Furthermore, people are willing to toss money into slot machines for skins, here we have to earn them in game with no real money.....again....not a good move for some reason.
People seem to like throwing their money away these days and don`t recognize a good DLC when they see it.

Unless you intend to play Remnant Survival co-op AND have friends who can do long-haul runs, this DLC does not add much of value except if you really, really adored the core game and wanted to expand the context-free adventure mode parts of it.

*SPOILER AHEAD*
Survival mode is alright. Not a very big fan of starting over from scratch but it's an interesting new way to play the game once you have nothing else left to do. More times than not, the RNG will lead to an early end or long run depending on which bosses spawn early on.
Now the stuffs added on Corsus adventure mode... the RNG is insane. There is this random spawn bug merchant that you can buy armors and trinkets from. However to get the armor, you'll first need to hope for a random beetle spawn in some dungeons in order to get the materials to exchange for 1 piece of said armor. So you need to hope for the RNG to be on your side 3 times to get the full set... There is also another beetle at another location, again random spawn, whose material you need to unlock a new trait with the bug merchant.
And then there's the graveyard elf and Iskal queen, not only must they spawn together, but you will need some specific dungeons to spawn so you're guaranteed to find the infectors to get the infected status... if you think needing 2 spawns to happen together is bad, how about 3?
This is uber frustrating even with world analyzer. Very cheap and artificial way to prolong the game.
TLDR; insane amount of RNG and annoying mechanics led to unfun moment.

The bosses that were added with this DLC are all good. Barbed Terror and Dream Eater have since been added to the standard game, but they were both actually fun to fight which generally bodes well for the developers' improvements in boss design. The remaining DLC exclusive boss is the Iskal Queen - and she is outstanding. She is extremely hard, but doesn't rely heavily on adds and crappy mechanics. I got my ass kicked and I had fun the whole time. Well done Gunfire Games.
My major complaint, however, is how ridiculously gated some of the content is thanks to RNG. The unlock conditions for many of the items are LUDICROUS, especially the Carapace set. Even less egregious offenders are still difficult to obtain for no obvious reason, like the Luminescent, Fortification, and Potency traits. This is different from the unlocks from Survival mode, which are account-bound and are generally designed to be actually challenging to get, instead of just bound to your luck and how willing you are to reroll again and again for the right conditions.
Overall however I would say that the positives that this DLC brings outweighs its major negative for those who really enjoyed the base game.

If you don't like survival mode, a new world type, and new bosses and weapons, then don't buy the DLC. My recommendation is to always get DLCs on sale or in a bundle (which I did for this one), but this one seamlessly fits into the base game and adds quite a lot of extra fun to it as well.
Corsus is challenging (especially the cave part!) and not all that pretty to look at (does anyone really enjoy swamps?), but the new enemies are interesting and they keep you on your toes! It does feel like it should've been part of the base game, but that's the issue with all DLCs nowadays, right? Overall, the content is worth it, and this game rocks anyway!

Summary:
[this DLC was played entirely in co-op, experiences may vary]
This DLC for Remnant feels like it added even less than the previous one, at the same price. I feel it might be even unfair to say it, but perhaps my standards have fallen too low, but a few bosses(one of which is also an elite monster just smaller), weapons and one map really don't feel like they're worth the money. This made even worse by the fact that it's buggy, just like the other DLC. One awful bug is getting instakilled instead of being downed in fights, ending co-op runs, or even worse, instantly dying without anything happening. Items and traits are modified slightly to fit the survival game mode, which uses assets from the base game. The main issue is that you cannot save and exit. You HAVE to sit through 40 to 90 minutes at a time, meaning you have to put a day aside just for that, if you're skilled enough to last that long. Teleporting to the Labyrinth costs you a few seconds, which isn't that bad, but the animation should be changed to an instant interaction with the TP crystal, because time is the most valuable resource in this mode. Obviously, the mode is entirely RNG based, meaning some runs can end prematurely over bad luck. My complaint would be that I've noticed that it isn't exactly random. Some areas/bosses I've only played once, in like 20 hours, whereas other areas I've played 3 or 4 times in a single run. Speaking of playtime, it just doesn't feel rewarding enough to invest 40 minutes at a time, for a couple of crystals to get some lazy skins. Worst of all, is that said crystals are also bugged. After a record run, where we've definitely collected more than 50 crystals, we've received ONE. With a 10% performance bonus of... ZERO. So almost 2 hours gone, for literally nothing? Oh, and some account-wide items don't unlock correctly for everyone, either.
Final Thoughts:
Could be fine if they recalibrated some parts of the survival mode, increased crystal drops or decreased the price for skins, because they're hardly worth it no matter what, and it just makes the skin achievement mindnumbingly grindy (least obtained in global stats). It has some bugs that just makes it feel like such a waste of time, and at 10€ it feel more like a paid mod than real DLC.
FINAL SCORE: | 4/10 |
---|---|
Positives: | Some more content, potentially fun game mode. |
Negatives: | Buggy, grindy, asset reuse, uninspired, no save/quit option, lame rewards. |
This adds the swamp area to Adventure Mode, and there is a new boss and an okayish new weapon mod? Feel free to skip this dlc.
The real star of this DLC is the Survival Mode. If you're looking for a whole new way to play Remnant, and you've completed the campaign, Survival mode *is* worth it, but I only found it fun for maybe a half an hour at a time.

