The Rise of the Tomb Raider wartet mit einer atemberaubenden Kulisse auf.

Also Story : ok
Sound/Musik : Top
Durchhaltevermögen muss man an manchen Stellen einfach mitbringen.

Rise of the Tomb Raider
In Sachen Optik, bzw.

Lara sagt dir ALLE 5 SEKUNDEN WAS DU ZU TUN HAST, WIE WENIG VERTRAUEN HABEN DIE ENTWICKLER IN DIE SPIELER?

The good
Superbly rendered environments
Excellent voice acting
Same with the animations
A very decent story (if far-fetched)
Lots of hair-raising moments
Lots of good action sequences too, and a good selection of weapons to get the job done
Plenty of upgrade and crafting options
Lara is an appealing character. She's a human rather than a walking advertisement for silicone implants.
The bad
Close combat fighting is still problematical due to the whack camera angles
Enemy AI can range from passable to dumb to totally non-existent
Camera angles themselves can be a PITA. There's one instance where she's climbing a wall, and the camera goes AWOL way off the screen.
Too many Spielberg-ish cliffhanger moments
Main villain is an idiot
What Lara can climb or mantle is variable
Same with where she can go - lots of game walls and barriers
Backtracking involved if you want to explore places previously inaccessible due to a lack of the right weapon/tool

I enjoyed this so much I've finished this twice: first time on easy with controller, second time on normal with KB+M. It plays better with KB+M as there is quite a bit of combat and aiming required. It's a linear shooter platform puzzle game with some crafting elements. A great quality game, and Lara is gorgeous!

It actually managed to impress me even more than it's prequel.
When I first played it in late 2016 I couldn't believe how extremely detailed everything was.
With character models being even more detailed than its sequel (Shadow of the Tomb Raider):
https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=2398898134
This also means you can't really run this game on a potato even though it was released 5 years ago.
Another noticeable improvement over the previous game is it got a lot more challenging and fun tombs.
While to some the story may be the games weak point but I personally find it quite interesting even
though a bit too religious but gamers should be open minded, right?

I couldn't decide whether I'd recommend this game to others because my critique is a little unique and it's very subjective. The game is actually fine. It looked great on my PC, the controls were good, the story was mostly compelling, and the game mechanics were very engaging.
My big problem with this game is that there's very little tomb raiding, which is strange, because the game is called Tomb Raider. You spend about a quarter of the game in a Soviet military camp, you go into some caves here and there, do some other little things. You spend maybe 10% of this game in actual tombs. I loved the exotic locations of the original games, even the supernatural elements. You spent the majority of those games in mysterious tombs, and playing the games as a little kid, usually late at night, it really made the games an exciting experience, never knowing when something would pop out at you.
This game felt like a basic Hollywood action flick. Again, the combat is engaging, some of the puzzles were interesting, the graphics were good. But I wasn't transported to a far away place the same way that I was with the older games. There are countless games where you run around old Soviet encampments with an AK47, getting into large gun fights. There's nothing wrong with that kind of game! It just didn't feel like a Tomb Raider game to me. Call me crazy, but I think the vast majority of a Tomb Raider game should take place in a tomb.

Rise of the Tomb Raider™ Review
Pros:
- Visually stunning
- Heavily story based
- Features a realistic and young Lara Croft, it’s her origin story so it’s showing what is making her the seasoned explorer that most know her as
- Don’t need to have previous Tomb Raider experience
- Much more intuitive controls
- Relatively easy to run
- Something appealing to most people: collectables, combat, climbing, exploration, puzzles, lore/notes, little secret challenges, moderately open world, lots of different environments throughout the games
- The upgrade and skill tree aspects are very fun and rewarding → lets you tailor the game a bit to the weapons and play style you prefer
Cons:
- Much less focus on puzzle solving, the actual ‘tomb raiding’ is sort of an extra in the rebooted games (they’re actually called ‘optional treasure tombs’ or something), you can play the entire games only having done the 1 puzzle at the start of the games that it used as a tutorial/introduction to how tombs work
- Related to above: The puzzles in the tombs are very simple, I spent much, much less time solving the new Tomb Raider puzzles than the old ones
- The combat is fun but fairly easy, there are of course different difficulty settings though so this isn’t such a bad con :)
- Sometimes it feels a bit too much like the game is in control → there are lots of action sequences with quick time events and very restrictive camera angles (the camera isn’t free rotating in parts, it’s controlled to show the scenic parts of the games, this is especially true during the climbing sequences) → this can be a good thing though, some people (including me) don’t mind quick time events (even if they are a little stressful)
- It’s a bit of a kill fest, there’s a LOT more random shooting in the new games than the old, it kinda feels a bit unbelievable that one young woman is slaughtering hundreds of other people. The ability to progress without killing heaps of people is limited, you can’t really choose a playstyle very well.
- Related to the last point: there isn’t much character development for Lara when she kills all these people, she doesn’t seem to show much remorse or care for the people she killed which I feel is unfitting of her character and I personally found it quite unimpressive that this caring and driven young woman is just randomly shooting up hundreds of strangers. This is more of a personal issue though, I’m sure many don’t mind this.
Old games vs. new:
- >
The old and new games are both fantastic, it really just comes down to what you’re looking for. If you want more relaxed puzzle solving go for the old games, if you want a bit more action, gorgeous graphics, and some oddly interesting story lines go for the new games !

