
*I start on medium difficulty, then when I join a faction I up the difficulty to hard thanks to the new combat tools I have.
*Like in R1 using a potion to boost an attribute increases the cost to upgrade it. Therefore it is more efficient to save these valuable potions until you have already leveled a stat quite a ways.

It's like they say in the Chernobyl TV series. Not great, not terrible. It is a game that is developed by Piranha Bytes. They also developed the previous Risen installments, Elex and ofcourse the Gothic series. And it shows because if you played those games you will recognise a lot of elements from those games.

For instance the melee combat has changed again in this installment and despite the changes it still feels off and clunky. And if that isn't annoying enough multiple weaker enemies at once are way deadlier than a single strong one. This is because of the power attacks that stumble you if successful which means that a handful of enemies can stunlock you and prevent any sort of defense, attack or running away. You have some sort of invisible stamina bar which means that you can only run for a few seconds. The story is not that great either but given that the game is more about exploration and not very linear I can forgive that.

On the plus side you have the freedom to explore and can find items necessary for quests before you even started them. All the companions have their own comments on the locations that you visit and give comments about the story.

If you like the other games from Piranha Bytes you will most likely enjoy this one as well. If you dislike those games I would suggest you steer clear of it.

This is from the same developer as the Gothic series. I love that series in spite of its flaws. What is amazing to me is that this game has a new combat system that is different from Gothic 3, yet somehow its still horrible. How can they keep making combat systems that are so frustrating? It also crashes regularly. I've only played for a few hours so far and it has crashed at least 6 times.

I want to like the game, but so far it just sin't fun and I can't recommend it to anyone.

This game starts out fun and interesting, certain quests and way points are absolutely broken and bugged and you have to figure out the secret passage so run around like a diq looking how to find the next step or end a quest. The combat system is cool but at a certain point you become way overpowered and also everything gets repetitive. I tried to finish the game but it became a 9 to 5 and just ended up uninstalling it. The game had interesting potential but it flopped and it was way too long.

Such a great game same as the others in the series, exploration, combat, quests, treasure it's all there and in the most modernised refined form but without spoiling anything I can say this one has a very abrupt, no further explanation ending. Enjoyed every minute of this game except the games 30 second ending.

Better graphics, combat system, and faction quest lines than Risen 2. The story continues after the first two games, although you play a different character this time. Overall, it was fun exploring the world and tinkering with different playstyles. However, the ending (either good or bad) felt very rushed and unfulfilling. Not the best way to wrap up the Risen series, but there you go.

Risen 3 has the same appeal as the Gothic series but also has the same feeling as Risen 2, just a more improved version.

All three Risen games are quality games that are at least somewhat interesting and fresh among RPGs.

A truly fascinating RPG...

[+] Really Good Graphics on PC version of this game

[+] Rich RPG element

[+] Some unique gameplay mechanics are introduced

[+] Decent Auto-Save system

The bad part...

[-] Performs horribly on modern hardware, can't pull 60 fps under any circumstances

[-] Audio Bug, Sound Bug exists & very irritating at some moment

Overall a good RPG to experience, if you have free time on your hand. go for it :)

Tossing down notes as i play,I'm mainly going to compare it to elex since that is one of their other games with the same basic principals.

Pros
1.Kill animations.
2.Spell animations, low bar but in their next game elex they don't have any so yeah.
3.I can skip their annoying biting intro unlike in elex.
4.A transformation spell in a non turned based game, used to get this all the time back in the old days but it got too hard so the devs gave it up.

Cons
1.Dodging so far is worthless.
2.Clunky melee combat.
3.No sprint button.
4.No facial expressions what so ever.
5.So far the cut scenes have been cringe.
6.This isn't elex so why is the mc voice acting so emotionless and dull? Just straight up trash. At least jax had a reason to be that way but even he gave more energy than this bargain bin va.
7.Crashes/freezes.
8.Bugs examples corpses falling through the ground and voice lines cut out.