The Base Game is Great. This DLC, not so much.
I loved playing this game a year ago and spent the time to collect all items and get 39/40 (if I remember correctly) achievements the first month. I had a blast. I came back a year later ready to try out the DLCs and am very disappointed. It feels like the adventure mode only content was withheld from of the original release just for this DLC.
No pausing when playing single player was an annoyance in the vanilla game because you either accepted a small amount of progress loss or had to back track to a safe spot (even though you're in single player where almost every other game pauses when you hit escape or open menus). But in the survival mode added with this DLC, the lack of a pause where the timer just keeps rolling even if you find a safe spot to walk away punishes you so much more. If you have to walk away for an extended period of time and cannot get to the labyrinth before needing to walk away then you lose ALL progress in that run even if your an hour in. The lack of basic features like pause (in single player) and saving make this mode (which is a large chuck of this DLC content) unplayable for people with responsibilities (work calls after hours or small children that need you). I have had this happen twice in the first two days in survival mode where in the vanilla game I wouldn't have cared because progress loss is so minimal but in the DLC where I had a good start it was frustrating.
Gunfire Games had earned my trust after the vanilla game with an insta buy on these DLCs. They subsequently lost that trust with this DLC.

The new bosses and areas are pretty awsome.
The survival / rogue lite mode is really a nice touch and I have probably put more time into that mode that the main game now.
This DLC is really good value for money and a great addition to a great game.

survival mode is also really not great, you cannot exit and save your progress in your survival run. With how you can instantly die if you get unlucky losing hours of progress with nothing to show for it but items to get a new skin on your armor (and no you can't transmog other armor sets to actually make yourself look cooler, you just get an extra skin that can only be applied to that armor set). Even hardcore has extremely useful account bound items that you can unlock rather quickly if you're good, survival requires a huge grind for all it's items (up to 100 boss kills in survival which requires 2 mini dungeons just to get to a single boss).
The new boss is pretty cool tho

I had no problem with the added items, survival mode or the hardest difficulty option. The only problem I had is the necessity to replay the corsus over and over again just in hopes to see the added new items, dungeons and the new bosses in one playthrough of the corsus adventure mode. It's basically randomly generated and based entirely on you're luck, unless I'm missing something. Although I made my research and most of the opinions out there suggested what I presented. I also replayed it 3 times and didn't get to meet the queen in the temple. I just got bored from the repetitive gameplay and didn't bother to continue. I just hope the final DLC doesn't follow the same formula.
Also, forgot to mention the area were you have multiple doors with items inside of them. As a solo player, it was impossible for me to open all doors. You need Co-op!

Survival is challenging and fun (especially with friends) and I am still playing it even having received all the rewards from it. I think it was worth the money and I am happy to support the developers for the hours of great gaming I have had in Remnant. I will be buying the next DLC on release.

So what does this dlc give you?
-Skins for armor (not transmog only a single alternate skin for most if not all sets)
-Survival mode (which is good from what I've seen but only if you want a rogue-like experience and it's not really worth $10 in my opinion as it doesn't really add much)
That's it. If I could refund the dlc alone, I would in a heartbeat.

Some bugs are still present though, I constantly have a black box at the top of my screen after we visit a crystal. My friend got stuck on seemly nothing and the water textures glitch like crazy. Despite this, this DLC has proven to be a great deal of fun.

In the DLC, more specifically the Survival mode, this is unacceptable. Devoting time to a play session just to see it wiped out prematurely by a glitch or series of glitches that should have been patched out by now, is ridiculous. The amount of time in open world compared to boss fights feels unbalanced as well, but that mostly falls down to personal enjoyment of fights as opposed to time spent in open environments and exploration/traversal.
The Adventure Mode in Corsus is well done for the most part, but it's also personally my least favorite zone in the game, so it doesn't really do it for me. If this expansion had cost more than $10, I would have refunded it by now.

On the technical side, something in the update broke the game for me. It is unplayable in fps unlocked fullscreen mode; lowering the resolution, playing in windowed and capping fps at 60 was the only way to gain some semi-stability. Been submitting crash reports for the past two months and nothing.

New Survival mode, new boss fights, new items and traits are all good.
But looking the whole paid DLC content size only... well 10 euros for this DLC somehow feels little too much. I would say it's 5 euros.
Puting some new DLC content only in adventure mode (Iskal Queen boss fight) for me at least it feels some how wrong and not real part of the main core game story and just some thing you do once to get new items, traits and then never again.
Personally Adventure mode is for farming if you ask me and when you done that there is no point going back there again and so I dont see my self replying after I get new stuff from it.
So y all new stuff for swamp that we get from DLC should be part of core game play and story to.
DLC is good but not worth the price.