“Another Croft doesn’t have to die for this.”
Summary:
Stealth, exploration, combat, crafting, collectibles, upgrades, leveling- this Tomb Raider game throws everything and the kitchen sink at you to create the videogame equivalent of junk food. Top that lack of identity with a boring protagonist following a predictable plot and you have a game that’s only worth the time and effort if you get it on sale.
Should you buy this?
Get the 20-year celebration pack on sale. The game isn’t worth the full price, and the main game is a bit short on content, so you'll need the DLC content to extend replayability.
The only reason I’m giving the game a positive review is because I got it at a 75% discount.
The Basics:
Rise of the Tomb Raider (RoTR) is an action-adventure game starring one of gaming’s most enduring characters, Lara Croft. In her latest adventure, Lara has to stop a secret society from getting their hands on an ancient relic of enormous power.
Gameplay:
(I played the game on Survivor, the second hardest difficulty)
RoTR’s gameplay consists of combat encounters and exploration. In combat, Lara is supposedly free to deal with her enemies as she sees fit. So, you can gun down everyone in sight like Rambo, or distract and stealth kill enemies like you’re the Predator. Sounds good, right? Except, no, at many points in the story, the game forces you to fight a bunch of enemies head on. Because I guess the developers thought that stealthing around is for cowards.
In between the story bits, you’ll be exploring the world, looking for resources and collectibles to build upgrades for your equipment and getting experience points to level up. You can also complete some side quests for additional rewards. The problem is that the game only has two segments which are open ended enough to explore at your own pace. Most of the segments in the game are corridors that you are supposed to pass through while you’re playing the story. And the kicker? The two open parts of the world can be completed in 2-3 hours with the right gear. The whole thing feels like some Ubisoft open world game, with the added caveat of throwing in a few “chest high walls” that you can’t get through unless you play through the story and get the tools needed to pass.
The DLCs have some extra modes, like survival and time attack, which can extend the replay value of the game. I’d suggest anyone looking to buy the game gets those, since the base game is severely lacking in the gameplay. Its not a good thing when I can get the game to 85% completion in 24 hours on the second hardest difficulty level.
Graphics and sound:
The game world is pretty well designed and it looks great on higher settings. You can even see stuff like Lara leaving behind tracks in the think snow as she passes through. The sound design is generally good, although you will often hear the enemies repeating the same 5-6 lines, which gets ridiculous after the 5th time you hear a late game enemy mention that this is their first time working for the bad guys.
The Problems:
The biggest problems with RoTR are its storyline & characters and its overall lack of a distinguishing feature.
The game’s plot supposedly explores Lara’s relation with her late father and her attempts to vindicate his lifelong research. However, right in the game’s prologue, Lara sees the lost city she was looking for. Since this means that Lara could just take a picture and head back home, the game immediately introduces a whole “almighty secret society” angle to give her a motivation to get through the rest of the plot. To cover up how hasty this was, the devs included a few throwaway lines in the enemy chatter indicating that the events of Tomb Raider 2013 were orchestrated by the same group.
None of this would be too bad, if the game treated the plot like a campy B-movie plot. But the writing and dialogue makes it so that everything is super serious. Most of the voice actors try their best to pull this off, with varying levels of success. However, the worst at this our protagonist Lara Croft. Camilla Luddington, Lara’s VA in the game, hasn’t improved her performance at all since Tomb Raider 2013. As a result, every time Lara says she’s “got to” do something, the only one she manages to convince is herself.
Another big problem with RoTR is that it has very little to stand out from other action-adventure games like Far Cry or Assassin’s Creed. The whole tomb raiding thing (you know, the thing Lara and this whole remake trilogy is known for?) is pretty much relegated to optional side activities. This is a game that threw everything at the wall to see what would stick, and as a result became something without an identity of its own.
Final word:
Rise of the Tomb Raider is a functional, if unambitious game that will tide you over if you’re looking for a game that doesn’t do much to stand out from the crowd of better action-adventure games. Its no wonder that the game has been surpassed on almost all aspects by games like Far Cry, Assassin’s Creed and Horizon Zero Dawn since its release. It might not blow you away with its amazing unique gameplay or moving story, but it will tide you over if you’re just hungry for some cheap action.
Just like some fast food!