I like this 3rd game.
First Risen is the best played it multiple times, 2nd only one time but i quit it was to boring :/
But this one is ok.
Its really slow from beginning, i whould say the first 10 or so hours are very boring and slow, i see why also many quit there ,but after then you are stronger and have much more powers its get to be fun.
Like the story really in this one, i think another reason why the game is good.

BAD: One of the WORST ending in gaming, 40 hours just to get 1 cutscene of like 10 seconds.
Also the most hardest boss ever, so hard i had to watch on you tube how it ends.

Open world RPG in the same vein as the previews games.

Pros:
You can now swim and even run
Combat feels 100x better than risen 2 (not sure why they fcked up elex by using risen 2 combat)
Magic is back even though all paths give you their own
You max all stats so you're not locked to a playstyle
The game crashed only 2 times which is a miracle for a PB game
Achievements are mostly fair and you can 100% in one playthrough

Cons:
run and fast swim only last 2 seconds which is super lame
Patty now looks like a sex doll and for some reason is your sister when she used to be your girlfriend in previous games? Is this a kink thing?
MC voice now sounds like a drug dealer or a compulsive smoker
No option in game to select fullscreen
World map looks completely different from previous game which kills the sense of continuity
There's a reputation system called soul based mostly on conversations not actions which is bollocks, there's no reason for the soul system to even exist
There's lots of visual bugs and you need to make a lot of saves to prevent buggy quests
All three paths you can take feel the same, there's no reason to lock us from joining a different faction, there's basically zero value from replaying the whole game with a different faction

Final thoughts: A good entertaining game where gameplay saves the shoddy nonsense narrative. 8/10. I wish elex was more like this.

Only for people who enjoy the Piranha Bytes brand of RPGs, as this is their weakest entry in their weakest series.

The game offers an atrocious camera during combat, which will be your main cause of death. I do mean the camera. Also heavy on the negative are some mini-games that reach Ubisoft levels of crappiness, like the QTE arm-wrestling contest. Or the battles versus invisible, teleporting sea monsters that have you navigate reefs without visibility, 90% of the screen being covered by hull and sails, with the saving feature disgracefully removed... only to bug-freeze when you finally succeed. (Tip: don't reload the latest auto-save if that happens to you; reload your own, earlier save.) Also the horrendous boss battles. Also the level caps, that make the entire last island funless.

But perhaps the most disappointing is the half-arsed integration between maps and exploration features, like the monkey and the parrot. Both are constantly blocked by inexplicable, immersion-breaking, invisible walls. The tiny monkey cannot pass between prison bars. You consistently cannot fly over gaps, and flying is generally tedious. This is amateurish design in a place where the company traditionally excels.

The game overstayed its welcome, with the last 20 hours halfheartedly played to see how the story ends.

Still leaves 80 hours of mostly joyful exploration, with good writing and voicing. Plenty of humour and mischief for someone who loves playing rogues. Rich and immersive world, variously useful and entertaining companions...
I'll take it with its flaws.

Not a bad game. There are bugs and some gamebreaking bugs like shooting monster near bodies of water that will freeze your game or if you continue autosave when battling on sea, it won't load an island that you travel to and will be stuck in limbo. Quests are interesting though I had to google a lot to know what I will get or what should I do. I didn't like the voice actor for main character, bad acting and emotionless and also didn't like that they changed the voice actor for nameless one that was a main character in previous two games. Anyway, get a musket and you will get ez kills.

It's probably the best playing and most easy to get OP really fast of the Pirhana Bytes games. Beginning is kinda rough until you start putting points into things, but probably about 5-8 hours in you can easily stomp through the rest of the game.

The factions armor and stories are pretty different, so it's interesting picking one and seeing how things play out. I recommend picking early if you want to focus on Magic or Melee, and kinda dedicate points to the appropriate skills (after picking up Cunning and Influence). Though, if you are a completionist on each island, you'll easily be able to be a master of all since the islands have LOTS of quests, and if you clear all the monsters from each island you'll be absolutely swimming in Glory (their experience that you spend).