Personally, out of the three games (TR13, ROTR [this one], and SOTR), I liked this one the most. Many of the elements - story, graphics, exploration, crafting, and Slavic/Russian-inspired mythology - are an improvement from the previous. I was excited to continue the story, and the action towards the end was really riveting. Finding optional puzzles were very fun and unique. The game overall is easier to play and get used to. And Lara Croft is still a badass. Rise of the Tomb Raider is very similar to Tomb Raider 2013, so many details from that game will be alike to this one. I only have a couple nitpicks about the game, most of which about combat and enemies respawning in areas you revisit.
All in all though, this game was so fun that sometime in the future I know I'll be replaying it again. If you enjoyed the first Tomb Raider, then you'll probably enjoy this one since they're very similar!

The story is great. The puzzles and bosses are challenging so it makes a great tomb raider game. The story lasts around 8–15 hours depending on if you venture off to do a tomb here and there. I'd definitely recommend it, it's worth it.
Excellent storyline
Strong RPG elements
Stunning graphics
Plenty of gameplay content
Rise of the Tomb Raider takes everything that was successful in the 2013 reboot, including its stunning graphics and reimagined Lara, and takes it one step further.

However, Rise of the Tomb Raider expands the gameplay formula in a great way. Adopting mechanics and systems from other semi open world titles while mixing them in with the mechanics of its predecessor.
Story is somehow less engaging and thrilling. It lacks those tense moments that made the story of 2013 game so amazing.
My biggest pet peeve is that there is really no impact with the weapons.
All and all it's still a great Tomb Raider game with a decent story, if you like action-adventure games, then you will also enjoy this.

Solid Sequel to the 2013 Tomb Raider
Game's prologue starts strong with Lara contemplating the supernatural events of Yamatai and her post-Himiko emerging PTSD.
The link to the predecessor is well established and the story is centered around the suicide of Mr. Croft.
Then the game takes you on a brief expedition to Syria where relics and murals introduce the Prophet.
This leads to Jonah and Lara going on an expedition to Siberia where 90% of the plot takes place.
During a mountain climb in the beginning of the voyage, Lara and Jonah are separated due to an Avalanche.
I have mixed feelings about this game...
https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=2235367488
It does have vastly improved graphics.
While it has certainly improved the game design and customization options of its predecessor, it simply does not reach that level of scripting achieved in the previous Tomb Raider on Yamatai.
The intro is very good but the story as a whole is not as gripping as in the last title.
Somewhere midgame the plot is just lacking some culminating moments.
Even though I like the narrative of the Prophet in Constantinople and how Jacobs's people are related to it.
It just felt less exciting than the adventure on Himiko's island.
Maybe it is the dark snowy cold environment; maybe it is just the fact that the story is less multi-faceted than before...
I just had way more fun with the previous title..
https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=2369067544
Nevertheless, it is a very well made game.
Game has additional challenge modes, tons of collectibles and a nice additional nightmare mode in the croft manor.
It even features a co-op mode!
I just wished that there was more info on the Russian culture in this game.

Shooting, blood and brutality are no more the main components of the game. Instead, Rise of the Tomb Raider is more concentrated on real explorations and tomb raiding. In the previous game the tombs were frightening and in some way disgusting (the settings, blood and dead bodies), in this game they look gorgeous and are full of the Indiana Jones spirit. In the game there are nine well-made tombs which amazed me with their architecture and design. I highly recommend to explore all of them as they provide great experience.
What is more, in Rise of the Tomb Raider the relics in the tombs are presented as some hidden and lost knowledge of the ancients (there is even a side-quest in the game to return all lost knowledge to the descendants). It is completely unlike in Tomb Raider where the relics in tombs were some pieces for equipment. For me, the new approach is great as it gives an opportunity to get something more valuable and to do a nice gesture to the people.
One more interesting feature – languages study: during the game Lara has a chance to learn Greek, Mongolian and Russian languages by finding some murals and historical documents. The study of the languages is not required by storyline however by that the developers improved the system of caches. If in Tomb Raider the caches were something like a GPS points but without any sense except some jumping and perception exercises, in Rise of the Tomb Raider, improving language level allows to acquire treasures maps with two types of caches: survival caches (with some resources for crafting) and [strike]cashes[/strike] caches of ancient coins. The game also contains some additional challenges, side-quests plus there are more skills and big variation of weapons which is really cool as it allows to build your own strategy of gameplay.
This game could be a fantastic example of how polish and justification of game play moments should be done, but not with a game where the screenplay is raw.
Here we have a traditional злой русский [strike]Nikolay[/strike] Konstantin which Lara has to stop and to save the world. The screenplay has nice elements: few flashbacks were heart breaking; villagers were looking interesting… But the game could not provide all the answers I wanted to know. It is not about teasing of what is the “Trinity” and their goals but simply it is about non motivation, forgetfulness of gameplay elements and just some screenplay holes. In many moments I had a question of “why should I even do that?” and I haven’t got any satisfying answer in the game.
If you are in love with Tomb Raider and want to have some more tombs to raid, shoot some other bad guys and don’t want to bother with some serious story telling about saving the world – there is no reason to not to play the game.
100500 deaths from jumping out of 10.

Finally, I made some time to get TR:RotTR off of the backlog. I had high hopes of continuing right where TR left off, but it was not to be had. The game overall was fun, but not at the same level of TR.
Still one of the best franchises for creating a stunningly beautiful world. Graphics were on par with what we expected. The story line had ample twists and turns to keep things interesting. After this, though, things start falling short or reach frustrating levels.
- Audio -
Many times it was difficult to locate enemies by sound. I was often looking behind me or thinking an enemy was close when in fact they were quite a distance away.
Gun play was satisfying but felt weak at times because that strong punch of sound was missing.
- Acrobatics -
Nothing more frustrating than jumping from ledge to ledge, rope-swinging through the air, and every other platforming gimmick just to have Lara miss a routine handhold that she successfully grabbed multiple times leading up to that one. Or better yet, finally make that missed grab after a dozen attempts only to fall through a scripted scene, nullifying all that effort in split second.
I don't mind platforming but it felt like the devs just placed platforming in areas of the story line that didn't need it just to increase the amount of platforming in the game.
- Bugs -
Apparently there are some DirectX 12 issues still at play that were never resolved. Late in the game the audio started hitching, game engine crashed during specific fight scenes, and then the sort of game breaking bug that prevents you from trying to 100% the game after the SP campaign unless you disable DirectX 12 temporarily.
- Movement -
Obviously character movement was designed around console/controller play and when ported over retained a lot of that expectation for KBD/mouse players. Getting stuck on objects, can't see where I'm headed from the forced camera perspective, and being turned around after a scripted scavenging event made for some very disorienting and frustrating results.
It's still Lara Croft at the end of the day. She can still kick ass with the best of them any day of the week. I'm glad to have finally finished off this campaign, look forward to completing as many tasks and hunts as I can, but it could have been tremendously better.
tl;dr: Despite some frustrations throughout the game, it's still worth picking up knowing what you're getting into.

Woe, woe, woe... I'm incredibly impressed by this masterpiece.
I usually love TR series but this one is actually something different. There is many things to say but i will keep the review short as much as i can.
I want to start with the design of Lara, she looks a little bit different than usual, maybe way too much younger or older? I quite can't tell but she is absolutely stunning anyway.
I bought the game with complete edition so i instantly got all Lara costumes with it. Many of them very very cool and i was keep changing them in almost every camp.. Ha!
We don't much many friends as previous game but they also cool people, we hoomies help each other in many circumstances you feel me?
And of course there is nothing to say about level designs, atmosphere, ambience and the world of any TR game... It's litereally STUNNING!
I really enjoyed side-quests, mini games, explorings exc. in this one. They designed perfectly feels very cool to complete.
Upgrade system pretty much similar as previous one, that doesn't bother me anyway.
Fight mechanics also feels the same, but there is a few more features which is really fine.
Tbh, the optional tombs feels much eaiser than previous game. Maybe it's just me. Idk, what can i say?
One thing that bothered me is the one of the final fights in last chapter, no worries, i won't spoil anything as always. But that's is seriously one thing that bothered me in whole game. So i'm okay to ignore it.
The story was way way much better than i ever expected. I really don't know how to tell but, in this scenario i really felt my enemy, i felt the empathy and i feel like i felt every any emotion in this game that i can't really tell. Sorry for tiny confusion but i didn't know how to explain.
The characters feels really deep and story of background completes everything really well...
I'm greatful for everyone who worked on this. This probably gonna one of my fav games.
I wish i did'nt buy this one in sale, it deserves every every penny. And worth for full price.
Thanks for reading my review and don't lose any second for experience this amazing art!