I’ve played all the Gothic and Risen games, and have always enjoyed them. They have a different take on the RP genre from the big guys like Bethesda and CDPR, and in my book that’s no bad thing.

Often, the game doesn’t hold your hand. The tutorial is pretty basic, but there’s an extensive manual on the game page, which is worth reading, just to get the basic ideas.

Personally, I love the interface, the way spells are done, and the big differences between the factions. I used a 360 controller, so selecting items from the radial hotbar isn’t quite as nice as the keyboard, but with a bit of management you can work it out.

There’s a LOT of combat. It’s pretty easy on easy mode, and quite tough in harder modes, but the moves are pretty basic and easy to learn.

You’ll generally always have at least one companion, and occasionally a whole squad, but there’s no inventory sharing or anything like that. Also, no weight limit on what you can carry, so no yomping back and forth like a pack mule.

The locations are very varied, with the final destination being the best, complete with
Icelandic style lava
!

Some players might find it all a bit fiddly and unfamiliar, but get over any initial reservations and there’s a fantastic game waiting for you.

[You can be a parrot, as well as a pirate.]

So, I've played and beaten all three of the Risen games. I've enjoyed them all, (warts and all). They have all had their strengths and weaknesses. Uhmm..... the ending of this game??? Much to be desired...What in the world was that?

Play the game. Enjoy each faction if you would like. I just finished it as a Voodoo Pirate because it seems like few do. It was a blast! Using parrot form is incredibly useful and I dropped weapons almost altogether once I got the hang of each spell.

The dialogue was good, aside from the gruff main character (you). I was hoping to run into the protagonist of the previous two games somewhere. (Spoiler) Does not happen. No information about him at all..

The game was really fun, since I knew how the others played out. The ending, though??? NOPE. There's nothing there and it's very disappointing. I do, however, look forward to a Risen 4.

THE ENDING.

Dark Souls lite. Every monster encounter requires dodge roll and every monster is dangerous (especially the big ones). It's not nearly as difficult, but still gives off those vibes.

Exploration is highly encouraged, choose light or dark as well as one of three factions. Numerous quests, a million skills (learn to train a monkey to steal and scout for you), a few mini games such as knife throwing and arm wrestling, a simplistic QTE system for traps and special monster attacks, numerous secrets. It would be nice if more titles mimicked this formula.

My biggest complaint is that the light/dark choices are fairly black and white. There does not seem to be any real moral dilemmas or any reason to make a dark choice other than simply wanting to be a demon.

Great game and definitely my favorite out of the Risen series. I really needed a game like this to play after leaving Skyrim behind. Truly memorable characters, lots of comedy and a pirate themed adventure.
I've only scratched the surface of this massive game, and it also has some big expansions that were purchased for a very reasonable price. Don't rush through this journey, take your time to explore - you really get rewarded. Plus, it's a good way to increase your skills and gather some gold before things get difficult.
Truly having a blast playing this - even though the language can be a little vulgar at times. Fun combat that combines dodging, swordplay, gun battles, crossbow action and magic.

Stay away from this sack of ♥♥♥♥ game. Takes an hour to kill a guy and you go thru 50 healing provisions because the ass first combat system is like running your privates over a rusty cheese grater then dipping them in an alcohol bath.

If you can get past the horrendous voice acting and story, you will realize it's not worth it because the combat and A.I. is a disgrace to game design. They couldn't even get the basic movement programmed in so it feels like you are walking with a Zimmer frame strapped to each leg.

Might be a decent game for passionate slayers, but when I buy an rpg, I expect a focus on interesting storylines, and worlds to explore. The problem is, you can't walk for five inches without being attacked. I would like to follow the story, but there is no time for that because I'm forced to kill monster after monster, and the frequent lags make it nothing but an annoyance. I really loved Risen, but this is a very poor sequel that would still need some bug fixes.

OVERALL (8/10): If you are into the Witcher 3, Dragon's Dogma, Skyrim, Dragon's Dogma, Dragon Age, Creedfall etc. - you will like this game.