Good
- Graphics
- Movement feels great
- Lots more variety in Lara's skills
- Weapon and upgrade progression expanded, feels heaps better
- Challenge tombs provide special skills
- More spelunking mechanics
- Exotic predators are cool
- Spelunking and puzzles are a lot more varied / better presented this time around so it feels less repetitive
Bad
- White paint still kills immersion
- Lara taking massive damage then shrugging it off 5 seconds later still kills immersion
- Some puzzles are really immersion breaking - why would you do a whole ass puzzle just to open a gate when you could just climb the fence as an example

The game is just so beautiful, the outfits fit her perfectly and its overall vibe is just great!
The Tombs, Challenges, Collecting Relics and other Achievements and other shit was a pain in the ass to do, and might like myself take you 35+ hours to find and do. Not in one go but overall. But its satisfieing running around the mountainous map area so it does redeem itself for that fact.
10/10 game, but the main story was just ok, not the most interesting but it was fun to go through!

It's definitely better than its predecessor, but it's still largely a game that demands the player enjoy it in a rote pathway. All of the climbing is as pointless as ever and the action beats are predictably unexciting in their facade. It's just the kind of game that things get more thrilling with bigger explosions rather than challenge and triumph.
What's worst of all is the addition of its crafting mechanics which requires components scattered throughout the maps. It's made easy by the use of Lara's sense ability, which turns the screen black and white with highlights on materials, but that leads the player into constantly pushing the button and having a very distracting (and detracting) screen effect over an otherwise beautifully rendered game. Total shame.

The visuals have improved even from what we got in the previous game and the world building is beautiful, but I wish they had more puzzles and just meditative areas where you would have to get from A to B in some tricky fashion. “Rise” is very battle-heavy and has done injustice to the action-puzzle balance the series is known for.
The pacing of the game suffers heavily if you decide to go after the in-game activities that clutter the world of Tomb Raider. Having avoided those in the previous game, I have a direct comparison to how it affects this series and it made for a poorer game experience as a whole. You lose grasp over the motives that drive the character to do what she does. This brings down tension and makes the plot hard to follow.

Rise of the Tomb Raider continues where previous game ended, and as a part of trilogy it have to be review as such.
Lara is older, more confident at herself, more skillful hunter and warrior. Story continues from the previous game, its all about stopping Trinity but this time she is hunting them.
Rise of Tomb Raider is focused more about killing enemies and less about surviving, some part of the game has so many enemies it feels like a third person shooter. Maps are lot bigger with lot more things to do, hunting animals, birds, deer, wolves and collect crafting materials to upgrade your weapons and skills. At her camp Lara now has dozens different outfits she can wear, each giving her different bonuses, skills have also advanced with more options to choose from.
During the game there are lot of side quests to complete, they are not mandatory but each giving you nice reward.
Maps have lot more crypts and tombs to complete, they are lot bigger now, with more things to do, challenge tombs are more difficult ones but rewarding :)
Rise Of Tomb Raider is a big game, took me 28 hours on my first playthrough, alot bigger then previous Tomb Raider game. Of course you can rush it and do it faster, but if you are looking for better gear grinding will consume so much more time.
DLCs are mostly good and worth picking up. Mostly, because some are very short only one side quest, but some of them are really big and worth your money. My favorite DLCs are Blood Ties and Baba Yaga which is the biggest DLC for this game.
I really enjoyed playing Rise Of the Tomb Raider, I still do, big game with lots of improvements, good storyline lot of collectables and hidden places to discover. This is my favorite Tomb Raider from the rebooted trilogy. Only thing I don`t like is that sometimes it feels there is too much shooting and less exploring to do. After all, this is Tomb Raider game and it should feel like Tomb Raider, exploring and solving puzzles....

The story is good, a little different than the last one. That game felt more like a down to earth story of Lara growing into her action hero role, while this one feels more like a grand Indiana Jones style adventure movie. There are some personal aspects about her father, but overall it felt more like pulp adventure, which is fine. The visuals are pretty great, even in 2020. The lighting is especially impressive, though It causes a lot of shimmer style aliasing the AA doesn't work well on. Someday it'll be amazing at ultra resolutions, but today my 2070 could barely max it out at 1440p and maintain 60fps. It's still a demanding game.
Overall I very much enjoyed Rise of the Tomb Raider. I'm not a huge fan of games that feel like movies, but Tomb Raider does it better than most and the gameplay you get is really solid. Definitely worth a go for fans of the previous game, and if you haven't played that one you should.

When you enter the world of Rise of the Tomb Raider
you will notice the size of the environment and its many details. In every part of the game you walk, whether it is a forest, a ruined building, or a forgotten temple, the environment is so big. It will take you several minutes to explore each of them. Unlike the previous game, where roads and environments created a tight space depending on their circumstances, in this one we see the expansion of roads, space, and atmosphere of each region. Most of the tools we used in the previous version are much broader in this one as well. Rock climbing fork and rope attached to Lara Croft's arrows are very important and practical tools.
Another good point of Rise of the Tomb Raider is the battle part of the game. This section is divided into two parts: stealth, action, and action. But with the experience we have had of this game, it can be said that stealth is more important than action and being busy with weapons.
You can also defeat the enemy from different angles with the Melee button or hand-to-hand combat. The secret part of the game is so vast that you can plan a little before you start. To do this, you have to wait and watch the movements of the enemy, because the enemies of the game are not completely dynamic and use a duplicate line to observe the area. Of course, this is done as long as they do not find corpses on their way. Once you are familiar with their route, you can plan to overthrow them.
But what at least didn't satisfy me in the fight section was the fights with the loud guns that didn't show up to the size of this game. Of course, this does not mean that this part is awful, but there are some problems in it that have reduced the better action experience of the game.
If we talk about the gameplay in general, everything is as good as a third-person action-adventure game. Lara Croft moves very lightly and shows good reactions. The secrets are well done, and the artificial intelligence of the enemies works well. The new tools, along with the old ones, make this part doubly enjoyable. If Dynamic Crystal had taken more time to fight with guns, it could be said that the game was somewhat flawless. Even the cinematic scenes of the game have worked in the best possible way. Escape from successive helicopter shootings, escape from enemy attack, spectacular environmental destruction, and even intermediaries associated with the brilliance of Lara Croft have all made the game look fascinating and exciting in all areas of adventure, action, and cinema.
Each stage has its own appeal in artistic design. The temples you encounter do not follow the same version as before. Water, ice, snow, sand, soil, and even in some cases skeletons and bloody corpses, have created a certain variety in them. Various other artistic designs, such as strange sculptures, thousands of years of paintings, and the architecture used in these temples, have made them more attractive and, of course, more enjoyable for players to explore.
But all of this has been solidified thanks to the game's excellent technical graphics. Let's start with Lara Croft.you can see Lara Croft's hair. Her hair is very effective in various environments and elements, especially wind and water. In addition, the rendering and modeling of Lara Croft's character have been processed with the highest possible level. Lara's face is very real and impressive, and different emotions are clearly visible on her face. Lara Croft's skin and clothing are also quite effective in different environments.
Even the snow is completely realistic as Lara steps on it. But a negative point in the environment has only slightly diminished its beauty, and that is nothing more than AA or edges that are sometimes very noticeable. The game's lighting is also executed in the best possible way and creates very beautiful scenes.
Charismatic, attractive environments, many temples, and a story worthy of an adventure game have all made this game one of the most memorable works of 2015/2016.

Main benefit: Lara now looks even better :)
The game in general looks great and the movement mechanics as well as the control over what she does feels better.
The story line is realistic but better than in Tomb Raider 2013 and also the DLC's side quests seem to be quite solid.
I wouldn't pay the full retail price anymore in 2020 but it's definitely worth to buy when on sale.
Great game.