ANIMATION (7/10): The animation is from the early 2010s but the textures have been updated to give the game a remastered look. I personally cannot play a game if it is too old looking & I was satisfied with the visual updates.

STORYLINE (9/10): The writing is superb & serves well to keep the story line interesting. The main protagonist (who you play as) has a personality comparable to Geralt of Rivia. He is likeable although not as memorable. The NPCs have stiff animations but their personalities are excellently illustrated through well thought-out dialogue. I am a bit disappointed that you have to ultimately pick one of the three factions, but this would be welcomed by folks who like to replay games ( I do not). Despite having to pick one of the three factions, you only miss out on the faction related abilities/quest but can partake in all other quests.

GAMEPLAY (9/10): The game is best played with keyboard & mouse but there is gamepad support. I would suggest you use the PS4 Dualshock 4 & keybind to your liking with the Steam controller mapping in big screen mode. On the keyboard, the controls are intuitive & require proper timing. This is not a button-masher. If you are into Dark Souls games (like myself), this follows the same sort of gameplay strategy: Hit, parry, roll away & repeat. Each enemy - however - might require these actions in a different sequence. Something that this game does really well are the combat animations. The impact of your sword & the recoil of your gun are well animated. The magic has a Dragon Dogma-esque feel to it & that was one of my favorite games to play as a mage (and, as an assassin many years later). Many new games actually get magic animations wrong but Risen 3 designers made the magic feel super cool - it is one of its defining features after its writing!

CONCLUSION (My Opinion = Buy it): I am extremely picky about the types of games I end up playing. This game earns its right to be up there with the best Fantasy RPGs. Although nothing compares to the Witcher 3 (greatest Fantasy RPG game, in my opinion) - just like Creedfall, or Dragons Age III (Dragon Age 1 was a masterpiece) it can hold us over until the Witcher 4 is released or the Dragon Age franchise gets its act together.

So it is the sequel of Risen 2, but I don't get why they suddenly changed the main character or how some of the old companions look like. Didn't really like that very much, but other than that it's mostly the same as Risen 2, the same map, same factions + some new ones, pretty much the same combat, but slightly improved. The magic system is surprisingly good in this one and for the first time in any Gothic game I enjoyed playing a mage. They added sea battles, they are fun but they are few. The story was pretty uninteresting and the villain was introduced almost at the end and didn't really have any impact. The boss fights were terrible, they tried making them harder by spawning infinite enemies during the fight, but it only made them frustrtating especially the final boss. What else is there to say? Not much really, it's more Risen 2 with some slight improvements and a fairer difficulty curve.

Time to finish the game with pretty much full completion: 41,5 hours

This is the only Piranha Bytes game that I still had pending and I am glad that finally got to complete it. I liked it almost as much as Elex.

Gothic 1 and 2 are among my all time favorites and Risen 3, unlike Risen 2 that was a disaster, goes back to those roots. I am thankful for that.

Piranha Bytes and their games usually receive mixed reviews, mainly because of their clunky combat and lack of polish, and Risen 3 is no exception, it suffers in those areas. On the other hand, Risen 3 shines in the same areas as the developer other games, the quests, a handcrafted world and character progression are all top notch. And by the last I mean that there is no level scaling in Risen 3. Your character is really weak during their first hours and you slowly build up and get stronger.

On the negative side, the world was somewhat too big for my tasting, the sea battles were annoying and, without spoiling anything, some boss fights toward the end where rage inducing.

In general I dislike the pirates theme, however, they did a great job so at the end it was not a big deal and I quickly forgot about it.

I recommend the game to anyone that played and liked a Piranha Bytes game. For those that never played a Piranha Bytes game, better start by Elex and only come to this one afterwards.

For comparison, this is my PB games rank: Gothic>Gothic 2>Elex>Risen 3>Risen>Gothic 3>Risen 2

This game is gonna get a 2/5 at max just for Patty. (Just kidding it's a 1/5)
It had it's wacky moments but most of the time it was more of an obligation to finish the game rather than enjoying it. The final just leaves you with an empty feeling without accomplishment.
Every Island and characters were taken from the previous game tweaked with a little bit by changing appearance and thrown in this one (Exploring the same places over and over again just isn't the same).

If you can get past the horrendous voice acting and story, you will realize it's not worth it because the combat and A.I. is a disgrace to game design. They couldn't even get the basic movement programmed in so it feels like you are walking with a Zimmer frame strapped to each leg.

It is a bit buggy, but overall a great RPG experience. A good story line in a wide and diverse world. As far as I am concerned, up there with Skyrim and Witcher 3.

When it first came out I was playing it for an hour and immediately turned the game off and uninstalled.
But after several years I came to the conclusion I should give it a second chance. After all Risen 1 is awesome, finished once Risen 2 and somehow I still missed the last one to be finished.

Long story short - after few minutes I actually started to like the game and to be honest it was quite good and in the end I enjoyed it. Of course it's not Witcher, but if you are a casual gamer - I recommend. For me 7/10

As with basically every other Piranha Bytes game, it's charmingly janky. Deeeefinitely not a AAA title, but I still enjoyed it through to the end.

time your attacks and dodge in combat, and you'll enjoy the story and the exploration well enough

An okay RPG game I somewhat recommend to those who have already played Risen 1 & 2, albeit this part seems to have some bad decisions made during development and it shows, the game is clearly worse. Nonetheless, it's still worth giving it a try if you've already played Gothics and previous Risens, but expect decline in quality.

I only recommend playing this game if you've played the first two so you can see how things change from Risen 2 -> 3. If you haven't played the first two, I'd skip this game because on it's own it's not that great.

+ Immersive Environments
+ The return of my beloved water barrels from Risen 1
- Main character's voice is English Geralt but doesn't fit the aesthetics of his character unless you join a specific faction
+ Combat is the best in the series, which isn't really saying much.
- Piercing weapons have slashing animations
+ Diverse islands for the most part
+ Revisiting old areas and seeing old characters from the first two games is cool
+ Exploration is fun again
+ Ship battles are interesting but really fit in more with the second game.
- You can become god-like decently fast. Enemies stopped dealing meaningful damage to me about half way through the game while playing on Hard. Can't imagine playing it on normal.

Story is ok, not as good as the previous two games IMO. Plus i'm not even sure this resolved the world's problems introduced by the first two games.

In my opinion this is Piranha Bytes best game to date, elex included.
Here they improved every aspect of the gameplay from previous titles, from melee combat to ranged to the reintroduction of spellcasting. It has three distinct factions, each with their own take on magic and weaponry that lends itself to very different playstyles AND faction storylines including altering the look of your main character, regardless of armor. The graphics are about the same as in Risen 2 but still hold up today in 2020. It's also longer than all their previous titles, save maybe gothic 3 and you get to revisit a lot of locations you visited in Risen 2, and get to see how they have developed and changed since the events of Risen 2.

The Risen series is well worth your money and time, and if you haven't played any of Piranha bytes games to date, then i suggest buying all 3 risen games instead of getting Elex.

Easter egg city.

Lovely game, combat was quite weird but I enjoyed it nonetheless.
(This is a PB title. You will not have fun if you think this game is like Witcher or Shadow of War/Mordor).

I loved Risen, I liked Risen 2... but Risen 3 is mistake. Jungle trying look pretty but its very confusing. Looting system is bad really bad... when i am looting gold i start 10 times conversation with my companion who stands behind me. I done see it but still it triggers conversation. Controls and jumping around is bad too. I can´t recommend this game. Unfortunately really good strong character Patty looks like barbie girl in pirate style and conversation with her are meh not good as in previous games. I am really sad from this game... Not sure if i can play long enough to go through first island.

Ugly thing, better squished.

Despite its faults (especially the fighting awkwardness), this Risen 3 has a lot of content and things to do. There are plenty of missions, guilds and factions system, free exploration, some epic ship battles, etc.

Is not one of the best within its genre, but it is quite enjoyable. I think this game was a bit underrated.