Lara Croft is back again, and she's brought her bow.
-Overview-
Rise of the Tomb Raider (RoTR) is the direct sequel to the 2013 reboot of the franchise. Players of the previous game will find RoTR very familiar; it features the same exploration and parkour focused levels, third-person cover-shooter mechanics, and optional side content including collectables and puzzle rooms.
????RoTR can be played adequately with both keyboard/mouse and controller.????
-Gameplay-
Exploration:
Parkour plays a major part in RoTR, being required to traverse almost all areas. It is mostly limited to designated spots, meaning Lara can not climb freely on any surface or obstacle, but rather has to use specifically placed ropes, ledges and climbing walls. Players will be running, jumping, swinging and climbing constantly, but never outside the specific areas the developers intended. This can feel limiting on some occasions, such as when trying to reach an objective via a path that looks like it should be traversable, but is not designed to allow it.
For the most part the parkour system feels solid and is pretty fun, though it can be a little clumsy on occasion. Landing on the wrong part of a climbing wall or trying to aim at a ledge when stuck with a bad camera angle can lead to falling and potentially having to climb a long way back up or, when exploring open-world areas, respawning at a far-off checkpoint.
Aside from main story missions, players have a range of collectables including voiced lore notes, unique artifacts and more generic collections to collect and complete, as well as a small number of unique tombs containing puzzles for the player to solve that reward unique skills and buffs.
https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=2104847169
Combat:
RoTR gives Lara weapon slots for a bow, pistol, rifle and shotgun. There are a few different customizable examples of each weapon type to choose from, with different stats and characteristics. A dodge and counter mechanic is also present for close-range combat, which is quite simple and satisfying to use.
Players will encounter enemies in both loud, forced-combat scenarios and scenarios in which one can choose how to approach the situation. A stealthy approach is fully supported and encouraged by the game, with silent weapons, melee takedowns and environmental camoflauge (hiding in the bushes) available.
Special attention is given to the Lara's bow, which is treated as her first and primary weapon. Players have access to various special arrow types such as combat-oriented explosive and poison arrows, as well as utility types such as rope arrows that allow one access to otherwise inaccessable locations. The firearms given to the player are powerful, but ammunition is harder to come by than arrows and the noise limits stealth options. Instead of having players carry throwable weaponry, Lara can craft makeshift grenades during combat using various items scattered around the area such as empty cans and bottles.
Gunplay is serviceable and gets the job done, but is also rather loose and basic. Guns don't feel very satisfying to use, and aiming is more clumsy than intuitive. There is a distinct lack of quality feel compared to popular third-person shooters such as Mass Effect 3 or GTA V.
Enemy AI is decent, with ranged enemies using cover while melee enemies attempt to rush the player and force them from their own cover. The main critism I have regarding AI is the grenade spam that often occurs in firefights. Enemies throwing grenades to flush the player from cover is a good mechanic that keeps players moving, but it happens so constantly that it gets quite annoying.
Level Design:
RoTR is presented as a series of relatively large open-world areas with smaller linear levels joining them together. As the game is largely set in the same region after the opening level, the overall aesthetic does not differ wildly, though there is enough variation to keep things relatively fresh and interesting. Traversing the world of RoTR is often enjoyable as the levels are designed to make the most of the parkour system by having Lara climbing and ziplining all around. Areas where stealth is of particular use may also feature elements to assist Lara in remaining undetected such as dense flora she can hide in and overhead branches she can use to stalk the enemy from above.
https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=2104841403
-Story-
As RoTR follows from the 2013 reboot, it features some familiar faces, including Lara Croft as she appeared in the previous game. Unfortunately, while the story of this game isn't bad, I don't feel it's as good as the previous entry. Though the story of RoTR isn't told badly, I felt it was simply not that interesting and fairly predictable. Many of the plot points seemed to lack real significance, and characters and groups came across as being pretty shallow. Lara's motivations are also questionable and arguably naive. Perhaps some will enjoy the story more than I, but personally I doubt I will remember the nuances of the story or the names of the characters in a few months.
RoTR also features the quicktime events from the previous entry, though less of them. They don't happen very often, but can be irritating for those like myself who don't like them.
-Technical-
This game was played with the following PC specs:
Intel i5-4440 3.10 GHz
16GB DDR3 RAM
GeForce GTX 1650 SUPER 4GB
1680x1050 resolution
HDD
Visuals/Audio:
RoTR is a very pretty game, with beautiful vistas and foliage, as well as very nice looking character models and animations.
I was impressed by Lara's facial animations during cutscenes, and really liked the little touches like when she dries off her ponytail when exiting water, or reaches out to touch the wall when walking in a confined space.
https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=2104848870
Audio design is adequate; sound effects are crisp and voice acting is good, though the music failed to catch my attention except for two tracks. The music that played during the end credits was nice, and different from anything previous, while the track that plays during combat caught my attention for different reasons. Early in the game it would play whenever enemies were nearby, even if I didn't engage them, and having loud, dramatic music playing for no reason became quite irritating.
Performance:
Using the specs listed above I got above 60fps on high settings in most areas, but the larger open world areas dropped my framerate considerably. Lowering settings made very little difference, and some quick research found that others have experienced similar issues in those areas.
Issues:
RoTR crashed three times in my 20 hours of play, all in the Soviet Installation area. Thankfully it autosaves often.
I encountered a couple of small issues here and there like enemies T-posing and getting stuck, but these were rare and did not affect my progress.
-Summary-
RoTR is a beautiful and enjoyable game, and a solid sequel to 2013's Tomb Raider, though I felt it failed to improve on some gameplay shortfalls of the previous entry, such as gunplay, and had a somewhat bland, though still relatively entertaining story.
I would recommend this game to those who liked the previous entry, and to those who like a cool adventure game with lots of collectables and large-scale puzzles.

Of course , playing the next one is logical if you are into that series . So i did purchase it and have played 20 hours so far, on and off .
Here is my opinion on it so far .
On the plus side :
+ Awesome scenery and landscape . Graphics are great .
+ Lots and lots of things to do : Fight animals, fight ennemies, crafting and upgrading your weapons, collecting and finding all kind of stuff,on the side challenges, on the side missions to help allies. The interaction is almost limitless .
+ Great weapons to choose from and lots of action .
+ Immersive to the max . For me it was anyway .
+ Huge areas to search and play in . You are free to walk pretty muche all over the place .
+ Lara is one bad ass chick . She can take a beating and is very sexy doing it .
+ The puzzles are good . Not too tough not too easy . Some make you think and some make you do a series of physical actions .
On the negative side :
- Camera can be in a bad place at times and i found that out when close to wall or in action , fighting .
- Controls can be non responsive at times also .
- Some areas have huge buildings to walk throu and you can get lost easily, which makes for frustrating situations at times . Corridors, staircases, multiple levels, makes you feel like a lab mouse in a labyrinth .
- If you ever are in difficulty and want to quit what you are doing and where you are, there are no way to fast travel to a base camp to go do something else for a while . You are kind of stuck there .
- Even though the narrative audio was on max in the settings, i had a hard time understanding / hearing the dialogues .
- The areas are so huge that you can get confused at times to where to go . Cavernes , lots of buildings, mountains , etc .
You will need lots of relexes, dexterity, rapid thinking and know how to fight .
In the end , for me it is a great game . I live it to the max . It's a great experience and the gameplay provides me with all i can expect from this franchise .
I highly recommand this game .

Story is a 6/10. Not bad but not something that'll hold you to it. The mechanics is crisp and smooth providing typical OTT Lara Croft action is the best part. Also on the upside its very well optimised and you can enjoy smooth mechanics with high quality visuals.
Overall a fun experience and worth a discount buy on a sale.

There are so many things wrong with this game it's almost hard to comprehend how people considered this a great game, and extreme improvement from the previous game. To me it was clear they made no attempt to improve anything, the following list just scratch the surface on many issues with this game.
- The story is boring and uninteresting, It's even more generic than the last game, with the story being I have to get something to restore my father's honor and prevent the bad guy from getting said object because he wants to take over the world. I often asked myself why would i care, All characters were uninteresting including Lara herself and the story was just a complete waste of time.
- The combat and camera is still clunky as shit, This game feels like you are fighting the camera and controls the whole game, and are really the true challenge of the game, AI is still dumb as rocks and every combat environment is surrounded in TNT that enemies chill around waiting for you to shoot.
- Puzzles, No improvement from the previous game, most puzzles boil down look at it for 30 seconds make 1 error and then solve it, no effort has been put into these, never did I ever feel excitement at the puzzles, never was there a series of puzzles that introduced interesting mechanics and build upon them in a combined series of puzzles, getting harder and more interesting after each.
- Microtransactions, Microtransactions in a single player game is enough reason not to play a game, and the fact i've seen almost no one comment or complain about just shows the sad state of the video game industry and publishers could literally shit your face and you'd still buy the next game they release
About the only positives I can say that improve on the last game is the graphics and world scenery (not world design), each area you play in and progress through are all visually stunning, Whoever designed the backdrops for the game have done a fantastic job and should be extremely proud of their work.
There are so many fundamental issues with this game, and having only scratched the surface pointing out a few, I would recommend you stay away if you are looking for a new experience in the Tomb Raider series, There is nothing to be enjoyed about this copy and paste game.

In many ways, Rise of the Tomb Raider could be viewed as a fairly modest sequel. It successfully builds off Crystal Dynamics' excellent reboot, but it doesn't introduce any massive changes; the scope is greater but still in spitting distance of the previous game. But successfully regaining the feeling created in an extremely good game is no small feat. This is the inauguration of Tomb Raider as a formula once more, but for now, it's a formula I'm happy revisiting.

I can't really fault the gameplay, as it's essentially the same as in the previous game and works really well for the most part. However, I do have a problem with the level design; maybe my memory is a bit cloudy, but I don't remember the previous game being as open and having this many collectibles. This leads to a lot of areas being enormously huge to make room for said collectibles, but if you're like me and not interested in those, it also leads to a ton of running around on flat terrain to progress the story. For me, this ruins the game's pacing quite a bit, which just feels very slow compared to the previous one.
On a more positive note, the graphics are great. Lighting, vegetation, animations, and reflections all look fantastic. Especially the facial animation received a huge upgrade (although I prefer Lara's design in the previous game, as it had a lot more personality).
Overall, this game simply failed to engage me in the same way the previous one did. If you're looking for a focused, self-contained, and (most importantly) fun game to play, get the previous installment instead.

one of the best Tomb Raider games out there
it's really good and fun, has a really good mix of combat, stealth, climbing, and puzzles, it was all good IMO
what I hated it sometimes controls felt a bit slow, and weird at first. and some cinmatic glitches happened sometimes not much, other than that I highly recommend it.
